This Civilization 7 leader is a joy-spreader and a warmonger at the same time

I have a tendency in games like Civilization 7 to turtle. I get a few cities on the go and then sit behind walls, building and researching while stubbornly refusing to actually recruit an army. This means that as the game progresses into the middle eras, I can't expand anymore and if someone wants to take me down they usually can. New leader Ashoka looks like he might be able to help players like me, especially thanks to a secondary DLC persona he has to offer.

Call of Duty aims to catch all Black Ops 6 cheaters in under one hour

I remember a time when cheating was so rampant in Call of Duty games (Warzone, especially) that they became immensely unenjoyable. While the likelihood of bumping into cheaters these days is still fairly high, the introduction of Activision's own Richochet anticheat has certainly improved the situation. With Black Ops 6 just a week away, I've been bracing for another influx of aimbotters and wallhackers, but so to has Activision as it has rolled out some pre-launch improvements to Ricochet and set itself an ambitious target: catch every cheater within an hour.

Bethesda won't just copy Baldur's Gate 3, ex Skyrim and Starfield dev says

If you're a game developer in the year 2024, the lure of Baldur's Gate 3 must be irresistible. The range of options available to those seeking a quality set of 2.1 computer speakers is fairly limited these days - outside of putting together a Hi-Fi system - but the Edifier S350DB is doing its bit. These speakers deliver superb sound quality, with huge amounts of volume and bass presence when needed, all while looking classy and for a very fair price.

The combination on offer from Edifier here is enough to make these easily the best computer speakers you can buy if you're seeking a quality 2.1 set. The Theater of Haruhi Suzumiya Novel Will Appear Simultaneously in English

Yen Press announced that those waiting to read the new Haruhi Suzumiya light novel will be able to alongside Japanese readers. We already knew The Theater of Haruhi Suzumiya will be a simulpub title, which means it will be released simultaneously in both English and Japanese, but now this pins down the publisher. It came up among other New York Comic Con 2024 reveals.

The announcement went on to offer additional clarification about the process. This will only affect the English digital release of The Theater of Haruhi Suzumiya, and not the physical copy of the light novel. The new story is set to debut in Japan on November 29, 2024. So someone will be able to go directly to Yen Press and look up the digital copy at launch to download it from the storefront that works best for them.

Here's the official announcement Yen Press shared during NYCC 2024. It confirmed this installment will feature three stories starring the series' characters.

https://twitter.com/yenpress/status/1847306935382479325

This tracks, as Yen Press handled both the manga and light novels in the past. The most recently published light novel was The Intuition of Haruhi Suzumiya, which released in 2021. It's been quite a while since we've seen manga based on it, as one of the last ones was The Celebration of Haruhi Suzumiya.

Digital copies of The Theater of Haruhi Suzumiya will appear in English via Yen Press on November 29, 2024.

You Can Earn Shiny Meloetta in Pokemon Home Now

The Pokemon Company International announced that it is now possible to get a shiny Meloetta in Pokemon Home following the 3.2.2 update. However, it isn't an unconditional giveaway. It is tied to Pokedex completion.

Here's how it works. You need to have your copy of Pokemon Home synched up with Pokemon Scarlet and Violet on the Nintendo Switch. This is because you need to have the full Pokedex for the main game, which is the Paldea Pokedex, as well the ones from the Blueberry and Kitakami Pokedex ones from the two areas in the expansion pass. If you did that and confirmed it within Pokemon Home in "Games," you get the Shiny Meloetta as a Mystery Gift. Once that is in your boxes, you could then move it to one of your games.

There's also a screenshot showing the Shiny Meloetta in the Pokemon Home app. The Normal and Psychic type will be at level 50 when it arrives. The one shown in the screenshot has 170 HP, 82 attack, 162 special attack, 92 defense, 148 special defense, and 110 speed. The Modest nature boosts special attack at the cost of attack. Serene Grace also makes it more likely Meloetta's attack effects will trigger. The character arrives knowing Echoed Voice, Psybeam, Relic Song, and Sing. So Serene Grace would affect Psybeam and Relic Song.

Here's how the character will look:

Pokemon Home is available on the Nintendo Switch and mobile devices. It is compatible with games up through the latest Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Switch entries.

Review: Refind Self: The Personality Test Game Is a Fascinating Time Sink

When it comes to a personality test, it honestly might be better to think of it as a game or hypothetical, rather than a reliable determination of who you are as a person. (Especially if you're just doing so online.) Refind Self: The Personality Test Game leans into that by basically giving you a light slice-of-life experience following a grieving android coming to terms with recent events while also going about their day and considering what to do next.

Within the "world" of Lizardry and Playism's Refind Self: The Personality Test Game, you are taking a test designed to help someone recover and determine who they are by playing through said game about the android. You're warned that you can only take so many actions while exploring and interacting before your "heart is full," which will then result in an assessment based on what you did and decisions you made. From there, you're tossed into the life of an android who's just lost the Doctor who acted as a parent to them and go about your day.

Image via Playism

While this is a personality test of sorts, I think it is better to think of Refind Self: The Personality Test Game as a life sim that might be different each time you play it. The first time you go into it blind is probably when you'll both get the most and least accurate assessment of who you might be, since you're given no guidance beyond "live." There are no instructions. Provided you didn't look up details online, you won't know what to expect. Also, since you likely won't turn streamer mode on, you'll be making decisions naturally and not considering the fact that the game is actually keeping track of how long it takes you to do certain things as part of the determinations as well.

The world of  Refind Self: The Personality Test Game is a homey and relatively peaceful one. After heading down from the hill, you can visit with other human and robotic inhabitants of the village. It is possible to investigate things, collect items, and shop. You'll learn about possible tasks or activities, which you can take part in. So in a way, it really does feel like it could be an assessment of who you are. After all, there are a lot of choices as to what you might do.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XIQpsNJ_5zU&ab_channel=PLAYISM

As such, I found the second and third runs of Refind Self: The Personality Test Game were more satisfying than the first. During the second, I had a better idea of where everything was an knew what I hadn't gotten around to the first time. So I had more of an idea what to expect and perhaps even felt like I enjoyed it more since I better understood what was possible. But in the third, I actually started working toward some of the potential "objectives" or activities that really feels like you're supposed to be pushing yourself toward a certain way to get something done. Also, the more you play, the more you unlock and know about the game.

The execution also makes doing so something of a pleasure. Playism noted a playthrough can last about an hour, but it might even be shorter than that depending on what you do. It's easy to go through and fun to explore. Not to mention it's quite a pretty diversion, with fantastic spritework and a subdued color scheme that matches the tone of the experience perfectly. I ended up taking to playing it either between other games or before heading to bed each night to relax. I eventually felt like I wanted to go out of my way to earn personalities I hadn't seen yet, just to get feedback on that mindset, get a look at the fun outfits, and see how to trigger that result.

Review: Refind Self: The Personality Test Game Is a Fascinating Time Sink
Image via Playism

Refind Self: The Personality Test Game may not be the best at accurately assessing who you are, but it is absolutely entertaining. I really liked the relax atmosphere and presentation. Plus, its length encourages you to return and see what you might discover and unlock next. It's an enjoyable way to briefly spend some time thinking about your actions.

Refind Self: The Personality Test Game is available on the Nintendo Switch, PC and mobile devices.

Gundam 08th MS Team and Evangelion Shokugan toys

Bandai will release new Gundam and Evangelion Shokugan frame toys in Japan in 2025. The company has also opened pre-orders for the upcoming toys on its Japanese Premium Bandai web store. [Thanks, Hobby Watch!]

The new Gundam G-Frame-FA Shokugan toy set will be particularly based on Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team. The package will contain armor parts, frames, and armaments that let the owner construct the Gundam Ez8, Ground Type Gundam, Ground Type GM, and Gouf Custom. All of these items will be available in a single package at 7,480 yen (~$50.05)

Meanwhile, the Rebuild of Evangelion toys will appear in two different sets. Both of them will feature unit parts and frames that result in Shinji's EVA Unit-01 and Rei's EVA Unit-00' when completed, so they won't come pre-built like the Robot Spirits action figures.

The regular EVA-Frame-DX set that costs 6,930 yen (~$46.35) will add Asuka's EVA Unit-02. There will also be a limited set based on Operation Yashima that comes with the 6th Angel while bringing in EVA 01's positron rifle and EVA 00''s large shield at 5,940 yen (~$39.70).

While the Gundam: The 08th MS Team toys are only available on the Japanese Premium Bandai, the Evangelion Shokugan toys—both the regular set with EVA 02 and the Operation Yashima set with the 6th Angel—can be ordered via the Evangelion Store. The latter also supports international shipping via the Buyee proxy widget.

Bandai will release the Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team and Rebuild of Evangelion Shokugan toys in April 2025.

Super Nintendo World Florida

Nintendo and Universal confirmed the opening date for the Super Nintendo World location in Florida. It will be one of the zones that make up Universal Epic Universe, which opens at Universal Orland Resort on May 22, 2025.

The Florida location for Super Nintendo World will be similar to the one seen in Universal Studios Japan. The attractions will be mainly the same, with Mario Kart: Bowser's Challenge, Yoshi's Adventure and Toadstool Cafe all present. The new Donkey Kong Country section is also confirmed, along with the Mine-Cart Madness roller coaster. The park will also feature similar interactive elements to those seen in the Japan park.

The Florida location will notably be larger than the previously opened California location, which had to cut attractions such as Yoshi's Adventure due to limited space. This will mean that the new park will be the first appearance of these attractions in North America.

Super Nintendo World is one of four lands being built for Universal Epic Universe, the fourth theme park at Universal Orlando Resort in Florida. The other lands will include the Isle of Berk, based on How to Train Your Dragon, Dark Universe, based on Universal's classic monster franchises, and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. These areas will all be connected via a hub known as Celestial Park, themed around astronomy.

The Universal Studios Japan version of Super Nintendo World is also set to receive a Donkey Kong Country section in 2024, although its opening has been delayed.

Super Nintendo World will open as part of Universal Epic Universe in Florida on May 22, 2025.

Tamagotchi Angel will return worldwide

Bandai revealed that it will re-release the Tamagotchi Angel worldwide at the 2024 New York Comic Con, starting in North America in December 1, 2024. Amazon product pages already opened for Dreamy Angel and Lovely Angel designs. It will come to Japan in early 2025. People will once again be able to raise an evolvable angel in this digital toy.

The company has also released successor models like Tamagotchi Uni Angel Festival, but this one will bring back the original Tamagotchi Angel model. The new release will be available worldwide, but the Japanese webpage has the most information.

Even though the product had also appeared in Japan as Tenshicchi no Tamagotchi, Bandai will base the new releases on the yellow-colored Original Tamagotchi Lovely Angel and the blue Dreamy Angel that originally came out in Europe and the Americas. That is also the official English name for the two designs.

The Japanese page also shows more details on the toy screens. It shows the list of available menu icons that range from feeding and taking care of the angel to playing a Jumping Star minigame. It also has an almost complete evolution tree. However, the angel can and will leave the player if they do not take good care of it.

The product will cost 3,080 yen (~$20.55) when it launches in Japan. Bandai will hold early sales for the product in the Tamagotchi 28th Birthday event at Oshi Base Harajuku in Tokyo, Japan, on November 2-28, 2024. However, it will only allow each buyer to get one of the two models.

Original Tamagotchi Lovely Angel and Dreamy Angel will be available worldwide, with the Japanese formal release date set for January 25, 2025. Bandai will open public pre-orders for the product in Japan on Thursday, December 26, 2024.

Banjo Tooie Switch Online Banjo-Kazooie sequel

Banjo-Tooie is the latest N64 game being added to Nintendo Switch Online. The Banjo-Kazooie sequel will be added for players who have the Expansion Pack on October 25, 2024.

Originally released in 2000, Banjo-Tooie features lots of returning characters. The bear and bird return for another adventure as they tried to stop another of Grunty's schemes. While the main gameplay from the original game was retained, which involves players collecting Jiggies and music notes, several new features were added for the Banjo-Kazooie sequel. Things included a larger explorable world, new moves including a first-person egg-shooting mode, and a multiplayer mode featuring various minigames. Some sections of the game also made Kazooie playable on her own.

The Nintendo Switch Online version of Banjo-Tooie will feature a full widescreen mode. However, it's unlikely this release will contain the Stop 'n' Swop feature that was restored for the Xbox Live Arcade version of the game. This was a feature intended to be in the original N64 release but was scrapped due to technical limitations. Since this new release will seek to remain faithful to the original N64 release, it's likely to be left out.

Despite Rare now being owned by Microsoft, Banjo-Tooie is the sixth N64 game developed by the studio that's appeared on Nintendo Switch Online. As well as the original Banjo-Kazooie, Goldeneye, Jet Force Gemini, Blast Corps and Perfect Dark are also currently available. Banjo and Kazooie also made another appearance on the Switch as a playable DLC character for Super Smash Bros Ultimate.

Banjo-Tooie will come to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack on October 25, 2024.

Vampirella Is the New Horror Bishoujo Figure

Kotobukiya announced ahead of the 2024 New York Comic Con and Halloween that it will add Vampirella to the line of horror comic icon Bishoujo figures. This is both to celebrate her 55th anniversary and the 15th anniversary of the Bishoujo line of statues.

At the moment, the Vampirella Bishoujo figure is very early in development, but artist Shunya Yamashita did already draw the concept art for the horror comic heroine. It is based on her classic red and white one-piece with gold accents. She'll apparently be standing on a base that has a cross-shaped grave on it. Also, as a nod to the fact that she can shapeshift into a bat, there will be one flying alongside her.

Here's the official Yamashita concept art that will be used as the basis for the figure:

https://twitter.com/Kotobukiya_EN/status/1846747976418406562

While people might immediately think of the Kotobukiya Bishoujo line and think of comic or game figures, ones based on horror villains have been a staple since the collection started. After all, Edward Scissorhands showed up in the series back in 2016, followed by Tiffany from The Bride of Chuckyin 2017. Two of the more recent releases were a Sadako from The Ring announcement and a rerun of Beetlejuice.

The Vampirella Bishoujo figure is in development.

Vikala in Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising

Cygames confirmed the date that Vikala will join Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising as DLC. Players will be able to add her as a new DLC character on October 25, 2024.

Vikala will primarily fight by launching random projectiles in this Granblue Fantasy fighting game. The shikigami Dormouse will also accompany her throughout her in-game appearance. Her personality will also change based on whether she is wearing the iconic rat ears or not.

Cygames has published a character page for Vikala, which includes her in-game personal theme BGM "Welcome to the Parade." It has also uploaded the individual gameplay trailer for Vikala with two different voiceover versions. The one available on the game's official YouTube channel features the Japanese voiceover by Atsumi Tanezaki:

The "1" in the currently available Character Pass 1 is already an indication for Cygames to release a second pass that will add even more DLC characters.

Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising is readily available worldwide on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC. Vikala will appear as a new DLC character for the fighting game on October 25, 2024.
