PCGamesN Wednesday, October 23, 2024 12:03 PM Battlefield 1 received an update on October 22 that updated the game's anti-cheat and in the process removed any compatibility for the Steam Deck. This isn't the first EA game to adopt an anti-cheat that isn't Linux-friendly, but it's painful nonetheless to see another game disappear from the Steam Deck library. EA is using EA Anti-Cheat (EAAC) in most of its in-house published games now, and the system isn't compatible with the best handheld gaming PC. In fact, it's not compatible with Linux at all, and it's led to a discussion around just how large the Steam Deck user base is if large publishers are happy to remove compatibility without remorse. This also recently happened to GTA 5 on Steam Deck, where an update also added an anti-cheat that is incompatible with Valve's handheld. It's the one thing that the best survival horror games always get right - they force you to listen out for a rustle in the bushes, a twig snapping, an ominous rumbling. Harvest Hunt does all of that and more; the whisper of the corn, the splashing of water, the roar of The Devourer. This puzzle-solving sequel, Wilmot Works It Out, doesn't come packaged with its predecessor's wry humour, nor the same sense of compulsion. Instead, it exudes a calm and homely sense of idle comfort. With three mainline RPGs and counting, it is finally time to revisit all Dragon Age titles and determine the best companions. I decided to break it down per game and give my thoughts on the best companion per title. There are some fantastic BioWare characters throughout each game, but these are the best Dragon Age companions in terms of writing, romance, and more across all three titles.
Best Dragon Age: Origins Companion: Morrigan
It is quite difficult to pick a best companion from the first Dragon Age title. After all, this is arguably the best group of characters in the series thus far. But if I had to pick a single member of the group, I would go with Morrigan. This infamous witch has a deep story and the most compelling writing out of anyone in this initial game.
Without spoiling too much, her story goes in a wild direction no matter what path you take. Furthermore, her personality is intoxicating. She is certainly a prime example of "less is more." If you like that more hard-to-get style of character, Morrigan is one of the best companions to travel alongside.
Best Dragon Age 2 Party Member: Varric
If I had to pick a single character to be the best overall companion in all of this fantasy BioWare series, it would be Varric. He appears in Dragon Age 2 and reprises his party member role in the next couple of games, too. There is a reason BioWare keeps bringing back Varric compared to the other numerous party members.
This wise-cracking Dwarf is one of the funniest characters in all of video games. He is constantly making memorable quips and bringing some much-needed levity to this otherwise quite serious fantasy world. Varric is synonymous with this RPG series much in the same way as someone like Garrus in Mass Effect.
Best Dragon Age: Inquisition Companion: Dorian
I don't want to bring up Varric yet again for the third mainline game in this series, so the best companion from this title has to be Dorian. Like Varric, Dorian is quite funny and one of the most charming characters in the series thus far. But the most beautiful part about Dorian is he epitomizes the idea of don't judge a book by its cover.
If you take the time to get to know Dorian well, his backstory is tremendously written and heart-breaking. His outer shell belies the emotional lore he has. Dorian has such a complex story almost no one else in Dragon Age: Inquisition is able to compare to, whether you romance him or not.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard will release for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on October 31, 2024.

Lego Fortnite takes the original skins from battle royale and smushes them into adorable, block-shaped caricatures of themselves. Unfortunately, not every battle royale skin has a Lego version yet (poor Deku). Thankfully, there are quite a few already available. Here are the best Lego Fortnite skins, including both original and licensed characters alike.
Best Lego Fortnite Skins: The Mandalorian
If you've read any of my Lego Fortnite coverage here, there is a strong chance you've seen me wearing The Mandalorian skin. Besides being super biased about this one, I appreciate the customizable nature of this crossover skin. If you unlocked this skin during Chapter 2, you can swap the different armor sections for Mando. This gives a lot of possible variation for using this skin. Plus, he looks super adorable rather than menacing in Lego form.
Raven
Raven is one of the most iconic skins of all time. This Chapter 1 skin takes a few liberties in its Lego version. I would argue that it opts for a darker color scheme than its usual purple style, but it works. This makes Raven one of the more mysterious and detailed skins in Lego form. I really appreciate the glowing eyes, which stand out well in this survival game.
Spider-Man
There aren't a ton of crossover skins that have made the switch to Lego Fortnite thus far. This is possibly due to the licensing issues. Spider-Man, thankfully, is one of the few available right now. He is one of the best superheroes for a reason and the Lego skin version looks fantastic. The blue and red suit is sharp and bright, while the spider emblem in the middle is large and noticeable as it should be.
Galaxia
Galaxia takes on a quite different style in her Lego version. While not quite as magnificent as her original skin, which I would argue is one of the best in all of Fortnite, it still retains some of its signature effects. You can see the sparkly stars across her outfit, plus her colorful hairstyle. Then there are her feet, which shine brightly in a way no other Lego skin does.
Plague
This is one of the spookier Lego Fortnite skins players can use. It is the prime example of a Lego skin taking the original and making it much better. I would argue the original Plague Doctor is pretty forgettable. But his downsize into blocky form turns out quite well, with the memorable gray hat, detailed overall outfit, and neat accents throughout like the glowing green eyes.
Lego Fortnite is available on Android, Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC entirely for free.

Square Enix announced that when going through Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven, people can select two difficulty levels new to the remake. However, both are also tied to New Game Plus save files. This means you can't select either one when a game begins.
The announcement first showed where the two additional Romancing SaGa 2 remake difficulty options will appear after being unlocked and confirming their names. They are "Expert" and "Romancing." Expert is more difficult than "Hard," with Hard being described as what the game's original difficulty level felt like. Romancing is noted to be the most challenging one you can select. Neither can be reselected if you choose them at the start, then opt to drop down to a lower level.
The reveal also included a recommendation. Square Enix noted that Expert could be selected after someone finishes a first run through Romancing SaGa 2. However, the company noted Romancing might need a New Game Plus save file from multiple runs.
Here is the full announcement:
As a reminder, there is a Romancing SaGa remake demo available now. Save files do carry over to the full game.

Hobby Japan announced during the company's 55th anniversary event that Go Nagai's Cutie Honey manga and anime series will inspire a new revival project titled Cutie Honey Nova. At the time of writing, it is unclear if this will be a new anime series, be tied to merchandise or what projects the revival will involve. [Thanks, Hobby Japan!]
A new design for android protagonist Honey Kisaragi in her Cutie Honey superhero appearance was revealed, which shows the character wearing a more technological outfit and wielding her signature sword. The new design was created by Japanese illustrator Nadare Takamine.
You can check out the new Cutie Honey Nova design below.
Considering Hobby Japan and Good Smile Company's involvement in the new Cutie Honey Nova project, it is possible that the new revival is not an anime series, but rather a new line of Cutie Honey figures or merchandise featuring new character redesigns. We won't know for sure until Hobby Japan shares more information.
Cutie Honey is a manga and anime series created in 1973 by famous author Go Nagai. The franchise has received a variety of remakes and reboots, including the 1994 OVA series New Cutie Honey, the more family-friendly Cutie Honey Flash anime, Gainax's Re: Cutie Honey anime reboot released in 2004, and most recently the 2018 Cutie Honey Universe series.
The Cutie Honey Nova revival project is currently in development. More information will appear in the future.

Dragami Games President Yoshimi Yasuda announced that the developer isn't done with Lollipop Chainsaw RePop yet, as there will be new content and costumes released. No examples of possible additions were teased alongside the confirmation.
Here is Yasuda's announcement. It confirmed that development hasn't started on the new content for Lollipop Chainsaw RePop yet, but they are working on costumes. While there are no possible hints, the screenshot could perhaps be telling. It shows a moment in the game in which Gideon Starling, Juliet's dad, rides in on his motorcycle. He's known to be as adept at fighting as Juliet is. Also, he's not only one member of her family to show up in the game, as her mother Elizabeth and sisters Cordelia and Rosalind also appear. Cordelia is also shown to be quite capable when she appears in the game.
At launch, people reported multiple issues with Lollipop Chainsaw RePop. Some of these affected play and performance, especially on the Nintendo Switch. Since then, multiple patches appeared on all platforms. The most recent one in October 2024 involved a graphics option to go along with the performance mode on the Xbox Series X. Yasuda also noted the team will work on any bugs reported.
Lollipop Chainsaw RePop is available on the PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC. A PS4 version is being considered.

Wilmot's Warehouse, one of 2019's indie hits, appealed to those with a specific sort of organizational mind and appreciation for whimsical aesthetic. The follow-up, then, shouldn't be surprising: a puzzle assembly game called Wilmot Works It Out. The overlap in interested players is large, but it's different enough to offer a new gameplay experience for those same players.
In many ways, it feels like Wilmot Works It Out started as an exploration of what the developer could make with the existing Warehouse engine. Wilmot picks up and moves squares in a similar way, and takes "deliveries" in the form of puzzle packages instead of warehouse shipments.
The premise of the game is that Wilmot, the little quite square buddy with a face, has signed up for Puzzle Club, a mail-order puzzle service that doesn't always give you pieces from the same puzzle. Each shipment guarantees that one puzzle can be completed, but often includes lots of other pieces for future puzzles. The chaos is narrowed somewhat by the chapter presentation, containing each set within its own bundle.
Along the way, you'll also talk to the postal workers who hand you boxes, and there's something of a narrative here. It can serve to immerse you in the world and provide a "cozy" experience, but it also brings in a sense of dissonance. You're told about the world, and even told that you participate in it. You adopt a pet! Go to the park! But you don't do these things, you mainline puzzles in your foyer.
There are a few efforts to break up the experience, both through those story bits and the chapter intermissions that have you move completed puzzles to other rooms in the house. And while there's no actual time pressure, there's definitely the appearance of it. The moment you complete a puzzle, the postal worker's knocking on your door and will leave a note if you're even a bit lackadaisical in moving that puzzle to the wall to get it out of the way. It makes organizing the remaining pieces feel like a dereliction of duty at times. Eventually, we learned to leave one puzzle piece just a square away while cleaning up, just to avoid the guilt.
It's important to note that, while it's about puzzle assembly, hobby puzzlers may only find about half that experience here. Assembling a jigsaw puzzle involves two considerations: matching the illustrations and finding the correct shapes. Both help narrow down the possibilities and find the right piece. With Wilmot Works It Out, every piece is a cube. And a rounded one until placed, for that matter! Which does factor in. Since you can't use shape as a limiter, also losing the illustration detail around the edges makes a notable difference.
The early chapters are really quite easy, and only get to the sort of fun trickery we wanted to see in the back part of the game. That said, it doesn't wear out its welcome! We completed our leisurely playthrough in under five and a half hours. At this point, you unlock Marathon mode, which jumbles up all the puzzle pieces and gives you a larger room to make it more of a Wilmot's Warehouse-like organization challenge.
It feels in many ways like Marathon may have been the initial idea. After all, controlling chaos was the whole thing in Wilmot's Warehouse, and this more closely resembles that. We'd probably have liked something in the middle, with just a bit more grouping to finish some puzzles early. As it is, our floor was nearly full before we got the pieces to finish anything but a few tiny puzzles.
We really like the premise of Wilmot Works It Out, and don't mind a shorter experience! But the game really only hits its stride in the final chapters, leaving us wishing it expanded its later offerings at least a bit. Still, it's charming, and if you want to really dig into the Marathon post-game, it could be worth checking out.
Wilmot Works It Out, developed by Richard Hogg and Hollow Ponds and published by Finji, launches October 23, 2024 on PC and Mac.

The latest trailer for Double Dragon Revive revealed that Marian and Yagyu Ranzo will be playable characters in the final game. This is alongside the series' usual duo of Billy and Jimmy Lee.
Here's the new trailer, which highlights how both characters will work:
Marian was originally a damsel in distress character in the original Double Dragon, and had to be rescued by the Lee brothers. However, more recent games have pushed her into a more active role, with this being her second time in the series as a playable character after Double Dragon Gaiden. She was also playable in River City Girls 2. Marian's Double Dragon Revive moveset is full of fast kick moves, including a dive kick from midair and a rising kick that launches enemies.
Yagyu Ranzo is a ninja character who joined the Lee brothers in home versions of Double Dragon III after he is defeated as a boss. Since then, he also appeared as a playable character in Double Dragon IV and Double Dragon Gaiden. As a ninja, his Double Dragon Revive move set features heavy use of his sword. Speed and evasion look like key components of his playstyle, as a few teleportation moves are shown off in the trailer. He can also make use of fire breath and lightning magic.
Double Dragon Revive is the latest game in the long-running side-scrolling brawler series. While the latest entry will feature the same style of gameplay as past games, it now features full 3D visuals. Double Dragon Revive is currently confirmed to have two-player co-op, although it's unknown if the reveal of Marian and Yagyu means that more players can join. It's being developed by Yuke's, best known for their wrestling games, and published by Arc System Works.
Double Dragon Revive is set to release in 2025 for PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
