Metro Awakening review - a must-play VR survival FPS

The Metro games focus on cultivating atmosphere about all else. Carefully making your way along the hazard-filled train tracks of a post-apocalyptic metro station, or narrowly escaping mutated creatures while your broken gas mask impairs your vision, is what it's all about. So, with VR's immersive capabilities, Metro Awakening seems like a logical next step for the series. I'm happy to say that besides some bugs and performance hiccups on the Meta Quest 3, it's a must-play survival horror concoction.

The Grand Theft Auto series of games have become such a cultural juggernaut that it's easy to forget there's a reason why pretty much everyone on the planet has played them.      Black Ops 6 Prestige explained and rewards list

What is the Black Ops 6 Prestige system? Getting the psychological edge over your opponents in Call of Duty can go a long way in winning a multiplayer match. Sure, your aim, loadouts, and general skill are huge factors in securing victory, but if you can put your enemies on the back foot before a single shot has been fired, you're in a great spot to dominate.

One way to do that is with your Black Ops 6 Prestige level, which shows the world that you're experienced and bloodthirsty. In good news for returning players to the multiplayer game, for Black Ops 6, the Prestige system reverts to a classic state, no longer tied to live service seasons. Here's how that works in the latest iteration of the FPS game and what it means for you.

Rated 97% on Steam, the greatest game of 2024 is now cheaper than ever

The original Resident Evil, from 1996, is one of my favorite ever games. Likewise, the first Metal Gear Solid, Doom from 1993, Deus Ex, and Fallout 1. We all have our beloved, acclaimed, almost-impervious top ten - a game has to be truly special to earn a seat in that pantheon. For me, 1000xResist is already one of those games. Although it only came out this year, it's become one of my all-time favorites, alongside all those inveterate, historical hits. If you've been busy so far this year with Helldivers 2, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree, and Balatro, now, as 2024 winds down, it's time to give 1000xResist a try, especially considering it's cheaper than ever.

Gigantic Paradox 4X game Age of Wonders 4 just got even bigger with new DLC

Stellaris gives you outer space, Civilization 6 goes hard on the historical accuracy, and Cities Skylines 2 drills right down into the minutiae of everyday local governance. But what about the magic? What about a strategy game where you can rule over your own private version of Skyrim, or build a fantasy realm in the vein of the Lands Between or Sanctuary? Published by Paradox, Age of Wonders 4 is a giant 4X game with a vision. It has depth, detail, and complexity, but it's not concerned with hardcore realism - on the contrary, it's focused on arcane rituals and mythical creatures, and it's just gotten even bigger thanks to a new DLC.

Best Black Ops 6 Model L loadout and class build

What is the best Model L loadout? Looking at the Model L you'd be forgiven for thinking there isn't anything special there; a no-frills assault rifle, it looks like it may have outlived its usefulness, even in a game set in the 90s. Well, think again. The Model L - especially with our loadout - is a fast-firing mid-range demon, and can take entire teams out in the blink of an eye.

Quickly finding itself on our Black Ops 6 best loadouts list, the Model L should be an instrument in everyone's locker, especially in Black Ops 6 maps with mid-range sight lines and long corridors. We've opted to completely kit out the assault rifle with the Gunfighter Wildcard, creating a Black Ops 6 weapon that can take on all comers.

One of my favorite city building games of all time is Majesty, the self-titled 'fantasy kingdom sim' where you don't actually control your units, but instead take the seat of an all-seeing monarch that just handles all the town management elements. Fitting that concept into a snappy roguelite format is the upcoming small-scale strategy game The King is Watching, and it's just launched an updated demo on Steam. What are the best Dragon Age The Veilguard skills? Half the fun of Bioware RPGs is taking a ragtag band of nobodies and watching them transform into legendary heroes. DA:V continues that tradition with Rook, our fresh-faced protagonist and unlikely leader of the titular Veilguard. Once you've determined Rook's lineage and class, unlocking skills is the next port of call.

Skills are the backbone of your build in Dragon Age 4, so getting to grips with how the skill tree works and what specializations can offer is essential. I've spent quite a lot of today trying to figure out why, exactly, some of the monsters in the Monster Hunter Wilds beta looked like bundles of copulating pyramids slathered in crocodile gravy. Nic clued me in on this reddit thread earlier, which cites unnamed Chinese players who've allegedly data-mined the beta's monster models, and learned that they are extremely large, encompassing hundreds of thousands of polygons.

If every monster in Monster Hunter Wilds were that fancy all of the time, your computer would become a volcano. As such, the game resorts to loading-on-demand systems to ensure that you only see those gorgeous details when the monsters are close by and, as the case may be, angrily sitting on you. When they're further afield, the flourishes fall away to free up memory and processing power. The popular Redditor explanation for the presence of monsters that look like Henry Moore sculpture is basically that the LOD systems are being forgetful, and neglecting to load the additional polygons at proximity.

As a yearly blockbuster, Call of Duty, through sheer expense and effort, would like you to think it is the Die Hard of video games. Or, depending on the setting, the Saving Private Ryan of video games. But it is barely Black Hawk Down. This latest campaign in Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6 reminds me more of the forgettable Netflix shootfests that thumbnail their way across your TV screen as you try to find some gritty nothing to aid you in zoning out of life. Still, there is an anecdotal contingent of casual sofa sitters for whom Call Of Duty is the game. A balls-to-the-wall shooter to return to every winter and rinse through in a weekend. Ed has already gestured at its multiplayer, announcing: "yup, it's COD", like a deeply tired Captain Birdseye inspecting the day's catch, wondering when his life will change. But never mind that. How does the single player story mode hold up? Some are calling it the best campaign in years. And I guess that's true, in the sense that it is the least worst.

Discourse? Look mate, I'm just here to test the Steam Deck. Dragon Age: The Veilguard runs like a tap on any halfway decent desktop hardware, so was naturally going to be worth trying on the weaker Deck. And sure enough, Bioware's RPG (which is really more of an action game with the occasional verbal spar) settles comfortably into handheld life.

In fact, Valve have festooned its Steam page with a Verified medal, a seal of approval for any game that performs and controls well on the Steam Deck without any glaring weaknesses or impractical annoyances. It's still worth playing around with the settings – more on those later – but I'll back up that official assessment, having played for several hours without so much as an undersized tooltip.

The trailer for Bambas! starts off innocently enough. It's an "innovative urban walking simulator" in which you play a disembodied pair of shoes, individually moved with a controller's analog sticks and trigger buttons. The first half of the trailer is all whimsy and playground fun - kicking a football, standing on a climbing frame, riding a skateboard. But then a note of darkness creeps in, as the player begins to channel the sheer nihilistic inconsequentiality of a world in which shoes have no thinking human bodies to restrain them.

To say that Factorio: Space Age throws out the rulebook is an understatement. It'd be more fitting to say it's somehow automated the whole process: an inserter plucked out the rulebook from my brain and deposited it in hot magma, while a new rulebook was churned out in a nearby machine and plopped into my brain from the other side - only for that to be immediately plucked out and incinerated as well. With each new planet and each new phase, Space Age reinvents itself. I'm battling hyperbole here, but ah hell, I admit defeat. Factorio: Space Age is a masterpiece, the final form of perhaps the most well-crafted building game I'll ever play.

Stardew Valley Pet Hats Causing Issues and Lag

One of the new features in the 1.6 Stardew Valley update is the ability to put hats on pets, but it seems that's causing performance issues like lag in the game. Eric "Concerned Ape" Barone took to social media to direct all players to remove the decorations to solve the problem.

Concerned Ape noted this is a known issue. There's no fix out yet. However, a patch will be issued to remedy the problem when it is possible. Since known Stardew Valley performance issues seem to be coming from people who did put hats on pets, removing them until a future update can address the problem should completely eliminate the issue.

In response to someone else commenting on the problem and asking about lore, Concerned Ape brought up an in-world explanation for why pets can't currently wear hats in Stardew Valley

https://twitter.com/ConcernedApe/status/1853890739413082199

This isn't the only part of Stardew Valley that might not work exactly as expected in 1.6. The update added experimental multiplayer to the mobile version of the game. As it is still in development, those who choose to enter the cheat code to enable it and test it out might find it doesn't work as well as the console and PC version multiplayer experiences.

Stardew Valley is available for the Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, PCs, mobile devices, and the PlayStation Vita. Patch 1.6 is available on the Switch, PS4, Xbox One, PC, and mobile devices.

Houshou Marine will make her proper appearance in Sound Voltex Exceed Gear in early November 2024. Konami revealed that it will add songs and other in-game content based on the Japanese Hololive Vtuber to the arcade and PC rhythm game.

A total of four songs performed by Marine will join the game's track roster. The songs will be "Ahoy!! We Are Houshou Pirates," "I'm Your Treasure Box," "Bishoujo Muzai Pirates," and "Dead Ma'am's Chest." The in-game decorations that players can obtain via the Premium Generator will only be available for a limited time until December 8, 2024. The other rewards in the collection will consist of ten voice appeal stamps and 21 movie wallpapers for the touch panels.

Houshou Marine had actually been featured in Sound Voltex since 2021, when Konami added songs from the #GENSOKYOholoism album. However, the previous wave did not include in-game character contents. With this new event, players will be able to have Marine actually appear in-game, just like Shirakami Fubuki, Nekomata Okayu, and Tsunomaki Watame.

Sound Voltex Exceed Gear is available in arcades and PCs via the Konami Station platform. The crossover content featuring Houshou Marine will be available to obtain from November 7 until December 8, 2024.

Sayaka Miki Joins Madoka Magica Magia Exedra Characters

Another magical girl from the original Puella Magi Madoka Magica is confirmed as a playable character in Madoka Magica Magia Exedra: Sayaka Miki. She'll also be able to be recruited when the game launches in 2024. Ahead of that, there's a very brief teaser trailer showing how she works in-game.

Sayaka, like Madoka, isn't a magical girl when the original anime begins. She's Madoka Kaname's best friend and meets Mami Tomoe, another magical girl, alongside her. She decides to sign a contract for the sake of a boy she has a crush on. As a result of that, she gains the ability to use swords to fight, and her trailer from the game shows her using one to attack an enemy.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ybYdGnHiNmU

Eri Kitamura is also confirmed as the Sayaka Miki voice actress for Madoka Magica Magia Exedra, so she'll be returning yet again to play the character in the game. In addition to the original anime, she's done so for the movies, games like Madoka Magica Portable, and crossover events in other games. People may also recognize her as the voice of Keqing in Genshin Impact, Juri in Street Fighter, and Nemona in the Pokemon anime.

While Sayaka is one of the more familiar series staples, we've seen plenty of unexpected confirmations for this upcoming free-to-play game too. For example, Ashley Taylor will be a part of the roster. She debuted in Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story, rather than one of the anime or manga off-shoots.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Magia Exedra will be available for mobile devices and the PC in Japanese and English via Steam in 2024.

Chapter 182 of the Chainsaw Man manga makes it seem like two characters from the Public Safety Saga could be returning.

Chapter 182 of the Chainsaw Man manga ends with a cliffhanger that potentially signals the return of two characters from the Public Safety Saga part of the story. There's no exact confirmation about their identities. More will be revealed when chapter 183 launches on November 12, 2024. The chapter is available to read for free on MangaPlus and Viz Media.

Editor's Note: There will be no spoilers for Chainsaw Man manga chapter 182 or the two characters' identities below.

Dragon Quest Fukubiki Lottery Special - Erdrick Legend Arc

Square Enix revealed that it is working with Lawson to launch a new merchandise lottery featuring Dragon Quest-themed items in mid-November 2024. The lottery will have the title "Dragon Quest Fukubiki-sho Special ~Roto's Legend Arc~," and it will be available at Square Enix storefronts and Lawson convenience stores across Japan.

This lottery will reward items inspired by the first three Dragon Quest mainline entries that feature the legend of Roto, who is alternatively known in the English localization as Erdrick. A single ticket in this lottery will cost 750 yen (~$4.95).

Prizes from this lottery will range from clips based on pixel character sprites to soft vinyl figures and plushies modeled after the series' monsters. One of the grand prizes will be a faux Adventurer's Book that will turn into a paper lamp when opened.

A set of metallic replicas of Roto/Erdrick's sword and shield will be available to the person who draws the final lottery ticket at any given outlet. Every ticket will also have a serial code that people can use to enter a bonus lottery, where 150 winners can get red-colored versions of the replicas.

Square Enix has also uploaded a trailer showcasing the lottery prize items on its Japanese YouTube channel:

1.6 Stardew Valley Mobile Patch Adds Experimental Multiplayer

Eric "Concerned Ape" Barone announced that it is possible for mobile Stardew Valley players to try out experimental multiplayer if they updated to the 1.6 version of the game. However, it is in development and not guaranteed to work.

Accessing the 1.6 Stardew Valley experimental mobile multiplayer involves entering a cheat code of sorts. The official site included an official screenshot with instructions. Essentially, we would need to tap the four leaves on the title screen in order, then tap the ? button on the main menu screen.

Here are the official instructions, alongside the official image, to unlock the co-op main menu option.

"Using the guide below, tap the leaves in this order:  ↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← →   … Then press the "?" button in the bottom right corner of the screen. (Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, ? )"

You could also think of this as tapping the upper right leaf twice, the lower left leaf twice, the upper left leaf, the lower right leaf, the upper left leaf, the lower left leaf, and the question block.

The host needs to have a farm and cabins ready, as well as get their IP address from their device in the Wi-Fi/Internet settings section for the other players. The other mobile players, after entering the cheat code, need to enter the IP as well. Everyone will need to be connected to the same Wi-Fi router or hotspot. Concerned Ape also cautioned against using a cell phone network. Those on mobile devices would be able to connect to other mobile players or a PC.

As a reminder, the 1.6 series of updates for Stardew Valley increased the multiplayer cap on platforms that support it. Up to eight people can now play together.

Stardew Valley is available for the Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, PCs, mobile devices, and the PlayStation Vita.

re-ment pokemon romantic collection

Re-Ment announced the Pokemon Romantic Collection, which will be a new set of goods resembling accessories cases. They'll come out on February 24, 2025, and the items in the set will be available in blind boxes. [Thanks, 4Gamer!]

There will be six variations in total. You'll be able to get Jigglypuff, Sylveon, Sprigatito, Galarian Ponyta, Alolan Vulpix, or Primarina. As mentioned earlier, these items resemble accessory cases that belong to the Pokemon in question. For example, the Primarina's box looks like a shell, and it's full of pearls. Meanwhile, the Sprigatito's case looks like a terrarium and it's full of flowers.

Each blind box costs 1265 JPY, or $8.30. You won't know which one you'll get when you purchase the box. However, it's possible to purchase a full collection if you want them all. Re-Ment items are usually available at hobby shops and anime stores in Japan. Whether they appear in other countries depend on the store, or you can use a proxy service.

Re-Ment has released little Pokemon items in the past. Goods from this store usually look like little displays or screenshots from the Pokemon world. Examples include aqua bottles (focusing on Water Types), bonsai trees, and terrariums. Like the Romantic Collection, these items are in blind boxes, but are also available as a full collection.

The Pokemon Romantic Collection from Re-Ment will come out on February 24, 2025.

Hololive Cyberpunk Ichiban Kuji

Bandai Spirits revealed a new Hololive Vtuber Ichiban Kuji merchandise lottery that will feature four Japanese Vtubers in cyberpunk-themed costumes. The lottery will be titled, "Hololive ~Cyberpunk Style~," and the company will launch it in Japan in late March 2025.

The Hololive ~Cyberpunk Style~ Ichiban Kuji will have new cyberpunk-themed figures modeled after the Vololive Gamers member Nekomata Okayu, the 0th Generation member Hoshimachi Suisei, the 3rd Generation Vtuber Usada Pekora, and the 6th-generation Secret Society holoX member Hakui Koyori. Each of these four figures will also have their own grand prize tiers.

A single ticket for this lottery will cost 850 yen (~$5.60), and there are no empty tickets so each of them will guarantee a prize item. However, Bandai Spirits has still yet to reveal those as of the initial reveal in early November 2024. The company will update the lottery's webpage with the full prize list in the coming days as it gets closer to the scheduled launch in March 2025.

The next TCG Card Shop Simulator will add a new mechanic that involves customers coming in to trade or sell their cards.

The next TCG Card Shop Simulator update will add the much-requested "customers trade card" feature to the early access game. OPNeon Games announced on Steam that the new gameplay element will be a part of the next patch.

The announcement for the update is very brief. OPNeon Games noted it will take about two weeks for the next TCG Card Shop Simulator update to arrive, because the "customers trade card" element will be a part of it. As a result, we will get a chance to either buy a specific card from an NPC or trade one from our collection to them. Details about rarities or potential price ranges didn't come up. There are also no screenshots or videos showing how the mechanic might work in-game.

TCG Card Shop Simulator entered early access back in September 2024. In it, players run a card shop that focuses on a Pokemon Trading Card Game-like TCG. In addition to running the store, you can also collect the cards yourself and open packs to see if you can find any valuable ones. The full 1.0 version of the game is expected to launch in 2025, with that one also including a playable version of the TCG.

This isn't OPNeon Games' only TCG-related title. The developer is also behind the mobile games Idle Card Shop Tycoon and its sequel.

TCG Card Shop Simulator is available in early access for PCs.

VTuber Shylily Discusses Upcoming Health Related Hiatus

Independent Vtuber Shylily announced on social media that she will eventually be taking a hiatus to address a health condition on November 4, 2024. She didn't announce when it will begin, however she did estimate that she will take a break that will last at least two months if needed.

Shylily noted that her hiatus will be due to her health issue potentially requiring surgery in the future, and the Vtuber would use a hiatus to recover from it. She didn't explain what her condition is, but reassured fans that it isn't "life-threatening."

Here is the full statement Shylily made concerning her health and a possible upcoming hiatus. We can likely expect there to be some time before any break, as she noted there will be "further consultations" before any surgery would occur.

meiko anniversary

Piapro has set up a special site for the 20th anniversary of Meiko, a Vocaloid that Yamaha Corporation developed and Crypton Future Media distributed. She first came out in November 2004.

The site includes information on some of the commemorative merchandise you'll be able to purchase. As well, you can check out Meiko's biography and past designs. Wasshi, who designed her V1 look, sent in the concept art, which you can check out on the website as well. As for goods that are part of the Meiko 20th anniversary celebrations, you'll be able to get figures like Nendoroids, as well as food items like sake and macarons.

As one of Piapro's Vocaloids, Meiko often appears in games like Project Diva. Some of the songs that appear in these games include "Mellow Yellow" and "Nostalgic." She also appears in ensemble tracks, or in duets with other Vocaloids like Kaito.

Singer-songwriter Meiko Haigo provides the vocal samples for Meiko. You can check out her YouTube channel and website for more information on her musical activities. Haigo is still holding live performances, and her most recent one was on November 3, 2024. Her next one will be on December 8, 2024.

The Meiko site will continue to update whenever there are new campaigns or projects that are part of the 20th anniversary for the Vocaloid.

genshin impact genius invokation

The Genshin Impact in game TCG, Genius Invokation, is about to become something you can play in real life. You'll be able to unleash your inner Cyno from November 8, 2024, which is when pre-orders open for cards and decks. [Thanks, heiankyo_327!]

This is a collaborative effort between HoYoVerse and ShiningSoul. ShiningSoul is a Shanghai-based company specializing in hobby merchandise. It previously released cards based off series like Fate/stay night and Identity V. Each deck will have three character cards, thirty action cards, and seven equipment cards. There will be eight variations to purchase, and this is only the first collection. So if the character card you want isn't available, it might appear in the future. As a note, you can play Genius Invokation with these cards if you want to. They're also collector's items.

In Genshin Impact, Genius Invokation is a TCG minigame in which you play a card game against your friends, NPCs, or playable characters. Each player has three character cards, and you win after you defeat all three of your opponent's characters. You can also support your characters with action cards and such to heal them or improve their attack power. The Genius Invokation in-game uses elemental dice to determine the attacks you can use. However, it doesn't seem like the ShiningSoul decks come with dice.

Genshin Impact is readily available on the PS4, PS5, Windows PC, and mobile devices.

final fantasy vii rebirth patch 1.050

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth patch 1.050 is now available to download. Aside from adding "Versatility Mode" for PS5 Pro players, this update also fixes some minor bugs and improves stability.

Versatility Mode adds 60 FPS support for PS5 Pro players. It also lets you view the game with the same visual fidelity as the Graphics Mode. These improvements make the in-game rendering look richer when it comes to combat and cutscenes. This is specifically for PS5 Pro players.

Square Enix announced this patch in late September 2024. The tweet stating that it's now live in the game includes screenshots showing how the game looks now on the field, in combat, and in cutscenes.

You can check them out here:

https://twitter.com/finalfantasyvii/status/1853555004533301504?s=61

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is the sequel to Final Fantasy VII Remake, and it's the second game in the reimagined Final Fantasy VII trilogy. It came out in February 2024, and was both a critical and financial success for Square Enix. Whereas the first game mostly took place in Midgar, this one has the party travel across the Planet to stop Shinra from exploiting the Lifestream.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is readily available on the PS5. The exclusivity arrangement expired on May 29, 2024. So the game may appear in the future on other platforms like Windows PC.
