New Crusader Kings 3 Wandering Nobles DLC met with rocky reception

Over the years Paradox has had a rocky time with DLC. While some expansions and DLC packs have gone over extremely well with the strategy community, such as Holy Fury for Crusader Kings 2 or Art of War for Europa Universalis 4, it's fair to say the publisher has been raked over the coals a few times too. The latest DLC for Crusader Kings 3, Wandering Nobles, is no exception and is already beginning to struggle right after launch. It's currently sitting on a 'mixed' rating on Steam with a backlash brewing among fans.

Fortnite Chapter 1 will return to the battle royale

Roughly this time last year, Fortnite saw its highest player count ever as nostalgic gamers flooded back to the battle royale for its mini OG season, which brought back the original Chapter 1 island. Right now, Epic Games is trying to replicate that success with Chapter 2 Remix, another mini season that includes content from some of the best seasons of that era. However, according to two prominent leakers, classic Fortnite Chapter 1 content will be returning soon in a major way - and this time it'll be for the long haul.

Widget Inc is a new industrial idle game that might be your next obsession

I love clicker and idle games. From Clicker Heroes to Cookie Clicker, Realm Grinder, Paperclips, and A Dark Room, there's something about that incremental journey from nothing to massive, earth-shattering numbers that draws me in every time. So you can imagine how I felt when I learned that there's a new incremental game that also has some of the DNA of Factorio in it. In short, my interest was more than piqued. If that sounds like your kind of melange then Widget Inc might be right up your alley, and it's already making waves just days after launch.

manga library z shut down

After 14 years, Manga Library Z will shut down its online services on November 26, 2024. According to the announcement, this is due to the site having trouble with credit card companies and the like these past few years.

Manga Library Z was an online service that allowed people to read out-of-print manga series, while also providing income to the original artists in the form of ad revenue. Some of the series that Manga Library Z are exceptionally rare, or are now only available in digital format. Ken Akamatsu, the creator of series like Love Hina and now a Japanese politician, created Manga Library Z (then J-Comi) back in 2010. At the time, online manga libraries were quite rare. But Manga Library Z managed to survive even with more competition than ever.

The announcement then gives more details on why the site has to go down. This is due to payment services like credit card companies cutting off ties with them. Since this would lead to a loss of income, Manga Library Z tried to protest this, but the companies didn't budge on this decision. Without money, the site can't give any profits back to the authors and so it decided to shut down the site instead of betraying the artists' or fans' trust. It apologizes for this decision. This isn't the end of Manga Library Z though, and the site is looking for different ways to start it up again. Some possibilities include crowdfunding or becoming a non-profit.

Manga Library Z will shut down on November 26, 2024.

kazuo umezu died

Manga artist and musician Kazuo Umezu has died. He passed away on October 28, 2024 at the age of 88. [Thanks, Oricon!]

According to a fax from general incorporated foundation UMEZZ, Umezu's family and friends held a private funeral. Umezu's wish when he was alive was for his works to reach people all around the world, and that people would continue to read them for generations to come. The fax ends by thanking all of the readers who appreciated Umezu's work, as well as everyone who supported him over the years. Shogakukan also left a message praising the lasting impact Umezu left on genres like horror, humor, and sci-fi.

Umezu had been diagnosed with stomach cancer in July 2024 and was on hospice care from September 2024. Even at the time, he was thinking of new manga ideas and wanted to work on it after he got better. In a Yomiuri Shimbun article on Umezu's death, writer Kanta Ishida stated that Umezu believed humans wouldn't lose to machines, and that he would create a story "that will not bow to quantum computers."

Kazuo Umezu is "the god of horror manga," with many series based on Japanese monsters and mythologies. Some of his works include Hebi Obasan, Baptism, and Osore. Aside from his career as a mangaka, he also worked on films, music, and video games. Even if you haven't read any of Umezu's work, he made a lasting mark on Japanese pop culture through his influence on other artists. Rumiko Takahashi (Inuyasha, Ranma ½, and more) was one of his assistants. Junji Ito (Tomie, Uzumaki, and more) also read and admired his work.

Other major deaths in the Japanese pop culture world in 2024 include those of Akira Toriyama, Nobuyo Oyama, Atsuko Tanaka, and Sayuri.

jujutsu kaisen glasses

Zoff will release a collection of glasses based on the characters from Jujutsu Kaisen. You can pre-order them now, and they'll also appear in Zoff's digital and physical stores from December 13, 2024. [Thanks, PR Times!]

There are five Jujutsu Kaisen glasses variations in total. You'll be able to get glasses that draw inspiration from Yuji, Fushiguro, Kugisaki, Gojo, and Nanami. The frames generally use the color palettes of the characters' respective Cursed Techniques. For example, Yuji's frames are the same color as his Black Flash and the design tries to emulate the sense of strength the technique has. Gojo's frames are thinner than the others to represent Infinity, and there are red-and-blue designs to look like his abilities.

You can check out the different designs for the Jujutsu Kaisen glasses here:

Zoff previously released designs based off characters from Honkai: Star Rail, Hunter x Hunter, and Demon Slayer. Similar to brands like U-Treasure and Mayla, while Zoff does release merchandise that are based off anime or video games, it also sells normal glasses for a general audience. Zoff also offers international shipping, so you can purchase them even if you don't live in Japan.

You can watch Jujutsu Kaisen on streaming services like Crunchyroll, and Viz Media has licensed the manga in English.

dragon quest slime gummies

For a limited time, the Dragon Quest Slime gummies will come in a special pack depicting Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake. The gummies themselves are the same as they always are. [Thanks, PR Times!]

The Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake Slime gummies are available for pre-order via the Square Enix e-Store. You'll also be able to purchase them in stores like Lawson from November 15, 2024. As a note, the e-Store is only selling boxes, with each box containing ten bags. So if you only want one bag, you might not want to order it from the official Square Enix store.

The Dragon Quest Slime gummies resemble the monsters from the series. All of them taste like soda. However, if you're lucky, you might encounter a gummy that looks like the Metal Slime. The Metal Slime gummy has a mixed texture and tastes like cola.

Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake is, as you may expect, the HD-2D remake of Dragon Quest III. Dragon Quest III originally came out in 1988 for the Famicom, and it's part of the Erdrick trilogy. As such, if you don't play the first two Dragon Quest games, you may not be able to completely follow the story. This is in contrast to later games, which are more self-contained. You can read our preview of Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake here.

Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake will come out for PS5, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch, and Windows PC on November 14, 2024.

final fantasy vii young angeal

In early October 2024, the Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis Twitter account posted a video introducing a young version of Angeal, but did you know an even younger version of Angeal first appeared in Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion? He doesn't show up as a character, per se, but rather as an easter egg you can see in a photo.

https://twitter.com/ffviir_cloud/status/1853633342329291155

The official Twitter account for the Final Fantasy VII Remake series posted several screenshots from Reunion. In them, Zack is looking at several photos of Angeal from his youth. One picture shows him as a baby, and another shows him soon after he became a SOLDIER. Zack points out yet another photo, depicting Angeal with Genesis. All of these photos are difficult to see, as they're more akin to props in the game. But if you zoom in on the pictures, you can make him out.

The young version of Angeal debuted in Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis in mid-October 2024, as part of the The First Soldier storyline. In the mainline games, Angeal Hewley is a major supporting character and is a SOLDIER 1st Class in charge of mentoring Zack. He was the one who passed down the Buster Sword to Zack, who in turn passed it down to Cloud. Since Angeal is part of Zack's story, he was only in Crisis Core and not the original Final Fantasy VII.

Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis is available on Windows PC and mobile devices. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion is available on the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Windows PC.

Nintendo promotes Mario bags and other goods ahead of Mario and Luigi Brothership release

Nintendo shared a new tweet on its official X account for its physical stores in Japan. It promotes bags and other merchandise themed after Mario and Luigi ahead of the global release of Mario and Luigi: Brothership in early November 2024.

The tweet is also available to view right below:

https://twitter.com/n_officialstore/status/1853608458073047182

The items shown are not newly released, though. The Mario merchandise has been available since as early as 2021. The items themed after Luigi debuted more recently on June 27, 2024. Nintendo released the latter to coincide with the global launch of Luigi's Mansion 2 HD on the same day.

Even though the goods have been available since long before the release of Mario and Luigi: Brothership, Nintendo still has ample stocks for most of them in its storefronts in Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto. The metal clasp purses are available at 1,980 yen (~$13) each, while the tote bags are priced at 4,180 yen (~$27.45) for the regular size and 3,300 yen (~$21.70) for the mini version. Nintendo added, however, that the available stocks for Mario's tote bags as of early November 2024 are not as many as Luigi's versions.

Mario and Luigi: Brothership will be available on Nintendo Switch simultaneously worldwide on November 7, 2024. The game is also alternatively known in Japan with a slightly different title, which is Mario and Luigi RPG: Brothership.
