sega classics delisting

Sega will be delisting its classic games from digital storefronts from December 6, 2024. However, if you previously bought them, then the titles will remain in your library to download in the future.

The entire library of Sega Classics games is available on the webpage announcing the delisting. So if you're curious about a specific title, you can check that out. Affected storefronts are Steam, the Microsoft Store, Nintendo Switch eShop, and PlayStation Store. This only has to do with games that you buy and download onto your device. So individual classic titles that are available via a Nintendo Switch Online subscription will still be playable.

Affected titles include:

  • Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle
  • Crazy Taxi
  • Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine
  • Ecco Jr.
  • Golden Axe
  • Phantasy Star II
  • Shining Force
  • Space Harrier II
  • Streets of Rage
  • ToeJam & Earl
  • Virtua Fighter 2

Again, the full list is available on Sega's website.

It's unclear why Sega is delisting its Mega Drive and Genesis Classics titles. Some of these games are only available in their original format, as there were never remasters or ports of them. Others will see a revival, but as new entries in the franchise. If there's a game that you're curious about, you may want to purchase it to keep in your library for the future. There's no telling whether Sega plans to bring these back.

Sega will be delisting its Sega Classics games on December 6, 2024 at 11:59 PM PST.
