Medieval storefront simulator Potion Craft gets massive free update

Potion Craft: Alchemy Simulator has a great premise. Rather than focus on the medieval battles or town and country management seen in games like Manor Lords, Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord, or Crusader Kings 3, Potion Craft takes a more intimate — and slightly fanciful — look at one particular aspect of the past: Managing an alchemy shop. And now, despite having launched almost two years ago, it's just received a massive free update that adds in new modes and features meant to provide even more expansive options for making and selling potions.

Stalker 2's most annoying problem gets fixed with vital new mod

Stalker 2 has finally launched after many years of anticipation from fans of the notably unique (and notably unforgiving) survival FPS game. While it's been well received by many players, it's not without its share of faults. Some of these are technical, with creator GSC Game World working steadily to address small and large bugs alike, but some of its issues are related to intended elements of the game's design. A new mod looks to address the latter category, improving players' experiences in the Zone by lightening the weight of certain items.

It isn't uncommon for games to spend a long time in early access, but the four years it's taken for Deadside to move from debuting on Steam and into its 1.0 launch is definitely one of the lengthiest we've seen in a while. Still, the open world survival sim, which includes the multiplayer gunfights, exploration, and crafting of games like Rust, DayZ, and Sons of the Forest, appears to have been worth the wait, if its reception so far is anything to go by.

They use a crossbow, and unlike the Ranger's bow, crossbows fire instantly instead of needing to be drawn back.      Path of Exile 2 is a bold and brilliant new breed of ARPG

Path of Exile 2 could have been a much safer game. The first PoE has spent a decade growing and evolving, earning ever more fans over the years, and sits tall atop the pinnacle of rich, rewarding action RPGs, fending off strong challenges from contenders such as Diablo 4 and Last Epoch. Yet Grinding Gear Games has always been one to experiment. And so in PoE 2 - a game that started life as a simple model update for its predecessor, only to grow into a standalone beast - GGG rips up its own rulebook to create something that feels definitively new and exciting.

2024 has been a great year for roguelikes all around, but one of my favorites has been Ravenswatch. At first look, you might be forgiven for thinking it's in the Hades mold, and there are certainly some similarities, but developer Passtech Games has built a much more open-ended ARPG with character-driven combat reminiscent of games like Diablo. Filled with a fantastic cast of immediately recognizable fairytale faces, Ravenswatch has won itself a 'very positive' Steam rating so far, and it's about to get even better in 2025 with the addition of not one but two new heroes coming as free DLC.

Asus ROG just teased a new 27-inch 4K OLED gaming monitor, with a cat

Asus has just hinted at a new ROG OLED gaming monitor in the works, which looks like it's going to be a 27-inch model with a 4K resolution. Based on the company's previous model numbers, it looks as though the new Asus ROG Swift OLED PG27UCDM will also have a 240Hz refresh rate, making it ideal for gamers wanting a high-resolution screen that won't take over their desk.

OLED monitors now occupy several of the categories on our best gaming monitor guide, thanks to their high contrast, quick responsiveness, and great HDR reproduction. Most OLED monitors are based on 32-inch panels and larger, though, and the 27-inch models usually have a 2,560 x 1,440 refresh rate. If this new Asus monitor has the expected specs, then it could carve out a niche for itself.

The protagonists of two of my all time favourite RPGs share something in common. Both (the best Final Fantasy game) Final Fantasy 8's Squall and The Witcher 3's Geralt simply cannot get enough of leaving their friends and the entire world in mortal peril while they sneak in a quick round of cards, and I love them for it. Way back when the Wild Hunt released, there was a special edition kicking about that gave you a few decks for Gwent - the fleshed-out, playable card distraction that ended up being responsible for some of the game's best moments. I pined for those decks, but I never acquired them. Now, Hatchette Board Games is putting out a full physical edition of Gwent next year.

The set contains "over 400 cards and a playmat" for £44/$39.99. I'm still recovering from various Fantasy Flight LCGs, so my value sense for this stuff might be a bit skewed, but that strikes me as incredibly reasonable. A good Gwent deck consists of only about 25 cards. They're not bad cards, either! I've got a real pet hate for tabletop versions of videogames that just use in-engine screenshots for the cards, but these ones look to have the proper artwork from the game on them:

Where were you during the Summer of Doronko Wanko? Why, I remember it like it was March, and not actually Summer, when the delightful free game about a mucky pomeranian was unleashed into the world. Yep, yep. It was definitely March. As a reminder, Jump Festa 2025 will be held at the Makuhari Messe International Exhibition Hall on December 21 to December 22, 2024, and other upcoming titles will see demos, such as the highly anticipated Monster Hunter Wilds.

Hunter x Hunter Nen x Impact will appear for the Nintendo Switch, PS5, and PC in 2025, after being delayed from its initial 2024 window. The Hunter x Hunter anime is available to watch on Crunchyroll. You can also buy the localized manga from Viz Media.

marry a deep one

While scrolling YouTube one day, I noticed a really interesting short from Japanese gaming news site GameWith about games that let you play as a villain protagonist. Lovecraftian horror and political sim Marry a Deep One: Innsmouth Simulator was one of the featured titles. Since it's not out yet, I decided to download the demo and check it out. Its unique game style and story definitely piqued my interest and I'm excited to see more of the finished product once it comes out, though I suspect you really won't need to enjoy these kinds of text-heavy simulation games to find it fun.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sw0gSv05GhE

In Marry a Deep One, you make a pact with the Deep Ones, aquatic eldritch abominations with an uncanny resemblance to Aquarus from Invincible. Thanks to your pact with these gods, you become something of a figurehead in your seaside community, as well as the religious leader of a cult. The "Innsmouth Simulator" of the title is from the default name of the seaside town, but you're free to customize it, as well as your appearance and the names of the different families. In the game proper, you can convert your fellow villagers or visiting outsiders, as well as either sacrifice them to the Deep Ones or convince them to sign their souls away to unholy matrimony in the same way you did. The demo was rather short, only letting you play a few in-game days, but it gave a pretty good idea of what you can expect.

While there is a cute map complete with little sprites of everyone to look at, most of the action is conveyed via dialog or description. If you're not trying to convert more people to your cult, you're completing different tasks from people. For example, the Deep Ones asked me to use clues in order to pinpoint a specific villager. You'll be spending a lot of time trying to find people for a myriad of reasons, but the game's robust search system makes this pretty fun and easy. Aside from requests to fulfill, you might also need to complete little tasks around town to make things easier for you down the line. I spent an entire day building more houses or expanding the existing ones so the villagers would stop complaining about how cramped their living quarters were and listen to my sermons.

As a note, the demo is pretty short. I definitely didn't experience everything the game had to offer and I didn't have enough time to see the consequences of my decisions. It's funny that it was so short and yet for my first playthrough, I had to fast forward through most of the year. Conversely, there was another run where I received lots of requests from the villagers and the Deep Ones. So RNG may affect your enjoyment of the game as well. I personally think more is better than less, so I hope the full version will fill up each in-game day better.

Marry a Deep One is pretty subdued and slow-paced. People who enjoy simulations but don't want anything too difficult or stressful may enjoy this one. It's hard to tell just how many things you'll have to balance just from the demo though. I never had problems making new homes for my villagers. But I'm guessing that the full version will require me to prevent outsiders from discovering our disgusting cultish ways and stop visiting, since we rely on the resources they bring in. Other aspects the player needs to balance are the villagers' despair, the believers' faith, and the Deep Ones' anger. Again, thanks to how short the demo was, I wasn't able to see what happens if the Deep Ones became too angry with me, nor could I tell what the merit was in raising or lower despair.

In a game with so many parameters though, it's fun to experiment. If only I could experiment though! My first playthrough only took about forty minutes, and I didn't accomplish much since I was still trying to figure things out. So the next day, I tried to play a new character. Unfortunately, for some reason, the game consistently gave me a fatal error and then crashed to desktop. There was no rhyme or reason to when it would happen, so I couldn't pinpoint any specific actions or points in the game that would cause it to break like this. This problem persisted even after I uninstalled and reinstalled the demo. Since I was still able to complete my initial run with minimal issues, I wonder if there's something in the code that prevents people from completing the demo more than once.

It's hard to describe what makes the game fun and what it's like to play the game when I literally can't play for more than fifteen minutes a run. The only time I fully finished the demo, I had to fast forward through most of the day because my RNG luck was bad with requests and I didn't know what I was doing. Though the in-game tutorial did a good job of showing me how to navigate all the menus, I still didn't understand a lot of the mechanics. Sigils, for example, are something you can draw on houses and each sigil has a different effect. But in my time playing the game, I didn't know what effect they had on the residents. The one time I tried to look around the menu to see if there was an explanation, my game crashed. So I gave up.

Marry a Deep One seems to promise a slower-paced political sim with plenty of Lovecraftian elements. However, due to the demo's short play time and difficulty in getting it to work again for a second playthrough, it's hard to tell what the final product will be like. As a fan of these sorts of eldritch horror games though, I plan to keep an eye on the game after it comes out to see what else lies in the waters of Innsmouth.

Marry a Deep One will come out on December 8, 2024 for the Windows PC.

Sonic the Hedgehog and Tails Become Transformers Toys

Sega and Hasbro announced that there will be a new crossover between the Sonic the Hedgehog series and Transformers that results in Sonic and Tails joining the toy line. They will be available together in a $49.99 set in Summer 2025, with pre-orders available through Hasbro Pulse Premium and Target at 10am PT/1pm ET on December 10, 2024.

Both the Sonic and Tails Transformers characters will be able to transform into vehicles present in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. Each one is five inches tall. Both also come with weapon accessories to wield.

Sonic is referred to as the Blue Booster. When in the car form, it looks like the Speed Star car the character uses in both the Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing and Sonic Racing series. Hasbro and Sega noted it requires 27 steps to shift between a humanoid shape and a car, or vice versa.

Here's how Sonic will look:

Tails  is referred to as the Wingtail figure. People can change him into a plane. That ends up looking like the red version of the Tornado that first showed up in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. It takes a few more steps to become a plane, as you need to make 32 moves for that to happen.

And this is what Tails will look like:

Hasbro and Sega also shared detailed images of both together with us:

This is the second recent game crossover announced involving Transformers. Back in September 2024, Capcom confirmed there would be a Monster Hunter collaboration. The character represented there is Rathalos, with the ensuing figure being Rathalos Prime.

The Sonic the Hedgehog Transformers toys will launch in Summer 2025. You need to go through Hasbro Pulse Premium or Target for the set.

New Hatsune Miku Pokemon Song Is 'Evolution Evolution Evolution'

Another Hatsune Miku Pokemon Project Voltage song is live, and this latest one is a Sasuke Haraguchi track called "Evolution Evolution Evolution." Music in the series comes from popular Vocaloid producers and involves the iconic character's bank mixed with sound effects and songs from the game series' soundtrack.

As the name "Evolution Evolution Evolution" suggests, this Hatsune Miku song prominently features the sound effects that come up as a Pokemon is about to evolve in the game. The first 30 seconds features that repeating on a loop. We also hear sounds from and references to creatures that can evolve.

Here's the full Haraguchi Vocaloid song from YouTube:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_kA7kM3Sos&ab_channel=%E5%8E%9F%E5%8F%A3%E6%B2%99%E8%BC%94

The song is available via multiple methods, with the Karent page listing full streaming and download options. For example, it can be streamed on services like Amazon Music, Apple Music, and Spotify. You can also get buy a copy of the MP3 for ¥250 (~$1.67).

This is the first song from the Project Voltage High continuing project. The official social media account for the project teased that this will be a new effort that builds off of the original collection of tracks. Those first started rolling out in September 2023, with Deco 27's "Volt Tackle" being the first to debut in that series.

The original 18 Project Voltage Hatsune Miku songs were typically based on Pokemon types. After that, we saw a few additional songs start rolling out in May 2024, with one being Kanaria's "Champion." The last songs to appear before "Evolution Evolution Evolution" were two remixes of "Electrical Forecast" and "Journey's Prequels, Journey's Traces" that showed up in November 2024.

Among the latest new Crunchyroll 2025 anime announcements are the Attack on Titan: The Last Attack movie and Fire Force season 3.

The Brazil SP Expo's CCXP 2024 panel, Crunchyroll revealed a number of 2025 anime series and confirmed it picked up the Attack on Titan: The Last Attack movie. It also confirmed that Fire Force season 3 will air on the service starting in April 2025, just like seasons 1 and 2, as well as the new MAPPA series Zenshu in January 2025.

In the case of the Attack on Titan: The Last Attack movie, Crunchyroll won't be handling that latest film everywhere. If you're living in the US, Canada, Mexico, some Latin American countries, Brazil, some European countries, Australia, New Zealand, the Middle East, or Africa, the company will handle distribution of it. In Asia, it is out of Crunchyroll's hands. It will appear in early 2025.

In the case of Fire Force season 3, it is being described as the "final chapter" for the anime series. So this should be completely it. Not all of it will be available at once, however. The show is being split into two cours. The first will air in April 2025. The second arrives in January 2026.

Here's the trailer for the third season:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-vkoK1asrc&ab_channel=Crunchyroll

As for Zenshu, that's the series about a woman who is an anime genius. She's already come off of one animation success. However, as the director prepares for her next project, she finds she doesn't have the firsthand, real-world experience to create it. The latest trailer for that appeared too. Soon, the creator who resembles Sadako from The Ring finds herself isekai-ed away into the world of her creation, which she can influence with her drawing abilities.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SuKb2IymZfA&ab_channel=Crunchyroll

Here's the full list of all CCXP 2024 Crunchyroll new anime series announcements:

  • Attack on Titan: The Last Attack movie: Early 2025
  • Farmagia: January 2025
  • Even Given the Worthless "Appraiser" Class, I'm Actually the Strongest: January 2025
  • Grisaia Phantom Trigger: January 2025
  • Magic Maker: How to Make Magic in Another World: January 2025
  • Nyaight of the Living Cat: 2025
  • Teogonia: 2025
  • Unnamed Memory season 2: January 2025
  • Zenshu: January 2025

We'll see multiple new Crunchyroll anime series debut in January 2025.

Dokibird Nendoroid Prototype Revealed Ahead of Figure Pre-orders

In July 2024, Good Smile Company and Dokibird announced the independent Vtuber would join the Nendoroid figure line. When that happened, only an unpainted prototype appeared. Now, pre-orders are closer to opening and more details appeared about the collectible and its accessories.

Dokibird first brought up the latest reveals for the Nendoroid during her Marvel Rivals launch day stream, which involved comparisons of the unpainted prototype to the painted version of the figure. You can see the segment at about the 3 hour and 44 minute mark. She began by showing the unpainted version, which didn't include any accessories and only featured a pose of her waving. The latest version shows the same painted version of the figure with the same faceplate, while also including some of the accessories that come with it.

Dokibird shared a photo of that on social media as well. She said that she was consulted when it came to accessories for the figure. She said she picked the Crowki, Dragoon, and Tomato mascots, with the Dragoon being one the character can hold.

https://twitter.com/dokibird/status/1864905810339357045

There's no pre-order date yet for the Nendoroid. However, during the stream Dokibird suggested that would be happening soon.

There's already a Dokibird figure available from an official retailer, with YouTooz having worked with the Vtuber before. That was revealed back in June 2024. It sold out on the official site. That's expected to appear by December 11, 2024.

The indie Vtuber is quite busy at the moment. She held an Apex Legends tournament with other Vtubers in November 2024. She's also up for the Best Vtuber award at the Stream Awards 2024 alongside people like Ironmouse and Zentreya.

The Dokibird Nendoroid is in development, with pre-orders apparently set to open soon.

Houshou Marine Kiki Ippatsu Pop-up Pirate will be actually sold

The Pop-up Pirate crossover toy featuring Houshou Marine is real, and it will appear worldwide in mid-2025. Cover has confirmed via the Hololive Production X account that it has opened pre-orders for the toy set. The company will formally release Houshou Marine Kiki Ippatsu in July 2025.

The toy originally appeared as a proposed project during a livestream held in May 2024, when Marine celebrated her 3 million YouTube subscribers milestone that she reached in January 2024. The pirate-themed Vtuber approached Takara Tomy to produce a Pop-up Pirate toy modeled after herself after playing a game using the original toy with the company's staff members. After over half a year passed since the stream, Tomy has confirmed that it will actually produce and sell the crossover toy with Cover.

As with the original Pop-up Pirate, players will take turns stabbing a knife into the barrel after placing the Houshou Marine doll inside it. The person who manages to make Marine jump out with their stab will win the game.

The toy set will be available at ¥4,400 / $28.00. The Hololive Production Official Shop can ship the product to select countries and territories in the Americas, Asia, and New Zealand. People residing elsewhere worldwide can alternatively place their orders on Geek Jack.

Cover will start shipping the Pop-up Pirate-inspired Houshou Marine Kiki Ippatsu set in early July 2025.
