Steam's creepiest new horror game now has a free demo

Unnerving as they are, I love liminal spaces. These endless rooms and corridors that have a distinctly menacing aura about them, but nothing you can quite put your finger on. I have an innate curiosity towards them, and whatever spookiness they might hold. As such, I find Backrooms on Steam to be very enticing indeed.

Elden Ring and Darkest Dungeon unite in new Steam ARPG, playable now

Beginning with Demon's Souls and then gradually refined through Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Sekiro, and Elden Ring, From Software has successfully cultivated a new genre of RPG, one that myriad other developers have been eager to emulate - the hallowed soulslike. Difficult, dark, and steeped in obtuse but rich world-building, the soulslike is finding further expression in the likes of Lords of the Fallen and Nioh. Now, perhaps the most en vogue genre of the last five years is being combined with party-personality-management twist of Darkest Dungeon, a slight hint of iconoclastic horror shooter Killer7, and a warped contemporary setting for a new ARPG, available to play right this second as part of Steam Next Fest.

AMD issues crucial fix for new Ryzen CPUs

Working with motherboard partners, AMD has issued a fix for an issue affecting its Ryzen 8000G CPUs, to resolve severe and erroneous performance throttling. This patch amends the Skin Temperature-Aware Power Management (STAPM) feature built into the chips to prevent laptop users getting burnt.

The problem appeared in the just launched 8700G and 8600G APUs, which are processors with very powerful integrated graphics designed for use in small form factor gaming PCs that don't use or need a separate graphics card. While not really conventional contenders for our best gaming CPU list, we've been impressed by the reported capabilities of these AMD chips - such as their ability to hit 132fps in Fortnite without a graphics card - but they launched with this peculiar STAPM-related problem.

     Astro A50 X review – A multi-platform triumph

It has been years since the original Astro A50 made its debut, and in all that time it hasn't changed. However, with the A50 X, Astro - now owned by Logitech - has made some big changes, adding one of the most useful and unique features we've seen on a gaming headset. That feature is known as Playsync, and it lets the A50 X connect to multiple consoles, a PC, and a Bluetooth device all at the same time via a single wireless connection.

It's easy for me to label the Astro A50 X as one of the best gaming headsets available because it just does it all without missing a beat. If you're after a single headset to take mastery over your whole gaming domain, this is the headset for you.

When is the Paralives release date? This upcoming life sim has been likened to The Sims, and it's easy to see why. With cute outfits, tons of items, an extensive character creator, build mode, and extra features we wish were in The Sims, there's a lot to look forward to.

Paralives is an ambitious project, but we already know a fair bit about what's headed to this simulation game. What first started off as a Patreon project by a lone developer in 2019, has developed into a life sim game set to rival the genre. Though the studio does rely on community pledges to keep the game in development, the official website is great at keeping the community up to date with progress and what to expect next.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Event Coming to FFVII Ever Crisis

One of the many recent Final Fantasy VII Rebirth announcements from Square Enix is that there will be a FFVII Ever Crisis crossover involving the game. That will kick off on February 15, 2024.

Here's the trailer for the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth crossover heading to the game. It focuses on the flashback to the early days of Cloud's encounter with Sephiroth, showing the two of them when they went on a mission to Nibelheim. There are no details about what the event will entail and if it could involve another playable version of Sephiroth.

https://twitter.com/FFVII_EC_EN/status/1755035197891121252

This is one of many, many announcements we heard about for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth following the February 2024 dedicated State of Play. During that presentation we saw a trailer revealing new characters, gained access to a new demo, saw new key art, and gained access to an array of new screenshots.

As for Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis, the most recent updates for it added things like Valentine's Day equipment for Yuffie and Tifa.

Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis is available for the PC and mobile devices, and the FFVII Rebirth event will begin on February 15, 2024. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will come to the PS5 on February 29, 2024, with the exclusivity arrangement ending on May 29, 2024.

Keeping Up With Star Rail Explained the Honkai: Star Rail Misha Moveset

When the 2.0 update arrived for Honkai: Star Rail, it also added the four-star Destruction character Misha to the pool of available characters. To help people understand how the new ice-type ally works, there's a new "Keeping Up with Star Rail" episode discussing him.

As usual, the video started by showing him a bit in Penacony, before going into combat. His basic attack deals ice damage to a single target. His R-Room Service Skill deals primary ice damage to one enemy and splash damage to the ones next to it. At the same time, it increases the number of hits for his Ultimate by one for each use. His Ultimate G-Gonna Be Late normally hits three times, with the first hitting a designated foe and the other hits hitting random ones. If the Skill was used before it, more random hits are landed. Also, his Ultimate has a chance of applying the Frozen status effect to any enemy it hits. Depending on how many times you use his Skill before his Ultimate, it can hit up to 10 times.

Here's the full Misha "Keeping Up with Star Rail" installment that explained the new Honkai: Star Rail character's moveset.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9aqel3hHRgk&ab_channel=Honkai%3AStarRail

This is the second one in a row to appear. As a reminder, the February 6, 2024 entry in this video series focused on Black Swan. She's the new DoT character that focuses on Arcana effects.

Honkai: Star Rail is available for the PS5, PC, and mobile devices. Misha is now permanently available following being added in the February 6, 2024 2.0 update.

Foamstars Best Characters

Foamstars has a vibrant cast of characters, each of whom is best suited to a different playstyle. While the differences aren't immediately obvious, here is where each of the characters excels and how you can best use them for your style of play.

Screenshot by Siliconera

Soa is the Best Character for Evasive Play

This K-pop star's love of dance makes her one of the best characters in Foamstars for movement. Her run speed is quick and her weapon fires has a quick fire rate. However the key thing that makes her so evasive is her L1 Skill, Bubble Step. This is a convenient get-out move that allows her to jump in whatever direction suits, leaving a barrage of shots in her wake. This move can even be used mid-jump, effectively giving her a double jump other characters lack.

Her R1 Skill, Spiky Beat, works well with her evasive style too, as it can be thrown out as she's ducking between cover, putting pressure on opponents. Her Superstar Skill, Gotta Crush, is also best used evasively, as the shield will break after taking sustained damage, but if you can sneak up on opponents with it, it can be devastating.

Screenshot by Siliconera

Agito is the Best Character for Up-Close Pressure

Agito is all about getting up close to his opponent. His shotgun is slow, but creates a wall of projectiles in front of him that also causes significant damage. He also has a minor evasive move in his R1 skill, Storm Shot 2EZ, that throws out a shuriken that can cause an explosion.

His L1 Skill and Superstar Skill are where his pressure game excels though. Deep Blue Gank allows Agito to swim through foam unseen, where can jump out and do some damage on exit. Meanwhile, THX GG sees him accompanied by his shark buddy Kirimaru, who adds to the pressure.

Screenshot by Siliconera

Tonix is the Best Character for Defense

Tonix is an inventor whose gadgets are best used on the back line for a defensive playstyle. Her L1 Skill, Ms Fizzy Turret III, is the obvious way to set up defense, as this turret keeps firing independently. In addition, her rifle allows a long-range barrage or an explosive shot if held, both of which are effective at keeping opponents away.

Her R1 skill, Mr Bouncy Bubble, is one of her key tools for keeping opponents away, as this explosive device gives chase and spreads a lot of foam when it detonates. The resulting explosion creates a mound of foam that's easy to hide behind. Her Superstar Skill, King Blaster XIII, adds to the defense as it's a giant homing mortar that pushes opponents away even more.

Screenshot by Siliconera

Jet Justice is the Best Character for Huge Damage

As the burly superhero of Foamstars, Jet Justice is the best option for anyone who favors tank characters. His standard weapon fires large projectiles in a wide spread. However, his two basic Skills can be combined to devastating effect. His R1 Skill, Jet Vacuum Sphere, can pull in opponents into a small area. He can then unleash his L1 Skill, Cosmic Dive, into that area to cause a big AoE splash.

His tank abilities are enhanced further with his Superstar Skill, which erects a shield in an area that protects him and his teammates from damage. It also has the bonus of recharging other Skills faster, providing a huge boon to the team.

Penny Gwyn is the Best Character for Sniping

Penny is a soldier who uses a range of skills to do damage from afar. She uses an assault rifle with a long range to pile on pressure from afar. Her L1 Skill, Penguin Squad, can build on this with a fast burst that can be steered if opponents try to dodge away.

Her R1 Skill, Toboggan Bomb, adds a long-distance explosive option to Penny's options too. She will send out her penguin pal to skate forwards, detonating a bomb after a short time of travel. Her Superstar Skill, Emperor March, is a bigger version of this. Both add to her attempts to take you out before you can get to her.

Rave Breaker is Best Character for Sneaky Players

Foamstars describes Rave Breaker as Trickster because he is one of the best characters for causing trouble for opponents in unexpected ways. He can create a lot of foam in one place quickly with his hose weapon, allowing him to create walls with ease. In addition, he can use this foam to mess with opponents in two different ways.

His L1 Skill, Home in the Foam, allows him to move around in the foam, hiding from opponents and pouncing when he gets close. Meanwhile, his R1 Skill, Decontamination, can catch out opponents as it's a mine that will detonate if an opponent is close. While it's visible when placed on the ground normally, it will bury itself in any team foam placed near it, waiting to trigger if an opponent walks close.

The Baristador is the Best Character for Foam Coverage

The Baristador is only available when you reach Player Level 3, but the amount of foam coverage he creates makes it clear why he needs to be earned. His hose has a wide spread and a long range, allowing him to coat the arena in his team's foam quickly.

On top of that, his R1 Skill, Bitter Drip, can instantly create a wall of foam to hide behind, while his L1 Skill, Super City Roast, spreads foam for a short time before exploding into a column. His Superstar Skill enhances this further, creating a huge AoE blast that leaves a large mound of foam behind.

Foamstars is out now for PS5.

FFVII Rebirth Directors Nomura and Hamaguchi Talk About Gilgamesh

In a recent interview with Famitsu, FFVII Rebirth co-directors Tetsuya Nomura and Naoki Hamaguchi talked about the addition of Gilgamesh to the world of Final Fantasy VII. Gilgamesh will appear as part of a side quest chain spanning throughout the entire map of the game. [Thanks, Famitsu!]

The directors said that the side quest chain is titled Ancient Matters, and Gilgamesh seems to first appear on the fourth mission. When asked about the inclusion of the character in the world of FFVII, Hamaguchi revealed that Gilgamesh was one of the many characters proposed by the co-director to be included in a questline spanning through various regions in the game.

Nomura initially thought that the inclusion of Gilgamesh in FFVII Rebirth would clash with the setting of the game, but the developer ended up making adjustments to the character and questline that would make his appearance adjust better to the tone and setting of FFVII Rebirth.

Gilgamesh made his first appearance ever in Final Fantasy V. Nomura said that he designed him as a pixel art character first, and artist Yoshitaka Amano created the illustrations of the character per Nomura's request.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will come to the PS5 on February 29, 2024, and the exclusivity arrangement ends on May 29, 2024. A free demo is now available.

Watch the Honkai Impact 3rd Senadina Deepspace Anchor: First Light Battlesuit

Three new characters will debut in Honkai Impact 3rd Part 2, and HoYoVerse shared new insight into the Senadina Deepspace Anchor: First Light battlesuit making its debut. It goes over what people can expect from the Sea of Data heroine.

The new trailer begins with Senadina at home, waiting for the Dreamseeker. When she appears, the two dash out to see the outside world. It's then that she's introduced as a "trendy" character who is "enigmatic" and has "Martian aesthetics." She's also described as being someone really lively who can help pull the new characters together. The team also mentioned she's designed to look futuristic, to tie into the sci-fi elements and as though she came from Mars.

As for gameplay, the team noted that due to the secrecy surrounding her that they didn't have much of her background when designing her. From what they did know, they decided to make her yoyo her signature weapon. The team also mentioned it took over half a year to put together the Honkai Impact 3rd Senadina Deepspace Anchor: First Light battlesuit and included a yoyo expert to consult and put on a performance to be used in the game.

How to get Quickscope kills in MW3Quickscoping is as old as Call of Duty and even probably older, honestly. It is the art of aiming down your sniper sight and killing a player in one fluid motion, essentially nailing a shot before you lock it in through the scope. Here is the best way to get quickscope kills in MW3. How to nail Quickscope kills in MW3 Practice is, as always, everything when it comes to getting Quickscope kills in MW3. However, there are a few tips and tricks you can try to make the whole process easier. The first step is to have the right sniper build. The best Quickscop sniper build in Modern Warfare 3 At the time of writing, this is the build I would opt for in MW3 for a sick Quickscope sniper. What you want to get is a sniper that has outrageously high sprint to fire speed and fast aim down sight speeds. If you prefer another build, ensure you try to max these stats.      Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 3 Warzone Bp50The BP50 is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3's newest weapon, and this bullpup assault rifle is one of the best long-range options in the entire game. It boasts exceptional accuracy and stability, and with the right attachments, it's basically a laser beam. Best BP50 Build in Modern Warfare 3 Screenshot: PC Invasion Since the BP50's strengths lie in its accuracy and fire rate, this build capitalizes on that and transforms the weapon into one of the fastest-firing long-range weapons in Modern Warfare 3 without sacrificing any stability or recoil control. Optic: Corio Eagleseye 2.5x Underbarrel: Kimura RYN-03 Vertical Grip Stock: Moat-40 Stock Comb: Reliant-IX Comb Rear Grip: Trst-IV Grip Tape With the Moat-40 Stock, the BP50 gains a boost to gun kick control plus a slight increase to ADS speed at the cost of some movement speed. The Reliant-IX Comb balances this out with a large increase to sprint-to-fire speed and another small boost to ADS ...

How to fix the MW3 App Not Released bug in SteamA new update rolls out, and with it, so do a million new bugs to contend with. If you are coming up against the message App Not Released while trying to launch MW3, there are a few things you can try to do to fix it. Remove your free trial For some reason, a remaining free trial of the game is causing a few instances of MW3 to display the App Not Released error. To delete this, follow these steps. Completely close Steam. Next, you need to open Steam as an administrator. This can be done by right-clicking the game's icon and selecting "Run as administrator." Open up the MW3 game page and locate properties on the top right. In the DLC tab, unselect the Free Trial option. Again, follow the steps for closing and reopening Steam as an administrator.      Health regen has been overhauled in WarzoneThe one thing that keeps me from playing Warzone constantly is the high level of play. Even if I have any game-changing perks, things often go south. From a distance, it seems like one needs to keep calm and be able to multitask. But for the second season of Modern Warfare 3, it seems like Sledgehammer Games is listening to the low-skilled players (AKA, me). It seems like the developers overhauled on health regen on Warzone. To find out how we got all the details below.  Warzone: Sledgehammer has completely overhauled the health regen to make life easier Since Season One, players have criticized Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone because of their controversial time-to-kill feature. It made killing players fast and resulted in both games being hard to play. Now for Season Two, things may have balanced out.  You may notice your health regenerates quicker and with more being replenished at one time. Originally, health came back 40 points per second. With the update, you can expect he...
