Alongside big names like Arma 3 and Escape From Tarkov, there's been an increasing number of challengers to the throne of the best tactical shooter sims on PC. Amid the likes of Ready or Not and the upcoming Exfil and Arena Breakout: Infinite, one of the strongest contenders looks to be Gray Zone Warfare. The new, ultra realistic FPS game has landed to a mixed reception from players on Steam, but developer Madfinger Games reports that its first month since launch has seen the game hit almost a million copies sold.
I haven't played Bloodborne and so references to its world or characters mean little to me. Kart racers, meanwhile? There I'm in my element due to a lifetime of Mario Kart, Diddy Kong Racing and Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. It's those games that make me interested in Nightmare Kart, a PSX-aesthetic racing game which was formerly known as Bloodborne Kart, and which is out now.
It feels as if every action-RPG can be described in terms of its relationship to genre daddy Diablo. Wolcen:Lords Of Mayhem, for example, launched a few months after Diablo 4 was announced and helped to satiate some early click cravings. Briefly.
Early positive sentiment was quickly scuppered by bugs, slow updates and more. Now its developers say that they're ending support for the game, and multiplayer functionality will be switched off this September.
Nekokurage, who is the illustrator for the manga version of The Apothecary Diaries, pleaded guilty for tax evasion worth 47 million JPY ($298,754). It is unknown what will happen to the manga as a result of this. [Thanks, Live Door!]
The article in question refers to Nekokurage with her real name, Erika Ikeda. She pleaded guilty to the charges and stated that she'd planned on declaring several years' worth of taxes at once. According to the prosecution, she started her work as a manga artist in 2010. That was also when her acquaintance told her that she needed to file her own tax returns. Though Ikeda knew that this was a legal obligation, she instead chose to prioritize her deadlines.
In the past, Ikeda did, in fact, declare multiple years' worth of taxes at once. Her acquaintance was not the only person getting on her case about her taxes. Ikeda's editor also urged her to declare her taxes. This is because if a problem arises as a result of this, they may risk the manga's cancellation. The author for The Apothecary Diaries (Natsu Hyuga) also told Ikeda (Nekokurage) that she should speak to an accountant. Though Ikeda made about 260 million JPY (about $1.7 million) between 2019 and 2022, she didn't declare her income in time and thus evaded 47 million JPY's worth of taxes.
Ikeda posted an apology on her Twitter (X) account. She accepts full responsibility for her past ignorance, as well as stated that she's now paid off all the taxes and fees she owes. At the end, she says that this is all her personal problem. It has nothing to do with the people working on the manga version of The Apothecary Diaries or Natsu Hyuga.
As the case is still ongoing, there's no information on what will happen to the The Apothecary Diaries manga, nor is there information on what Ikeda's punishment will be.
In the Handyman Saitou in Another World manga, it can often seem like Saitou and Raelza get the most "screen" time, but the fourth volume switches the spotlight to Morlock and Lafanpan. We get much more insight into both characters, which feels quite refreshing. After all, Morlock's forgetfulness sometimes makes him feel like a gag character, while Lafanpan sometimes ends up overshadowed by stronger personalities.

Much of the previous volume involved Saitou, Raelza, and Lafanpan's quest to help restore Morlock. Due to circumstances, he was caught in a place between life and death. On top of that, a Demon Lord that seems to withstand anything the party threw at it is ahead of them. Because of a gift of power from a demon dog, designed to help protect its child, we get to see Morlock in his prime. His own power and the demon dog's combine to grant him this enhanced power and vitality. So much so that his youth is restored, as well as his memory.
It's an incredible combination. Especially since Handyman Saitou in Another World manga volumes leading up to this have been building up the lore around him. By this point in the series, we're aware of exactly what Morlock might have been capable of in his prime. Now, we're actually getting to see it. It's quite a sight.
However, it's not just about seeing Morlock at his most powerful in Handyman Saitou in Another World. The moments here, when the group is facing a desperate situation, means we're also seeing him at his best in terms of morality and devotion. Morlock is at his most human and best. We see his love for Raelza, his adopted daughter, and the trust he has for Saitou. We see the consideration for the group and the lengths he's willing to go to in order to protect them. Then there's the sacrifice he's willing to make for the sake of others. It shows the depth he's always had.
As for Lafanpan, her moment in the Handyman Saitou in Another World manga really gives her a chance to relax. We get to enjoy her company, while she enjoys Saitou's. Given her curse that sees her shrink if she isn't constantly earning and offering gold, to see her free of concerns for a bit is a joy. It's like she deserves that chance to have fun and relax. Plus, it also means we get to see more of Saitou's genuine and kind personality, which is always a plus.
Even though much of Handyman Saitou in Another World volume 4 is dedicated to finishing up a storyline from the previous entry in the manga series, it also means a chance to really connect with Morlock and Lafanpan in new ways. It's appreciated, given how sometimes these two members of the party might be overlooked or more often seen as comic relief.
Volume 4 of Handyman Saitou in Another World is available now, and Yen Press will release the fifth volume of the manga on August 20, 2024. The anime is streaming on Crunchyroll.
Love Live School Idol Festival 2 Miracle Live service ended. However, you can still look at your albums and titles if you managed to unlock the local offline function prior.
In order to access the local offline function, you need to have saved your data using version 1.3.0 before the early hours of May 31, 2024 (in Japan). Afterwards, once the game shut down, you can launch the 1.3.0 app to look at all your saved data. Saved data includes titles and albums of characters. It serves as an archive and you cannot do anything more than look at what you collected during your time with the game. As a note, if you delete the app, you will lose all your saved data since the uninstallation process deletes them. You cannot get anything back even if you reinstall from the app store history.
Bushiroad announced that the global version of Love Live School Idol Festival 2 Miracle Live would come out in February 2024. However, in the exact same announcement, it also said that the game would shut down on May 31, 2024. While Bushiroad has never explained the reasoning behind such a short global service life, it may be due to some behind-the-scenes contract issues.

I'm always on the lookout for incredible roguelikes, and Go Mecha Ball started this year with a bang. You bounce around the levels in this fast-paced twin-stick shooter, flawlessly swapping between pinball and mech forms in some of the smoothest controls the genre has on offer. Drenched in bright neon and filled with banging tunes, you hit enemies, walls, and boost pads before quickly popping off shots and racing around the stage again. The Steam and Game Pass release was already a lot of fun, and now an update and sale make it the perfect time to dive in.
The Terraria 1.4.5 update looks better every time we get another glimpse of it. Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead has addressed the lack of communication over the next, delayed patch. The update is now expected sometime in the second week of June, as the team aims for a "higher quality standard" that also leaves room for communication with the playerbase. A hotfix has been rolled out for the newest Major Order, however, so you shouldn't be overrun by bugs while trying to read the below communication.

There's a new way to play Wildermyth, provided people are willing to pay to pick up the $9.99 Omenroad DLC. The new add-on brings with it an additional storyline with a new mode that changes how you proceed through strategic battles with your party. From what I experienced, it can streamline and speed things up. Even so, it doesn't change what makes Wildermythwhat it is in the process.
Typically in a Wildermyth campaign, you move around a map to recruit characters, free areas, get resources, and prepare for boss fights at the end of certain events. Along the way, you head into turn-based, strategic battle with your custom heroes. These people can grow and develop based on choices you make in story segments.

When you pick up Omenroad, you can go through the new A Walk in the Unlight campaign or take on a Challenge (standard with new heroes or Legacy with existing ones). Regardless of which one you choose, the world map in the original mode is absent. Instead, you see a grid of branching nodes. Picking one sets you down paths, which can in turn allow you to face battles and get the specific rewards present there. While A Walk in the Unlight still retains the story-based events within, both Challenge and Legacy Challenge sacrifice those elements for a more straightforward gauntlet run to the end. Rather than "chapters," you'll also go through "pages" that mark different eras.
Essentially, the Omenroad DLC blends optional roguelike elements into Wildermyth, and it works far better than I ever expected it to. The new pages with their paths lend themselves well to the sort of structure we experience in the original game. Should you go with one of the Challenge options, I found it can feel like a much shorter experience as you go immediately from one fight to the next until you reach the bosses at the ends of pages. That some rewards have timers and can disappear after a certain number of turns and each node notes its difficulty can allow you the option to make things more difficult for itself. Also, I appreciated that even in both the Challenge options your characters can develop relationships like they would in the main game or A Walk in the Unlight campaign.

It can feel like an Worldwalker Games consolidated and distilled Wildermyth down to what makes the game unique for Omenroad. It adjusted the structure in such a way that it feels like a roguelike too. However, it never loses its identity in the process. The storytelling isn't sacrificed in A Walk in the Unlight. The difficulty isn't put aside in a Challenge.
The thing is that Wildermyth is and remains a fantastic game, and Omenroad is this exceptional complement that helps tweak the way someone might play it. Traditionally, I tended to play it as a social strategy game. When I went into the add-on, I was doing so solo. It still is a complex, meaningful experience. The structure just changes a bit to make things work a bit differently. When it does, it could mean you go through a different paced adventure that prioritizes challenges over stories.
Wildermyth and its Omenroad DLC are available for the PC now.

In the first volume of the Lord Hades's Ruthless Marriage manga, it feels like the focus is entirely on the more comedic elements instead of telling a romantic story about gods falling in love. However, once the second installment appears, Uei Yuho starts gradually implementing subtle elements that suggest that yes, there will eventually be an actual marriage.

As a refresher, in the first volume Eros' arrow hit Hades in the forehead. Everyone (other than Hades) was happy about this, because they were concerned about him being alone and hoped he'd find someone who could be his partner. Right around that same time, following being hit, he saw Kore. She's the goddess of spring who ended up in the underworld for… reasons… and seems very invested in the idea of him finding someone too. However, while the arrow disappeared and she was the first person he saw after, it seems he didn't develop any feelings.
As with the first volume of the manga, the volume 2 of Lord Hades's Ruthless Marriage still involves various deities getting involved in Hades' business and attempting to find him a spouse. Hestia, Artemis, Sphinx, and Nephele all show up, for example. So the series maintains its "monster of the week" style format, only with Grecian gods. It's still silly, though Hades himself gets some rather poignant lines and insights from time-to-time.

However, what I really appreciated with volume 2 of the Lord Hades's Ruthless Marriage manga is the slow burn that is the developing love story between Hades and Kore. There are times when we saw the two characters have moments in the first entry. However, here there are even more moments on both characters' sides. When Apollo and Artemis appear, there are minor hints at Hades being protective and Kore sheltering or looking to him for support. When he is going to a temple for equipment, he doesn't continue his search because Kore's flowers are there. When Hades is on an apparent date, Kore ends up stalking the two of them to discover what's going on.
Everything is happening in a subtle way. Since this is otherwise such a comedic series, it really makes these moments between Hades and Kore stand out. As such, even though these are occasional hallmarks of a traditional love story, they develop in the background of the manga so you sometimes only catch certain artistic decisions if you really pay attention. Meanwhile, when a more overt conversation suggesting a deeper relationship comes up, it's even more appreciated.
It does make me wonder how the next volume of the Lord Hades's Ruthless Marriage manga will handle the developing love story between the gods. Especially considering the tone of the tale so far. Given how many gods are introduced, it's quite possible they could end up getting just as involved. But it'd also be great to spend more time on the build up so we can really enjoy what's happening in Hades' life.

Hololive VTuber Inugami Korone has shared on her X (Twitter) account the boss character she designed for Lords of Exile. Many of her fans have expressed happiness that they guessed right due to the monster having many design aesthetics Korone likes.
Korone revealed the monster in a QRT of her original Tweet from February 2024, when she announced that Lords of Exile is available to purchase. She revealed that she'd secretly backed this game's Kickstarter and that she also designed one of the bosses in it. Korone then ended the Tweet, inviting players to guess which one she had made. On May 31, 2024, she acknowledged that she was late with the reveal and then showed the correct answer.
Lords of Exile is a retro-looking game that uses an 8-bit aesthetic and a linear-level design. It's an action and platforming game in which you play as a cursed knight who seeks revenge. There are eight levels in total, with various items and skills you can obtain in order to make your journey easier. Korone tends to play retro games on stream, so her backing of Lords of Exile on its Kickstarter may not have been a surprise.
Lords of Exile is available on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch, and Windows PC via Steam.

Koyasu Takehito is Peacemaker's voice actor in the Japanese version of the show. He is a famous and prominent voice actor who debuted in 1987. Since then, he's played many well-known characters such as Dio Brando/DIO in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Snufkin in Moomin, Toji in Jujutsu Kaisen, Milliardo/Zechs in Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, Ozymandias in Fate/Grand Order, and Eddie/Zato-1 in Guilty Gear. This is only a small sample of Koyasu's colorful career.
Meanwhile, Peacemaker has become a somewhat more familiar character from the DC universe thanks to the Peacemaker show and his appearance in The Suicide Squad. The character debuted in 1966, and it's likely that the Suicide Squad Isekai anime will use the Christopher Smith incarnation of Peacemaker. This is due to this version of Peacemaker's affiliation with the Suicide Squad. Peacemaker is a very good fighter, assassin, spy, and marksman.
Suicide Squad Isekai will start airing in July 2024.
Takeo Otsuka, a Japanese voice actor, has announced his marriage on his Twitter (X) account. He has not given any details about the person he married.
In a short message to everyone, Otsuka states that he's gotten married to someone he's been dating for a while. He did not give any information on his new spouse, such as how long they've been dating or what their job is. He further explains that he's aware that he still has a very long way to go, but he wants to continue to work hard and remind himself to be grateful for everything in his life.
At the end of the message, Otsuka hopes for everyone's continued support. People in the comments, including fellow voice actors like Shinnosuke Tachibana and Yuuto Uemura, have offered their congratulations. Takeo Otsuka is one of the newer generation of voice actors. He started voice acting in 2016 and was the main character, Kakeru, in Run with the Wind.
However, he didn't achieve major fame or success among the general anime community until his appearance as Aquamarine Hoshino in Oshi no Ko. Aside from Aqua, he also voices Jinshi in The Apothecary Diaries, Sunday in Honkai: Star Rail, and Eishin Mayumi in The Idolm@ster SideM Growing Stars.

Cosume has opened up pre-orders for cosplay outfits for the Survey Corps from Attack on Titan. The collection includes Eren Yeager's outfit (complete with the shirt underneath) and Levi Ackerman's attire (with the cravat and dress shirt). [Thanks, PR Times!]
The costumes will come out in late November 2024. Each one costs 26,400 JPY ($167.85), and they come with almost everything you need in terms of the outfit. If you want to accurately cosplay as Eren or Levi from Attack on Titan, you'll need to purchase wigs and boots separately.
The official sources for the series have supervised the design process. The wings of freedom that symbolize the Survey Corps look a little scuffed. This is to represent the hard work that people of the Survey Corps do when they go outside the walls. Eren's shirt is made of comfortable material that doesn't wrinkle easily. Meanwhile, the scarf for Levi's outfit is detachable. So even if you're not sure how to tie it up, you can wear it.
Attack on Titan was a popular anime and manga series that started serialization in 2009. The anime for it came out in 2013. It is one of the best-selling manga series of all time, as well as won multiple awards such as the Kodansha Manga Award and the Harvey Award. It focuses on a timeline in which the final humans in the world live inside walled cities to avoid the threat of the giant people-eating Titans outside. After losing his mother to one, Eren vows to become a member of the Survey Corps, who go outside of the walls to investigate the Titans and thus provide the most opportunities to kill them.
The Attack on Titan cosplay outfits will come out in late November 2024.
The Resident Evil X (Twitter) account has shared some artwork of Yoshihiro Togashi's take on Jill and Nemesis in an old Resident Evil 3 official guidebook. This was in response to Togashi sharing art on the first Resident Evil game.
On May 27, 2024, Togashi uploaded a picture he did of the main characters from Resident Evil. From left to right, we can see Jill, Chris, Barry, and Rebecca. There's also a zombie in the background. In response, the Resident Evil Twitter account QRT-ed Togashi with a picture that he did in the Resident Evil 3 guidebook.
In the picture, he celebrates Jill's return. Underneath it, he jokes that two options might not be enough to change a fate (as a reference to how Resident Evil 3: Nemesis had different endings depending on your choices). In the Nemesis speech bubble, Togashi had Nemesis say that he was happy to see a familiar face since he liked the first game more than the second.
He also added that he can't help but chase after her because of her mini-skirt. On the side of it, Togashi comments on how the dodge mechanic could be very effective depending on how you use it. He wonders if it's possible to clear the game without using too many bullets, thanks to dodge.
Finally, in the bubble next to Jill, Togashi reminds players to take a good look at the Game Over screen without resetting immediately. This is because Jill might be using the last moments of her life to give "fanservice," with her miniskirt being a hint as to what Togashi means. He then calls himself terrible in the corner of the speech bubble.
