I never played the original Elona so when I look at its sequel, Elin, there are two things that jump immediately to mind. The first is Project Zomboid, despite the lack of oppressive waves of the walking dead, and the other is Tibia, a classic MMO. Elin offers a similar in-depth permadeath experience such as that found in the former, while giving you the kind of huge, chaotic world to live in and explore as in the latter. Speaking as somebody who would quite like there to be more Alan Wake games - or at least, moderately weird and pretty decent blockbuster singleplayer horror games - I am both pleased by this news and a little troubled that Remedy's eldritch forest fable (which came out in October 2023) has yet to break even.

Interview: Preparing the Romancing SaGa 2 Remake

Preparing a new version of an older game can be quite a challenge. Especially when it is going from a 2D Super Famicom release to systems like the Switch, PS4, and PS5. That's what happened with Square Enix and the Romancing Saga 2: Revenge of the Seven remake, which is available now worldwide. To learn more about how it came to be and its development, Siliconera spoke with Producer Shinichi Tatsuke about the new SaGa game.

Jenni Lada: Romancing SaGa 2 appeared in many forms, complete with an expanded and updated version for mobile devices and consoles that eventually appeared worldwide. How did that version and remaster influence the 3D remake's development?

Shinichi Tatsuke:  Although the underlying goals of the remaster and this remake are different, we did keep some elements from the remaster, such as the Ninja and Diviner classes. We also kept a portion of events which were original to the remaster and the hidden boss that becomes available after beating the game.

Romancing SaGa 2 involved a number of revolutionary gameplay elements, such as the empire funding elements, the picking of heirs, and making former heroes the villains. What types of design decisions did you make with the remake to ensure certain elements were expanded upon and preserved?

Tatsuke: The general direction we took was to preserve elements that were characteristic of the SaGa franchise, such as the world, story, as well as the Inheritance System, Glimmers,

and Formation system, while modernizing the battle and character growth systems. By doing so, I believe we were able to preserve the appeal of SaGa titles, while ensuring the experience didn't feel out-of-place as a modern RPG.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRWoyq8bozU&t=1s&ab_channel=SquareEnix

What sorts of balancing and adjustments did you make to make all the difficulty options and character growth systems added for this Romancing SaGa 2 remake feel fair and fulfilling? Is there any particular technique and approach you really enjoyed working on and recommend people pursue for a character build?

Tatsuke: We included difficulty options in this remake because we wanted not only fans of the original, but also a wide range of new users to also play the game. With the Hard (Classic) difficulty setting, we fine-tuned battles to be as neck-and-neck with players as much as possible, as we wanted to give them a taste of the compelling battles featured in the original game. With Normal difficulty, we adjusted the game so players accustomed to standard RPGs can have an enjoyable experience. With Casual difficulty, we adjusted the game for those unfamiliar with the SaGa franchise, or for those who wish to focus on the story.

Romancing SaGa 2 features a massive amount of choices, with things changing depending on the order you approach the Seven Heroes or certain situations changing depending on how you deal with problems. How did you tackle these scenarios and options in the remake and did you find yourself adjusting or building on any of them from the original game?

Tatsuke: In general, the story and choices presented to the player follows the original game. However, we've improved parts of the original game that were slightly unreasonable, as well as some irreversible elements, such as the feature that strengthened enemies corresponding to your number of battles.

When designing the 3D versions of the Seven Heroes, how influential were the original Romancing SaGa 2 sprites and artwork when working on their new designs for the remake? Which characters do you think most benefited from the extra attention possible with the new models?

Tatsuke: We referenced the original 2D pixel art and illustrations created by Tomomi Kobayashi while developing this game, so they were both quite influential on the 3D designs. The Seven Heroes even strike the same poses as their original pixel artwork in the cutscenes that play when you battle them. Rocbouquet looks charming now, so I believe she benefited the most among the characters.

Romancing Saga 2: Revenge of the Seven is available for the Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, and PC.

Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom Zero logo

Sunrise announced that it has confirmed the production of Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom Zero. This new title will act as a prequel to Gundam SEED Freedom, so its story will take place between the 2004 TV show Gundam SEED Destiny and the 2024 movie. The studio made the reveal at the end of the second version of Gundam SEED Freedom's newer screening that launched in Japanese theaters on November 1, 2024.

The series' director Mitsuo Fukuda provided more details about Gundam SEED Freedom Zero during a presentation at Grand Cinema Sunshine Ikebukuro in Tokyo, Japan. He noted that the prequel would not be greenlit unless the initial movie became a successful hit. However, the Gundam SEED Freedom movie did end up being a great success with a new franchise-high Japanese box office revenue of over 5 billion yen (~$32.7 million) and more than 3 million tickets sold.

Fukuda also added that the whole scenario for Zero was already completed 20 years ago in 2004, and the earliest storyboards for it had appeared even before his team worked on SEED Freedom. Sunrise originally planned to release Zero as an OVA (Original Video Animation) in 2004, but it has yet to confirm the format for this newly greenlit anime project.

Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom Zero is under production. Sunrise will reveal more details about the title—including its format, platforms, and release window—at a later time.

Cover Corporation announced that it started developing a virtual live performance project using Unreal Engine that is tied to Hololive Production and its Vtubers. The company also opened a new job listing for programming engineers who are well-versed with Epic Games' engine.

Next New Zenless Zone Zero Character Is Asaba Harumasa

HoYoVerse started teasing a new Zenless Zone Zero character, and it seems we'll see the Agent Asaba Harumasa join the game in 1.4. There's a trailer that teases what his English voice acting will sound like and the company shared some infographics about him. These are accompanied by a new trailer for Tsukishiro Yanagi, who is also a part of the same Hollow Special Operations Section 6 faction as Asaba.

First, here's the YouTube short for Asaba. It also featured some icons showing what we can expect from him as a playable Agent in Zenless Zone Zero. He's an Attack type character, which means he's focused on DPS. His element is also shown to be Electric, which means he can eventually cause Shock with his attacks. We don't know his rank yet, so it is unknown if he will be S-rank like Tsukishiro or A-rank like Soukaku. He's also shown wielding a bow, which would make him one of the few ranged attackers in the game like Billy Kid.

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/GhN5idlsfKI

Here are the infographics going over Asaba Harumasa, which are designed to provide more insight into the personality of the new Zenless Zone Zero character. He's described as a genius and strong, but also as someone who doesn't work overtime and sometimes slacks off.

https://twitter.com/ZZZ_EN/status/1852198996909158783

We'll see his coworker Tsukishiro join Zenless Zone Zero in 1.3. Her latest trailer is a character demo that mostly covers what her life is like at Section 6. The end features a cameo from Asaba and other members of the department.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UcjFp9_0flo

Zenless Zone Zero is available for the PS5, PC, and mobile devices, and the release date for the 1.3 update is November 6, 2024.

Cup Noodle Controller Has a Shrimp Button

Cup Noodle shared an image of a game controller with a "shrimp" button in place of the A and B buttons. While not a real controller you can pick up and use, the controller is modeled after the Super Nintendo or Super Famicom controller.

The controller features the Cup Noodle logo between the D-pad and the Shrimp button, and the letters A and B can be seen above the shrimp itself. The pun behind this absurdist controller lies in the Japanese pronunciation of the letters A and B together and "ebi," the Japanese word for shrimp, being very similar.

You can check out the Cup Noodle controller with its shrimp button here:

https://twitter.com/cupnoodle_jp/status/1852183787326836790

Cup Noodle has been recently sharing plenty of video game related jokes through the company's X (formerly Twitter) official account. The most recent one involves a new flavor of Tonkotsu Genova basil ramen noodles that references a line from the FFVII Advent Children movie due to the similarities between the noodles and the name Jenova.

The reason for the various video game jokes feature in the Cup Noodle social media account is due to the recent "Cup Noodle Quest 2" campaign that the company is holding that offers a variety of Cup Noodle related merchandise goods. The campaign started on October 2024 and will be available until the end of January 2025.

FFXIV Flibustier Paris Bracelets Based on Each Grand Company

Square Enix announced pre-orders are open for a Grand Company collection of FFXIV Flibustier Paris bracelets during the Letter from the Producer Live 84. The jewelry is expected to start shipping on December 1, 2024, and the official storefront is selling The Immortal Flames, The Maelstrom, and The Order of the Twin Adder designs.

Each FFXIV Flibustier Paris Grand Company bracelet features a 925 silver insignia for the group as its focal point. It is 18.8grams and an 8mm design. Each bracelet has different semiprecious stone beads surrounding it. So the Immortal Flames bracelet features tiger's eye and white pyrite stones. The Maelstrom one has golden obsidian and red jade. The Order of the Twin Adder is the only one with three types of other stones on it, as Bronzite, Citrine, and Seraphinite beads appear.

The price for the bracelets vary based on size ordered. All of them use a stretchy silicone thread and don't feature a clasp. The small (15cm), medium (17cm), large (19cm), and extra large (21cm) options are $245 each. If someone needs a custom size that is larger or smaller than the ones mentioned, then the price goes up to $280.

Here's how all three of the items look, as well as the slide from the Letter from the Producer Live 84 that revealed them.

Other types of merchandise revealed during this latest showcase include Schwarzkopf Live hair dye and LOGOS camping equipment

Final Fantasy XIV and Dawntrail are available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and PC. The 7.1 patch will launch on November 12, 2024. Pre-orders for the FFXIV Grand Company Flibustier Paris bracelets are live ahead of the jewelry's December 1, 2024 debut.

Tamagotchi Chogokin Robot transformable action figure

Bandai Spirits opened global pre-orders for a new Chogokin Tamagotchi Robo action figure. This crossover robot action figure will also come with an Original Tamagotchi that is also actually playable. The price for this set will be 9,900 yen (~$64.85).

The owner will be able to attach or detach the Tamagotchi from the die-cast robot figure. In addition, they can also configure the robot to have it transform into a UFO. The figure's UFO mode will also have wheels set up to let the owner move it on the floor.

But while Chogokin (Super Alloy) figures are known for using die-cast metal, that will only apply to the robot figure. The actual Tamagotchi in the set will only come with a gold plating to emulate the alloy metal feel.

Bandai Spirits has also uploaded a new trailer featuring the crossover action figure on its YouTube channel:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P5FoY9W3-20

This product will specifically appear to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Chogokin die-cast figures, which appeared first in 1974. While Tamagotchi also had a 20th anniversary celebration in 2024, that was intended for the Tamagotchi Connection lineup that Bandai launched in 2004. The original Tamagotchi launched in late 1996, so it will have its 30th anniversary in 2026.

The Chogokin Tamagotchi Robo action figure set will be available worldwide in May 2025.

Pre-orders are about to open for a new line of LOGOS Outing Equipment camping gear with FFXIV designs on the merchandise.

During the FFXIV Letter from the Producer Live 84 showcase, Director and Producer Naoki Yoshida and Global Community Producer Toshio Murouchi announced that LOGOS Outing Equipment is making a FFXIV Outdoor Gear collection for camping. A release date wasn't mentioned. However, pre-orders will open on November 15, 2024.

The first photo of the collection teased some of the items that seem to be a part of the LOGOS Outing Equipment FFXIV camping gear. There is a tent, of course, as well as two different types of chairs and a table. A wagon appears at the back, and there are also some bags with the official art on them. The logo for the event features Alpha the Chocobo and a Moogle above a red banner that reads, "Final Fantasy XIV."

Here's the announcement slide from the showcase that shared the first details about the FFXIV merchandise:

Holocure update in November 2024 will add Hololive JP Gen 3 and 4 Vtubers

Kay Yu released a new teaser trailer for an upcoming update for HoloCure: Save the Fans! The Version 0.7 update will appear on November 15, 2024, and it will add the Japanese Hololive Generation 3 and 4 Vtubers to the game's playable character roster.

This update will basically add all Vtubers from the generational groups who are still active as of early November 2024. They are Usada Pekora, Houshou Marine, Shirogane Noel, and Shiranui Flare from Generation 3. The Generation 4 Vtubers Amane Kanata, Himemori Luna, Tokoyami Towa, and Tsunomaki Watame will appear too.

The 0.7 update will most notably include the former fourth-generation member Kiryu Coco, who graduated in July 2021. However, it will not feature Uruha Rushia, who was originally part of the third generation, but got dishonorably discharged with a contract termination in February 2022. This update will therefore add nine new playable characters in total.

The teaser trailer for the version 0.7 update of HoloCure is also available to view on the game's official YouTube channel:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qa-fOwDHN6g

Kay Yu initially released HoloCure on itch.io with Hololive English members in mid-2022. Subsequent updates gradually added more Hololive Vtubers from the Japanese and Indonesian branches. The developer eventually got into direct contact with Cover, which also led to the game moving to Steam with the version 0.6 update in 2023.

HoloCure - Save the Fans! is available for free on PC via Steam. The Version 0.7 update for HoloCure will arrive on November 15, 2024.

Square Enix revealed there will be FFXIV Schwarzkopf Live hair dye, with the teaser image showing three different varieties.

At the end of Final Fantasy XIV Letter from the Producer Live showcases, Director and Producer Naoki Yoshida and Global Community Producer Toshio Murouchi tend to talk about upcoming products and events. The 84th installment is no different. One of the highlighted items will be a FFXIV Schwarzkopf Live hair dye collaboration.

Details about this upcoming collection are slim at the moment. The FFXIV Schwarzkopf Live hair dye announcement noted that the colors will be based on ones seen and used in the MMORPG. The initial box art teasers showed Dark Red, Dusty Rose, and Vivid Green variants. Each one featured a model with a hairstyle and dye color that matched a FFXIV Warrior of Light also featured on the box. All three are part of the Ultra Brights selection. The boxes shown also noted these would be semi-permanent options that would last up to 15 washes.

Here's the teaser art from the presentation:

The Schwarzkopf Live line of hair dye is already available in multiple countries worldwide. For example, both the Amazon US and Amazon UK sites both sell it. None of the colors mentioned in the art during the Letter from the Producer Live appear on the official website for the hair dye, so it seems these could be original colors instead of existing ones being released in FFXIV packaging.

Final Fantasy XIV and Dawntrail are available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and PC, and the 7.1 patch launches on November 12, 2024. The FFXIV Schwarzkopf Live hair dye is in development.

Meanwhile, the mobile game will rerun its FFXIV event. The MMORPG's event will run in December 2024.
