Riot's 2XKO had the option not to be in the League of Legends universe

When Radiant Entertainment was acquired by Riot Games all those years ago and tasked with making a fighting game, I would've expected the League of Legends creator to have immediately established that it must be set in the universe of Runeterra. Well, I thought wrong. It turns out that Radiant had the opportunity to create whatever kind of fighting game it wanted with its upcoming 2XKO, and that includes having the freedom to set it in a brand new universe. However, Radiant co-founders, twin brothers, and fighting game legends Tom and Tony Cannon have revealed that despite Riot not forcing them down the path to Runeterra, it was an easy decision for them to make.

The greatest AMD Radeon GPU for years has apparently just been killed off

The writing is reportedly on the wall for the finest GPU of AMD's last three generations, as our favorite current Radeon GPU has apparently reached the end of its life. Originally a China exclusive, but later released to the rest of the world, the AMD Radeon RX 7900 GRE brought a cutdown version of the company's flagship Navi 31 GPU to the mid-range GPU market, with a surprisingly low price for the power on offer.

Indeed, we gave this card a score of 9/10 in our Radeon RX 7900 GRE review, with AMD seemingly giving away some of its best tech for the same price as an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070. It might not have had the benefits of the Nvidia DLSS ecosystem backing it up, but you couldn't beat this AMD GPU's brute force power at its $550 price.

This colossal SSD can hold over 380 copies of Stalker 2, and it's fast too

If you were feeling smugly content after upgrading to a 2TB gaming SSD, then prepare to feel humiliated, as SK Hynix has just announced a new PCIe 5.0 SSD with a whopping 61TB capacity. Not only that, but the firm intends to double that space to 122TB next year, with a massive 244TB version also in the works. To put that figure in context, 61TB is enough space to store a massive 160GB game, such as Stalker 2, over 380 times.

Of course, these massive drives aren't intended to rival the best gaming SSD options you can buy right now but are instead designed for data centers. However, what starts in the data center often filters down to PC gaming hardware, and the latest tech clearly makes it possible to manufacture SSDs with an astronomical amount of storage space.

They say hope is the first step on the road to disappointment, and reader, I've made a pretty damn big step. Previously, on my mission to survive S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl with only wild mutants as my weapons, I'd discovered clues that someone else was attempting to tame the Zone's beastly inhabitants. With one of their electronic tracking collars in hand and absolutely no preexisting knowledge of their location, I set out to find this kindred spirit, only for the Zone to once again slam a door in my face.

A cold, steel, very literal door to boot. It turns out that the scientist's laboratory is locked up tight, and will remain so until I delve about twenty hours deeper into the faction war that's bubbled up while I've been running around throwing irradiated rats at people in tracksuits. Fine. Fine! But I'm keeping the collar.

Check Your Nintendo Switch Games Year in Review 2024

Nintendo announced it is time for us to all check and see what we played on our Switch systems, as the 2024 Year in Review is live. The official site is open with insights, and logging in allows you to check and see what you did throughout the year.

After you check in, the overview begins with your first game of the year. It'll note, "You kicked off 2024 with," then show a title and note the day you played it. So say if someone got on a Terraria kick, it would show images from the game and a January 1, 2024 date under that.

From there, it will tell you how many games you played, as well as how many hours total you averaged. Icons for the titles will automatically scroll above and below that information. Your three most-played Switch games of 2024 will appear in the Nintendo Year in Review section after that. In each case, you'll see the game and how many hours spent in it. Your gaming style will be described after, with one top one noted, then about six others listed below that with percentages. You'll also find the month you spent the most hours playing games, and see a full breakdown of the year after that.

Things close out with opportunities to share. You can select your favorite game from a list of ones you played. You also get three images you can share showing your data from the year. The options let you share your busiest month, your favorite game, or your top three most played games and general stats.

Nintendo isn't the only company to offer a gaming Year in Review 2024 site. Sony did so too. The PlayStation Wrap-Up site went live last week. It offered the same sorts of information and insights. That only focused on PS4 and PS5 games. At the end, you could get a code for an avatar.

The Nintendo Switch Year in Review 2024 site is live now.

Mito appears in Sword Art Online SAO Variant Showdown re-launch

Bandai Namco has formally re-launched Sword Art Online: Variant Showdown. The mobile game has become available again after less than a week has passed since the company teased its return.

The company originally launched Variant Showdown on November 22, 2022. However, it temporarily took down the game for a lengthy maintenance that started on September 28, 2023. It thus took one year and almost three months for the mobile game to resurface. As a side note, Bandai Namco listed December 17, 2024 as the mobile game's new release date on the press release. It remains to be seen which release date the company will use to stage upcoming anniversary events.

Bandai Namco is also holding numerous campaigns to mark the re-launch of Variant Showdown, most of which reward free gacha tickets. One of them is a campaign to thank players who still retain their accounts by either retaining the game app or registering a carryover link. The company has also launched a new gacha banner that features Mito, one of the two new playable characters teased in the earlier re-release announcement, with Agil also set to follow suit later on. Mito's gacha banner will run until January 6, 2025.

Sword Art Online: Variant Showdown is now available again on Android and iOS mobile devices worldwide.

Pokemon GO Getting Sprigatito Community Day in January

The Pokemon Company International and Niantic teased the January 2025 Community Day star for Pokemon GO, and it is going to be Sprigatito. It shared a brief video on social media that featured the character and its cry.

The Pokemon GO Sprigatito Community Day video begins with a field of flowers like the ones we'd see in Paldea in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. At the four second mark, we hear the character's cry. It's then that distinctive ears pop up. The video closes out with the Community Day logo, hinting that it will be the focal point of the event when 2025 begins.

Here's the full teaser from the official social media account. That also included the hashtag for the Community Days.

https://twitter.com/PokemonGoApp/status/1869382337911230676

Sprigatito joined the game alongside fellow starters from that entry Fuecoco and Quaxly back in September 2023. This will mark the first time one of the three has been a Community Day star.

The next Pokemon GO Community Day will be held between December 21-22, 2024. Each day, it will run between 2pm and 5pm local time for us. On December 21, 2024, the featured Pokemon will be Bellsprout, Bounsweet, Chansey, Goomy, Litten, and Rowlet. On December 22, 2024, we'll frequently see Galarian Ponyta and Ponyta, Mankey, Popplio, Sewaddle, and Tynamo.

We've seen a number of big additions to Pokemon GO in 2024. Literally, in fact. Dynamax Pokemon were added in September 2024. We've since seen special events with them, such as Dynamax Charmander back in November 2024.

Pokemon GO is available on Android and iOS devices, and the January 2025 Community Day character will be Sprigatito.

Death Note Killer Within Patch Fixes Disconnection and Quitting Issues

A major problem in Death Note Killer Within at launch was the disconnection issues, as a match in the game would end for everyone if one player quit or disconnected, but a new patch addresses and fixes that issue. Bandai Namco released the update on December 18, 2024. It also noted it will take action against people purposely quitting with the intent of ruining the match. In 2025, a new role and paid customization options will appear.

The big change is that a Death Note Killer Within match will continue if a player or players who aren't L, Kira, or the Kira Follower Misa experiences a disconnection or would quit the game. This is because those three roles are critical to gameplay in various ways, while L's investigators are more plentiful. So a round can continue if one or a few are missing. If one of those players is gone, their avatar will be absent, they'll be counted among the inactive or dead players, their votes won't be counted, and the L player can't take their items.

As for how people who purposely disconnect in Death Note Killer Within, the company confirmed that both warnings and bans are on the table. It will be looking at reports and players to determine if and when it would be needed.

Aside from this possible fix, new content will debut in 2025. Bandai Namco shared silhouettes of the items. It noted new Premium Avatars and a new Customization Track will appear, which means new ways to look in-game. However, a new Role will also show up. The character shown's silhouette almost looks like that of Mello's, one of L's potential successors that also hunts down Kira.

Meet Mavuika in 5.3 Genshin Impact Special Program This Week

We have a date and time for the 5.3 Genshin Impact Special Program livestream and introduction to playable Mavuika. HoYoVerse announced it will air on December 20, 2024. It will air at 5am PT/8am ET. As usual, we'll be able to catch it on Twitch and YouTube.

As we already know, 5.3 is when Mavuika, Citlali, and Lan Yan will be playable in Genshin Impact, so this Special Program will be when we get to learn about their movesets. The initial teasers only showed their official art, confirmed their elements, and named their constellations.

We also know we'll learn about other staples during this Genshin Impact livestream. There will be hints about the continuing storyline and Archon Quests. New events and equipment will come up. There will also be codes for Primogems and in-game items.

This means there's only a little more time to get Neuvillette and Zhongli again in Genshin Impact. The rerun banners for both units appeared on December 11, 2024. It also marked the first opportunity for Xbox players to get them. Both are popular characters who, if you follow the meta, are quite popular and valued. Neuvillette is for his role as a primary DPS, while we use Zhongli as a supporter for his shields and ability to more easily reach places via the spires he can summon.

Genshin Impact is available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, PC, and mobile devices, and the Special Program livestream for 5.3 will air at 5am PT/8am ET on December 20, 2024. The launch date for the update is expected to be January 1, 2025.

Suikoden 1 HD Remaster Opening Gameplay Shared

Konami offered another look at the Suikoden 1 HD Remaster that is part of the upcoming compilation in a new gameplay trailer on social media, and it features that moment when hero Tir McDohl talks with Ted, and then later his father and other allies. The footage allows us to see the new character portraits, as well as how the environments and character sprites look in this version of the game.

This Suikoden 1 HD Remaster gameplay video begins almost at the outset of the adventure. Tir arrived home and is quickly met by his best friend Ted. He asks that the hero tells him all about meeting the , Scarlet Moon Empire Emperor Barbarossa Rugner, the empire's mage Windy, and joins the party. The two then head to Tir's room, where Ted begs to become part of Tir's party to help repay his father Teo and the family. The player agrees in the footage. While this is going on, everyone else heads into the dining room in the background. Ted also insinuates that he has a secret to share, but Gremio interrupts, so it gets put aside for the moment.

Tir and Ted then join Teo, Gremio, Pahn, and Cleo in the dining room. Teo announces that he's been called away, and Tir will be in charge while he's gone. He asks that Gremio, Cleo, Pahn, and Ted all support Tir while he's away. We then see his toast to Tir and to the empire.

Here's the full Suikoden 1 HD Remaster gameplay video featuring Tir, Ted, Teo, Gremio, Cleo, and Pahn.
