Welcome to the Week in Review
Welcome
Hands up if you’d heard of DeepSeek this time last week? Me neither – but we’ve certainly heard of it now, after a truly remarkable few days in the tech world.

The Chinese AI appeared seemingly from nowhere over the weekend, and by Monday morning was top of the Apple App Store, ahead of ChatGPT. By the end of the day, its success had caused Nvidia’s shares to plummet. By Tuesday, it was front-page news across the world.

We were there every step of the way, of course, and you’ll find some of the many stories we wrote about it below – not least John-Anthony Disotto’s must-read comparison between DeepSeek and ChatGPT.

All of which might have overshadowed the launch of Nvidia’s new RTX 5080 and 5090 graphics cards, if not for the fact that they were so good (we described the 5090 as the “the supercar of graphics cards” in our review), an so highly sought after (stock is already hard to find).

DeepSeek might also stolen some of the limelight from our Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra review, but again it was too special to be ignored, with Editor at Large Lance Ulanoff describing it as “the ultimate Android”. You'll find his comprehensive verdict linked below, and you can read about the massive Garmin outage that took down the watches of users around the world, and get our picks for what to watch this weekend… and a lot more. We are still, and always will be, smarter than any AI (however good it is).
