One of 2025's best RPGs just got a free tabletop version

Between Clair Obscur: Exposition 33, The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy, and Like a Dragon: Pirate Yazuka in Hawaii, 2025 has been a pretty good year for RPGs. But one of the very best might be Citizen Sleeper 2. It's a melancholic, hopeful, and stressful spacefaring journey through a cyberpunk universe. Now, to celebrate the original game's third anniversary, studio Jump Over The Age has released a free tabletop RPG. All you'll need is the printed-out game document, 10 six-sided dice, and a pencil and eraser.

The indie deckbuilder is a crowded genre, filled with certified classics like Slay The Spire. Even so, there are many games doing interesting things with cards and decks. At first glance, Battle Suit Aces stuns with its anime-inspired visuals, which pull on super robot classics like Gurran Lagann. But its tactical battles, visual-novel storytelling, and Persona-like structure give it serious depth. You can play the demo right now.

New horror shooter mixing Resident Evil and Battlefield 1 finally hits Steam

I've always admired the mood of Battlefield 1. It's a strangely horrifying shooter, especially for a mainstream release. Death is quick and easy, the horizon is lined with fire and explosions, your shoes are caked with mud. It's dirty, grungy, and unheroic. Indie game Trench Tales pulls on that tradition capably. It's a third-person, action-horror game set in an alternate, haunted WW1 and it launches on Steam in early access very soon.

New Quintessential Quintuplets Game Is a Dungeon Crawler RPG

Mages revealed that the new The Quintessential Quintuplets game is a dungeon crawler RPG. It will be released under the title of The Quintessential Princesses: Fantasy, the Abyss, and the Magic Academy. The game is set to release for PS4, PS5, and Switch in Japan on September 18, 2025.

At the time of writing, there is no information on an overseas release. This new spin-off of the manga and anime series is set in a magic academy that follows the five siblings of the Nakano family meeting with protagonist Futaro Uesugi in this new setting. The game will be divided between visual novel sections, and exploration and combat sections in which the player, as Futaro, will suply the Nakano siblings with equipment and magic to complete quests.

The new game was teased earlier on May 1, 2025, with its announcement set for Ichika, Nino, Miku, Yotsuba, and Itsuki Nakano's birthday on May 5, 2025. Mages previously developed and released various The Quintessential Quintuplets visual novels, including Memories of a Quintessential Summer and Five Memories Spent with You. The latest title in the series is Five Promises Made with Her, and it has yet to be localized. However, two others did appear outside Japan.

The new Quintessential Quintuplets dungeon crawler RPG, The Quintessential Princesses: Fantasy, the Abyss, and the Magic Academy, will appear in Japan on September 18, 2025 for the Switch, PS4, and PS5.

FFXIV Outrunner Plush Keychains Head to Japanese Arcades

Taito announced another new type of Final Fantasy XIV merchandise, this time being a collection of four Outrunner plush keychains based on the FFXIV Dawntrail enemy and mount. These will debut around the second half of May 2025. The only store that ships worldwide and offers a listing for them so far is Aitai Kuji, which is selling them for ¥2,500 (~$17) each.

By default, an Outrunner in FFXIV Dawntrail is a machine with a purple face that has two white eyes in it. However, that expression can change during fights or play, as seen during the applicable Hunt or mount. The three other options act as a nod to those different looks, with one being angry, another confused, and one knocked out. Each one is just under three inches tall (7cm) and has a ball-chain keychain cord attached.

Here's the official photo showing how they will look:

This is the second recent piece of Final Fantasy XIV merchandise Taito announced, with the last one being a FFXIV world map rug. That showed up in Japan in April 2025

The Final Fantasy XIV Outrunner plush from Taito will appear in Japanese arcades at the end of May 2025, and FFXIV and its Dawntrail expansion are available for the PS4, PS5, PC, and mobile devices.

Genshin Impact Ifa Gameplay Trailers Highlight the Natlan Character

Ifa is a new four-star Genshin Impact Anemo character from the Natlan region joining the roster permanently once 5.6 launches on May 7, 2025. To help offer more insight into who he is and how he works, HoYoVerse released two trailers looking at him. One is a standard Genshin Impact Collected Miscellany video showcasing gameplay, while the other is more about his personality.

First, here's the Genshin Impact "Ifa: The Warmth of Down" Collected Miscellany gameplay trailer. It begins by explaining he's designed to be on-field as a DPS. There's no English voice over with it, but turning on closed captions offers English subtitles. His standard attack can hit up to three times, with the charged version dealing AOE damage to an area. His Skill is Airborne Disease Prevention, which trigger's Nightsoul's Blessing. He'll hover by holding on to Cacucu and will hurt enemies and heal allies with Tonicshots. His Compound Sedation Field Burst deals Anemo AOE damage and inflict Sedation Marks on enemies. His passive in the field heals active characters with under 40% HP if Phlogiston is present.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxGw6VPX0m4

Next, here's the "Ifa: Air Patrol" trailer focusing on the character's personality and what his daily life is like. It emphasizes that he's a doctor first and warrior second. Unlike the Collected Miscellany, it features English voice acting. While it's more dedicated to his background, there's some Genshin Impact gameplay shown here too.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQrF4WV942k

While Ifa will be a permanent addition, it will be easier to get him briefly for a limited time. This is because he's part of the 5.6 phase one banners as a focus unit. Whether you pull on the new five-star Escoffier banner or rerun one with Navia, you'll have higher odds of getting him.

Genshin Impact is available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, PC, and mobile devices, and Ifa will become a permanent four-star character after 5.6 launches on May 7, 2025.

HoYoVerse confirmed "The Fall at Dawn's Rise" showcase will air on Twitch and YouTube at 4:30am PT/7:30am ET on May 9, 2025. This comes after some tidbits already appeared during the concert stream

The initial image for the showcase teased some of the things we can expect from this presentation. As usual, it will cover new Trailblaze story quests and events in the update. We'll also see gameplay footage for new five-star characters Cipher and Hyacine. The voice actresses for both of them will also appear as "hosts" alongside Owlbert and the one behind Castorice. New Shonen Jump Manga Is Magical Girl and Narco Wars

Shueisha announced its newest Shonen Jump Plus manga series is Magical Girl and Narco Wars from Yu Nomiya and Meijimerou. It is available worldwide, with the English localization available via MangaPlus. The first chapter is available online to read for free. Note that this is a mature series with graphic elements, and it's one of the darker new stories from Shueisha.

The title of Magical Girl and Narco Wars is pretty self-explanatory, as the manga follows a magical girl named Riri Hoshina who ends up helping an undercover officer named Akira Susui deal with a new drug epidemic that hit Japan. Things begin with Riri chasing down and defeating someone dealing Candy, a new drug that consists of some of the same ingredients as the treat and is packaged in that way to help slip under the radar. While undercover with the Fuyugiri Family in the Jinsei Clan, Akira attends a funeral and finds out many yakuza are being murdered in a mysterious manner by an unknown assailant. After a chance encounter, we learn that Riri is aware of him, and the two team up to go after Candy's manufacturer and end that menace.

Shueisha frequently adds new manga series to the Shonen Jump lineup. For example, one of the last ones to appear ahead of this one was Nice Prison. As of May 5, 2025, that is the 11th most popular series in the MangaPlus "hottest" list. Another series that's fairly new is Love is Overkill. The first volume of that just launched in Japan in May 2025.

The first chapter of the new Shonen Jump manga Magical Girl and Narco Wars is available worldwide, and chapter 2 will debut on May 12, 2025.

Hololive Vtuber Houshou Marine Hits 4 Million Subscribers

Hololive Vtuber Houshou Marine hit 4 million subscribers on YouTube on May 5, 2025. This makes her the first Japanese Vtuber to hit that milestone. The second most popular Japanese member of the company in Japan is Hoshimachi Suisei with 2.72 million, while the Nijisanji member with the most subscribers is Kuzuha with 1.97 million. Her stream to reach that figure and celebrate was still live as of 10:20am ET on May 5, 2025.

Here's the official stream Marine had running as she hit that hallmark and surpassed it.

https://www.youtube.com/live/X4-FNbcsuHY

Just ahead of the new hallmark, Marine celebrated another occasion. The performer released a new original song, complete with anime music video by Production HASU, on April 29, 2025. That track is called "A Horny Money World," and you can watch it below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2_opjVlYhi4

This means that Houshou Marine got closer to hitting a record number of subscribers set by now-graduated Hololive English Vtuber Gawr Gura. When Gura graduated on May 1, 2025, she had 4.74 million subscribers on YouTube. As mentioned earlier, in third place is Suisei, with 2.72 million people following her as of May 5, 2025. Usada Pekora came in just after with 2.7 million as of that date. The fifth most popular Hololive Vtuber, in terms of people following her, is Kobo Kanaeru with 2.67 million.

Houshou Marine is now at 4 million subscribers, and it is currently unknown what sort of special celebration or Hololive Vtuber merchandise could be released to mark the occasion.

Sonic the Hedgehog DC Justice League Toys Announced

Back in September 2024, Warner Bros and Sega announced a DC x Sonic the Hedgehog crossover that would pair characters from the game series with the Justice League, and now the two are going a step further with a line of toys from Jakks Pacific. While there are no exact details about everything that will entail, in Fall 2025 there will be figures, stuffed animals, and "vehicles" inspired by the collaboration. These will be sold in-stores and online. The first and second installments of the comics are already available via stores like Amazon

This means that the toys will be available after the DC Justice League and Sonic the Hedgehog crossover comic series ends. The first issue appeared in March 2025, followed by a second in April 2025. This storyline will run over five issues and end in July 2025, and the earliest we could see the toys is around September 2025. Ian Flynn, who is known for the standalone Sonic comics series, is behind this latest line's story.

While we don't know what the toys will look like yet, Warner Bros and Sega already shared art of the Sonic characters dressed up as the iconic comic heroes. For this collection Sonic ended up paired with The Flash, Knuckles with Superman, Amy Rose with Wonder Woman, Tails with Cyborg, Shadow with Batman, and Silver with Green Lantern.

Here's the full collection of art of the characters dressed in DC hero costumes.

The Sonic the Hedgehog and DC Justice League comics are running now through July 2025 for a five issue series, and the toys based on the crossover will release in Fall 2025.

Oblivion Remastered tree person

Oblivion Remastered has a huge number of quests to complete, and it takes a significant amount of time if you're looking to finish all of them.

A vast chunk of your time will go towards completing the main quests, which are part of the central lore. Completing these quests will help you finish your campaign quicker (if you played the OG 2006 version, you'll know what you're in for). But the main campaign isn't the only area worth your attention, as there are plenty of optional quests that will keep you busy.

All main quests in Oblivion Remastered

Here's the complete list of all the missions in the main questline. You can't skip these quests since the game will remain incomplete if you do so. It will take you longer to complete them if you're putting extra effort into completing the side missions.

Warzone's HRM-9 SMG with the logo on top right

If you're looking for an SMG that can tear up your opponents at close range in Warzone, the HRM-9 is the one you need to grab. Here's the best HRM-9 loadout in Warzone Season three.

an image of a HRM-9 build for Warzone
Screenshot by Destructoid

Best HRM-9 build in Warzone season three

  • Muzzle: Bruen Pendulum
  • Barrel: Thorn-90 Barrel
  • Magazine: 50 Round Drum
  • Stock: Hatchet Light Stock
  • Ammunition: 9mm High Grain Rounds

Since the HRM-9 is a weapon from Modern Warfare III, you cannot equip eight attachments using the Gunfighter Wildcard. So, you are locked to a five-attachment SMG.

Best HRM-9 loadout in Warzone

What you can do instead is equip the Overkill Wildcard and carry a sniper rifle to increase the firepower of your loadout.

  • Sniper Rifle: HDR

    • Muzzle: Monolithic Suppressor
    • Barrel: Gain-Twist Barrel
    • Underbarrel: Lightweight Bipod
    • Rear Grip: Quickdraw Grip
    • Fire Mods: 108mm Overpressured

  • Tactical: Smoke Grenade
  • Lethal: Semtex
  • Perk 1: Survivor
  • Perk 2: Sprinter
  • Perk 3: Tempered

As usual, the combination of Semtex and Smoke Grenades is the best for BR. If you want to rock an 8-attachment sniper, you can check our guide for the best HDR loadout to use in Warzone in Verdansk.

HRM-9 loadout choices, explained

Starting off with the Bruen Pendulum, this muzzle significantly increases recoil control and gun kick control, helping it to control better during matches.

The Thorn-90 Barrel makes it easier to take down enemies from increased ranges. It improves Hipfire and Tac Stance Spread, ADS Speed, Sprint to Fire Speed, and Sprint Speed.

The 50 Round Drum will carry 50 bullets in total, which is crucial for Warzone as it can help take down an entire squad if used properly. What Hatchet Light Stock does to the SMG is it improves the HRM-9's ADS, Aim Walking, and Movement Speeds.

Lastly, the 9mm High Grain Rounds will significantly imcrease the Damage Range and Bullet Velocity of the weapon.

This Warzone HRM-9 class is for run-and-gunners, designed to get into the face of your opponents. This is best for those who don't like hanging back, and is very strong in close-quarters combat, especially in buildings.

Chromatic Abbest in Expedition 33

The Chromatic Abbest is certainly one of the harder bosses to defeat in Clair Obscur Expedition 33, and it can become a real pain if you're not careful.

In general, bosses in Expedition 33 are hard to defeat and difficult to manage. You'll have to take some time to understand how they operate and compose your team accordingly. However, the Chromatic Abbest takes the difficulty to a new level, but this guide will make it easy for you to manage the situation.

Best tips and tricks to defeat the Chromatic Abbest in Clair Obscur Expedition 33

There are two key elements when it comes to defeating the Chromatic Abbest.

  • Observe and anticipate the attack patterns.
  • Set up a team accordingly.

The attacks are a double-edged sword. They're easy to anticipate and follow a repetitive pattern, which makes it easy for you to avoid and dodge the attacks, but you'll have to get this right. Chromatic Abbest has deadly attacks that can create massive combos in Clair Obscur Expedition 33. Between parries and dodges, the latter is beneficial. It offers a bigger window, allowing you to avoid any incoming damage completely.

However, there will be times when a parry will be hard to execute. In such cases, you'll have to resort to dodges. The main objective is to receive as little damage as possible since the Chromatic Abbest's attacks are dangerous.

In terms of attacks, elemental damage is the way to go. Chromatic Abbest has incredible resistance to all forms of Physical attacks, so it makes little sense to go with it. However, it's neutral to elemental damage. It's best to go for longer combos that specialize in elemental damage to get the best results.

You'll also want to bring characters who do Dark and Light damage. You'll deal more damage by doing so, which will help eliminate the boss. You can take advantage of this method once you have cleared a certain amount of the story. If you're yet to get such benefits, just concentrate on the correct attack type (elemental over physical).

Screenshot via Sandfall Interactive

Finally, try to shoot at the Chromatic Abbest's middle eye to do a lot of damage. This move can be done once in the battle, so make sure to take advantage of it. This will be relatively hard (in my experience), so make sure not to worry too much if you can't nail it. You can easily defeat the Chromatic Abbest even if you can't land a hit on its eye.

All Chromatic Abbest rewards in Clain Obscur Expedition 33

Defeating the Chromatic Abbest might not be an easy job, but you'll get plenty of amazing rewards for completing the task.

  • 2x Resplendent Chroma Catalyst
  • 5x Colour of Lumina
  • 4,073 Chroma
  • 59,063 XP

You can find these creatures in the Abbest Cave. You'll have to take a left after exiting Spring Meadows. You'll find a spot with ping vines. Since the Abbest Cave is an optional area, the same applies to the boss. You can defeat it as many times as you want to level up and obtain various rewards.

"ENEMY AC-130 ABOVE!" If you immediately hear this voiceline in your head and feel a shiver down your spine, then do I have the indie game for you.

The classic AC-130 gunship killstreak that made its mark on gaming culture way back in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has been Vampire Survivors-ized in a fun indie title that was brought to my attention this morning, and I've been having a good bit of fun playing it so far in its early access offering.

Screenshot by Destructoid

Metal Thunder is its name, and it comes from a solo developer by the name of "Tolga." The game, which launched in Steam early access this past November, features AC-130 gameplay wrapped up in action-roguelite upgrades a la Vampire Survivors and other games like it, and it makes for a pretty unique experience.

If you were skilled (or lucky) enough to nab an AC-130 killstreak in MW2 back in the day, the gameplay will immediately feel familiar to you. You fly high above a battlefield, defending your interests from invading soldiers and vehicles while cycling through a variety of weapons that you unlock by playing the game as you would any roguelite, leveling up and earning new and improved skills.

While the "Survivors" genre of games is usually more passive, Metal Thunder adds its own wrinkle by allowing you to aim and fire each weapon in 20-minute long missions, unlocking new weapons and perks such as your own artillery, vehicles, or infantry to help defend your objective while utilizing the trademark thermal cameras of a high-powered modern gunship in the sky. Expect 30mm cannons, 120mm cannons, gatling guns, phosphorus cannons, and more as you play through a variety of missions and locales with differing objectives.

Screenshot by Destructoid

As a fan of both CoD and the "survivors" genre, this immediately appealed to me when it hit my email inbox this morning, catching my attention from the dozen or so other games that I'm alerted about each week. Tolga was quick to send over a copy of the game for me to try out, and I'm happy to say that it scratched the itch I was expecting it to, combining different genres and ideas to supply something unique.

Metal Thunder is in early access and has a roadmap of planned content to execute on, including a campaign with more and new missions to go along with its current Survival offering, and even a Zombies mode eventually with its own campaign, weapons, and maps.

Screenshot by Destructoid

It's currently $10.99 on Steam, and has enough of a base experience and challenge for now to justify the price, but will likely only get better with time as it approaches 1.0 launch.

One of the main rewards of the Premier League TOTS Cup in EA FC 25

The TOTS Premier League Cup is live in EA FC 25, and Ultimate Team players can make the most out of the Friendlies to get some amazing rewards.

The latest batch of rewards allows us to get seasonal XP, packs, and up to two guaranteed Premier League TOTS items if we can manage to finish the entire set. This guide will provide all the important information you need to maximize your rewards.

EA FC 25 TOTS Premier League Cup guide

The TOTS Premier League Cup is pretty similar to last week's Ligue 1 Cup. There are seven tasks to complete, and all require you to win a certain number of games in the TOTS Premier League Cup friendly mode.

Task How to Complete Rewards
Kick-Off Kingdom Win 1 match in the Live Ultimate Team Friendly: TOTS Premier League Cup. 83+ x2 Rare Gold Players Pack
London Derby Days Win 2 matches in the Live Ultimate Team Friendly: TOTS Premier League Cup. 83+ x5 Rare Gold Players Pack
Class on Grass Win 4 matches in the Live Ultimate Team Friendly: TOTS Premier League Cup. 84+ x5 Rare Gold Players Pack
Big Six Statement Win 6 matches in the Live Ultimate Team Friendly: TOTS Premier League Cup. Justin Kluivert TOTS
Scenes at the Bridge Win 8 matches in the Live Ultimate Team Friendly: TOTS Premier League Cup. Low Driven Shot Evo
Glory, Glory Winner Win 10 matches in the Live Ultimate Team Friendly: TOTS Premier League Cup. 83+ x10 Rare Gold Players Pack
Crown The Champion Win 12 matches in the Live Ultimate Team Friendly: TOTS Premier League Cup. 83+ x10 Rare Gold Players Pack

It's a shame that you'll have to win a certain number of games to unlock all the rewards. This makes it slightly trickier to get the rewards on offer, but it should still be feasible for everyone. You'll have to build your squad based on the custom requirements of the cup, too.

Once you complete the full set of tasks, you'll unlock the Jean-Philippe Mateta TOTS item and 1,500 SP. The SP is super helpful if you're behind on obtaining the Season 7 rewards. The objective also includes a Justin Kluivert TOTS item (that's better than the Mateta card). Overall, it's an excellent set of rewards that you shouldn't miss out on during the TOTS season.

GTA 6 protagonist

Let's face it: Grand Theft Auto 6 was 2025's (now 2026's) most hyped game. Other great releases have also come out, yet nothing compares to the overwhelming force GTA 6 has on the gaming industry. Where it'll launch, though, will impact this even more.

GTA 5 is available on numerous platforms, starting on the PS3 and Xbox 360 and later on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Let's find out which platforms GTA 6 is confirmed to launch on and whether it'll follow a similar course.

What platforms will GTA 6 release on?

Rockstar Games has confirmed that GTA 6 will launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on May 26, 2026. While Rockstar previously planned to release it in Fall 2025, it's since been delayed to 2026, with no official word on when it'll come to PC, older consoles, or future generations.

GTA 6 information and trailer page
Image via Rockstar Games

The first major update Rockstar gave the GTA community about the game's release date was an announcement in May 2024, highlighting GTA 6's Fall 2025 release window. Rockstar's site later confirmed it'd launch on PS5 and Xbox X/S, with no word on whether it'd come to PC, PS4, or Xbox One. Since then, we've heard tidbits about a potential PC port, but the details are limited.

When is GTA 6 coming out on PC?

At the time of writing, there's no word on when Grand Theft Auto 6 will launch on PC. There are also no further updates from Rockstar on whether GTA 6 will follow a similar console and PC release pattern as GTA 5.

GTA 5 first launched on the PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2013 before being ported to PS4 and Xbox One a year later. A few months later, it arrived on PC, with subsequent PS5 and Xbox X/S ports in 2022. While we're unlikely to see GTA 6 on older consoles anytime soon, a PC port will likely arrive a year or two later. Take-Two has even commented on GTA 6's PC port, implying it's inevitable, even if it won't happen anytime soon. It could arrive as early as late 2026, but there's a strong possibility it'll launch in 2027 or later.

There's also no official word on whether GTA 6 will launch on future consoles, but it's highly likely. After all, we saw this happen with GTA 5, and capitalizing on the hype of a new console would only grow GTA 6's popularity even more. We know Microsoft is aiming to release an Xbox Series X/S successor in 2027, so the odds of Rockstar eventually porting GTA 6 onto it are high, albeit not guaranteed.

Standing by some square Gems in Disney Dreamlight Valley

Star Path event tasks are often tricky to solve and complete because they have specific rules that don't always make sense in Disney Dreamlight Valley. One of these duties asks you to mine for square Gems around the village.

Figuring out which Gems are square is surprisingly difficult, especially since not every Gem that is square-shaped works for this task. You have to mine certain specific ones to get this task done, so here's how to mine for square Gems in Disney Dreamlight Valley.

Which Gems are square in Disney Dreamlight Valley?

Holding a Pickaxe by a rock node with blue Gems sticking out of it in Disney Dreamlight Valley
Screenshot by Destructoid

There are six Gems that qualify as square for the Star Path task that asks you to mine them. For all of these Gems, the shiny variants also count as square since they're all the same item, just better quality.

Gem Where to find
Amethyst (+Shiny Amethyst) Can be mined from rock nodes around the Frosted Heights and Forgotten Lands biomes.
Emerald (+Shiny Emerald) Can be mined from rock nodes around the Forest of Valor and Glade of Trust biomes.
Ruby (+Shiny Ruby) Can be mined from rock nodes around the Vitalys Mines. If you have The Storybook Vale DLC, it can also be found around Mythopia in The Elysian Fields, The Statue's Shadow, and The Fiery Plains.
Sapphire (+Shiny Sapphire) Can be mined from rock nodes around the Vitalys Mines.
Spinel (+Shiny Spinel) Can be mined from rock nodes around The Promenade and The Grove if you have the A Rift in Time DLC.
Topaz (+Shiny Topaz) Can be mined from rock nodes around the Plaza. If you have The Storybook Vale DLC, it can be found in The Bind. If you have the A Rift in Time DLC, it can be found around The Docks and The Courtyard.

Despite also being square-shaped, Onyx doesn't count for this task. Any Gems beyond the six listed here won't work, as only these six are flagged as square for the purposes of the Star Path event task. This quest is a bit tricky since it doesn't account for every square Gem you can mine.

Mine for square Gems in Disney Dreamlight Valley

To finish the mine for square Gems duty in the Garden of Whimsy Star Path event, you need to mine 10 Gems that the game considers square. Focus on finding and mining Amethyst, Emerald, Ruby, Sapphire, Spinel, and Topaz to get this task done.

When working on this task, be sure to bring along a villager who specializes in mining. Characters you assigned this role to have a chance of finding extra Gems while hanging out with you. Any additional Gems they uncover won't count for the Star Path task, but since you're mining anyway, it's still worth having some help so you can gather more to sell for Star Coins, craft with, store away, and use for quests.

Mining for Gems in disney dreamlight valley
Screenshot by Destructoid

Completing this duty gets you 25 Tokens to spend in the Garden of Whimsy event. This is the most you can obtain from any single quest, so it's certainly a task worth completing. If you need more Tokens, consider working on giving gifts to a blonde, chatting with a curious young villagergiving Arendelle's Queen her favorites, and digging up a root vegetable with many eyes next.

Fortnite Darth Vader Samurai

With every new Fortnite season comes fierce bosses to defeat and rewards to claim. During Chapter 6, Season 3, Fortnite is having a Star Wars collaboration event, letting you fight Darth Vader himself and learn how to wield a Sith Lightsaber.

Where do you find Darth Vader during this event? How do you obtain his Lightsaber? What does this Lightsaber do? This interaction raises plenty of questions, and fortunately, we've got all the answers you need. Let's talk about where to find Darth Vader in Fortnite Chapter 6, Season 3.

Darth Vader location in Fortnite Star Wars Galactic Battle

Darth Vader spawns in Vader Samurai's Solitude during every Fortnite match. You'll find Vader Samurai's Solitude in the bottom left corner of the map. Since this is a highly contested spot, your best bet is to arrive here from the Battle Bus, gear up using the chests within the POI, and fight any enemies that cross your path.

Fortnite Darth Vader mask icon
Screenshot by Destructoid

Once you spawn into your match, you'll spot Darth Vader's helmet icon on your map. That way, if someone makes it to this landmark before you and defeats him, the marker will disappear, letting you know he's no longer available to fight.

Rather than appearing as his usual Sith Lord self, Darth Vader now dons a samurai outfit and a matching helmet to fit the area's theme. You'll also find several Stormtrooper NPCs patrolling the area, so watch out for them as you search for Darth Vader.

How to find Darth Vader's Lightsaber in Fortnite

Fortnite Darth Vader training rift gate
Screenshot by Destructoid

Acquiring Darth Vader's Lightsaber, known in-game as the Sith Apprentice Lightsaber, requires defeating him and speaking to him after he opens a Training Rift Gate. Like regular gates, you'll talk to him and confirm that you want the Lightsaber. Doing this lets you enter the portal and exit with a Lightsaber in hand.

Sith Apprentice Lightsaber abilities and stats

Every Lightsaber in Fortnite Chapter 6, Season 3 has fast regular attacks, blocking so you can reflect incoming projectiles, and a double jump known as Force Jump. Darth Vader's Sith Apprentice variant includes Force Saber Throw, turning the Lightsaber into a boomerang that inflicts around 70 damage to whoever it hits.

Fortnite Sith Apprentice lightsaber
Screenshot by Destructoid

This ability is a hit or miss. While the Lightsaber itself attacks quickly and deals around 40 damage per hit, Saber Throw can either be very helpful or noticeably worse than regular blaster shots. Since you'll likely have a gun by this point in your match, your ranged weapon options will generally be much stronger than this ability.

When does it come in handy, then? Any situation where you can easily get into melee range, or if you have the high ground and can knock enemies away from you. Saber Throw knocks opponents back, letting you eliminate players using fall damage if you're on a mountain or building. Even if the damage is low, you can run or jump down and finish them off or shoot them with other long-range weapons. This is especially handy in Zero Build since your opponents can't build around themselves to block your attacks.

Expedition 33 Verso eclipse world

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a unique title, and it should absolutely stand on its own merit, but it's impossible to talk about or critique the game without mentioning its clear Final Fantasy inspiration.

Sandfall Interactive has not been shy about where its ideas about Expedition 33 came from. Turn-based JRPGs like the classic Final Fantasy titles are the blood of the game experience, from the story to the turn-based combat that defines it. And now I think I know exactly why the game is so damn good.

Maelle in Lumiere screenshot from Expedition 33
Screenshot by Destructoid

In a March 25 Giant Bomb video that's been making the rounds again after the game's huge success, Expedition 33 creative director Guillaume Broche solidified himself as a current and future king of the industry, for me, with one simple quote.

"Final Fantasy VIII is the best one, I will die on that hill," Broche said as the group explored a Tower Records, and suddenly I felt as though I was ready to follow him into the depths of hell for the rest of his career. Because damn it, he's right, and I'm sick of pretending that he's not.

In the video, Giant Bomb's Tamoor Hussain mentions that Expedition 33's "reactive turn-based" reminds him of Squall's Gunblade attacks in FF8, and it all clicked for me. I've been doing QTEs and that sort of turn-based RPG combat since 1999, timing my R1 button presses in time with Squall's slashes with the most underrated weapon in all of video game history.

For those who haven't played FF8 (shame on you), the main character Squall's weapon is a Gunblade. It's a sword that is also a gun, and it should be in the hall of fame of video game weapons alongside everything from the Master Sword to the Needler to the Blades of Chaos. If I could mount any one video game weapon on my wall, it would be the Gunblade.

And so, the hilt of the Gunblade has a trigger that you pull that fires a bullet out of the end of the blade, and when timed properly during Squall's attacks, does extra damage. This is extremely similar to Expedition 33's combat, and explains why it scratches such an itch for me. It brings me back to the beginnings of my love for JRPGs.

Funnily enough, Broche goes on to say that Expedition 33's combat is actually inspired by Lost Odyssey, which features circles closing in on each other that must be timed with button presses, but I feel like you'd be hard pressed to say that that game's combat wasn't in turn also inspired by FF8.

And this is why I will never understand why FF8 is often hated on as one of the "worst" PlayStation era Final Fantasy games, especially when compared to VII, IX, and X. Broche also says that for most people it's about which FF you played first, and that was VIII for me. But even on subsequent playthroughs, it just feels so damn good, and I feel like a lot of that has to do with the Gunblade's mini QTE's.

Final Fantasy 8 remaster Squall Renzokuken screenshot
Image via Square Enix

I mean, sure, the story isn't the strongest and a lot of people hate the Junction system (which vaguely reminds me of Pictos and Lumina in E33), but the characters and the world are its strengths in my mind. And nothing can change that, no matter how many times I'm told the other games are better.

Basically, you should play FF8, and if you played it and didn't like it, you should play it again with E33 fresh in your mind. You should definitely play it if you haven't been a turn-based RPG fan, but E33 may have changed your mind.

Wouldn't you know it, FF VIII Remastered is just $8 on Steam right now! Very cheeky. In my biased opinion, I think it's eight of the best dollars you can spend...but only after you finish Expedition 33.

The mass exodus of formerly exclusive Xbox franchises continues today, with Gears of War being the latest to make its way to PS5.

Gears of War: Reloaded is a remastered version of the 2006 classic, and it's coming to PlayStation for the first time along with Xbox and PC when it launches later this summer with a suite of visual and technical upgrades, Microsoft announced today.

Image via Xbox

Gears will join other Xbox franchises like Forza, Sea of Thieves, and others debuting on the rival platform, and it sounds like it'll be a real pretty version of the game that launched the successful third-person shooter series almost 20 years ago.

Gears of War: Reloaded will support 4K resolution, 60 FPS in the campaign, 120 FPS in eight-player multiplayer, HDR, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, 3D Spatial Audio, VRR, remastered textures, 4K assets, enhanced post-processing, and zero loading screens during the campaign. And yeah, you'll be able to play the game cross-platform with anyone on any console or PC, too.

To compensate those who bought 2015's Gears of War: Ultimate Edition remaster, Reloaded will be a free upgrade for those who already own it, and it will also be a day-one Game Pass Ultimate game. But for PS5 players who feel as though they have been missing out, now's the time for them to join the locust-slaying party.

Next year will mark Gears of War's 20th anniversary, so this sort of announcement makes a lot of sense. I'm sure there's even more that Microsoft and Xbox have up their sleeves for Gears in the future, including the upcoming Gears of War: E-Day prequel, which now looks destined for PS5 eventually, too.

Image via Xbox

Gears of War: Reloaded will launch on Aug. 26 at a discounted price of $39.99 for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, Xbox Cloud Gaming, PlayStation 5, Steam, Game Pass Ultimate, and PC Game Pass.

GTA 6: a purple sports car along a purple road, framed with purple palm trees, with the sun setting in the background.

It's no secret that GTA 6 is almost certainly going to be one of the biggest releases in recent gaming history, if not the biggest. Since the fifth game in Rockstar's monstrously lucrative Grand Theft Auto series was released back in 2013, many eagerly anticipate the next installment.

We know the studio has been working on it for what feels like an eternity. We've had dribs and drabs of official details, many, many rumors, and a teaser trailer that quickly became one of the most watched videos on YouTube. In short, we're very much ready for the next game.

But how long has Rockstar actually been working on GTA 6? In order to impart some idea of how long it's been in development, I've put together a brief timeline, showing some of the bigger announcements. I think we can all agree, though, that it's been in the pipeline for a ridiculously long time.

GTA 6 timeline, explained

The web that is Grand Theft Auto 6's timeline is challenging to untangle, but not impossible. Most of the information comes from rumors, but a few concrete details give us an idea of when GTA 6 started development. Let's break down the complete timeline:

  • 2014 - Development on GTA 6 reportedly began, about a year after Grand Theft Auto 5 was released.
  • February 4, 2022 - About eight years into development, Rockstar posts a community update, confirming that "active development for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway."
  • July 2, 2022 - A few months later, another post on the Rockstar Games website says the team has been "steadily moving more development resources" towards GTA 6. This was also around the time the studio said it was changing how it supported Red Dead Online.
  • July 27, 2022 - A report from Bloomberg (paywall) confirmed that GTA 6 would have a female protagonist, the first time this had been the case in the franchise's 25-year history.
  • August 8, 2022 - GTA 5 reaches a sales milestone of 170 million units as parent company Take-Two Interactive restates that the next entry in the series was well into development, as noted in this conference call.
  • September 18 & September 19, 2022 - The big GTA 6 leaks happen, in which early footage from the game is leaked to the public, showcasing the work the studio has put into it thus far. A day later, Rockstar confirms the development footage was the result of a "network intrusion."
  • November 8, 2023 - The developer sends out a message, announcing that the first official Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer will be released in December of that year. The game had been in development for almost a decade at this point.
  • December 4, 2023 - Surprise! The trailer is leaked just 15 hours before it was supposed to. According to YouTube, it racked up 93 million views in 24 hours.
  • December 5, 2023 - Rockstar launches the Grand Theft Auto 6 website.
  • February 28, 2024 - The studio asks staff to return to the office as GTA 6 enters the "final stretch of development." A release date feels imminent at this point.
  • May 16, 2024 - Take-Two Interactive confirms a release date of "Autumn 2025," as noted in a report from Variety.
  • February 10, 2025 - CEO of Take-Two, Strauss Zelnick, neither confirms nor denies whether GTA 6 will come to PC.
  • May 2, 2025 - Grand Theft Auto 6 has been delayed to May 26, 2026, as per an announcement from Rockstar Games.

Development for GTA 6 is believed to have started as soon as GTA 5 was released. However, considering that Red Dead Redemption 2 was the next major project on Rockstar Games' radar, work on the following Grand Theft Auto installment may not have fully taken off at that point. My guess is that if anything began in 2014, it was likely just the early idea phase rather than full development. The real development probably didn't start until Red Dead Redemption 2 launched on October 26, 2018. From then on, it was likely all hands on deck at Rockstar Games, aside from the teams focused on GTA and Red Dead Online.

This speculation lines up with Rockstar Games' official confirmation in early 2022 that the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series was "well underway." While we don't have an exact timeline, there are two reasonable estimates. If we go by the theory that development began right after GTA 5, it would be about 11 years. But if we base it on the post-Red Dead Redemption 2 timeline, it's closer to seven years.

On the other hand, we also have to take into account GTA 6's recent delay announcement. Now that the game has been pushed to 2026, its estimated development time is somewhere between eight and twelve years. This marks the longest development cycle in Rockstar Games' history, with Red Dead Redemption 2 reportedly coming in second at around eight years. And frankly, there could still be another delay on the horizon if the team feels there's more polishing to be done.

It's definitely been a long wait, but hopefully news is just around the corner, whether it's the highly anticipated Trailer 2 or even a few new screenshots. Judging by the insane level of visual detail and the expected massive scale of the map, it's no surprise that Grand Theft Auto 6 has taken this long to build. The big question now is: will it actually live up to the hype or even surpass the legacy that GTA 5 left behind? Only time will tell. While we wait for more information, be sure to check out the latest leaks about the game and who could be the next GOTY winner, with GTA 6 out of the race.

A Wagarashi player is running with his hands arms flailing back

Wagarashi is the newest Roblox game where you get to create your shinobi character and experience your ultimate Naruto fantasy. As cool as it would be to pick any of the given ninja clans, that's just not how Roblox games work. Instead, you have to roll, reroll, and likely roll some more until you get one of the better clans. If you're wondering which clans are better than others, then this Ultimate Wagarashi Clans Tier List is for you.

Wagarashi Clans Tier List

An updated tier list of all clans in Wagarashi
Image via Tier Maker / Remix by Destructoid

If you're familiar with Naruto, you likely already know which clans are better than others. Simply put, if the clan you roll is the same as one of the main characters from the show, it's likely one of the best ones.

S-Tier

Clan name Info
Uchiha Same as Sasuke and Itachi. Get your signature Sharingan eyes, Lions Barrage, Sharingan Genjutsu, and even a cool Kunai Assault. You also get a 5% Fire damage boost, which is pretty neat.
Hyuga Same as Hinata and Neji. Get your signature Byakugan eyes, as well as other moves you've seen from the show, like 64 Palms, Rotation, and Vaccum Palm.
Chinoike Same as Chino. Get the signature Ketsurygan eyes and the signature blood moves. Surprisingly effective.

A-Tier

Clan name Info
Sarutobi Same as the Third Hokage. Very decent fire damage, almost as good as the Uchiha clan.
Yuki Same as Haku. Use moves like the Demonic Ice Mirrors, Ice Eruption, and Ice Hammer.
Mu Just like the second Tsuchikage. Use moves like Particle Insertion and Pulse, as well as Atomic Prison and Prison Intrapment.
Senju Same as the First Hokage. Get a huge HP buff and use the First Hokage's signature wood moves.
Rai Same as the son of Raikage. Get lots of lightning based moves that look cool and do a decent amount of damage.
Uzumaki Same as Naruto. Even though you won't have a Kyuubi inside you, you'll get the Chain Seal, the Chain Trap and an enormous Chakra boost if you roll this clan.
Lee Same as Rock Lee. If you want to focus on melee attacks, this is actually a really great pick.

B-Tier

Clan name Info
Akimichi Same as Choji. inflate your body and do a lot of damage by rolling around. Regardless of damage, it's a ton of fun.
Karatachi Same as Kagura Karatachi. Use the power of Lava to attack. Not nearly as effective as other fire clans.
Hoshigaki Same as Kisame. Walk on water to recover your Chakra and do extra damage with water. You also get to enjoy Shark moves and Water blasts.
Hozuki Same as Gengetsu. Turn your body into a water mass and blast your enemies with water attacks.
Houki Same as Houki Taketori. A huge Wind damage boost along with a couple of wind moves, such as Triple Tornado and Devastating Winds.
Akafura Honestly, not much is known about this clan. All you need to know is that they use explosive attacks and they can pack a punch.
Kamizuru The bee clan. Attack your enemies with bees. What more could you ask for?
Suzumura The bubble clan. Use bubbles and water attacks. Not as effective as other water clans.
Iburi Like the underground fire clan. Use steam and smoke to confuse your enemies. Sounds cooler than it actually is.

C-Tier

Clan name Info
Kaguya Same as Kaguya Otsutsuki (the first chakra wielder). Use your bones to attack. Looks cool and gruesome and is really good for early game.
Miyajima The crystal clan. Use Crystals to attack, protect yourself, and even imprison your enemy. Looks cool, but not very powerful.
Yotsuki Same as Kiyoi (that guy who wanted to stop Sasuke from capturing Killer B.). Get a lightning attack boost and some laser attacks.
Namikaze Same as Minato (Naruto's father). Get the sparkling Raijin moves as well as two Rasengan variants.
Oribe Same as Pakura. Use fire orbs to attack your enemies. Looks cool but not very powerful.
Kazesuna Same as Gaara. Attack using sand. Yes, you can use Sand Coffin but there isn't a Sand Burial (probably too violent). Unfrotunately, it'a a bit underwhelming.

D-Tier

Clan name Info
Inuzuka Same as Kiba. You don't get a pet (yet), but you can highlight enemies, charge at them, and use Kiba's Slashing combo. Unfortuantely, it's just not that great.
Hatake Same as Kakashi. No Sharingan for you, but you do get some cool-looking lightning moves. Unfortunately, they aren't very good.
Aburame Same as Shino. Use bugs to attack your opponent. Despite each bug doing something different, it's not that great.

And there you have it. We hope you get lucky when rolling for your clan. If you haven't already, check out our Wagarashi Trello guide.

Captain Phasma and Shogun X Medallion bosses in Fortnite

There are many special items you can find around the island in Fortnite to increase your odds of getting further in the game. Some of the most powerful tools you can unlock are Medallions, but finding them can be tough.

Medallions are extremely exclusive, with only one of each kind available on the island during every round. You have to act quickly if you want to claim one, and know exactly where to look to find them. Here are all Medallions in Fortnite Chapter Six, season three, and how to get them.

All Fortnite Star Wars Galactic Battle Medallions

There are two Medallions you can find around the island in Fortnite's first Star Wars season, both of which are obtained by defeating bosses. There may be more added as the season progresses since the patch notes have lots of content updates planned, so if any additional ones become available, we'll add them here.

Medallion Icon How to get Effect
Phasma's Blaster Medallion Captain Phasma's Medallion in Fortnite Defeat Captain Phasma. Improves all blaster weapons with faster cooldowns and reduced heat regeneration.
Super Shield Medallion Shogun X shield bubble Medallion in fortnite Defeat Shogun X. Spawns a Shield Bubble Jr. around you whenever you use a healing item on yourself. This does not apply to splashes or grenades.

There's a third boss you can find on the island, which is Darth Vader Samurai. Surprisingly, he doesn't drop a Medallion as you may expect him to. All bosses usually do, so he's a strange one, apparently. He grants you a special lightsaber instead, though, so you do still get a pretty epic prize for besting him in combat.

How to get Phasma's Blaster Medallion in Fortnite

To get Phasma's Blaster Medallion, you need to find and beat Captain Phasma. She can be found wandering around the massive hangar near the north end of the First Order Base.

Captain Phasma is a decently tough boss to beat, but her aim is pretty bad, so you only need a weapon or two to take her down. She does have some very potent explosives in her arsenal, though, so be wary of them and watch out for when she throws them.

There's only one of these Medallions up for grabs in each match, so you need to try and be the first one to beat her if you want to earn it. If you miss out, you can try hunting down the player who claimed it by looking for the golden Medallion circle on the map.

How to get Super Shield Medallion in Fortnite

The Super Shield Medallion can be acquired by defeating Shogun X at Shogun's Arena. Shogun's Arena is the set of floating islands that spawn up in the sky fairly late in each match. There's no set time as to when it will appear, but it generally pops up when there are fewer than 30 players left after the third or fourth storm circle.

Shogun's Arena also doesn't have a single fixed location and can appear anywhere in the sky during each match. Once this location is available in your match, you need to quickly make your way there to find the Shogun X boss and take him down.

Shogun X is a lot more terrifying to fight than Captain Phasma. He's massive, moves really fast, and deals some devastating damage. Be sure to bring plenty of weapons, healing items, and anything else you can find before you go up against him. It should be fairly easy to stock up on loot before you take him on, since he doesn't appear until fairly close to the end of each round.

If you're seeking more powerful items, consider venturing to all secret vault locations, grabbing a TIE Fighter, and learning all weapons you can find around the island. To unlock even more content, be sure to discover and complete story quests.

Maelle Expedition 33

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 may go down as one of the best games in recent memory, and it's not just for any one reason.

It doesn't just redefine the turn-based RPG gameplay formula, or offer a star-studded cast, or just an incredible soundtrack, or just include an open world full of boss fights and discoveries, or just have an incredible and emotional storyline with unexpected twists and gut-wrenching reveals. It has all of those things, but we're here to talk about the ending of the game and discuss what happened and what it means.

Here's my interpretation and recollection of Expedition 33's harrowing, emotional ending sequences. MASSIVE SPOILER WARNING: Do not read any further unless you wish to read about the ending of the game.

Expedition 33 ending spoilers

Screenshot by Destructoid

There are multiple endings in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, but let's save that for later. First, let's discuss the game's biggest twist: the end of act two and beginning of act three shock with the reveal that the world and most of the characters of Expedition 33 are creations inside of a magical painted world known as a Canvas.

In the real world, Painters and Paintresses with painting powers can use a Canvas as portals into their own painted, created worlds that can be lived in and explored for some time, but not for too long, because it will kill them. Lumière and most of its inhabitants, including Gustave, Lune, Sciel, Monoco, and many others, are just creations within the Canvas.

The game implies the existence of other Canvases that Painters can create and manipulate, but Lumière and the game world you play in, along with the characters within it, were all made by Verso, who is the real-world counterpart of the painted Verso we know and play as.

In summary, there are light and dark versions of certain characters. Clair Obscur translates to chiaroscuro, which is "the treatment of light and shade in drawing and painting," and a large theme within the game's story.

Much of Expedition 33's story revolves around one family, their connections to the painting, and issues with each other.

Who is the Paintress in Expedition 33?

Screenshot by Destructoid

The Paintress is a woman named Aline Dessendre. She is the wife of Renoir Dessendre and mother of Alicia Dessendre, Clea Dessendre, and the deceased Verso Dessendre.

Within the Canvas, Aline and Renoir came to blows and created the Fracture, which sent Lumière into the sea, created the Monolith, and gave birth to the need for Expeditions in the first place. The Paintress's motivations in the Canvas appear to be to keep her son alive, hence giving Verso immortality within.

When the Paintress is defeated, those created within the painting all disappear, including Lune and Sciel, who only exist within the Canvas.

Who is Renoir in Expedition 33?

Screenshot by Destructoid

Like the others, Renoir (played by Andy Serkis) has two versions in Expedition 33. There's the one that players are introduced to early on (dark or "Obscur"), and then there's his real-world counterpart, who you also meet in the early events of the game, known as The Curator.

The dark or "Obscur" Renoir created by the Paintress does not paint the man in a positive light, whereas the real Renoir is "much warmer." His ambitions are to save what's left of his family, including Aline the Paintress, who has succumbed to the world she has created to deal with her grief of losing Verso.

Who is Verso in Expedition 33?

Screenshot by Destructoid

The Verso that we know in Expedition 33 is a creation by the Paintress. The real-world Verso died in a terrible fire, which also left his sister Alicia disfigured, scarred, and unable to speak. This event defines the tragic story of the game and the Dessendre family's actions. Verso's death and the grief those around him feel are the lifeblood and reasoning behind the game's events.

The real Verso created the Canvas that the game takes place in, and he used it as a place to play, paint, and imagine fictional entities like Esquie, the Gestrals, and others. Some time after his death, Aline and Renoir entered the Canvas and fought as Aline dealt with the grief of losing her son by recreating him within the painting.

Who is Maelle in Expedition 33?

Screenshot by Destructoid

Maelle is the Canvas's reborn version of Alicia, her real-world counterpart. In an attempt to retrieve her sparring mother and father from the Canvas, Alicia got stuck in the painting and was reborn as Maelle, living her own life within the painting.

After the events of Act Two, Maelle learns of her (Alicia's) memories and abilities as a Paintress, and sets out on a path to save the Canvas from Renoir destroying it for good, which he aims to do to protect his wife and family from getting lost within it.

In the end, Maelle chooses herself over her real-world counterpart Alicia, who is blamed for the tragedy that befell real Verso. She's seen as a pariah, disfigured by the fire that ruined her family, unable to speak, and generally just living a difficult existence. And so she attempts to save the Canvas and those within it by expelling her father, just like she expelled her mother, the Paintress.

Who is Clea in Expedition 33?

Screenshot by Destructoid

Clea is the sister of both Alicia and Verso, and daughter of Aline and Renoire. Clea's motivations are to help Renoir defeat Aline within the Canvas because she has been in there for such a long time, and Renoir's efforts are to rescue her. Clea created the Nevrons to help her father retrieve her mother, as the Nevrons were preventing Aline from gaining all of her Chroma back to maintain the Canvas as it stood.

Now that we know the main players of the overarching story, let's discuss how it all ends.

Expedition 33 Monolith and Paintress's Countdown, explained

Here's the best way I can describe the meaning of the Monolith and the number on it. The Paintress was using all of her power to try and prevent Renoir from expelling Aline from the canvas. The countdown on the Monolith was a warning to the people of Lumière of her waning power, as she was trying her best to hold back Renoir from "rescuing" his wife and thus ending the world. Each year, as her power lessened, Renoir was able to Gommage more and more people, and that's the meaning of the number on the Monolith.

Aline, the Paintress, was attempting to live in the Canvas forever as it contained the last remnants of her late son Verso's soul. But Renoir wished to retrieve her from within because it was killing her real body on the outside, and so they fought, creating the Fracture, and the battle continued over the decades within the Canvas.

Expedition 33: Act 3 and multiple endings explained

Screenshot by Destructoid

After the revelations to begin act three, the Expedition comes together on one final mission. Maelle, using her Paintress powers, paints Sciel and Lune back to life, and they regroup with Verso, Monoco, and Esquie to take the fight to Renoir, whose plan is to destroy the Canvas and get his family back.

Using the Chroma from defeated expeditioners before them, Maelle raises an army of them to launch an attack on Renoir and his creations in some of the most epic scenes in the game as the expeditioners battle around you while you move through Lumière.

Eventually, the group reaches Renoir. Before they battle him, he explains his stance that his family has been shattered by the tragedy of Verso dying, as Aline has lost herself in the Canvas, Clea is all by herself, and Alicia has become a ghost.

The fight begins, and Renoir enlists the help of the massive Axons from the story to aid him in his fight, but the Expedition is also aided by Aline (the Paintress), who returns to even the odds.

Screenshot by Destructoid

Renoir is defeated, and he shows what his real life on the outside is like as Aline is sick and dying from too much time spent in the Canvas, a side effect of the Painters' and Paintresses' powers to create worlds within them.

Renoir pleads with Maelle to come home, but she has chosen her life within this Canvas as opposed to her "life of loneliness in a shell of a body" in the real world. "Destroying the Canvas won't help us move on," she tells Renoir, "it'll just deny us the one place that helped us feel again."

"Since the fire, our family has crumbled," Renoir says, lamenting that he "cannot spend another day with living corpses" such as Aline and Alicia. He wishes not to lose Alicia, but Maelle explains that his feelings towards his family are exactly how she feels towards her friends within the Canvas, like the painted Verso, Sciel, Lune, Monoco, and others. She has fallen in love with this fictional world she has lived in and refuses to go back to her painful real life.

Renoir reluctantly leaves Maelle behind and returns to the real world. But there's one final stab in the gut from Expedition 33. Verso attempts to leave and put an end to the Canvas himself so that Maelle can continue living and existing in the real world, and his decades of immortality and sadness can come to an end with it.

Expedition 33: Destroy or Save the Canvas?

Screenshot by Destructoid

The players are met with a final choice. In the last battle, you must choose to play as Maelle and save the Canvas, or as Verso and destroy it. The choice is yours to make, but here's what happens in both.

If Verso destroys the Canvas, the Dessendre family returns to the real world, mourns the loss of Verso, and then moves on for good. Alicia/Maelle waves goodbye to her Canvas friends, and the credits roll.

If Maelle saves the Canvas, she goes on to re-paint all of her friends and those who were lost within the Canvas, bringing back everyone, including Gustave, Sophie, Sciel's husband Pierre, and others. They attend a concert where Verso takes the stage and plays a song on the piano when it's revealed that Alicia/Maelle is slowly degrading and dying in the real world, just like her mother before her.

Screenshot by Destructoid

In the end, there is no real "happy ending," just varying degrees of sad with a choice to be made by you on which you prefer. Destroying the Canvas allows the family to move on and properly grieve in the real world, but at the loss of everyone inside the Canvas. Saving the Canvas means Maelle gets to live a version of a peaceful life within it, but the pain and sadness of the Dessendre family persist in the outside world as Alicia/Maelle degrades and dies from using her powers to reside in the Canvas.

Once the credits roll, you can go back into the Expedition 33 world to finish out the map and complete optional quests and boss fights, or you can even begin New Game Plus.

Characters running away from creatures in Revenge of the Savage Planet

Weird and chaotic—but the good kind. Revenge of the Savage Planet crashes into your world with unapologetic oddness. But it's the good kind of weird that makes you think, "What just happened?" before you dive back in for more sci-fi co-op adventure madness.

This is the second time this year I've reviewed a debut game from a studio (Blue Prince being the other). Raccoon Logic Studios Inc. It's been a while since I've played a game that focuses so much on comedic value, offering a nice change of pace from all the high-challenge titles I've been tackling lately. This time, I'm laughing instead of sighing through stressful battles.

Cosmic Chaos: What did I get myself into?

In Revenge of the Savage Planet, you play an employee of Kindred Aerospace, heading to a new planet to explore its wonders. But while you're off in space, the greedy corporate giant Alta Interglobal swoops in and takes over. No biggie, though; you've got to roll with the punches and help with the company's not-all-bad mission to colonize space. Everything's going smoothly until, surprise, your ship gets wrecked, and Alta Interglobal fires you for good measure. But hey, it could be worse. You've still got the perks of finding lost gear and the comforts of your personal habitat. And now, with nothing left to lose, it's time to plot your revenge and get back at Alta Interglobal.

Kicking a creature in Revenge of the Savage Planet
Image via Raccoon Logic Studios Inc.

Despite being laid off, you'll get a ton of information from the Alta Interglobal video messages, with voice lines that make you feel like you've joined and escaped a cult. Interestingly, these videos mix real-life actors with the game's world. While this approach could feel out of place or like a lazy way to avoid animating characters, I honestly didn't mind it. You don't have time to question the use of real-life humans because the videos are so odd that the thought won't cross your mind. Plus, if it weren't for these videos, I don't think I would've been hooked right away. They startled me so much that I immediately started questioning what I'd gotten myself into.

When I first touched down on the new homeworld, I was genuinely impressed by the colorful, lively environment. Sure, it's a little fuzzy around the edges sometimes, but it feels like exploring a tropical paradise—if that paradise were packed with creatures that want you dead. And that's just the beginning. More planets are waiting to be discovered, each weirder than the last. Guiding you through it all is your robotic companion, Eko, who has so much personality that it makes you wonder how they're even a robot. They'll mock your choices, crack jokes about your misfortunes, and occasionally talk just a bit too much. Thankfully, if Eko starts to wear out its welcome, there's a handy little feature that lets you dial down the chatter or silence it completely if you've had enough sass for the day.

Exploring the world of Revenge of the Savage Planet
Screenshot by Destructoid

As I was tracking down lost gear, the character's walking mechanics caught my attention. It's like watching a cartoon come to life—think Scooby-Doo gang vibes, running around with exaggerated flailing, especially when stepping in goo. It adds this animated charm that's hard not to love. As you dash and stumble through the world, you'll encounter creatures that are just as odd. Some may look cute and fluffy, but don't be fooled; the most adorable ones are often the most vicious. And if you decide to kick one? Well, prepare for a gross explosion of guts filled with materials. I guess you have to get your resources somehow.

Casual exploration to absolute mayhem

Combat isn't always front and center. The game keeps things pretty chill for the most part, as long as you don't wander too close to the local creatures. But when a horde suddenly rushes you all at once, the calm flies right out the window. That's where co-op shines, whether you're teaming up online or sharing a couch with a friend. There's a special kind of thrill in coordinating attacks, backing each other up, and turning chaos into high-fives. It's all doable solo, but it feels way more exciting with a partner in crime. Getting into wild shenanigans together just makes the whole experience hit harder.

At its core, Revenge of the Savage Planet is all about collecting materials and crafting upgrades through a 3D Printer. The gadgets you create remind me of Ratchet and Clank, with a wide range of weaponry like plasma guns, water blasters, and even a whip. Each has a purpose, and using the right one at the right time is key. Slimey enemy? Splash it with water. Hardshell baddie? Whip it into shape. I love it when games give enemies specific weaknesses. Mindless shooting gets old fast, but here, your brain stays in the game.

Exploring the vast planets is a blast, whether flying solo or teaming up with a friend. I loved scanning the environment, revealing enemy weaknesses, or learning the purpose of strange resources. Sometimes, what you scan doesn't help you, but the hilariously random descriptions make it worth it. I appreciate it when a game doesn't take itself too seriously and puts in fun tidbits just for a good laugh.

Become the next hit space decorator

One of the last things I loved about Revenge of the Savage Planet is how much you can personalize everything. Not only can you customize your suit, but you can also design your entire habitat—and the build items aren't just your standard kitchen, bathroom, or basic rooms. Oh no, you get quirky stuff that matches the game's hilarious vibe, like a Hug Machine or even a High Five Machine. It made decorating so much more fun, especially when you also throw in the creature-collecting habitat. On top of that, your house has a TV that runs some of the weirdest ads I've ever seen. They're bizarre, but I couldn't stop watching them.

If you're looking for one of the wackiest space adventures around—think High on Life but a bit more PG-13—Revenge of the Savage Planet should be next on your list. With its strange creatures, offbeat humor, and colorful worlds, it offers a unique blend of chaos and charm that's hard to forget.

While going solo still brings plenty of laughs and surprises, playing in co-op takes the experience to another level. Sharing the madness with a friend makes the exploration feel less lonely and way more entertaining. After all, space is weird… but it's a lot more fun when someone's there to get slimed (or killed) with you. Everyone can join in on the fun, including crossplay and split-screen options on PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X|S.

genshin impact ifa guide

Ifa is a 4-star Anemo unit in Genshin Impact that excels as an on-field Anemo driver in Electro-Charged teams. Furthermore, he is a decent healer and is good for exploration because of his Nightsoul's Blessing ability.

Luckily, Ifa is very F2P-friendly, and building him is pretty easy since he mostly needs Elemental Mastery. You can find the best artifacts, weapons, and teams for the Saurian doctor in this article.

Best artifacts for Ifa

Viridescent Venerer

A full 4-pc set of Viridescent Venerer is the best artifact option for Ifa in Genshin Impact. This set will give him an Anemo DMG bonus and increase his Swirl DMG while also letting him shred the enemy's Elemental Resistance.

Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City

Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City is also a good option for Ifa since he can enter the Nightsoul's Blessing state to trigger all the effects on the 4-pc set. You can use this artifact to use him as a sub-DPS unit.

Gilded Dreams and Wanderer's Troupe

You can also use a combo set of Gilded Dreams and Wanderer's Troupe since both provide Elemental Mastery bonuses from their 2-pc sets.

You can prioritize the following main stats and sub-stats while farming artifacts for Ifa:

Sands Elemental Mastery or Energy Recharge
Goblet Elemental Mastery
Circlet Elemental Mastery
Sub-stats Energy Recharge, EM, ATK%, ATK

The stats will remain the same for all artifact sets.

Best weapons for Ifa

Sunny Morning Sleep-In

Sunny Morning Sleep-In is the best weapon for Ifa in Genshin Impact since it provides a ton of Elemental Mastery bonuses from both its second stat and passive effects. However, it is Mizuki's limited signature weapon, and she is a standard banner character, so it is not the most accessible Catalyst.

A Thousand Floating Dreams

A Thousand Floating Dreams is another great 5-star weapon option for Ifa. It also provides a decent amount of Elemental Mastery from its second stat. Furthermore, A Thousand Floating Dreams' passive increases the wielder's Elemental Mastery or Elemental DMG bonus depending on the party member's Elemental Type.

Sacrificial Fragments

If you don't have a good 5-star option, you can use Sacrificial Fragments. It provides a lot of Elemental Mastery bonus from the second stat. Sacrificial Fragments is a 4-star weapon that can be obtained from any banner in the game.

Mappa Mare

mappa mare is ifa's best f2p build wepaon

Mappa Mare is the best F2P weapon you can give Ifa in Genshin Impact, as it is a decent EM stat stick. It is a craftable weapon, so you can easily obtain it if you have the materials.

Ifa's talent priorities

You can level up Ifa's talents in the following order:

  • Elemental Skill = Elemental Burst > Normal Attack

Ifa's Elemental Skill and Burst level-up order is interchangeable depending on how you want to play him. If you want him as a Burst DPS unit, then go for his Burst first; otherwise, upgrade his Skill. As for his Normal Attack talent, you can ignore it.

Best teams for Ifa

ifa, ororon, furina, and nahida - best team for ifa in genshin impact

Listed below are some of the best teams for Ifa in Genshin Impact:

  • Ifa + Ororon + Furina + Nahida
  • Ifa + Ororon + Dendro Traveler + Xingqiu
  • Ifa + Ororon + Fischl + Xingqiu
  • Ifa + Mavuika + Xilonen + Furina

You're also free to use 4-star units if you don't have 5-star units, such as Pyro Traveler in Mavuika's place. There will be a notable drop in the overall damage output, but they should still work.
