Elden Ring Nightreign Remembrances are your key to unlocking loads of lore

FromSoftware's streak of creating outstanding dark fantasy RPGs is absolutely remarkable, and the deep lore and narrative threads that run throughout them are a huge part of what makes them so great. With Elden Ring Nightreign, though, I'd be understanding if narrative took a back seat. While some games like Destiny 2 have proven that you can mix online multiplayer action with brilliant storytelling, it's had years to work on its formula - for FromSoft, Nightreign is very much a first venture into this realm. However, I shouldn't have doubted the developer, because new details about Elden Ring Nightreign Remembrances show that the co-op game will feature storylines for each of its eight classes, which will be told across text-based lore, playable single-player snippets, and side objectives that you'll need to complete during multiplayer runs.

Sony blunder reveals Stellar Blade's PC launch date early

Forget all the controversy that surrounded it for a moment - Stellar Blade was one of the biggest games of last year. It was by no means a boundary-pushing project in the gameplay department, but it was a visually stunning and narratively solid action game that also flew off of the shelves. A sore spot though is that it's only been available on the PS5 - efforts to bring Stellar Blade to PC were announced a while ago, but we're still yet to see it arrive on platforms like Steam. However, the wait is almost over. Thanks to a trailer that was mistakenly uploaded to the official Playstation YouTube channel, we now know exactly when the game's PC port is dropping - and there really isn't that much longer to wait now.

Latest New Shonen Jump Manga Called Otr of the Flame

Shueisha announced its new Shonen Jump manga series is called Otr of the Flame. It can be found in English on both MangaPlus and Viz Media. Only the first chapter is available now.

Otr lives in the Forest Kingdom, which ended up under siege by the Ice Kingdom. As a result, it's basically winter all year round. He wanted to do something to help his sister Sanna and people in his community, even though he was considered too young and perhaps unsuitable to be a warrior. So he heads to the kingdom's fortress to act as a cook. The fortress captain Alajoki noticed something unusual when Otr breathed on the fire there to "help it last longer," and cautioned the boy while also assuring him he'll meet his father in Valhalla and make him proud no matter what he does. When Ice Kingdom Captain Beezbl and his forces break in, things look dire, but Otr manages to fight back and get a chance to be the hero he dreamed of by protecting the flame.

If the art or style looks familiar, it's because mangaka Yuki Kawaguchi is something of an established creator. Previously, he worked on The Hunter's Guild: Red Hood, following a 14th Gold Future Cup win. However, prior to this series, the creative previously tended to work on original one-shot series.

This is the second new Shonen Jump manga series to debut in a row. May 2025 kicked off with Magical Girl and Narco War debuting. And at the end of April 2025, Nice Prison launched. War of the Adultsand GGG also showed up for the first time in April 2025.

Otr of the Flame is now running in Shonen Jump, with the first chapter available worldwide in multiple languages. Chapter two of the series will debut on May 18, 2025.

First Love and Deepspace Nendoroid Is Xavier Figure

On May 7, 2025, the Weibo page for Love and Deepspace confirmed Infold and Good Smile Company would team up for Nendoroid figures based on the cast, and now reports and official images are coming in sharing that Xavier is the first one. So far, the only store that ships worldwide that is selling it is Aitai Kuji, as even the Japanese branch of the Good Smile Company store isn't selling him as of 12pm ET on May 12, 2025. He will apparently cost ¥7,500 (~$51) and release in October 2025 in Japan. [Thanks, Kamisatoya and Audrey Lamsam!]

Xavier is one of the three love interests that first debuted in the Love and Deepspace otome game at launch. (Sylus and Caleb appeared months later.) He's a Deepspace Hunter who works alongside the heroine. He's known for using the power of light to attack enemies, thanks to his Evol, and uses a sword in combat.

The Nendoroid of Xavier will acknowledge details about him from Love and Deepspace. Given he's always nodding off, there will be one face plate showing him asleep that can be used with an optional eyemask accessory. Another faceplate features him smiling, while a third shows him in the midst of a fight with two cuts on his face. He'll come with a sword that he can equip. Also, in a nod to the exclusive plush you can get with him when you head to the Claw Machine in-game, a Bunbun white rabbit accessory will be included for him to hold.

Here are all the initial images from Good Smile Company and Infold that appeared online so far.

It is unknown which character could appear next, as the Weibo announcement image did show all five silhouettes. The first teaser image, which you can see below, featured silhouettes of Xavier, Zayne, Rafayel, Sylus, and Caleb from left to right. So if the companies go in order and start with the first three bachelors that appeared in the game, we could see Zayne or Rafayel next.

The Xavier Love and Deepspace Nendoroid will apparently launch in October 2025 in Asia, with other figures planned after. The game is available on mobile devices.

Sentinel Shrine in Doom The Dark Ages

One of the most important aspects of Doom The Dark Ages is the upgrade part, which is key to improving your character.

As you clear more chapters, you'll unlock new weapons and additional tools for your shield. They'll make you more powerful, but you'll need to upgrade them, too. Doing so will unlock new effects, some of which are crucial for particular enemies.

This guide will help you understand the upgrade system and how to prioritize things.

How to upgrade in Doom The Dark Ages

The upgrade system of Doom The Dark Ages is fairly straightforward, but you'll need to plan carefully. You can't upgrade your weapons whenever you want. The resources required for upgrading are also finite, so you'll have to use them carefully.

To start the upgrade process, you'll have to reach something called Sentinel Shrines. These shrines are highlighted in bright green, so it's very easy to spot them. Whenever you're near a Shrine, the game will alert you to its presence.

The Sentinel Shrine allows you to upgrade your weapons, shield, and melee. You'll need Gold for upgrades, which you can find lying around the map as you explore. Certain enemies also reward you with Gold when you eliminate them.

Sentinel Shrine in Doom The Dark Ages
Screenshot by Destructoid

Based on the early hours, Gold is quite limited, so you'll have to prioritize which upgrades to do first. Open the relevant section from a Sentinel Shrine, press the Space Bar, and confirm the purchase of an upgrade. Since upgrades are irreversible, make sure to read the text carefully to ensure that you don't end up wasting your resources.

Should you upgrade your weapons, shield, or melee first?

Based on the first few chapters, this is my priority list for upgrades.

  • Shield
  • Melee
  • Weapons

As you clear the early chapters, you'll unlock more weapons. You won't want to invest in any weapon upgrades until you have a fair idea of which is your favorite. Identify the ones that suit your play style before going in for the upgrades.

Upgrades in Doom The Dark Ages
Screenshot by Destructoid

The Shield is absolutely incredible in both offense and defense, and spending heavily on them. One of my earliest upgrades allows my Saw Throws to chop through multiple shielded enemies at once. This is a perfect upgrade since shielded enemies take longer to take down. Unlike weapons, you'll be using the same shield throughout the game, and hence, any upgrades will be permanent.

The last logic also applies to your melee weapons, and they're also a safe bet for upgrades. You'll be using these weapons heavily, and getting a few early upgrades won't be a bad investment.

Effect of Demonic Essence in Doom The Dark Ages

Demonic Essence is one of the most important resources in Doom The Dark Ages, and obtaining it is crucial if you want to improve the Doom guy and take on the monsters constantly.

Unlike typical resources, Demonic Essence can only be obtained from a specific type of enemy. This resource also has a unique purpose, as it allows you to increase your maximum health and armor. This guide will help you find more Demonic Essence.

How to obtain Demonic Essence in Doom The Dark Ages

Demonic Essence comes from a special form of enemies known as Leaders. These enemies will appear as their common variants, but they're far stronger. Leaders also have unique attacks, and some of them can be pretty deadly if you don't know how to dodge or parry.

Typically, you'll come across at most one Leader in every quest, and they often tend to be the final boss battle in some cases. They're almost always surrounded by weaker enemies, which adds to the challenge. Leaders can also be of different types, so you'll have to focus on their respective weaknesses.

Leaders in Doom The Dark Ages
Screenshot by Destructoid

Defeating a Leader takes longer, so you should take care of the weaker enemies before you concentrate all your firepower on the Leader. They have a special animation once you defeat them, as the Doom guy will rip their heart out and put them out of their misery.

This heart, obtained from a Leader, is Demonic Essence. You'll get a permanent upgrade that is applicable to your maximum Health, Shield, or Ammo. Unlike Sentinel Shrine upgrades, you can't choose which area to upgrade first. This will be pre-determined, but the upgrades are a must-have to prepare for the mid and late game.

Any upgrade from Demonic Essence will be applicable as soon as you obtain it. The upgrades are also permanent, which is a nice thing to have. The upgrades will be minimal at first, but they all build up in the long run. Once you find a Leader, make sure to eliminate it to secure as much Demonic Essence as possible.

Doom the Dark Ages a demon striking down on the Slayer

Doom: The Dark Ages has several difficulty levels that cause enemies to hit harder, your parry window to decrease, and even have a one-life limit. The difficulty you pick depends entirely on your preferences, but knowing what each option entails can help make the choice a little easier.

Doom: The Dark Ages difficulty levels explained

There are two parts to Doom: The Dark Ages' difficulty levels: your initial preset choices, and modifiers you can tweak later. That way, you can stick with the game's default choices, make your current challenge slightly easier, or create a more challenging playthrough.

Below are the six default settings you can pick in Doom: The Dark Ages:

  • Aspiring Slayer
  • Hurt Me Plenty
  • Ultra-Violence
  • Nightmare
  • Pandemonium
  • Ultra-Nightmare

Doom the Dark Ages difficulty modifiers
Screenshot by Destructoid

After choosing an option, you can customize it before you start the game. You can modify your Parry Window, enable enhanced targeting and empowered attacks, and reduce the damage you and the demons take. That way, if Nightmare's default settings are still too easy or Aspiring Slayer is a little too tough, you can change them to fit your preference. This'll change their name to have an "(M*)" symbol next to the difficulty's name, indicating that you modified it in some way.

In Doom: The Dark Ages, Nightmare is considered a standard challenging difficulty with a tight parry window and aggressive enemies that hit harder. If you want to take the challenge a step further, you can switch to Ultra-Nightmare and Pandemonium for some unique modifiers.

What is Pandemonium?

Doom the Dark Ages Pandemonium difficulty
Screenshot by Destructoid

Pandemonium mode has the same Parry Window, enemy aggression, and damage modifiers as Nightmare. However, it adds a modifier that only lets you restart chapters using Life Sigils, limiting the number of times you can reset your progress or die. It isn't quite a one-life hardcore mode run, but it does encourage you to look out for Life Sigils and carefully watch your health so you don't die repeatedly.

What is Ultra Nightmare mode?

Doom the Dark Ages Ultra-Nightmare difficulty
Screenshot by Destructoid

Like Pandemonium mode, Ultra-Nightmare has the same base modifiers as Nightmare. However, Ultra-Nightmare is a hardcore mode, giving you only one life to complete Doom: The Dark Ages' entire campaign. Life Sigils will heal the Slayer, but they won't revive you or let you reset your chapter, unlike in Pandemonium. You'll also only save your progress with each chapter completion, forcing you to restart from the beginning of the chapter if you leave partway through.

How to change your difficulty level in Doom: The Dark Ages

Although Doom: The Dark Ages has some limitations with changing your difficulty, you can modify it at any point by heading into the Pause menu, navigating to Settings, and scrolling through the top bar until you find Difficulty. Here, you'll find the same modifiers from before you began your playthrough, letting you tweak your parry window and damage output to make the experience easier or more challenging, depending on your preferences.

Doom the Dark Ages difficulty change menu
Screenshot by Destructoid

There are a few limits to this. If you select Pandemonium or Ultra-Nightmare, you can't switch back to easier difficulties. Similarly, beginning with any difficulty between Aspiring Slayer and Nightmare locks you to the top four options, preventing you from attempting Pandemonium and Ultra-Nightmare halfway through the run. Aside from this, you can swap between Aspiring Slayer, Hurt Me Plenty, Ultra-Violence, and Nightmare whenever you wish.

Doom the Dark Ages chapter one secrets

Doom: The Dark Ages has numerous secrets you can collect, from lore pages that tell you more about the world around you to cute toys of various enemy types and characters in the game. The first chapter alone holds several, with more coming in later chapters.

All Chapter 1 secret and collectible locations in Doom: The Dark Ages

Doom: The Dark Ages' first chapter has six secrets you can discover, with a bonus seventh that, although it isn't tracked as a secret, holds a collectible worth picking up. Most are along the main story's linear path, with a few veering off the beaten path into hidden locations. Here's a list of every secret and collectible in Doom: The Dark Ages' first chapter:

Secret one

You'll encounter your first secret shortly after acquiring the Power Gauntlet and following its tutorial. The tutorial will teach you how to attack using this weapon, including initiating combos, before opening a ruined building's entrance along the main story's path.

Rather than climbing the wall, however, you'll need to break the planks with the purple circle using your shield to access the first secret, rewarding you with your first Life Sigil of the playthrough.

Secret two

The second secret will become available after obtaining the blue key during Doom: The Dark Ages' main story. Once you have the key and break through the green-circled planks, you'll return to a central plaza leading to the next area. Before entering here, turn left and head along the path you previously visited to find a second blue-locked gate.

Since you have the Blue Key on hand, you'll automatically open this door, revealing an Imp Toy as your first collectible and the second secret of this level.

Secret three (Hidden)

You'll find your third secret while destroying Demonic Portals during the chapter's storyline. As you travel down some ramps, pass a few runic stones, and cross a wooden bridge to this spot, you'll find a Doom Slayer Codex Page atop a cliff to collect.

Your in-game secret counter won't count this as a secret. It's easy to miss because of this, so watch your surroundings as you clear away each portal so you don't miss this one.

Secret four

Shortly after collecting the Codex Page, you'll unlock the Shredder and be close to the purple secret key. Facing the Shredder's pod, run forward and look over the cliff's edge to find a narrow path. Jumping down here will reveal another secret, letting you find a Soldier Toy as your next collectible.

You'll also spot a couple of health and armor packs here, which'll help you if you take damage from the enemy that'll spawn outside the cave's entrance. Watch out for this demon and be prepared to defeat it before climbing back up the cliff and exploring the rest of the map.

Secret five

Finding this next secret requires collecting the purple key and clearing each Demonic Portal. As you do this, the main storyline will lead you to another central area where, rather than following the quest marker, you can detour slightly to unlock a purple-locked gate and acquire another Life Sigil. If you collected a Life Sigil on your way to the fourth portal, this'll be your third for this chapter.

Secret six

This secret is a little tricky to access. You have two options: jump from the land underneath the purple key over to a cave's entrance, or stand above the cave and jump down to it.

But you can't grab this secret yet. First, you'll need to defeat the enemies that spawn in after—the explosive barrels around you will do the trick—before clearing away a barrier and claiming your prize. You'll receive a shotgun weapon skin, which you can equip by going into your Dossier, navigating to the Arsenal, and pressing the Weapon Skins button that matches your chosen platform.

Secret seven

You can find the final secret of Doom: The Dark Ages' first chapter after clearing all four Demonic Portals and heading toward the beach. Before heading to your final Point of No Return, you'll spot a wall you can climb that holds the Village of Khalim Codex Page.

Finding this last page wraps up every secret you can discover in Doom: The Dark Ages' first chapter, letting you conclude its story and move on to chapter two.

Doom the Dark Ages Slayer skin

Even in a world where demons invade your planet, there's still room for a fashion show with the Slayer and his weapons. Doom: The Dark Ages is no exception, with several options available for Doomguy's appearance, his weapon skins, and even options for newly added features.

How to change your Slayer and weapon skins in Doom: The Dark Ages

You can find options for changing Doomguy's skin by heading to Doom: The Dark Ages' title screen and choosing Extras. Here, you'll find the following skin menu options:

  • Weapon skins
  • Slayer skins
  • Atlan skins
  • Dragon skins

Doom the Dark Ages skins menu
Screenshot by Destructoid

Alternatively, if you're in the middle of a campaign chapter and recently unlocked a weapon skin, you can access your arsenal directly through the in-game pause menu. You won't be able to change anything else, but at least you can rock your new weapon skins the second you find them.

At first, your main focus will be the Slayer and his weapons. You'll find additional customization options as you unlock more features and discover secrets throughout Doom: The Dark Ages' campaign. You can also view your collectibles and milestones as you progress through your playthrough after you finish customizing Doomguy and his gear.

How to unlock more skins in Doom: The Dark Ages

Doom: The Dark Ages offers multiple ways to unlock new Slayer and weapon skins, with the list below highlighting some of your main options:

  • Purchase Doom: The Dark Ages' Premium or Collector's Edition
  • Pre-order Doom: The Dark Ages
  • Play through the game's campaign
  • Take part in special offers like the ROG RTX 5080 GPU x Doom bundle collab

Before you start your Doom: The Dark Ages playthrough, you can unlock a few skins by purchasing the game's Premium Edition and pre-ordering it. Its pre-order bonus is the Void Slayer skin, while Premium Edition offers the Divinity Skin Pack.

Occasionally, id Software and Bethesda will collaborate with other companies to create Doom bundles, such as with Asus and Nvidia for their ROG Astral GeForce RTX 5080 GPU. This option rewards you with the Legionary Skin and several other rewards limited to this deal, but comes at the cost of spending a whole lot of money.

Beyond this, the main way to unlock new skins is to play through the campaign and discover secrets. Almost every chapter has several secrets, from toy collectibles to Codex Pages. Occasionally, you'll find skins, particularly for new weapons you recently unlocked.

Expedition 33 logo

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is one of the best games in recent memory, but did you know it had a live action film adaptation in the works before it even launched to critical acclaim?

In January 2025, Variety reported how the movie was coming from Sandfall Interactive and Story Kitchen, and now that everyone has played and loved it, it's time to begin theorizing and dreaming about who in Hollywood can portray these amazing new characters.

Spoilers, ahoy! Stop reading now if you haven't finished the game. If you have, continue on to see our ideas for casting in the Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 movie.

Expedition 33 movie cast ideas

Expedition 33 cast under water
Screenshot by Destructoid

Let's cover the main players for now, as these are the main expeditioners and characters within the game's story... and keep in mind that (spoiler alert) a lot of these actors will be playing multiple versions of the same character.

Gustave - Robert Pattinson

This one is kind of on the nose, but oh well. Gustave looks so much like the actor behind The Batman, Twilight, Harry Potter, and many others, that people genuinely thought it was him in the game. It's the only choice for our film, and he would be perfect in the role.

Pattinson has come a long way from the Twilight days, and is one of the most revered and respected actors in Hollywood.

Maelle - Sadie Sink

When it comes to young redheads in Hollywood, Sadie Sink is quickly climbing the list of most-wanted actresses. Known for her roles in Stranger Things and The Whale, she will also soon join the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

She not only looks the part, but is a fantastic actress who I think would handle Maelle's extreme layered depth gracefully.

Lune - Dichen Lachman

If you don't know Dichen Lachman yet, you should, and you will. She's likely going to be nominated if not awarded for her incredible job as "Ms. Casey" in Apple TV's Severance, which just so happens to also be one of the best TV shows in recent memory.

She is perfect for Lune and just about any other role she's cast in. Buy stock in her now.

Sciel - Ella Purnell

Listen, I'm biased. I love Ella Purnell and I want her in everything. She's amazing as Lucy in Fallout, was legendary as Jinx in Arcane, and I want her to portray a character in every video game adaptation ever. And oh, she would absolutely kill it as Sciel with her dry humor and sarcasm.

I want to start a petition that Purnell has to play every big-eyed female character in video game movies and shows moving forward.

Monoco - Rich Keeble

Since our big, battle-hungry Gestral pal will most likely be CGI or animatronic in nature, he will need a voice actor, and who better than the man who brought him to life so wonderfully in the game? Rich Keeble is our guy. The same can be said for Esquie, who is voiced by Maxence Cazorla.

Verso - Henry Cavill

Verso is as important as any character in the game. He's a quiet, mysterious, calm leader of the team when he joins the roster, but with an emotional depth and power behind him that would be perfect for Cavill, who would most likely be on board as he is a huge gamer himself.

Cavill would handle Verso's brooding as well as his silliness, along with his physical prowess as a seasoned soldier who would easily handle all sorts of CGI Nevrons with ease.

Renoir - Andy Serkis

Why not have a Batman reunion? Let's bring back Andy Serkis as Renoir from his stellar performance in the game and let him cook with his real acting chops. While Serkis may be known for his mo-cap performances like in The Lord of the Rings or Planet of the Apes, this guy can act, and the casting team already got a perfect one

The Paintress - Marisa Tomei

A role as important and as delicate as The Paintress (and her real world counterpart, Aline) would be a perfect one for this Oscar winner in a cameo-like role that could be expanded upon in the movie if the writers so choose (and I hope they do).

What do you think, dear reader? Who would you cast in the Expedition 33 movie? Let us know in the comments below.

Squirrel Girl Marvel Rivals

Marvel Rivals boasts a massive roster of incredible comic book characters, and all of them are brought to life by a variety of voice actors who give them the personality they deserve.

The voice cast of Marvel Rivals is a who's who of voice acting talent, including everyone from legends like Steve Blum (Wolverine) and Yuri Lowenthal (Spider-Man), to Troy Baker (Loki) and Nolan North (Rocket Raccoon).

Some actors are so good in the role that they've become the character itself in a way, and one of those characters is Squirrel Girl. The fun-loving Doreen Green has been wonderfully brought to life by one actress who has portrayed her for several years now, and hopefully will stay in the role for a long time coming.

Squirrel Girl has been thrust into the mainstream with Marvel Rivals, where she has gained many fans for her fun voicelines such as "SQUIRREL STAMPEDE!" and "MY FRIENDS ARE HERE!" Her best friend, Tippy Toe, can be found with her at all times as she litters the battlefield with nuts as a projectile Duelist.

Here's everything there is to know about Squirrel Girl and the talented voice actor behind her.

The voice actor for Squirrel Girl in Marvel Rivals is Milana Vayntrub. The actress has been in a variety of projects in her career spanning about 30 years, but she's most known for her role in AT&T commercials as "Lily, the AT&T Girl," and as Sloane Sandburg in TV series This Is Us.

Vayntrub has appeared as Squirrel Girl's actress multiple times before, including in animated shows such as Marvel Rising: Initiation and a podcast called Marvel's Squirrel Girl: The Unbeatable Radio Show, so she has become well-ingrained in the role.

Unfortunately, Vayntrub became the target of online harassment (often sexual in nature including doctored photos) several years ago and she has largely taken a step back from her roles, including as Lily, and presence on the internet in general.

Recently, she took part in an autograph signing where all portions donated were sent to ongoing LA Fire Relief support in May 2025. According to her IMDB page, she does not have any other projects currently in the works.

Many gamers and fans of Marvel in general are hoping that if Squirrel Girl comes to the MCU in a movie or TV show that Vayntrub will portray the character as she's done such a fantastic job as Doreen's voice actor.

Vayntrub can still be found on Instagram where she does not post very often anymore.

Black Ops 6 Operator

To celebrate Military Appreciation Month, the Got Your Six event is raising funds and awareness for the Call of Duty Endowment in Black Ops 6.

And for gamers, there are free rewards to earn. The CoD Endowment Got Your Six event is taking place in the second half of May, featuring exclusive rewards to earn along the way. The event also features a new Tracer Pack bundle with proceeds going to the Endowment.

For those unaware, the CoD Endowment is a charity organization run by Activision that helps find jobs for military veterans when they return home from their deployments. Through in-game events and other direct donations, over 150,000 veterans have been placed in quality jobs since the Endowment was founded.

For 2,400 CoD Points, players can unlock two operator skins, two animated tracer blueprint weapons, an animated emblem, a calling card, a weapon charm, a spray, and a lot more, and it's all for a good cause. But if you just want some free stuff, you can get that, too.

Here's everything you can unlock for free in the Got Your Six event in BO6.

  • Weapon sticker: "Reinforced"
  • Animated emblem: "Team Rally"
  • Double XP: One hour double weapon XP token
  • Animated calling card: "Covered Sixes"
  • Spray: "Embattled"
  • Weapon charm: "Plated Pride"
  • Double XP: One hour double XP token
  • Blueprint: "All Chipped Out" animated Ames 85 blueprint

The Mastery Reward for this event is the animated Ames 85 blueprint, which features an animated camo that sports the CoD Endowment logo. The final reward is granted once the rest of the rewards have been obtained.

As of now, how to get these rewards is a mystery. It could be an XP event where you only need to play the game and earn XP to unlock rewards (like the recent Seth Rogen event), or there may be specific tasks players have to complete in-game.

Either way, make sure to unlock all of the rewards before they're gone. The Got Your Six event in BO6 and Warzone begins on May 15 and ends on May 29.

This article will be updated with more information when it becomes available on May 15.
