July 16, 2025: We checked for new Valorant codes.

What are the new Valorant codes? Everyone likes it when they get free stuff, and it's even better when it's for hugely popular multiplayer games like Valorant. However, in the case of high-profile titles such as this, there can be long gaps between giveaways, and even then, they may not be available to redeem for long.

When Riot Games does give us a few free Valorant items to redeem, they could include Gun Buddies, which you can clip onto your weapons after tinkering with Valorant crosshair codes. If you want a stylish new look to show off as you climb through the Valorant ranks, here's the latest list of codes for this highly competitive FPS game so you can get the newest freebies.

Upgrading the GPU in your gaming laptop is normally not an option, but external graphics card cases allow you to make that change, so long as you have a fast enough Thunderbolt/USB port. The new Razer Core X V2 makes that upgrade easier than ever, though you'll need to supply the graphics card yourself.

Even the most powerful options in our best gaming laptop guide can't hold a candle to the performance of a desktop graphics card, thanks to the thermal limits of most laptops, and the fact that Nvidia made its laptop RTX 5090 far less powerful than the desktop version. With external GPU enclosures (eGPUs) such as this new one from Razer, though, you can get close to true desktop gaming performance.

Intel is reportedly working on a brand new gaming CPU with a very powerful GPU built into it, potentially meaning you wouldn't need a separate graphics card to run games at decent settings – you could just use the CPU instead. According to the latest word on the tech rumor grapevine, the new Intel Nova Lake AX lineup of processors is designed to counter the latest AMD Ryzen AI Max CPUs, codenamed Strix Halo, some of which have enormously powerful integrated GPUs.

AMD has had a big advantage over Intel when it comes to integrated graphics since it bought ATi back in 2006, and we were impressed by the performance of its new Strix Halo platform when we tested it for our Asus ROG Flow Z13 review - its integrated GPU isn't far off the pace of a budget separate graphics card. If Intel can make a chip with a similarly powerful GPU, our guide to buying the best handheld could look quite different in the future, if that were an area where Intel decided to focus its efforts.

Counter-Strike surfing is a modded game mode for Valve's bomb defusal FPS in which players skate through obstacle courses by means of a Source engine physics glitch. It has a proud history dating back to 2004, when modder Charles "Mariowned" Joyce discovered that it was far more enjoyable to slide off roofs than shoot people in his custom map Killbox. So he made a new map dedicated to sliding, The Gap. Thus the greasy chute that led to Alice0 (RPS in peace) hailing CS surfing as "the esport we deserve" in 2020.

People have crafted their own versions of the mode in games like Roblox, and Proper Game Developers such as Blizzard have seemingly taken inspiration - Overwatch's Lucio is surely a love letter to the mode. Now here comes SurfsUp, a free-to-play surfing game in the Godot Engine. Released this month, it's been favourably compared to surf maps in Valve's Counter-Strike 2, and is worth a pop even if you have no prior experience of counters or striking. Also, to clarify, it has nothing to do with that licensed penguin game for Xbox 360. Stand down, Cody Maverick groupies.

The next major Sid Meier's Civilization VII update will make some fairly sizeable tweaks to Firaxis' latest, not-greatest 4X strategy sim. It'll rearrange the workings of age transitions, with a view to providing a bit more continuity between epochs and helping you finish your to-do list before crossing the threshold. We can expect a new commander, too - Trưng Nhị, sister to existing Vietnamese leader Trưng Trắc.

Perhaps most significantly, the feature will re-introduce auto-explore mechanics for scouts. This piques my interest, inasmuch as I haven't ever thought critically about auto-explore mechanics, and now that I do, I realise I regard them with a mixture of enthusiasm and spite.

You already knew hectic 1v1 bullet sprayer Straftat was going to add 2v2 matches and a four-player free-for-all mode. You knew because I told you months ago. Don't pretend you forgot. Please, it's insulting. Anyway, the update that adds these modes arrived yesterday and it also adds - surprise! - a ton of new maps. Which brings the game's total number of killing arenas to over 300. Straft THAT, other shooters.

I hesitate to call Space Warlord Organ Trading Simulator "the best organ trading sim of 2021", because Cruelty Squad also came out in 2021 and I worry about starting a localised flame war. But it means Strange Scaffold's sci-fi stockbroker sim was, at the very least, 2021's second best organ trading sim. Nice to see it's getting a sequel then, called... oh no. Space Warlord Baby Trading Simulator.

"We aren't monsters. You aren't going to be trading babies," says head of studio, Xalavier Nelson Jr. "You're going to be trading stocks based on babies, which means you can short a baby."

Put down that cursed bag of frozen curly fries and come here. I've spotted a game you might like. Co-op Kaiju Horror Cooking is essentially the four-player hangout horror of R.E.P.O but instead of ghost hunting you are collecting ingredients to feed a big monster its favourite dish.

"This isn't a place of honour," says studio head of Strange Scaffold, Xalavier Nelson Jr. "You aren't going to be making fancy Overcooked-style dishes. You will be beating a giant rat or a minotaur with a rolling pin, taking an object from their corpse, throwing it onto a grill on a beach, and then firing it into a kaiju's jaws with a catapult or a manganel." Checks out.

First Luminasta Hatsune Miku Conceptual Figure Wears a Swimsuit

Sega kicked off a new Luminasta Hatsune Miku Conceptual figure series in Japan, and the first one is based on a swimsuit design drawn by Hisen Kaede. It is a prize figure that will show up in Japanese arcades on July 18, 2025. It isn't showing up on stores worldwide yet, but other Vocaloid ones in the line are at Crunchyroll and Big Bad Toy Store. This suggests global pre-orders could open soon.

This prize figure is one of the taller ones. Hatsune Miku stands at about eight inches (21cm). She's posed standing on one foot. Both of her hands are holding her straw hat on her head. Her hair is worn in pigtails, as always. Meanwhile, her bikini is white, green, and yellow.

Here's the Hatsune Miku figure alongside the Hisen Kaede concept art to show how the initial design of the character in the figure turned ended up being adapted into actual merchandise.

This isn't the first time Hisen Kaede drew Hatsune Miku. The artist's Pixiv account features a number of designs of the Vocaloid. One of the most recent showed the character with a poppy look and appeared on July 13, 2025. The creator also drew art of Hatsune Miku for the MikuColle game

It's also the second major Luminasta figure to appear this week in Japan. A Mega Man one debuts on the same day.

The first Hatsune Miku Luminasta Conceptual series figure of her in a swimsuit debuts in Japan on July 18, 2025, and the prize figure could appear worldwide after that.

New Umamusume Tokai Teio, Mejiro McQueen and SSR Kitasan Shown

The next Umamusume: Pretty Derby banners debut on July 16, 2025, and Cygames shared what to expect from the new Mejiro McQueen and Tokai Teio Trainee character alts and SSR Kitasan Black Support Card. While the two units aren't too different from the original, even with the new outfits, skills, and growth rate bonuses, the Support Card is widely hailed to be one of the most influential ones in the game. Every player was also sent 1,500 Carats again.

The Fire at My Heels: Kitasan Black SSR Support card in Umamusume: Pretty Derby is one of two debuting in the game on this banner, and it is acclaimed even now in the Japanese version of the game due to its bonuses and skills. It's a Speed card that includes possible events that can increase the mood of your character by experiencing them so you don't need to take part in Recreation. Its Professor of Curvature skill also helps with increasing velocity on turns with a common trigger. She debuts alongside the SSR Stamina Support Card The Will to Overtake: Satono Diamond. While not as helpful as the other top Stamina card Murmuring Stream: Super Creek and its Swinging Maestro skill that recovers stamina on turns, Iron Will can recover stamina if you find yourself blocked at the beginning of a race.

Here's how both of those look:

In the case of the Trainee character alts, both of them are based on depictions of Mejiro McQueen and Tokai Teio from the anime. Both are three-stars. They also have 10% growth rates in three stats each, rather than two stats where one has 20% and another has 10%. This Mejiro is primarily a Pace Chaser initially who is best at Medium and Long races. She gets growth rate boosts in Stamina, Power, and Wit. She comes knowing the Legacy of the Strong skill. Tokai Teio is also a Pace Chaser who is best at Medium races, and her three Growth Rate areas are Speed, Stamina, and Guts. Her skill is Certain Victory.

You can see the official images for both below:

The video of the anime season 2 song "Run for Our Dream" in the Umamusume: Pretty Derby game is also live on the official YouTube channel:

The Biwa Hayahide Trainee banner and SSR Mejiro Palmer Support Card one both end today, and both join the general pool after.

Legend of Zelda Live-Action Link and Zelda Actors Shared

Following a release date delay in June 2025, Nintendo finally announced the Link and Zelda live-action actors for the upcoming Legend of Zelda movie. Shigeru Miyamoto revealed both on the company's social media account. Link will be played by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth. Meanwhile, Zelda is Bo Bragason.

Here is the statement from Miyamoto about both live-action The Legend of Zelda Link and Zelda actors. It also again confirmed the new May 2027 release date.

https://twitter.com/Nintendo/status/1945433163448336554

Given the age of both characters, it seems like we'll be looking at the teenage or younger interpretations of Link and Zelda in this movie. We don't know any other actors for characters like Ganondorf.

Both Ainsworth and Bragason are British actors. Ainsworth is best known as Mark Critch from the show Son of a Critch, though he also was the voice of Pinocchio in Disney's live-action movie. Bragason is better known for her roles in British TV shows. She played Roxy Jackson in Renegade Nell and Amy Knightly in The Jetty.

The Legend of Zelda live-action movie will show up in movie theaters on May 7, 2027, and we should learn more about additional actors in the film now that the Link and Zelda roles ended up confirmed.

Drag x Drive: Global Jam Demo Lets People Try Wheelchair Basketball

Nintendo announced Switch 2 owners will get a chance to try Drag x Drive, the 3v3 wheelchair basketball game, ahead of launch with a Global Jam demo. This will be an online event held during three sessions between August 9-10, 2025. Only people who subscribe to one of the two Nintendo Switch Online membership tiers can take part.

There will be three times to take part if you are part of NSO or the Expansion Pass tier. All someone would need to do is download the Drag x Drive Global Jam demo client from the eShop. Here's the full list.

  • August 9, 2025: 3am PT/6am ET-7am PT/10am ET
  • August 9, 2025: 5pm PT/8pm ET-9pm ET/12am ET
  • August 10, 2025: 9am PT/12pm ET-1pm PT/4pm ET

It isn't uncommon for Nintendo to hold a limited, online demo event for a title that is a multiplayer-focused one. This happened with Splatoon. Both the first and second games ended up being introduced with Global Testfire events that let people test out Turf War. Since the whole point of Drag x Drive is to go through 3v3 wheelchair basketball games, you would need that multiplayer experience to get the most out of the trial.

Drag x Drive will come to the Switch 2 on August 14, 2025, and the Global Jam demo will let Nintendo Switch Online subscribers test it out between August 9-10, 2025.

Frieren Beyond Journey's End manga will continue after early 2025 hiatus in July 2025

Shogakukan has announced that a new chapter for the Frieren: Beyond Journey's End manga will appear in the 34th issue of Weekly Shonen Sunday on July 23, 2025. This will also mark the return of the manga series after having a lengthy hiatus in the first half of 2025.

The latest chapter of the manga before this announcement was Chapter 140. Shogakukan formally published the chapter online on Sunday Webry on January 8, 2025. The last page of this chapter has a footnote stating that the series would go on a hiatus from the following manga magazine issue.

In addition, the Frieren: Beyond Journey's End section on Sunday Webry only has the first three chapters and the latest chapter available to read publicly in Japanese. Once the new Chapter 141 has appeared, the preceding Chapter 140 will no longer be available for free.

An anime adaptation of Frieren: Beyond Journey's End has also appeared, and its first season is available to watch via Crunchyroll. However, the second season is not expected to arrive until 2026. For the meantime, FuRyu is working to release miniature replicas of Frieren's staff in Japan in October 2025.

The new Chapter 141 for the Frieren: Beyond Journey's End manga will be available on July 23, 2025.

pikachu mcdonald's pokemon

Pokemon toys and cards will start appearing at McDonald's in Japan from early August 2025. The toys will be available from the 8th, while the cards will be available from the 9th to the 11th.

While you can only get a Pikachu or a Charmander toy, there are five different cards to receive at random. You can receive either a Sprigatito, a Fuecoco, a Quaxly, a Ralts, or a Riolu. Everyone will also get a Pikachu card. These cards have the McDonald's logo at the bottom right of the picture. Otherwise, they're existing cards from the TCG. The Pikachu, however, is an exclusive card that features the Pokemon looking excitedly at a burger combo. The effect is the same as the existing Pikachu card in the TCG, though.

Most of the top comments on the post express worry about scalpers who might ruin the experience for average fans or children. In 2023, the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam announced a collaboration with The Pokemon Company, with an exclusive Pikachu card available for purchase. However, the card quickly sold out, and scalpers listed it on sites like eBay with a huge markup. Some cards went for hundreds of dollars. The McDonald's Japan post did not note if it would limit purchases of Happy Meals to curb resellers from monopolizing the exclusive Pikachu card.

Two Guardians fight off some Vex in the Edge of Fate.

Destiny 2's new The Edge of Fate expansion struggled to capture fans' hearts ahead of its release, and that disinterest translated into a drastic drop in its player count. The update peaked at just under 100,000 Steam players on launch day—the worst performance for an expansion so far.

Destiny 2 boasted a peak of only 99,131 players on July 15, when the expansion released. Previous DLCs had far bigger numbers: Last year's The Final Shape had over 300,000 players at its peak, while the disastrous Lightfall also crossed that threshold in 2023. In February 2022, The Witch Queen peaked at 289,895 players, according to tracking website SteamCharts (as spotted by Forbes' Paul Tassi).

The campaign had its highlights, but the marketing for it didn't pull that many players into it. Image via Bungie

The Edge of Fate already faced an uphill battle. Player reception to the new Fate saga didn't seem as strong after a lull in content and a myriad of systemic changes, including the creation of armor and weapon tiers, bonuses to recent gear, and vague promises about the future of crafting.

Even the time-limited Rite of the Nine event largely failed to warm up the player base long-term. Inspired by the highly successful Pantheon event from Into the Light, the dungeon-based challenge gave Destiny 2 a short-lived burst of activity before it dwindled again. This could be partly attributed to how the studio communicated about the new weapon tiers, potentially creating confusion concerning the effectiveness of the event guns in The Edge of Fate's new sandbox.

The Edge of Fate's player count is a symptom of a long-embattled Bungie, facing two sets of layoffs between 2023 and 2024, plus lukewarm reception to most of the recent content and huge dissatisfaction throughout the year of The Final Shape.

Despite the dwindling player count, though, the new expansion still ranked among Steam's top sellers and gave a huge bump to the average player count for the time being. With the key changes coming with Edge of Fate, though—including the discontinuation of seasonal content as we knew it—it remains to be seen how the game will fare in the new Fate saga.

Cyberpunk 2077: V looking out at the city while leaning against a car and smoking.

Cyberpunk 2077 is getting its anticipated Update 2.3 tomorrow. While it adds some cool stuff (and opens the game up to Mac users), it's certainly not one of its biggest. What's more, this update will probably be the game's last, and what a ride it has been to get here.

On July 17, Cyberpunk 2077 is set to receive its likely final patch. Bringing over a lot of new cool features, such as Delamain auto-driving your vehicle while you take cool screenshots. The game will also drop on Mac, finally allowing Apple users to play this amazing game and what's probably the only title letting you experience the cyberpunk genre the way it's meant to be experienced.

Cyberpunk 2077: the back of Johnny Silverhand as he walks forward.
Cyberpunk 2077 probably has the best world ever created for a video game, but no amount of updates could make it feel whole. Image via CD Projekt Red/Steam.

Since 2020, CDPR has been on a path of redemption and penance, putting out update after update to make Cyberpunk 2077 as close to the intended vision as possible.

The first bunch of updates were fine, but it wasn't until Update 2.0 that everyone went, "Yep, this is what Cyberpunk 2077 was meant to be." And sure, the update revitalized the game, which, after Edgerunners and Phantom Liberty came out, gained an entirely new reputation, one centered on its quality rather than its shortcomings.

Even so, Cyberpunk 2077 remains at best "the game that could." With one of the biggest open worlds out there, one'd expect it to be packed to the brim with content and opportunities. However, outside of your usual quests and side missions, there is honestly very little to do. And you can feel, at every rundown corner and corporate plaza, that CDPR intended to have stuff there. It just isn't, and probably never will be.

With Update 2.3, we will get cool new cars, camera modes, photo mode expansions, and so on, but no amount of patching and updating will ever fill the void that is "the game that could," with lacking features, content, missions, prologue, impactful decisions, and so on.

And perhaps it's better that way. It is a testament to how developers can and will fix things if given enough time, and that games, if they aspire to be something revolutionary, simply need more time in the oven.

Cyberpunk 2, I hope, will be much better in every way, shape, and form than its predecessor and will not require either a 2.0 milestone or 2.3 update to feel whole and "as it should be," all the while its true form remains elusive and distant in some developer's head half-way across the globe, existing only as "a dream that was Cyberpunk."

All in all, it's been one hell of a ride. CDPR proved it isn't the type to give up after a failed launch (looking at you, EA and Ubisoft), and we got the best deal possible outside the fictional "real" game. It also certainly helped CDPR rethink how it approaches development, rightfully avoiding early hype for its new games.

Symboli Rudolf, as seen in Umamusume Pretty Derby.

Featuring a Career mode where managing your trainee's stats and arsenal is vital, Umamusume Pretty Derby sets itself apart as one of the most exciting gacha games on the market.

The mode's rogue-like feel and management-focused style, however, can make it specifically tricky for those new to the genre. To boost your chances of success and help your runners achieve their dreams, here's a full overview of how the Umamusume Pretty Derby career mode works, and a few must-know tips and tricks.

How the Umamusume Career Mode works

The Career mode in Umamusume Pretty Derby sees you take part in scenarios with a trainee of your choice. During it, you can alternate between training, resting, hanging out, and racing while witnessing your chosen Umamusume's storyline.

But don't go thinking all of the events here will be the same when reprising it, as although the main points of a trainee's career won't change, you can unlock new events based on your performance and RNG. At the moment of writing, only the URA Finale scenario is available as part of the game's global version.

Picking your Veteran Umamusume

The Veteran Umamusume screen in Uma Musume Pretty Derby.

Before officially starting your career, however, you must also select a duo of Veteran Umamusume and a set of Support Cards. The veterans offer initial stat boosts (and unique skills if on 3-stars or above) and can be acquired by completing careers. They also allow you to get both new skills and stat/rating increases via Sparks.

The Sparks can be triggered after each round of Inspiration and vary from 1 to 3 stars. Keep in mind that, unlike the stat sparks, which offer boosts, Skill Sparks provide you with hints. Lastly, Track, Distance, and Style Sparks offer your Umamusume rating increases. For example, in the event you trigger a Pace Chaser spark while having an A-Rank aptitude, it will be boosted to S.

About Support Cards

a Support Card set in Umamusume Pretty Derby.

You also need to pick a series of six support cards when starting a career. The first five can be freely selected from your collection, while the sixth must be borrowed from friends or picked from random draws. All cards offer unique effects and are linked to different training regimens.

Picking the regimens featuring the Umamusume starring on your cards can then allow you to unlock hints to their skills and raise their Friendship level, thus unlocking enhanced training versions and unique events. In most cases, runners benefit the most from sets featuring 3+ Speed Cards.

More on Training and all stats

Haru Urara wins a race in Umamusume Pretty Derby.

Training is the main way in which you can boost your trainee's stats in Umamusume. Each regimen spends energy and boosts their chances of failing or getting injured. You can recover energy by resting, selecting certain dialogue options, or taking your trainee to outings. To help you know what you are investing in, here's an overview of all the main stats and what they determine in Umamusume Pretty Derby:

  • Speed: As its name implies, it determines your trainee's overall/max speed.
  • Stamina: Determines endurance. If you find your runner at the back of the pack in longer races, low stamina will 9 out of 10 times be the reason.
  • Power: Boosts your Umamusume's acceleration. Vital for running styles focused on overtaking positions in the late race.
  • Guts: Determines how much stamina your chosen Unmamusume will burn in the last stretch of a race. The higher the amount, the less stamina will be spent. It's the last effective stat for the URA Finale, so performing its training is not recommended.
  • Wit: Determines your trainee's ability to trigger skills during a race, and can also affect her speed in set portions. Most importantly, the stat stops your racer from rushing, which boosts stamina consumption by over 50%.

What stats should you prioritize?

Although each Umamusume's unique strengths might cause variations, all running styles in Pretty Derby benefit the most from Speed, Stamina, and Power, in this order. If running sprints, Speed can then be your only priority. You can check out a few easy-to-train Umamusume and the best stats for them below:

  • Sakura Bakushin O: The easiest Umamusume to build via her Front Runner and Sprint focus. Can excel by investing solely in Speed.
  • Daiwa Scarlet: Her unique skill allows her to excel as a Front Runner by investing in Speed and Stamina. To learn more, take a look at our build guide.
  • Silence Suzuka: The best Front Runner for Medium races, think of her as a caffeine-infused version of Scarlet.
  • Oguri Cap: The best Late Surger in the game, can excel by investing in Speed, Stamina, and Power. Remember, investing in Speed can also net you a fair amount of the latter.

Now that you know all you need to about the game's career mode, make sure to also check out our Umamusume Pretty Derby support card tier list to get the best selection for your future champion.

This also allows players on Xbox consoles to change the timing of their system (the "New Zealand method") and play the game early. If you're on PC, you can use the following set of countdowns to keep track. This is based on the usual schedule that EA Sports follows exclusively for PC players.

Cyberpunk 2077 Balatro Treasure Hunt guide

Cyberpunk 2077's Update 2.3 drops on July 17, bringing about some technical and quality-of-life features. It is also proof that even five years later, CDPR still thinks about this game and cares enough to keep it up to date.

So, here is everything new included in Cyberpunk 2077's Update 2.3 (which is probably its last one).

A car-focused patch

A customized car in Cyberpunk 2077.
Cars are a major focus of Update 2.3. Image via CDPR

This time around, CDPR decided to focus a lot on the game's vehicular content, with the patch bringing four new cars to the game. These are the Rayfield Caliburn "Mordred," Yaiba ASM-R250 Muramasa, Yaiba ARV-Q340 Semimaru, and Chevillon Legatus 450 Aquila. These can be obtained by completing a new side job, meaning CDPR isn't done with adding proper content to this game.

You can enjoy your ride around Night City in these or any other vehicles by using the new feature called AutoDrive, with Delamain taking the wheel. While AutoDrive is active and Delamain is relatively safely driving, you can make use of the new cinematic camera, allowing you to look at Cyberpunk from a whole new angle.

Vehicle customization has also been expanded to include more cars, including bikes, allowing you to put a fresh coat of paint on your vehicle of choice.

You can now spawn 27 new characters while using the Photo Mode, switch out their outfits, change V's clothes to those saved in your wardrobe, make V look at the camera (fully and just with his/her eyes turned towards it) and control the time and weather conditions.

Cyberpunk 2077's Photo Mode was already quite extensive, and these new features are just the cherry on top that'll enable you to take the best Blade Runner-inspired noir screenshots possible.

The game is moving to Mac

Never thought a Mac'd be able to run graphics like these. Image via CD Projekt Red/Steam.

Cyberpunk 2077's Update 2.3 will mark the moment the game moves to Apple's proprietary platform. It will include integrated technologies that CDPR and Apple developed in collaboration, making the Cyberpunk 2077 experience on Mac as good as it can possibly be.

Mac users have often been left out of the gaming conversation, but this move could perhaps mark the start of something new, especially given Apple's speedy advancement of its proprietary chips and graphical technologies.

If you are unsure if your Mac can run the game, check out this official guide.

A lot of bug fixing and miscellaneous changes

As with any patch, especially for games as buggy and unpolished as Cyberpunk 2077, any given patch includes a bunch of bug fixes. These relate to potentially broken missions, main story quests, characters, graphics, and a whole lot more, and will hopefully make the game more pleasant overall.

FSR 4 is finally officially coming to the game as well, which should prove a major improvement for AMD users, particularly those sporting new RDNA 4 graphics cards.

Update 2.3 drops on July 17 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X, with the Switch 2 version to come at a later date.

To see absolutely everything included in Update 2.3, check out CDPR's own breakdown here.

A green fairy flying in front of a wooden outhouse in The Sims 4

The Nature's Calling event tasks you with performing many kinds of odd and tricky tasks in The Sims 4. One such task asks you to make and use the Wooden Throne, an item you likely aren't familiar with.

If you want to finish the final week of quests in this event, acquiring this item is a must, but the quest objectives don't tell you much about what this object is or how to obtain it. The process also requires quite a bit of work before you can actually tackle the main goal, so here's how to craft the Wooden Throne in The Sims 4.

What is the Wooden Throne in The Sims 4?

The wooden throne outhouse reward on the event rewards page in the sims 4
Screenshot by Destructoid

The Wooden Throne is an outhouse in The Sims 4. There are some other outdoor bathrooms you can find around the world, but the Wooden Throne is the only actual outhouse in the entire game. It acts like a normal toilet, which means your Sim can use it to go to the bathroom.

How to get the Wooden Throne in The Sims 4

The Wooden Throne cannot be bought from Build/Buy mode like most other items and instead must be crafted using a woodworking table. It's a tough item to make because your Sim needs to have level 10 Handiness, which is the maximum level they can reach.

How to make the Wooden Throne in The Sims 4

Screenshot by Destructoid

You can craft the Wooden Throne by selecting the option to do so under the "Craft furniture" category at any woodworking table. There are a few complex steps in this process, though, so here's a full breakdown of how to get it done.

  • Purchase a woodworking table. You can find one by searching "woodworking" in Build/Buy mode or navigating to the Creative category. With only the base game installed, you have access to just one option, which is the classic Woodworking Table. This event has a second variant, the Reclaimed Woodworking Table, which can be claimed after completing week one Nature's Calling quests. If you're behind on claiming rewards, be sure to grab them from the event page. With the Artist Studio Kit, you may also have one extra option, which is the KraftMatic Woodworking Table 2.0. All of these variants function exactly the same, so pick whichever one you like best.
  • Claim the Wooden Throne crafting recipe. Open the event page and claim this item after completing a few other week four Nature's Calling event quests, like breaking the cave open and exploring the secrets.
  • Have your Sim reach level 10 of the Handiness skill. You can use the woodworking table, repair/upgrade furniture, or read Handiness books to increase this skill. If you don't want to work on this skill, you can also set it to level 10 by entering "testingcheats on" followed by "stats.set_skill_level Major_Handiness 10."
  • Craft the Wooden Throne. Click on any woodworking table, select the "Craft furniture" option, then locate "Wooden Throne." It costs 500 Simoleons to make this item.

Once you've crafted a Wooden Throne, place it down anywhere on your home lot, click on it, and select the "Use bathroom" option. Interacting with this item after you craft it is one of the last tasks you need to get done for week four in this event.

Zelda

After quite a bit of anticipation, we finally know who will play Zelda and Link in the upcoming The Legend of Zelda movie. While many expected Hollywood stars, the pair of actors are actually pretty young and up-and-coming artists who will undoubtedly make a name for themselves with these roles.

So, here is everything you need to know about Bo Bragason (Zelda) and Evan Ainsworth (Link).

Who is Bo Bragason (Zelda)?

Zelda in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Bragson is set to star as Zelda in Nintendo's upcoming adaptation of The Legend of Zelda. Image via Nintendo

An English actress, Bo Bragason is the older of the two, born in 2004. She has a fair bit of acting experience behind her, including various television and film roles, most notably in the 2021 critically-acclaimed horror flick, Censor.

She also appeared in several BBC and Disney+ series, making her probably familiar with younger audiences, which should significantly boost the appeal of The Legend of Zelda to them.

However, what makes her particularly good for a video game adaptation role is her experience providing motion capture acting in Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV, an animated film adaptation of Final Fantasy XV developed by Square Enix's in-house CGI studio.

Though it has been a while since this role (nine years to be exact) it does give Bragason a lot of useful experience in how video games are transformed into films, which is bound to reflect in how she portrays the titular character in The Legend of Zelda.

Born Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, this English actor is a few years younger than his royal in-universe counterpart, born on Sept. 25, 2008. Like Bragason, he also has experience playing in a Disney show, making him a recognizable face among younger audiences. Other than that, he also has some horror experience, most notably in The Haunting of Bly Manor an anthological sequel to The Haunting of Hill House, produced by Netflix.

Evans also provided voice work for the titular character in Disney's live-action Pinocchio, while his performance in Son of a Critch netted him award nominations at the Canadian Screen Awards.

While only 16 at the time of writing, Evans has proven himself a capable actor who will likely add a lot of depth to the otherwise silent protagonist of The Legend of Zelda, Link.

The starting of a game in College Football 26

College Football 26's coaches come with different Archetypes, and making the correct choice will increase your chances of success in Dynasty Mode.

Archetypes were one of my favorite concepts from last year's game. Instead of feeling generic, the backstories added personalities to your coach. Moreover, these weren't just cosmetic gimmicks; instead, your coach's backstory came with its own set of pros and cons. Let's take a look at what the best possible choice is for your Dynasty.

All College Football 26 Coach Archetypes

Like last year, there are three different base Archetypes, aka Coach Backstory. Here's what they read like based on their official in-game descriptions.

  • Motivator: "Get your players to play their best by boosting their ratings and composure. Nobody has it better than us!"
  • Recruiter: "Jimmys and Joes, not Xs and Os. You scout faster and recruit better than any other type of coach."
  • Tactician: "Boosts your player's ratings on gameday. Scheme up the big plays and let the visor fly."

The three primary coach archetypes in College Football 26
Screenshot by Destructoid

Which is the best College Football 26 Coach Archetype?

All three Archetypes are pretty good, but one of them has more uses: the Recruiter Archetype. This Archetype allows you to get quicker at scouting, which enables you to uncover the hidden gems faster than your competitors. This will allow you to improve your roster more easily, making the road to a championship shorter.

Not every team in Dynasty Mode is elite. In fact, there are way more 2-star and 3-star rated schools than 4-star and 5-star. Even schools rated at 4-star can be a hard challenge if you play on higher in-game difficulties. Unless you're starting with a fully stacked school, chances are that you'll need to improve your roster pretty fast.

With new Dealbreakers implemented in College Football 26, recruitment is undoubtedly more complex than what it used to be. Therefore it's better to go with the Recruiter Archetype. Motivator is a good choice if you've picked an elite school program. Tactician primarily works well with squads that might not be elite, but aren't too far from that position. The boost to ratings on gamedays will allow your athletes to perform over their potential, and get some unlikely wins on route to a championship.

The Divide in the Cosmodrome, where the Guardian was resurrected.

Destiny 2's The Edge of Fate kicked off with a set of seasonal challenges, and one of them sends you looking for data pads scattered around three maps in the new Solo Ops playlist.

The Solo Ops Data Pad Search challenge seems to kickstart a set of objectives in the new playlist, with other secrets hidden in Empire Hunts, Strikes, and Exotic missions as part of the seasonal challenges. Here's how you can complete the first objective on this list.

Three locations are required to complete the Solo Ops Data Pad Search Part One challenge:

  • Skywatch (Cosmodrome)
  • The Salt Mines (EDZ)
  • Caldera (Kepler)

More of those scavenger hunt-esque objectives will likely appear in the following weeks, taking players through other locations in the playlist.

The data pads spawn even in the lowest difficulties, in our experience, so don't worry about buffing your enemies to complete this seasonal objective. Here's where you can find each of them.

Destiny 2 Mattermorph

Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate's new location Kepler is full of secrets and discoveries to be made, including an all-new race of humans known as Aionians.

There are several red chests around Kepler that you cannot open right away and require certain abilities so that you can reap the rewards within. Some are tied to Matterspark, others are tied to the Rosetta ability that lets you decipher the language of the Aionians, and others are tied to the Relocator ability.

Another type of chest, though, says it "requires undiscovered technology." This technology is known as Mattermorph, and it's just another that you need to be able to explore and discover all that Kepler has to offer.

Here's how to get Mattermorph, one of the new destination abilities on Kepler in The Edge of Fate.

How to unlock Mattermorph in Destiny 2 Edge of Fate

Mattermorph quest in Destiny 2 Edge of Fate

Mattermorph is unlocked during the campaign of The Edge of Fate, specifically at step 19 of 31 in the main quest line. It can be unlocked during the The Outer Steppes Strangelet quest, in the mission named Morphology.

Mattermorph basically allows the Guardian to shape pre-selected parts of the environment to create new pathways and reach previously unreachable areas. It also allows you to unlock Mattermorph chests, which are red chests that have the weird, gross, bulbous growths on them.

The game describes this as "bending matter into new positions" but really, you're just picking stuff up to manipulate them for your benefit. At times, it's reminiscent of building ramps in Fortnite, but there are several applications to be used.

Screenshot by Destructoid

You can pick up Mattermorph and then use it on nearby areas of the environment that have a light white glow to them and reach new areas or find secrets.

A minecraft character standing surrounded by lava holding a black and red disc in miencraft

The Minecraft Movie has quite a lot of iconic moments, but by far one of the most memorable ones is Jack Black's ridiculously catchy "Steve's Lava Chicken" song. If you've ever wanted to have this tune playing in your home, now you can, thanks to the Lava Chicken music disc.

Music discs are some of the toughest items to acquire in Minecraft since each one has its own special unlocking process. This is one of the trickier ones to get, but it's much easier once you know what's required, so here's how to get the Lava Chicken music disc in Minecraft.

How to get Steve's Lava Chicken music disc in Minecraft

A baby zombie riding a chicken in minecraft
Screenshot by Destructoid

The Lava Chicken music disc drops when you kill a Chicken Jockey in Minecraft. This is a reference to one of the most iconic scenes from A Minecraft Movie, which is when Jack Black's character Steve warns Jason Momoa's character Garrett "The Garbage Man" Garrison that a Chicken Jocket is coming towards him. It's less about what he says, as the quote is simply "Chicken Jockey!," and more about the way he says it.

To acquire this item, make sure you kill the Baby Zombie that's riding the Chicken rather than the Chicken itself. Killing the Chicken first changes the Baby Zombie into a regular mob rather than a Chicken Jockey, so you must target the rider rather than the mount if you want to earn this item.

Some items have multiple ways you can earn them, but this isn't one of them. Finding and eliminating a Chicken Jockey is the only way to get this item, so if you want to add this disc to your collection, you need to get to work tracking one down.

How to find a Chicken Jockey in Minecraft

Chicken Jockeys can randomly be found around the world in Minecraft. Like most other mobs, there's not really any way to make finding them easier. Instead, you just have to explore and hope you come across one.

  • In Java Edition, Chicken Jockeys can spawn naturally just about anywhere in the world.
  • In Bedrock Edition, Chicken Jockeys don't spawn naturally, but Baby Zombies may sometimes choose to mount nearby Chickens.

If you're not having any luck finding a naturally spawned Chicken Jockey, you can also cheat to summon one. Open the chat box and use the following commands to force one to spawn near you.

  • On Java Edition, you can cheat to summon a Chicken Jockey by using the following command:

    • /summon chicken ~ ~ ~ {Passengers:[{id:zombie,IsBaby:1}]}

  • On Bedrock Edition, the process is a bit more complex, as you have to enter two commands in a row to spawn a Chicken Jockey:

    • /summon chicken
    • /ride @e[type=chicken,c=1] summon_rider zombie minecraft:as_baby

What does the Lava Chicken music disc sound like in Minecraft?

The Lava Chicken music disc is essentially a music-only extended version of the "Steve's Lava Chicken" song Jack Black sings in A Minecraft Movie. Since A Minecraft Movie isn't a musical, the original song is only about 50 seconds long. In Minecraft, about the first 50 seconds are the beat he sings to, then the rest of the disc essentially extends upon the base of this song.

Finding the best pet in Pet Tower Defense largely depends on which stage of the game you're in. For example a base version Electro Dragon is better than a Golem early until you get the King Trait on the Golem for an extra placement and suddenly the Golem is stronger. Also note that you're always rolling for all units, the banners just increase the chances for featured units. Lets analyze all units and find the best pets in our Pet Tower Defense tier list.

All Pets in Pet Tower Defense Ranked

pet tower defense tier list

I'll be assuming Level 50 for all unit rankings as well as both progression and tournament performance. With this in mind some units will be better for progression since they're faster/cheaper to place while others are better for the Tournament since they're slower but stronger long-term. Either way, the best units in Pet Tower Defense are in S and A-Tiers but you can read more about each unit below.

Disclaimer: Note that units from S to C Tier are all good and have their uses for progression and Tournament. For example, C-Tier is not objectively worse than B in all scenarios, Minigunner of course has a better DPS than Chicken in Tournament but Chicken is a better starter, better for progression and amazing for beginners as a boss-killer so I put it higher symbolically. Only D-Tier units completely suck here.

I'll update this when the new secret unit comes out soon.

S-Tier Pets

pet tower defense wizard monkey secret unit
Screenshot by Destructoid

Pet Ranking Notes

Wizard Monkey
Secret
10.000 Placement Cost
• Objectively the strongest and highest DPS unit in Pet Tower Defense right now until the second Secret comes out soon and then we'll see
• Reaches upwards of a 100k damage with 0.7s attack speed or better with good Stat rolls and the King Trait
• Massive damage and incredibly fast attack speed potential
• Must-have for reaching Levels 250+ on Tournament

Electro Dragon
Mythic
1.600 Placement Cost
• The best base version Mythic in the game
• Has chaining attacks for controlling crowds
• Cheapest Mythic to place and upgrade
• Great DPS potential with A to S stat rolls and the King trait
• Becomes a bit weaker in terms of DPS than Golem and RPG Tiger when they get the King trait

Money Cat
Legendary
850 Placement Cost
• Best economy unit in the game
• Must-have unit for Tournament and also incredibly good for progression
• That 450 starting cash upgrades and ramps up quick to allow you to place Wizard Monkey or Mythics fast
• Include it in any team

RPG Tiger
Mythic
2.000 Placement Cost
• The base version is slightly below Electro Dragon
• Surpasses Electro Dragon in DPS once you get the King trait on it and some good A to S stats

A-Tier Pets

Pet Ranking Notes

Golem
Mythic
2.000 Placement Cost
• Starts out as the weakest Mythic since it's slow and has the lowest placement
• Still has higher DPS as a single unit than RPG Tiger and Electro Dragon
• However, as soon as you get the King Trait on for extra placement and some good A to S stats it makes a huge difference and Golem becomes the best Mythic

Grenadier Racoon
Legendary
750 Placement Cost
• The best DPS starter in the game in terms of Legendaries, Mythics and Secrets
• Extremely good for progression, general early game and carries you through the early waves of the Tournament

B-Tier Pets

Pet Ranking Notes

Dragon
Legendary
1.200 Placement Cost
• The best Legendary in terms of DPS but it's slow to get going
• Reaches full potential on Tournament where it beats Grenadier Racoon and Minigunner
• Grenadier Racoon is still a bit faster early

Chicken
Epic
750 Placement Cost
• The beginner unit that deals great boss-killing damage for progression
• Stacking up the eggs and firing them deals great single target burst damage
• Cheap and great to place as a starter

Banker Dog
Epic
500 Placement Cost
• The other economy unit that you should use if you don't have Money Cat

C-Tier Pets

Pet Ranking Notes

Minigunner
Legendary
900 Placement Cost
• Minigunner has better damage than Chicken and Knight Cat but is overall slower
• Still, he's better on Tournament if you don't have Dragon or better DPS units

Knight Cat
Epic
750 Placement Cost
• Quite a decent starter and early game carry for beginners

D-Tier Pets

Pet Ranking Notes

Units You Should Replace ASAP
• These are underpowered units that you'll most likely use as a beginner but you should replace them as soon as you get higher tier units

That's it for my Pet Tower Defense tier list and guide. Check out our Pet Tower Defense codes for free goodies as we constantly update them with new ones.

Destiny 2 Edge of Fate Ikora

Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate is a new direction for the looter shooter game, in more ways than one.

The 2025 expansion for Bungie's FPS brings the fight to a new location called Kepler with a new NPC named Lodi, and it seems to deal with weird space-and-time travel and The Nine. But that's not all that's different.

Upon booting up the DLC for the first time, players quickly noticed that Warlock Vanguard and Destiny 2 mainstay Ikora Rey sounds a lot different this time around, sparking speculation about whether or not the actress behind the character was recast.

Here's everything we know so far about Ikora's voice actress in Destiny 2.

Does Ikora Rey have a new voice actor in Edge of Fate?

Screenshot by Destructoid

Yes, Ikora Rey's voice actor is no longer Mara Junot in The Edge of Fate. Junot has played Ikora Rey in Destiny 2 since 2021, when she took over for the character's original actress, Gina Torres. It appears that a casting change has happened once again.

Several voice overs in Destiny 2 have been changed or missing entirely thanks to the recent 2024-2025 SAG-AFTRA strike. Mara Junot recently posted on her Twitter/X account celebrating that the strike had come to an end, but Ikora's voicelines were likely recorded months ago, so it appears that Wilson took up the mantle in the meantime.

https://twitter.com/MaraJunot/status/1945270644347744297

However, there is good news. Now that the strike is over, Junot and other Destiny 2 voice actors will be returning as their voice lines will be patched into the game in a future update.

Who is Ikora's new voice actor in Destiny 2 Edge of Fate?

While unconfirmed, it sounds a lot like Ikora's new actress is Debra Wilson. Wilson is well known for her performances on MadTV but also in video games, including as Prava in Diablo IV, Amanda Waller in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, and Doctor in Death Stranding 2, but most players will recognize her voice as the same actress for Savathûn in Destiny 2: The Witch Queen.

Master Sword in The Legend of Zelda

Nintendo has officially revealed the two actors who will be playing both Link and Zelda in its live-action The Legend of Zelda movie, as if out of nowhere, and both actors are relative unknowns for such a big title.

The actress Bo Bragason will be playing Zelda, while the character Link will be played by Benjamin Ainsworth. Bo is best known for her roles on Renegade Neil and the recent TV series King and Conqueror, while Benjamin has appeared as the voice of Pinocchio in Disney's 2022 live-action remake, as well as appearing in the TV show Son of a Critch.

But it is Bo Bragason who, surprisingly, has some minor experience working in video games already. She did 3D scan model work for Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV back in 2016 as Young Luna, according to her IMDb page.

https://twitter.com/Nintendo/status/1945433161124688335

Outside of these two cast announcements, most of the other information surrounding the project is unknown. Though we do now have a release date for the movie of May 7, 2027. More details on the cast will likely appear over time, but looking at social media, both picks have been well received by the Nintendo community, and they look forward to more details appearing over time.

Most of the story is also unconfirmed, though with the release date being so far away, we don't expect to get some initial teaser trailer until late next year, when most of the filming has likely been completed. There are also other gaming movies to look forward to from Nintendo as well, with a sequel to the Super Mario Bros. movie in the pipeline, and a Donkey Kong movie reportedly in the works from Universal, too.

What do you think of the casting? Let us know in the comments down below as well as your picks for who you'd like to see attached to other characters from the series, like Impa and Ganondorf.

Placing a scanner in Fortnite

Many quests you'll come across in Fortnite are scavenger hunts that send you all around the vast island. One of the trickier ones you'll encounter asks you to set up scanners to form a warning perimeter.

This is a tough task to get done since there are quite a few spots you need to visit and a lot of traveling you must do to find them. Although this one can be a bit difficult to navigate, the XP you get for finishing it is worth the effort, so here's how to set up scanners to form a warning perimeter in Fortnite.

To set up scanners to form a warning perimeter during The Fall of Supernova Academy quests, you need to visit five locations around the island and place a scanner at each one. All of the spots you need to visit are situated around the center of the island in a circular formation, so traveling around to all of them takes quite a bit of time.

It's fairly tough to get this task done in just one round, even if you start with it right away. Luckily, your progress is saved between rounds, so you can work on this quest as many times as it takes to travel to all of the required locations.

At each location, look for the white diamond icon and a sparkling outline of a scanner to find the right spot to set the equipment up. Approach this spot and interact with it to place a scanner, then set out to the next spot to progress through this quest. The toughest part about this task is finding the right spots to place the scanners since they're all fairly random and very spread out across the map.

You can visit these locations in any order, but all five must have a scanner placed before you can progress to the next quest in this series. All of the locations you need to venture to are as follows.

  • Near the north end of Shiny Shafts.
  • Northeast of Canyon Crossing near the parking lot.
  • Northeast of Demon's Domain on a hill near the flower fields.
  • North of Shining Span and a BURD To Go gas station near some geysers.
  • Near the road northwest of Supernova Academy.

If you're hoping to get this task done in just one match, heading to one of these five spots straight from the battle bus is crucial. After placing your first scanner, work your way around the island in a circle, hitting each location along the way, to get all five scanners down as fast as possible. It's a good idea to grab a car or a useful traversal item like the Surf Cube or Bass Boost to make getting around quickly an easier task.

There are plenty of other tasks to tackle around the island once you're done with this one. If you're not sure what to do next, you might want to become Superman, hit hero practice targets at different hero training outposts, and assemble surveillance gear at Demon's Domain.

Reviews for Donkey Kong Bananza are rolling in now, and it looks like Nintendo has another winner for its vast library and is one of the must-have titles to have as a Switch 2 owner.

It's currently received positive reviews across all critique sites, with it sitting in the 90s on Metacritic, making it one of Nintendo's rated games and potentially a Game of the Year contender, but that doesn't mean it is flawless.

But what are the critics saying about it? Well, let's give you a quick run-down.

Donkey Kong Bananza is Nintendo at its best, offering tons of exploration, hours of gameplay, and a touching story that will pull at your heartstrings. While some aspects of the game can be tedious, they are quickly overshadowed by an amazing visual game that is as fun to play as it looks. You'll be punching your way through this world in no time to take full advantage of the destruction mechanics and utilizing DK's new abilities to explore every nook and cranny of this amazing world. Don't miss out on this game, it's a must have for any Switch 2 owner.

We at Destructoid absolutely loved the game, but felt it still had some small pet peeves that denied it a perfect score. It has hours of gameplay, a vast post-game, and a lot more things to enjoy. Consider picking it up!

Donkey Kong Bananza is a constant series of pleasant surprises and shows exactly what the Switch 2 can handle.

As for our friends over at Siliconera, they agreed that the game was a wild ride, even with some performance issues chugging it along.

The leader of the bunch is finally back to kick some tail in Donkey Kong Bananza, a brilliant successor to Super Mario Odyssey and a smashing return for a classic Nintendo character. It was a bold choice to build the Switch 2's first 3D platformer around Donkey Kong instead of Mario, but it's proven to be the best decision Nintendo could've made.

IGN is equally singing the game's praises with a perfect score, highlighting it as a groundbreaking 3D platformer.

Donkey Kong Bananza is an almighty re-introduction to the world of 3D platforming for DK, and arguably the Switch 2's first absolute must-play. The punching and crashing is a passing novelty that, once you get your fill, quickly becomes just another way of exploring the wonderfully varied and beautifully presented layers.

There is more good news from Nintendolife, who continue the trend of positivity, saying there's a wonderful variety and a sense of adventure, but it does have its odd performance hiccup.

Falling slightly short of Odyssey's genius, Donkey Kong Bananza is still a thoroughly entertaining Switch 2 platformer, with a heartfelt story, and DK's most memorable adventure in years.

As for VGC, the team feels like it falls short of Odyssey, but is still a satisfying platformer to get behind.

A brilliant core mechanic and clever design twists make Bananza a delightfully sticky 3D platform adventure topped off with a sweet central character relationship.

And lastly, from Eurogamer, who had one of the lower scores at 80, the team praised the interaction between the characters but felt like it occasionally gets a bit lost.

Outside of critics, though, we'd love to hear your thoughts below on what you thought of the game when you have a chance to play it. Let us know in the comments below if you had a blast or any issues.
