For anyone that's played a MOBA for more than a couple of months, their individual maps become ingrained in your memory. You could navigate Dota 2's battleground or the Summoner's Rift in League of Legends with your eyes closed. While some other MOBAs push the boat out with multiple maps or limited-time modes that introduce some twists, the familiarity and rigidity of the arenas is a core competitive tenet of the genre. Looking to spice things up, Predecessor is now ripping up that golden rule. Born out of Epic's failed Paragon and still trucking on more than three years after release, Predecessor's next update introduces World Shift, a new mechanic that will alter its map in the middle of a match.

Intel's chief financial officer, David Zinsner, has made a rare confession, admitting that Intel "kind of fumbled the football on the desktop side," when referring to the company's current Arrow Lake gaming CPUs at the Deutsche Bank 2025 Technology Conference. The admission comes as AMD swallows Intel's desktop CPU market share at an alarming rate, but Zinsner says he's confident that forthcoming Intel Nova Lake CPUs will address this situation.

AMD is currently giving Intel a hard time on our best gaming CPU guide, where we currently don't recommend any of Intel's new Arrow Lake CPUs. In the benchmarks for my Core Ultra 7 265K review, I found a chip that did a good job of addressing the high temperatures and power draw of Intel's previous Raptor Lake chips, but which struggled to keep up with Intel's older CPUs, let alone the latest AMD CPUs with 3D V-cache, in games, and in some cases the performance drop-off was huge. My recent tests of the same chip in our Alienware Aurora R16 review show that AMD's X3D chips still have the edge here as well.

AMD could be about to release a new variant of its Radeon RX 9070 range that, if it's priced right, might give gamers a new mid-range gaming GPU champion, hints a new rumor. The AMD Radeon RX 9070 GRE 16GB is rumored to be a new 16GB variant of the existing RX 9070 GRE 12GB that would ensure this otherwise cut-down RX 9070 variant has plenty of VRAM breathing room for future game support. Quite aside from this being an unconfirmed rumor, there is a catch, though.

The RX 9070 range is AMD's current top-of-the-line GPU series, with the RX 9070 XT leading the pack, followed by the RX 9070. The existing RX 9070 GRE 12GB is a slightly feature-reduced version that is still more powerful than the RX 9060 XT 16GB. Several of these existing models have impressed us enough to earn a spot on our best graphics card guide, but a new variant that sits between the RX 9060 XT 16GB and the RX 9070 would be a welcome addition.

League of Legends has a long old history with third-party applications. I remember the days of Curse Voice, before Riot eventually went on to develop League's in-client voice chat system. As time's gone on, these external services became more sophisticated, feeding you all the information you could ever need to dominate the Rift. The long-running point of contention here has been the advantage players get for using the likes of Porofessor and Blitz over those who don't, creating an environment where it was almost a necessity to download a tool to ensure parity. With the latest LoL patch, 25.17, Riot sought to level the playing field by introducing native jungle timers. However, its own iteration of the feature appears to have overshot the mark.

If the mountain-sized cop in Militsioner were just a massive looking glass in the sky, registering your every motion or infraction with sterile exactness, that would be fine. First 4 Figures Persona 5 Oracle Can Include LED Necronomicon

First 4 Figures announced it will release a figure of Futaba "Oracle" Sakura from Persona 5 and she can come with LED goggles or an LED Necronomicon Persona depending on which edition someone gets. The standard version is most basic, and the exclusive and definitive versions add in LED options. All three are expected to launch in Q3 2026.

For this First 4 Figures version of Oracle, she's in her Phantom Thieves outfit from Persona 5. The figure has her sitting on a black and white star with others around her. She is making a peace sign with her left hand, and her goggles are on her head so we can see her face and eyes. If someone gets the exclusive edition, then tapping the sensor button her belly will make her goggles glow due to the LEDs. The definitive edition has a different base that features every Phantom Thief mask set into it, and Oracle is sitting on one of her Persona Necronomicon's tentacles instead of the other base. There is LED lighting in her goggles, behind the masks, and from her Persona for that one.

Here's a list of links to all three versions of the figure. Note there is a temporary sale in effect for 30 days until September 28, 2025.

Here's a full gallery showing the base version, then the exclusive edition, and finally the definitive one.

All three are also highlighted in an official trailer.

This is one of many recent pieces of Persona 5 merchandise to appear. There are is a scale and step counters collection headed to Japan. Bandai Namco gashapon machines will also feature keychains of characters from the game with their Personas.

First 4 Figures will release the standard, exclusive, and definitive versions of Futaba "Oracle" Sakura in Q3 2026. The original game launched on the PS3 and PS4, and the Royal release appeared on the PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.

Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra 4v4 MOBA Releases in September game

Bandai Namco announced the release date for Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra, a 4v4 competitive MOBA game for consoles, PCs, and mobile. It will debut on September 9, 2025. Pre-registration is open, and there are five possible rewards if certain tiers are hit.

Like many MOBA games, Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra features characters tied to different specialties like Damage, Tank, and Technical. Your goal is to take over territory, fight enemy characters, and get the Dragon Balls. Both heroes and villains from the series appear. During early tests, it was known as Dragon Ball Project Multi.

Here's the latest Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra trailer. It's a purely cinematic one, so no gameplay is covered.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ojhY1xAAQyc

As for the pre-registration bonuses, here's what all players might end up getting if tiers are hit:

  • 100,000: 3,000 Zeni

  • 1,000,000: A Goku Stamp
  • 2,000,000: 7 SG-Capsules

Here's the image to go with that:

The Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra MOBA will come to the PS4, PS5, Switch, PC, and mobile devices on September 9, 2025.

AmiAmi Won't Cancel US Orders Due to De Minimis Exemption Ending

AmiAmi issued a statement on its English main page going over how it will handle the end of the De Minimis Exemption due to President Donald Trump's executive order and tariffs, especially as Japan Post suspended most shipments as a result of it. It said that it won't cancel orders, and will instead hold them in its warehouse until a time when it can be shipped.

The AmiAmi English branch also offered three types of updates depending on shipment status. If someone paid and their order didn't ship out in time before the suspension, it is on hold, at the warehouse, and could be canceled. If someone hasn't paid, AmiAmi isn't taking payments for these US shipments that are in limbo due to the executive order yet. It said it will only invoice once it finds a way to ship items. It also said it is investigating "non-postal shipping options." It directed shoppers experiencing issues or who may want to cancel to submit support requests.

This is one of multiple retailers that shared an update on US mail and package shipments as a result of Trump ending De Minimis Exemption and his tariffs situation. Good Smile Company, Hobby Link Japan, and Tokyo Otaku Mode are among stores that are suspending shipments. VGP isn't, but said to expect delays.

De Minimis Exemption is now ended, and it is unknown when Japan Post, DHL, and other shipments to the US will resume as a result of it. The AmiAmi English site will issue updates in the future.

Genshin Impact Luna I Version 6.0

As expected, the 6.0 Genshin Impact update will launch on September 10, 2025, however it will be called Version Luna I. That will feature three new characters, introduce a recurring event that will let you get up to four Stella Fortuna for five-stars each year, and pick a five-star and get items needed to boost them to level 60. The new Archon Quest also begins as we head to Nod-Krai, and a number of events will appear. There are also multiple trailers going over the update and region. It's also possible to preregister for the update.

When the update arrives on September 10, 2025, we'll immediately get to start the Archon Quest called "A Dance of Snowy Tides and Hoarfrost Groves" in the Isle of Cold Moonlight area. That's also when banners for the five-star Dendro character Lauma and returning five-star Dendro character Nahida appear. The second phase will include the Electro five-star Flins, new four-star Hydro unit Aino, and returning Hydro five-star Yelan. Key art of a stylized battle where the player character attacks a monster.

Believe it or not, you've made it to another Friday. What awaits ahead is two days of rest and respite, and, of course, a lot of gaming.

If you're like me, gaming is as much relaxation as it is frustration, so let's see what good ol' games you'll be playing this weekend.

World of War Thunder Tanks

New Tier XI tanks coming to World of Tanks 2.0
World of Tanks is my passion. Screenshot via Wargaming

Okay, I know what you're thinking: "Oh, he has too much time and money on his hands to grind away for digital tanks on his screen!" And I wish you were right, but it's simply a matter of addiction, a newly discovered one at that.

While I have been returning to World of Tanks on numerous occasions over the past 12 years or so, it's still admittedly an addictive reignition every time I do. A new event happens, lots of bonuses are tacked on, and grinding is suddenly not so bad, with unlocks dropping left and right as you strive to rush an entire nation's tech tree. And the gameplay itself is so fun and quick, so you can understand why I get hooked on it so easily.

But War Thunder has never been my cup of tea. Whereas I can fire up WoT at any point and have loads of fun, War Thunder always seemed a massive hill to be climbed and conquered with excruciating effort. And after playing it for a couple of days, alone and with friends—that assumption and perception was absolutely correct.

Which doesn't mean the game is not fun, but it's certainly much more of a chore than WoT could ever be, which, I guess, is the point.

So, yeah, I'll be feeding into my addictions with War Thunder and World of Tanks these next few days until my hype runs out, while the in-between should be packed with, uh, something that I'm not at liberty to say. Oh, and Baldur's Gate 3. Lots and lots of Baldur's Gate 3.

What the team's got cooking

A table of Chess
Chess is an awesome game, or so Luci tells me. Image via Destructoid

This weekend is a wild one, as our folk are trying out games way beyond their comfort zone (except for Luci, who is going to stick to chess for the umpteenth weekend in a row, not that he plays anything else).

So, while our resident FIDE-certified master of the board is grinding away to increase his Elo rating, the rest of the crew are hopping into indies and AAAs alike. Scott Duwe is going to play Hello Kitty Island Adventure with his better half. And hey, who knows, perhaps this game has something to offer to a hardcore first-person shooter connoisseur such as our good pal Scott.

Bhernardo Viana is also pursuing stuff he sucks at, such as Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising, a fighting game which he says he doesn't do very well in. Being a fan of Granblue Fantasy: Relink, he already has a lot of love for the series' characters, and aims to perhaps try out Rising's story mode to immerse himself more in the world.

Madison Benson is keeping it simple. Minecraft will mark her weekend, as there's a strong tradition of friends getting together to fire up a new survival server and play until they get bored. If not Mojang's little game, she will be indulging in Schedule 1, as the game has recently received a major patch, the one adding cartels, so there's lots to see, lots to do.

Lastly, our editor-in-chief Rachel Samples is finally going to try out Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, arguably the best RPG of this year. Additionally, she got herself a fun little game called Herdling, which by the looks of it is actually pretty awesome, and something I'm now inclined to try out myself.

But enough about our big squad over here. What matters, as always, are you, our readers. So, pray tell, whatcha gonna be playin' this weekend? Anything new, good, old, bad?

Whatever it is, do have a wonderfully amazing weekend from all of us at Destructoid.

Croagunk using double team in Pokken Tournament DX

Mega Hawlucha, Vicrtreebel, and Dragonite look great on Pokémon Legends: Z-A, but I'm sure they would look way, way better on a new Pokkén Tournament. It's been 10 years since this fighting game's release, and I still see it as one of the most overlooked and underrated Pokémon titles.

Pokkén takes in Mega Evolutions perfectly. The more punches, throws, and combos your Pokémon lands, the more Mega energy they gather, until they have enough to evolve. The Mega state makes them faster, stronger, and enables them to use their strongest special attack, called a Burst move. That's when Mega Charizard X burns the battlefield with Searing Blaze and when Mega Gengar traps its opponent into the illusory realm of Shadow Drop.

https://youtu.be/tcEagFLIwFQ?si=lTXsmuzRniWoayBw&t=162

Not all 23 Pokkén characters have Mega Evolutions, even though 46 Pokémon in the franchise could already Mega Evolve in other games when Pokkén was released. You can argue that not all Megas were fit for a fighting game, but with the new Legends: Z-A monsters, this will no longer be an excuse.

Mega Hawlucha needs to be in a Pokkén Tournament sequel and fight Pikachu Libre. Machamp, who was in Pokkén's original roster, has a beef with Hawlucha that could grow further with a Mega Evolution in a new fighting game. If other Legends: Z-A Mega Evolution leaks are right, other additions would work perfectly in a Pokkén sequel.

Pokkén Tournament 2, if it ever comes out, could be really far away, despite having been brought up. In 2021, the game's Producer and Tekken director Katsuhiro Harada was open to making a sequel. That statement came four years after Bandai Namco helped Nintendo launch Pokkén Tournament DX on the Switch. "But it's not what we decide, it's what they decide," Harada wrote.

https://twitter.com/Harada_TEKKEN/status/1353346398352117771

Who at Nintendo decided that a Pokémon fighting game, many fans' childhood dreams, was an idea so bad that it shouldn't be improved? Still, it's never too late for that person to change their mind and give us Pokkén Tournament 2 with Megas from Legends: Z-A on the Switch 2, maybe even including improvements that people requested in the original.

The first Pokkén had trouble conquering the hearts of casual Pokémon players because fighting games aren't casual-friendly, even though Pokkén had much simpler controls than its competitors. The FGC community, on the other hand, didn't stick with the game either because its blend of 2D and 3D combat in a single fight felt off. While many people say Nintendo's support for the game wasn't great, the company featured Pokkén in the Pokémon World Championships until 2022.

Fighting games have evolved significantly in the past two years, with Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising and Street Fighter 6 slowly making simplified inputs like Pokkén's more acceptable even to hardcore FGC players. A Pokkén Tournament 2 that keeps simple inputs at its core while simplifying game combat to either 2D or 3D will make for a great combo with a roster full of Mega Evolutions from Legends: Z-A.

Carmelo Anthony fist pumping in NBA 2K26

NBA 2K26's MyPlayer mode allows you to live your superstar dreams on the virtual platform, and you can add a touch of extra authenticity to it with the help of applying your own face.

While plenty of customization options are available for you to enjoy during player creation, you can apply your own face quite easily. There are two key elements: scanning your face and uploading it for use within the game.

How to scan your face for NBA 2K26 MyPlayer?

This task involves using the MyNBA 2K companion app on mobile devices. It is available on Android and iOS.

  • Create your MyPlayer account or sign into your existing one.
  • Ensure the account is connected to both NBA 2K26 and the MyNBA 2K Companion app.
  • There will be a series of prompts that you have to accept before proceeding.
  • You'll need to click a photo of your face.
  • Make sure that you're in a lighted room.
  • Keep the phone at an approximate 18″ distance.
  • When turning your face to the side, turn 45 degrees, and do it slowly. The app will tell you when you'll have to rotate your face.
  • This should ensure a complete scan of your face to be used inside the game.

How to change your MyPlayer face in NBA 2K26

Once you're happy with your scanned picture, upload it to the cloud to make it usable.

  • Start NBA 2K26 and load up MyCareer mode.
  • Load into MyCity with your MyPlayer.
  • Pause and go to the main navigation menu. Then, select the Appearance option under the MyPlayer tab.
  • Select the 'Scan Your Face' option, and then Check for Head Scan Data. This starts the upload process of your previous image and starts to replicate it inside the game.

Once complete, your MyPlayer will appear similar to your own.

Character ominously standing above another in Baldur's Gate 1.

Computer role-playing games, better known as cRPGs, are a staple genre in the PC gaming world. With strong narratives, deep dialogues, and oftentimes strong philosophical themes, titles of this kind are fantastic story-driven experiences that modern RPGs can seldom replicate.

Though we've all heard of all the best cRPGs over the years, from Fallout 2 to Divinity: Original Sin, to even Baldur's Gate 3 as the most modern (and best) of them all, I'd like to point out some games from the turn of the century that you might have missed (or have simply not touched in a very long time).

The best cRPGs to quench your thirst for amazing stories

I've tried to select games that aren't all too popular or talked about in the current zeitgeist, moving my focus away from the biggest names in the industry.

While a couple will sound quite familiar to you ,given Larian's 2023 masterpiece, I'm pretty sure you've never actually played them, or knew which studio developed them before moving on to becoming the industry's most beloved studio (and most hated, eventually).

Planescape: Torment

Planescape: Torment classic video games
Planescape: Torment is one of the darker games on this list. Image via Beamdog

Developed by Black Isle Studios and written by the genius Chris Avellone (former chief creative officer of Obsidian, senior designer of New Vegas), this 1999 title is often regarded as one of the best games of all time.

Set in Dungeons and Dragons' Planescape campaign, Planescape: Torment follows The Nameless One, a cursed individual who wakes up at Sigil, the central city of the campaign's multiverse. Throughout the game, he can join various factions, explore several other planes of existence apart from Sigil itself, and uncover more about his past life and memories.

The gameplay is standard real-time DnD combat like in other cRPGs of the time, where each attack rolls a die behind the screens to determine whether or not you've landed a hit. But where this game truly shines is not in its action-packed set pieces. Rather, much like many of its ilk, Planescape: Torment contains an incredibly powerful story, packed with impeccable novel-level writing and philosophical discussions, with one of the game's first and central questions being, "What can change the nature of man?"

Talking with other characters is such a joy in this title, and though much of it lacks proper voice acting (a common theme even today), you're going to be well-immersed in the world of Planescape and its gritty, dark, and haunting story.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines

Character in Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines.
Impeccable graphics in the background. Image via Activision

A game all too relevant these days, what with the sequel coming 20 years too late and with too many issues (such as Paradox planning to charge you 30 extra bucks to play all its vampire clans), Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines is nevertheless one of the most exciting and best-written cRPGs ever.

Built unconventionally on Valve's Source engine and released in 2004, VTMB follows a new vampire initiate navigating the streets of the US West Coast and brushing shoulders with the universe's Camarilla, a secretive vampire society upholding high standards. It was developed by the now-defunct Troika Games, co-founded by Tim Cain (now one of the chief developers at Obsidian).

The game is based on White Wolf's Vampire: The Masquerade tabletop RPG, itself set in the World of Darkness tabletop. The player can be a member of one of several vampire clans, each with unique characteristics, which adds a ton of depth to the world, the game, and to replay value.

Due to being developed on Source, it runs on practically anything these days without a hitch, while unofficial community patches make the game feel shiny and fresh all these years later, allowing you to experience what is arguably the best writing in a game, ever. Each character comes straight out of a highbrow fiction novel, with dialogues and full voice acting that are unmatched even by today's most expensive titles.

Though the game falters in its later sections as a result of rushed development and production woes, VTMB is truly a complete experience, with role-playing opportunities being almost infinite.

Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura

A zeppelin lit on fire and crashing in Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura.
Who doesn't love low-res, low-poly intro cinematics? Image via Activision

Troika Games also worked on and developed games in other settings, including this weird steampunk-fantasy hybrid called Arcanum. The world of Arcanum is going through the end of its industrial evolution, but as opposed to our own reality, magic and sorcery are colliding with technological advancement, producing a very intriguing and interesting setting.

This game, as opposed to VTMB, is not a first-person title, but rather maintains that isometric cRPG perspective that many similar games of the time used, including Fallout. The character creator is very in-depth, allows you to pursue either technological or magical interests, and explore the world in various ways, all of which are influenced by your role-playing.

Since it's a Troika game, the writing is impeccable, but its use of older tech means running it today is a bit more of a chore, so be sure to check out community posts on Steam that'll help get you set up. There is also a ton of community-made content, including maps and stories, which you can explore after you've cleared the main game, which itself has a ton to offer.

Baldur's Gate 1 and 2

A massive castle and garden in Baldur's Gate 1.
Beamdog's enhanced versions hold up graphically and are very pretty, even today. Image via Beamdog

While BioWare was still an innovative studio and knew what it was doing, it worked on and produced Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, a pair of incredible cRPG achievements that moved the genre forward in more ways than one. With a dark story, serious characters and tone, and a library of content that'd fill your entire year, both of these games are revolutionary for the genre, and ones you shouldn't miss at any cost.

If you have played Larian's iteration on the Baldur's Gate formula, the story of the first two games will strike you as quite familiar, that is if you've chosen the Dark Urge character background. I won't spoil it too much, but it has a lot to do with Lord Bhaal, his underground cult in the city of Baldur's Gate, and your being his descendant who must resist the urge at all costs.

Both games are continuously tied to each other, meaning that beating the first one allows you to transfer a character to the second and simply continue the story. The gameplay is isometric, character-oriented, with the possibility of commanding massive parties of cohesive characters (since evil characters will hate good ones, and vice versa).

Steam luckily sells enhanced and remastered editions of these two cRPG gems, so you should make sure you get those so as to avoid playing jankier, messier, and all-around less fun versions.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in NBA 2K26 with an intense look

NBA 2K26 is back, and so are the badges that you'll need to master to take your MyPlayer to the elite level.

Badges once again have certain requirements that you'll need to keep in mind. Let's take a look at all the badges available inside the game this year, along with their requirements.

BL4 Borderlands 4 psycho

Did this summer totally fly by for anyone else? I mean, seriously. Time is a concept that I can't wrap my head around lately, and summer 2025 has felt like a bit of a haze.

There's still a few weeks left in the season, but for all intents and purposes, summer 2025 is rapidly coming to a close. Kids are going back to school, beaches are closing up shop, pumpkin spice everything is showing up everywhere, and the leaves are going to start changing soon.

What's not changing, though, is the game release calendar being full of big-name bangers, potential sleeper hits, and some highly anticipates sequels. September 2025 begins in earnest with several large titles, and it doesn't really slow down throughout the month.

It kicks off in a huge way next week with the massive launch of Hollow Knight: Silksong on Sept. 4, which is one of the most anticipated titles maybe ever. The surprise announcement at gamescom hasn't left much time to breathe. It's finally here.

Also on Sept. 4 comes Hell is Us, followed up swiftly by Cronos: The New Dawn on Sept. 5. The week after has Borderlands 4 and 2XKO, followed by skate and Dying Light: The Beast. Yeah, it just does not slow down.

The month closes out its final days with Silent Hill f, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, EA Sports FC 26, and Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles. It's a big month for gamers with a lot of disposable income. For others, it may be a tough month when it comes to being selective.

Personally, I'll be looking into Borderlands 4, Silent Hill f, and also paying close attention to the Call of Duty NEXT event on Sept. 30. What about you, dear reader? Which game or games are you looking to pick up this month? Let us know in the comments and poll below, and get ready to save up some dough.

Wesker being corrupted by a strange orange growth on the side of his body in Dead by Daylight.

Dead by Daylight's patch 9.2.0 is soon to hit the PTE servers. However, with what BHVR has already announced, the game's planned anti-tunneling Killer nerfs could completely break the game, especially for the murderous side of the aisle.

Patch 9.2.0 is going to be a massive one for Dead by Daylight, not least because it's aiming to completely curb the practices of tunneling and slugging Killers were so very fond of. Having been dubbed "toxic" by the majority of Survivor players, those Killers who engaged in these two practices are going to be sorely disappointed if 9.2.0 hits the shelves in the same shape it has been proposed.

The biggest anti-toxic changes BHVR plans to introduce are the following:

  • Remove notifications when a Survivor is unhooked.
  • Give Survivors buffs if any of them is killed or sacrificed before at least six hooks were performed.
  • Prevent Generators from being blocked or regressing for the entire match if a Survivor who was last hooked dies or is sacrificed first.

Now that's a lot of damage to the Killers, honestly. While I do not appreciate tunneling or slugging, I believe that extreme nerfs like this could only be detrimental to the game and the balance, particularly because high Elo Survivors already have the means to combat with any Killer. What this will do is throw the balance completely off the rails, buffing Survivors to the utmost, and preventing a Killer from performing even the most basic functions.

A teddy bear lying on a filthy floor in a strange room in Dead by Daylight x The Walking Dead.
See this bear writhing on the floor? That's me after reading the patch notes. Image via Behaviour Interactive

It will lead to situations where a Killer has to knowingly prevent himself or herself from killing, sacrificing, or hooking a Survivor if they've not met the requirements above.

For example, I could be playing a Killer who put a Survivor on two hooks. I see them wounded and want to go in for the kill. However, I then realize I haven't met the requirements above and suddenly have to let them live to avoid buffing the others or prevent myself from even being able to block generators.

As someone who runs gen-blocking perks on Killers, this could potentially render my entire suite of perks obsolete mid-match, which is as bad a change as they come.

Thankfully, these planned reworks to the game's systems are only going into PTE for now, with extensive testing to determine in what way, if at all, they will be introduced into the game proper.

And I sincerely hope they don't go in looking like this.

Hornet preparing to attack while standing on top of dandelions in Silksong

Silksong is the most wishlisted game on Steam. Does it mean anything for the future? Let's look back at how other most-wishlisted games performed later.

I've checked Steam's Top Wishlist games from Aug. 27, 2024, exactly one year ago, using the Wayback Machine. I wanted to see which titles Steam players were the most excited to put their hands on and, for titles that have already come out since, how many people played them at their peak and how many are still playing today.

Most-wishlisted Steam games in August 2024

All game information in the table below comes from Steam Charts data. Funnily enough, the table starts from the second most-wishlisted game because the first one in Aug. 2024 was already Silksong.

Wishlist rank Game Release date Peak players Avg. Players (30d)
#2 Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 Sept. 9, 2024 186,199 7,654
#3 Frostpunk 2 Sept. 20, 2024 14,925 439
#4 Monster Hunter Wilds Feb. 28, 2025 1,179,869 20,315
#5 S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl Nov. 20, 2024 120,960 3,669
#6 Marvel Rivals Dec. 5, 2024 642,333 78,575

Marvel Rivals was able to retain most of its player base compared to other games on the list, with a solid 78,500 average players in the last 30 days. The game's a multiplayer hero shooter, a popular genre, with Marvel characters, some of the most popular fictional characters in decades. The game is also well executed, so it's no wonder it's been doing fine and living up to the hype.

Monter Hunter Wilds is also still going strong and constantly reaches the top 50 most-played games of the week on Steam, with player count reaching 30,000 concurrents most days. Wilds is a successful sequel that converted a huge portion of its predecessor's players in Monster Hunter: World.

Space Marine 2 is the final multiplayer game on the list, and it's doing fine, using big updates to attract players back to the game every few months. Anyone who hyped it up has in the playerbase at least one reason to be excited to keep playing it.

As for Frostpunk 2 and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl, they are single-player titles that depend more on how attractive the interactions between players and the environment are, just as the case will probably be for Silksong. Frostpunk 2 lost a bunch of players, but since it's on Game Pass, most new players will likely not come from Steam. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 has a big open world and an interesting mod community that keeps it alive.

All these numbers mean that the most-wishlisted Steam games usually deliver on expectations. This top five is keeping fans invested for months, has healthy communities, and good content. It's yet another reason to believe that Sliksong, for being on the top of the list for at least one year, will also be a massive hit on Steam.

You can check the complete Steam wishlist ranking of Aug. 2024 if you want to see other games.

Elster's eye watching intently at the camera in SIGNALIS.

SIGNALIS, an indie game released in 2022 by a pair of developers known as rose-engine, is perhaps one of the best and most terrifying survival horror experiences ever. With a haunting atmosphere, gut-wrenching story, and Lovecraftian themes galore, it desperately needs a sequel, or, more precisely, a spin-off.

When I first played SIGNALIS last year, I didn't know what to expect. I was itching for a proper survival horror experience and eyeing a few potential titles, with this one particularly captivating me with its art style. Having pixel graphics combined with fluid 3D animations, and art direction inspired by anime, it's a game that you'll see once but never forget.

And so it was that I hopped on, gripped by a promising story and artistry more beautiful still. And man, what a ride it was.

Elster, the android and protagonist of SIGNALIS, looking solemnly at the camera surrounded with all sorts of digital menus.
SIGNALIS is centered around Elster (LSTR-512), a humanoid robot uncovering her past. Image via rose-engine

You play as a Replika, an android made to look exactly like a normal human, called Elster, who wakes up on a derelict ship stranded on a strange, cold planet. You explore a massive facility on this colonized world, uncover dark and strange secrets related to Elster's life, and start on a path to find her partner and Gestalt, Ariane.

The game's story is largely inspired by cosmic horror and 80s sci-fi, giving everything a strong retrofuturistic look which meshes incredibly well with Lovecraftian themes. The book The King in Yellow features prominently, which Lovecraft himself incorporated into his mythos, adding layer upon layer of cosmic dread. As you uncover bits and pieces of Elster's life and her connection to Ariane, you're actually left with more questions than answers.

SIGNALIS also takes a lot of inspiration from Japanese horror, focusing more on the psychological than the "scary," with Elster going through fever dreams and Evangelion-style sequences, abstractly showcasing her inner state, the horrors of post-humanism, and the inherently overwhelming weight of the cosmos.

Following in cosmic horror tradition, open-ended storytelling is the name of the game in SIGNALIS. Symbolism, lack of information, and mystery drive the narrative, with players invited to piece together their own interpretation of a complicated, layered world. Emotions are off the charts, mysteries pile up, all while fear is running rampant with each dark corner, every strange turn.

Which brings me to the crux of this article: SIGNALIS desperately needs a sequel. The story in this game, detailed as it might be, is incredibly open-ended. And I wouldn't want that feeling spoiled, not in a million years.

An M1911 handgun in a desk drawer in SIGNALIS.
If you've ever played the original Resident Evil games, SIGNALIS will be strikingly familiar to you. Image via rose-engine

However, there is so much unique storytelling and narrative design at play here that it'd be a damned shame to leave it as is. After all, this is a genre game, not high literary fiction (though it does make a strong bid for that), and could do well with some new game set in the same universe, following different characters.

Those questions the developers wanted us to give our own answers to can remain as they are, unspoiled by franchising efforts and the need to overexplain. What should be expanded upon is the overarching narrative, the world, the background, other planets, the Eusan Nation.

The developers never released anything after SIGNALIS, though they did update the game with additional content, patches, and sporadic story clues.

SIGNALIS could even serve as a significant template for a potential anime adaptation, but that's as much wishful thinking as it gets.

This game was their first, and it took eight years from start to launch. They very well could be making something else. But so far, it's been quiet, and I sincerely hope they haven't given up on what is arguably the most gripping survival horror story and world I have ever encountered.

A bunch of characters battling bugs in Fortnite

Fortnite Chapter Six, season four has a new map, and you can find different NPCs across the various regions. Like in previous seasons, some of these NPCs will offer him valuable services, while the rest of them can be hired to fight by your side.

To unlock these characters' offerings, you have to manually visit their locations on the map and interact with them first. Tracking them down can be fairly tricky, so here are all NPC locations in Fortnite Chapter Six, season four.

There are 17 NPCs you can find across the island in Fortnite Chapter Six, season four. Additional characters may arrive as the season progresses, or existing ones could be removed, as was the case with Morgan Myst and Killswitch, who left the island on Aug. 26. As any NPC changes occur, we'll update all relevant details here.

Most of the characters this season offer OXR Patch Ups and Rifts, which have to be unlocked first by raising your OXR Rank. You can then use the services to heal yourself. Some characters, like Peely and Cuddle Team Leader, can provide specialist services to increase the chances of your survival.

With helpful characters at your side, you can now take on some of the tougher challenges around the island. You might try slaying the Queen, collecting items from Hive Stashes, and discovering the swarm's access point to the island.

Tyrese Haliburton in NBA 2K26 dribbling with the ball

NBA 2K26 might have plenty of gameplay changes and new features since last year, but some things never change: the servers.

It hasn't taken long for the servers to get in a pickle following the start of early access at 11am CT on Aug. 29. Many players report being unable to connect to the servers, and the incidents appear to be worldwide.

Let's look at what you can do to potentially solve the problem.

Potential NBA 2K26 can't connect to server error fix and solutions

The unable to connect to servers error occurs in NBA 2K26 whenever you can't access the official servers but you are unable to do so. Doing so is essential, especially if you want to enjoy the online modes. Sadly, as of writing, the servers seem to be offline for most players. The problem also appears universal across all platforms, worsening the situation.

https://twitter.com/2KIntel/status/1961459323919388991

Here are certain steps you can take to ensure that the problems are not from your end.

  • Use a LAN connection if possible, as a WiFi service can be pretty dodgy when accessing a crowded server.
  • Make sure no downloads are going on in the background.
  • An internet service with "Open" NAT makes accessing multiplayer sessions in any video game easier.

The steps mentioned here are important whenever you can't gain access to the official servers. While you can still enjoy the offline modes, the online part of the content will require the use of internet connectivity since they're all server-sided.

That said, the current issue is purely from 2K's end. This happened last year, too, right after NBA 2K25's early access began. Back then, it took a few hours for 2K to fix the problems. It could also be the same this time, but I hope the problems will be fixed as soon as possible.
