This afternoon, a choice of two raging videogame lawsuits to report on. Firstly, a snippet from the on-going courtroom scrap between former Unknown Worlds executives and Krafton over the state of Subnautica 2's development, in which the former accuse the latter of changing their story about why the executives were fired.

I've decided not to write that one up because it feels like we are entering the realm of potshots over minutiae, rather than learning anything genuinely new about Subnautica 2 or its creators, but if you're interested, GamesIndustry.biz has your back. The parallel Tencent/Sony bust-up has the virtue of relative novelty. It gives me a whole different kind of headache. What's going on with this one, then?

Something Hollow Knight: Silksong-related has happened at an Australian museum again. This time, rather than the game being confirmed for an appearance back when it was still infinitely mysterious and sans release date, it's Team Cherry devs addressing just how difficult their creation is, following plenty of post-release discourse on the subject.

This follows the metroidvania's first patch making a couple of its early bosses a bit easier to tackle, amid debate as to whether it's just good and hard, or pushes into unnecessarily annoying slog territory via the likes of bench placement and hazards being able to deal out two masks of damage. As with every FromSoft game since time itself began with the release of Demon's Souls, where you stand on that bickering will likely depend on how prepared you are to spend hours battling one foe over and over again.

Parkoury zombie bludgeoner Dying Light: The Beast has, literally just this minute, gone on sale, which means the review embargo curtain has lifted on RPS to reveal... an empty chair with an IOU stuck to it.

This one is my bad, rather than because of any cheeky code withholding. I'd simply underestimated how many trillions of PC games were also out this week, and had to abandon my charge through The Beast to help keep the undermanned Treehouse on top of things elsewhere. Still, we'll shortly be bringing you a full, likely much better appraisal from RPS veteran Dominic Tarason (thaaaaaanks Dominic), and in penance, I offer some initial impressions from my couple of hours with the game's opening.

We'll circle back to that feeling. Endless Legend 2 launches into early access on 22nd September, and I've now spent around 20 hours with it. I've previously praised its new/reborn factions and retreating ocean mechanic, and I plan to carry on praising, but there are definitely some more comprehensive issues I'd love Amplitude to address as this splendid scarab of a turn-based strategy game rumbles toward 1.0.

Meanwhile, Disco writer Robert Kurvitz and artist Aleksander Rostov are making something for a studio called Red Info, and ZA/UM themselves are working on a new CRPG called Zero Parades. Moonstone Island Gets Character Customization for Avatars

Studio Supersoft added character customization to Moonstone Island, which allows someone to change how their avatar looks and find clothing as they play through the game. The update is now live, after people patch the game. This follows the implementation of evolutions for Spirits, a feature added back in June 2025, and past updates included things like extra festivals

Prior to this patch, we couldn't change how our avatar would look in Moonstone Island. They would have long white hair, a floppy blue hat, and a red cape over their outfit. The update adds 28 hat and hair options and 36 pieces of clothing, with some of those found as gifts or by finding chests in the world. Once we get items, we can go to the main menu and tab over to our character to change how they look.

Here's the trailer for the Moonstone Island Character Customization Update:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpAjHi1gpw0

While the customization elements are the main focus, they aren't the only changes. It is now easier to bring up the Medallion, as it has its own button. There will be more room in our backpacks too, as the patch notes noted, "Talismans no longer take up space in the inventory."

Moonstone Island is available for the Switch, PC, and mobile devices, and the Character Customization Update patch is live now.

New Hatsune Miku Project Voltage Pokemon Song Stars N Ooparts

The latest Project Voltage song, which involves the Vocaloid Hatsune Miku singing themed tracks with sound effects and BGM from Pokemon games, is tied to N, Pokemon Black and White, and Team Plasma. NILFRUITS is the composer and BAKUI worked on the music video, and "OOPArts" is now on YouTube. It will appear on Karent starting on September 19, 2025.

Because this is so focused on N and Team Plasma, this Hatsune Miku Pokemon song icnludes lots of imagery of characters tied to them. The character is shown both as a child, from when he was orphaned and raised by Pokemon, as an adult. In the background, sprites and art of creatures tied to him appear. Our first fight against him in Pokemon Black and White involved Purrloin, and the sprite for that "cat" will show up in the background behind him. Tympole, Darmanitan, Pidove, and Woobat are highlighted too. So are Poke Balls and the Team Plasma imagery. The background music includes that antagonist group's themes to it. Also, some of the most important characters tied to him, which are Zoroark, Reshiram, and Zekrom, constantly appear with full cut-in images.

Here's the new Project Voltage song "OOPArts."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFZK8GbCmQY

The last entry in this series of songs was "Facade Question" by Satsuki. It was an April Fools' Day track that paired up Hatsune Miku and Kasane Teto, and in it we saw Pikachu associated with Miku and Mimikyu tied to Teto.

New Project Voltage High songs are rolling out gradually, with three available so far. Pokemon Black and White is on the DS, and it debuted in Japan exactly 15 years ago on September 18, 2010.

Honkai: Nexus Anima Nexus Bond Test Starts, Umpurrella Trailer Debuts

HoYoVerse kicked off the Honkai: Nexus Anima Nexus Bond Test, the closed beta for its new game, and it also shared a new, animated trailer for the character known as Umpurrella. The release also included confirmation this test period will only run until September 23, 2025, but that it will include Supply Drops to ensure people can get a bit of a boost as they make their way through the game.

In the case of the Honkai: Nexus Anima Nexus Bond Test, the two Supply Drops are tied to progress in the closed beta and not time. This means if you're playing through it more quickly, you don't need to worry about hopping in at certain times to get items. The first drop arrives in someone's inbox after they finish a quest called "Repair the Aspect Fracture." Five Protean Pills will be given as a gift once you reach that milestone. The second one is tied to leveling up. If you hit level 30, you get 3000 Aspect Gems currency. Since progress doesn't carry over to the eventual full game, all of these items will only be able to used during this brief period.

As for the Honkai: Nexus Anima Umpurrella trailer, it's an animated short that highlights a young woman who keeps one of these cat-like characters as an Anima partner. While it is a creature that looks like an umbrella, with some folks even using it as one during storms, this particular one doesn't like the rain. As a result, the young woman goes out of her way to avoid being outside when it rains and doesn't use the Anima as one if they do end up caught in a storm. However, we soon see what Umpurrella is willing to do for her master.

Here's "Watersong: A Sea of Flowers" showing off Umpurrella in Honkai: Nexus Anima

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kg9vyT2bKfs

Some of the latest Anima characters revealed included Bobabirb, Cublade, Foalhardy, and Scorscythe.

Honkai: Nexus Anima is in development for the PC and mobile devices, and the Bond Test closed beta ends on September 23, 2025.

Hello Kitty Island Adventure Wheatflour Wonderland DLC Debuts for $15

Sanrio and Sunblink just released the Hello Kitty Island Adventure Wheatflour Wonderland DLC expansion on three of four platforms in most regions, and it costs $14.99 on two of them. If you play on the Switch or PC, you need to pay for the new area. Apple Arcade players can access it for free. As for those who picked it up on the PS5, they need to wait until October 2, 2025 to get this add-on. Switch owners in Europe will experience a slight delay, as the expansion will debut on September 23, 2025 there.

Once we get the add-on and get through introductory quests in-game, we can head to Wheatflour Wonderland via a portal in Hello Kitty's bakery. Once there, we meet up with Cogimyun and become the Wheatflour Guardians heroes. This also means crafting wands to use spells and unlock areas, collecting Wheathearts to get items, create a whole new line of food with Noodle Grass as one of the primary ingredients, and getting new furniture and cosmetics. Cogimyun herself can be befriended up to level 35.

Here's the Wheatflour Wonderland launch trailer that shows some of the locations and new additions.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZOHsstMPms

As a reminder, this is the first paid expansion for the game. Past updates were free.

Hello Kitty Island Adventure is available for the Switch, PS5, PC, and iOS devices via Apple Arcade, and Wheatflour Wonderland is now available on the Switch, PC, and Apple Arcade.

Believe in Umamusume Pretty Derby

Cygames has revealed Believe as a brand-new character coming to Umamusume: Pretty Derby. She will be voiced by Misaki Akiyama and appear in the Japanese version of the game on Friday, September 19, 2025.

As with all prior playable Trainees, Believe is based on the real racehorse of the same name. The mare was born in 1998 from the American horses Sunday Silence and Great Christine. Her racing career spanned from 2000 to 2003, during which she recorded ten wins, including two G1 victories in Japan at the 2002 Sprinters Stakes and the 2003 Takamatsunomiya Kinen.

The Japanese reveal of Believe followed a server outage that affected not only Umamusume but also Cygames' other titles like Granblue Fantasy and The Idolmaster Cinderella Girls: Starlight Stage. The outage lasted for around 4.5 hours, and Cygames has also compensated by sending 150 jewels to all players who started before the outage.

Meanwhile, the global English version of Umamusume: Pretty Derby is still catching up with the addition of Hishi Amazon, who first appeared in the Japanese release in June 2021. In early September 2025, Cygames also added Seiun Sky to the global release's roster.

Umamusume: Pretty Derby is available worldwide on iOS, Android, and PC.

Review: Hyke: Northern Light(s) Sends Us on a Witch Road Trip

Can an action RPG about cutting and blasting through waves of mutated enemies in a dilapidated world after an apocalypse be cozy and relaxing? Hyke: Northern Light(s) certainly makes it seem possible. It's a beautiful road trip through a dilapidated, pixel art world with adorable witch characters who happen to have enough power to just annihilate anything in their path. It definitely feels unique, even if the actual combat can get a bit clumsy.

Hyke: Northern Light(s) begins with a peek at life before the war destroyed things. We see a woman, revealed to be Hyke's mother, fighting against human enemies. She's a witch, and she's making a final push to reach the captain of the forces. Once she does, things fade away and we meet Hyke, her daughter who she loved and was fighting for. Now that Hyke's grown, she's headed out into the world in the car her father left her in search of her mother alongside Riko, another witch she met on her journey. The path they tread means they, as well as the player, will learn more about the current state of the world, the war, witches, and Hyke's mom.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WV8ZIVDO3hc

To start, I adore the character design in Hyke: Northern Light(s). Every ally and enemy looks incredible. Especially considering the size of the sprites for them. They actually match the elaborate character designs shown on the official site, which is amazing. They also tend to have some cute personalities, even if people aren't always well fleshed out as I'd like. But then, the camp scenes do help with that a bit.

When Hyke: Northern Light(s) begins, we have access to Hyke and her friend Riko. However, as the two travel across the country, additional characters join our party. Each one plays in her own way and has different types of movesets and specialties. For example, Hyke has ranged attacks, as well as a special that circles around her, as the game starts. Riko is more of a close-range melee user who swaps between a glass cannon, faster approach that heals with each hit and a giant rabbit transformation that lumbers around and hits harder. We can switch between them, as well as other characters in the party, on the fly. When outside of stages, we can upgrade their abilities. Not to mention before heading into a location, we can cook a meal for a buff and choose one random buff to apply to that outing. People feel unique, which I appreciate.

I just wish Hyke: Northern Light(s) gameplay felt tighter. We have an option to manually control these heroines or tap a button to lock on to targets. However, neither feels competent enough to make the combat feel good. If you don't bother with the locking on option, getting the positioning right to hit foes and close distances with attacks is imprecise. If the lock-on option is enabled, the game randomly picks who to attack and, while those hits land, I felt like more powerful hits were wasted.

Especially since enemies do get more powerful in what can feel like a satisfying way as we reach new areas. When Hyke first heads into the forest on her own for the very first stage, there are only small, squirrel or bug-size enemies and an occasional deer. But then we see larger opponents that can deal major ranged damage, have more unexpected movesets, or even look really cool like a mutated giant spider that makes a car into its exoskeleton.

Aside from both the character and enemy designs looking great, there's honestly some fun and visually intriguing stage design at play here too. When we happen upon inhabited areas, they look like they've been through it. The camp ground customization involves some cute accessories. Food looks good. I appreciate there's a journal we can look through to see the pixel art more closely. When we reach new areas, each new stage doesn't always feel like a rehash or slightly different take on the previous one, as there's a sense of progression involving a change to the environment, more hints about the war, and also areas affected by possible magic and otherworldly elements. I don't want to spoil things, but there are also some environmental aspects that affect progression, with the first forested area involving some one-way "gates" and poisonous polluted spots.

I love the ambiance surrounding Hyke: Northern Light(s), as well as the witch character designs. It's a beautiful game, for sure, and sometimes it can even feel cozy. I just wish it felt a bit more responsive when playing. The different movesets for each character are great! But sometimes, the execution doesn't make it feel as tight and precise as it could be.

Hyke: Northern Light(s) is available for the Switch, PS5, and PC

The Manual Beleaf challenges are among the toughest to complete in Skate, and finishing them in the correct sequence is a true test of your RS skills.

The quest involves you recreating three different skills separately across two small barriers that offer little moving room. However, you can complete the challenge with some simple tricks (if you fail, just try out the methods listed below).

Sake Manual Beleaf challenges guide

Here's a list of every task to complete.

  • Best Sequence (0/400)
  • Flip Trick
  • Manuals (2/2)
  • 180 Spin
  • All the above in the same sequence

Out of the five tasks, don't pay much attention to Best Sequence. You'll have to complete the task using the two highlighted barricades.

  • Take two stacks of speed to start completing the objective.
  • As you approach the barrier, flick the RS up to perform an Ollie (Flip Trick).
  • Reduce the speed, and flick the RS gently down to complete the two Manuals.
  • Proceed with any 180-degree spin move, and repeat the sequence from the top.

In some instances, you could end up landing on a Grind. If that happens, use a 180-degree spin to move in the air before landing from the barrier to the ground.

Maual Beleaf challenge tasks in Skate
Screenshot by Destructoid

If you land on the ground in between performing the sequence, you'll need to begin from the start. If you manage to complete your speed on the board, you can complete the tasks on the first barrier itself (which reduces the chances of failure). Controlling your speed isn't the easiest of jobs, but it's doable if you use the streamlined controls.

That's all you have to do to complete the Manual Beleaf challenges in the game. If you end up being unable to save your progression, try this fix to solve the issue at hand.

Yellow ranger shooting a red mythic blade blaster in fortnite

There are many powerful weapons you can find around the island in Fortnite, but most of the best ones are quite rare and hidden. The Mythic Blade Blaster is one such tool, but this special Power Ranger gun isn't a weapon you want to miss out on.

Strong weapons like this one are tough to track down, but the damage they put out makes them well worth the effort. Whether you're seeking this gun for a quest or just to use in battle, here's how to get the Mythic Blade Blaster in Fortnite.

Where to find Mythic Blade Blaster in Fortnite

Yellow ranger looking at case with blade blaster in it in fortnite
Screenshot by Destructoid

The Mythic Blade Blaster can only be obtained by opening and looting OXR Bunkers. Accessing these special treasure troves requires you to increase your OXR Rank to at least Rank A. The loot inside each one is a bit random, so you're never guaranteed to find this weapon, but there is a good chance you'll come across it.

Once you're inside an OXR Bunker, search all levels for golden weapon cases. If there's a Mythic Blade Blaster present, it will be in one of these, although they can also contain other goodies like a Precision Air Strike. After finding one, approach the case and interact with it to buy this item. It's free, so you don't actually need to spend any gold bars, but you do still have to perform the action of purchasing it.

If you're struggling to get your OXR Rank up, you can also wander into any already open OXR Bunkers you come across for a shot at finding one. Bunkers have a lot of loot, so there's a chance whoever opened one up may have left one behind. Fighting a player who is close to a bunker is a good strategy, too, as you might get to pick up this weapon if you beat them in battle.

How to use Mythic Blade Blaster in Fortnite

Screenshot by Destructoid

The Mythic Blade Blaster functions just about the same as any regular gun you can find around the island, except it packs an extra little explosive punch upon hitting its landing. It's a dual-mode pistol that fires fairly rapid, explosive shots, so use it exactly like you would a regular pistol to deal solid damage from a moderate distance away.

With this weapon in your arsenal, you're now ready to take on the toughest challenges there are around the island. Some good tasks to work on are all Egg-cellent Observations story quests, destroying Swarmer Nests to thin out the swarm, slaying the Queen, and all Welcome to the Infestation quests.

Combat Specialty

This feature from BO6 has been tweaked, as equipping two Perks of the same specialty can now offer a hybrid bonus with a third as opposed to having to equip three of the same to earn the bonus.

Overclocks

Every piece of equipment, Field Upgrade, and Scorestreak can be leveled up to unlock modifiers that increase their functionality. This is reminiscent of Pro Perks from past CoD games, but for equipment.

Weapon Prestige

Weapon Prestige returns. Once a gun is max level, you can Prestige to reset its rank to unlock a unique attachment and camo. This can be done twice before reaching Master Prestige on the gun, with 250 additional levels and a unique camo to unlock.

Specialist Wildcard

The Specialist bonus will be a Wildcard you can equip in your loadout in BO7. This means you can earn a new Perk at 200, 400, and 600 score, with all Perks unlocking at 1,200 total score streak.

Campaign

BO7 campaign squad
Image via Activision

Co-op is back

The entire campaign can be played in co-op for up to four players. You play as Specter One unit soldiers David Mason, Mike Harper, Eric Samuels, and Leilani Tupuola. BO6 character Troy Marshall also appears in a scene with Mason as they visit the grave of Frank Woods. The campaign takes place in 2035 and the main antagonist appears to be The Guild, a company utilizing AI and robots to do its dirty work.

A trippy story

In the footage shown, David Mason and his Specter One team are attacked with some kind of hallucinogenic gas, which makes them see things like massive machetes falling from the sky, twisted architecture, and more.

Treyarch described the campaign as having "surreal dreamscapes," where you have to deal with "a weapon that turns fear into a tool of war" that will leave the characters "trapped in paranoia."

Menendez lives?

Raul Menendez appears to be alive somehow, even after David Mason killed him in the canon ending of BO2. Something is up, and the team heads to Avalon to figure things out at the start of the story.

New Endgame feature

The 12th and final mission of the campaign is a 32-player map of Avalon with "endless sessions," called Endgame. Players can rank up their operators and level up until they can reach high tier difficulty areas, but progression is reset upon dying.

Little else is known about this mission and feature thus far, but it can be played in co-op and tasks players with leveling up and equipping new abilities to help defeat the enemies within as they delve deeper into Avalon to find out the truth.

Campaign Camos and XP

The campaign and Endgame will feature their own set of camos, including four Mastery camos, and XP that can be earned no matter what you play, so that you are always leveling up your account or battle pass no matter what.

Zombies

BO7 Zombies crew
Image via Activision

New round-based map

The new map for BO7 Zombies Ashes of the Dead is "the biggest round-based map ever" in the franchise. It features a Wonder Vehicle that players must construct to drive between locations on the map. The only location revealed thus far is called Farm, but other previous zombies locales have been teased, likely cobbled together to form the big map with the Wonder Vehicle used to traverse between them.

OG crew returns

Richtofen, Dempsey, Nicholai, and Takeo return in the Dark Aether. Treyarch said that this is a "new iteration" of the original crew, and they come from all sorts of different timelines in the multiverse. Takeo is from 1591 feudal Japan, Nikolai is from 1984 Afghanistan, Richtofen is from an alternate universe where the Axis powers won WW2, and Dempsey is from 1968 Vietnam.

Survival maps coming

Each section of the larger RBZ map will be turned into Survival maps, which are smaller, self-contained areas of the map that players can jump into and play with all Perks and necessary items present instead of having to experience the overarching map.

Dead Ops Arcade returns

The top-down, twin-stick shooter arcade mode will return in its fourth iteration.

Warzone

Warzone Clash mode
Image via Activision

Nothing has been confirmed for Warzone yet. Info about the battle royale mode will likely come later this year at Call of Duty Next before BO7 launches. However, given past years, it's probable that Warzone will get BO7 guns, movement, and equipment as part of an update in season one.

This article will be updated with new information as it becomes available.

Megazord holding up a sword in fortnite

To harness the full potential of the Power Rangers, you need to become Megazord in Fortnite. This epic amalgamation of all six rangers is a unique character unlike any other, so you'll likely want to know how to unlock Megazord and all the rewards that come with them.

The process for unlocking most skins and rewards is pretty straightforward, but this one is a bit trickier since it's the featured secret style for Chapter Six, season four. If you're hoping to unite the Power Rangers in this epic style, here's how to get all Megazord rewards in Fortnite.

How to unlock Fortnite Megazord rewards

The Megazord quest page with rewards displayed in fortnite

To unlock Megazord rewards in Fortnite, you need to earn account levels. Each reward is unlocked after earning two levels, so to earn them all, you need a total of 24 levels. All Megazord rewards are also battle pass exclusives, so you must have this pass unlocked to earn them.

In many past seasons, unlocking the secret bonus skin usually required you to finish special quests. Although there are some missions tied to this character, you don't need to get them done to unlock Megazord. Instead, you solely need to focus on earning levels.

The best way to quickly earn XP so you can gain account levels is by completing all quests you haven't done yet. This includes weekly quests, story quests, and daily quests, all of which grant massive XP upon completion. You can also jump into creator-made islands to earn even more levels.

All Megazord rewards in Fortnite

There are 12 Megazord rewards you can claim from the Megazord page on the battle pass. These prizes are divided across two pages that must be unlocked in order. If you work through the rest of the standard pass and all bonus prizes, you can also earn the Black & Gold Dino Megazord style as the final unlockable item, but this item isn't part of the main Megazord set.

If you're looking for ways to quickly earn XP so you can get closer to unlocking Megazord, there are plenty of missions worth tackling. Some good tasks to work on for XP are all Egg-cellent Observations story quests, gaining shields using Slurp Geysersusing an Ascender and a Zipline in the same match, and calling in Precision Air Strikes.

A beautiful magical cherry garden in Towa.

Roguelikes have been around for decades, with games evolving from barely having a few pixels moving on the screen to featuring Hollywood-level acting, incredible art, and varied gameplay.

A derivative genre known as the roguelite takes elements from roguelikes, makes them less hardcore, and introduces a more streamlined way to experience permadeath runs, one filled with continuous upgrades, smaller stages, and massive boss fights. The pinnacle of the genre is certainly Hades, a game that added so much into the mix it could very well be called its own thing, and many games have tried following in its footsteps, to more or less success.

Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree is one such title, taking an established formula and expanding it with incredibly unique and different mechanics, most of which I have never seen before in a video game. Combining these new elements with a JRPG and Visual Novel flair has produced a title that feels like a breath of fresh air in more ways than one.

With stunning visuals, a breathtaking color palette, and an approach to combat that is as interesting as it is frustrating, Towa is well beyond what I expected, and could have been a lot better if it weren't for certain combat-related issues that significantly take away from the experience.

Charming, beautiful, rich with story

The sacred tree in Towa.
The art direction is out of this world. Screenshot by Destructoid

More of a Hades-like than a rougelike in itself, Towa is a charming, stunning game, placing you in the shoes of Priestess Towa and her Prayer Children, who must go through various combat challenges in the effort to beat a powerful demon, Magatsu, who is plaguing the land.

The game unfolds as a series of challenges, where you have to select two characters who you will control simultaneously through these stages, which are more or less identical to what Hades has. Your first pick, the Tsurugi, is the melee attacker, whereas the second, the Kagura, is the spell caster. The Tsurugi is the one you control directly, while the Kagura is tied to your primary character.

Both are controlled at the same time, meaning you'll have to pay attention to each character's positioning and use their spells in unison for maximum effect.

Each stage is packed with enemies, and beating all of them in various challenges leads to rewards in the form of currency, resources, or, most importantly, power-up cards which should be familiar to you from other games in the genre. There are levels of respite and healing which you can use to restore your characters before storming into boss fights, which are varied and quite formidable.

Two characters speaking around a bonfire in Towa.
Characters all interact with each other, exchange stories, and open up this incredibly rich world to you. Screenshot by Destructoid

The game is rich in story, as its world and characters are all fleshed out and have tons of dialogue and lore. But they're told to you more in the way of a JRPG or visual novel rather than a Western roguelike or other story-rich genre, so if you're a fan of those, you'll definitely love what Towa has done here.

Since you have to pick two characters at once, they will usually synergize well story-wise, exchange dialogue, and have deeper conversations during rests, adding a layer of RPG to this otherwise combat and action-oriented roguelike title.

On the other hand, the game has stunning visuals and perhaps the best art direction of any game launched in 2025. I know Clair Obscur fans will rip into me for that one, but Towa's style, 2D art, and overall color palette is something out of this world, and undoubtedly one of the game's strongest points.

Combined with unique gameplay mechanics which I've never encountered in any similar game thus far, Towa ends up quite the interesting title, innovating on the roguelike formula on the same level as Hades, which itself is a revolutionary series.

Unique in more ways than one

Characters in Towa fighting strange creatures in a deserted village.
The combat in Towa revolves around two simultaneously-controlled characters, which you have to pay special attention to. Screenshot by Destructoid

Towa is among the most unique games I've played this year, not least because it gives you control of two characters simultaneously, which you have to micromanage to a degree to avoid taking unnecessary damage. Each character has its own set of skills, both in the role of the Tsurugi and the Kagura, and you can place any character in whatever role you wish.

All characters can be individually leveled up, equipped with different weaponry, given specific spells and abilities, and buffed with passive effects. This adds a lot of layers to the core gameplay loop, as your whole game can drastically change between runs depending on which characters you chose to bring along, in which roles, and with what abilities, passives, and other upgrades.

This further means most players will have dramatically different experiences between each other, which is something not a lot of games can say. The replay value is massive as well, especially due to particular story elements that I won't get into to avoid spoilers. But I can just say returning to Towa can and will be definitely different and varied, with multiple replays never getting stale.

Towa forging a katana in Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree.
You can literally forge your own sword and make it into whatever you like. Screenshot by Destructoid

What's more, Towa has one of the best mechanics in a game I have ever seen: you can forge your own katanas. The forging system is so detailed and realistic that it's honestly incredible, and I can't say I ever expected to see this in a game as cute and quirky as Towa.

Katanas can be made from the ground up, with the ability to create custom designs, use your own preferred material to achieve various passive effects, sharpen the blade in whatever way you see fit, and hammer it into perfection. If Towa were just this mechanic, with some trading on top, it'd be the best blacksmith simulation game of all time, bar none. I can't describe how much time I've spent at the forge, tinkering and making my own sword just how I like it.

All of the above, though, amazing though it is, falls short of greatness when Towa's actual combat and gameplay are taken into account; various design flaws, inconsistencies, and other detractors leave a sour taste.

Artificial difficulty, floaty combat, and confusing gameplay

A kraken-like boss in Towa with two characters fighting it on a ship.
The bosses are generally approachable, but artificial difficulty spikes ruin long runs and cause tons of tedium. Screenshot by Destructoid

Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree's combat feels exceptionally floaty, much in line with its heavy JRPG inspiration and lean, and attacking enemies oftentimes doesn't give that feedback and "kick" you'd expect in a modern title. This is more true on some Tsurugi characters than others, and it definitely is inconsistent and varied, and not in a good way.

This often leads to your sticking to just one single Tusurgi character for the entire run, based on how much you like their attacks, and I'm almost certain it'll be Rekka, whose slash attacks and AOE sword swings are simply the most effective in the game. The Kagura don't vary all too much between each other, at least initially, and often add more to confusion than to combat versatility.

They will frequently be hard to aim with, positioned in places where you don't want them, and taking great chunks of damage for no good reason. Managing both the Tsurugi and the Kagura effectively can be overwhelming at times, especially against more challenging enemies, of which there are many.

The game also features weapon durability, which can deplete fast, forcing you to either pick up a Grace to make your abilities restore durability, or to switch to your other sword and back, which refills the bar. Given that you can instantly restore it, I feel the durability is somewhat unnecessary and more superficial and tedious than mechanically interesting.

Towa has an incredibly inconsistent difficulty curve, where things are cranked up from 0 to 11 in basically a single stage. In one level, you'd be clearing entire waves of enemies without getting hit or feeling any sort of challenge whatsoever, while in the other a powerful boss will be doing 600 damage per hit, while you have 1200 total.

Additionally, the boss will have so much HP and various defensive AOE abilities that beating them proves more of a chore than a challenge, leading to resets, which can be quite tedious to make up for.

Two characters speaking next to a market building in Towa.
A story mode exists for those who wish to experience Shinju village and Towa's world and characters. Screenshot by Destructoid

As opposed to Hades, where you're expected to clear the game in a single go, Towa has several massive stages you need to beat, with several boss fights and levels before the final fight. Clearing all of these without dying is no small feat, especially in some cases, and dying at the end takes you back to the very beginning, meaning a single stage can take literal hours to clear at no fault of your own.

Mixed with the game's floaty combat, this artificial difficulty becomes more exacerbated, since you'll sometimes get hit or take massive damage without ever really feeling like you did, or that you should have, which is ultimately very frustrating. End-of-stage design also lacks a lot, and doesn't add to the gratification one should experience when defeating a challenging enemy.

Towa, however, does have a story mode for those who don't wish to fight it out, so that's a welcome addition. The story is fairly interesting and, with characters as fleshed out as they are, alongside those other cute, calm, and fun bits of the game, this could prove a significant relief if you've had a negative experience with the combat, or a way through the game for players who just want to kick back and relax.

When all is taken into consideration, Towa is nonetheless a solid game, with visuals and mechanics the likes of which we rarely see in modern video games. If its issues were to be ironed out post-launch, even if it were just a tweak to numbers, this could potentially be a great title. As it stands, though, it's certainly the roughest of diamonds.

Players flying from a ramp in Skate

Skate's map is the key to exploring places and completing objectives, but a bug has been popping up, causing problems for many players.

When it occurs, the bug prevents you from knowing where you have to be next. This is a major bug, as you won't know where you have to be despite knowing the actual tasks. This guide will solve the problem with a simple solution that will make your life easier.

Skate map bug fix

The map bug can happen when you're about to start a new challenge. Ideally, the challenge will begin, and a spot on the map will be highlighted. You'll have to be physically present at the place to start and complete your tasks. But the bug prevents that from happening, which means that you'll have to guess the spot randomly. This is simply impossible to do, and here's what you can do instead.

Social tab in Skate
Screenshot by Destructoid

  • Go to the Social tab from the main menu.
  • The Social tab allows you to invite and play with your friends.
  • You can also choose to spectate someone else who is currently live.
  • You can also teleport to that player's location.
  • The Teleport option will make you spawn to where your chosen player is present, and fix the map. If you open the map, you'll find the highlighted area. While the area might be far from where you're situated, it's still a piece of mind to know where you need to be.

Once done, you'll have to travel to the spot and continue with your missions. There's another bug that can happen and interrupt your mission progression. There's a fix for that as well that you can try out. The map bug fix mentioned here also doesn't require you to restart the game, saving more time in the process.

A glowing orange bug hive stash in fortnite

Story quests are essential tasks to work through in Fortnite, as they keep you updated on what's going on around the island and grant loads of XP. One of the trickier ones you'll come across asks you to break open Hive Stashes to find traces of the swarm energy signature.

You're not given much guidance for this task, so figuring out what Hive Stashes are and where to find them can be tough. If this mission has you stumped, here's how to break open Hive Stashes to find traces of the swarm energy signature in Fortnite.

Break open Hive Stashes to find traces of the swarm energy signature in Fortnite

Items falling out of an orange hive stash in fortnite
Screenshot by Destructoid

To complete the break open Hive Stashes to find traces of the swarm energy signature quest, you need to find and open five Hive Stashes. Hive Stashes are glowing orange sacks that contain a treasure chest and are usually guarded by several bugs.

You can break these objects open by approaching them and pressing the button that appears next to the phrase "Break open," or by simply attacking them with everything you've got. Both methods count for this quest, so choose whichever you prefer. Repeat this process at five different hive stashes to gather the data Hope needs and progress the story quest series.

The traces of the swarm energy can be found in Hive Stashes all around the map, so you don't need to travel to specific locations to find what you're seeking. Most story quests ask you to visit specific locations, but luckily, this isn't one of them, so you can hunt for Hive Stashes wherever you see fit to do so.

Where to find Hive Stashes in Fortnite

Hive Stashes can be found around all bug-infested areas in Fortnite. Main POIs like The Hive, Ranger's Ruin, Dystopian City, and Swarmy Stash are the best spots to check, but you can also find them around smaller bug zones like Outposts. They're often tucked away in small caves, but can also just be out in the open, so focus on looking for a bright orange glow to make finding them easier.

There are plenty of other missions to get done around the island after this one. Next, you might work through the rest of the Egg-cellent Observations story quests, venture to all Power Ranger locations, and work on using an Ascender and a Zipline in the same match.

  • All movesets
  • All weapons
  • All fighting styles
  • All items and accessories
  • All abilities and NPCs tied to them
  • All clans and races
  • All general NPCs and locations
  • Best builds
  • Rankings
  • Update logs
  • And miscellaneous stuff like info on max levels

After Trello I would dive into the official discord server since you can find more specific info there. The chat and question channels are filled with tester players who are experienced about the game and can help you build your character. Usually in these kinds of games you need either a tier list or to ask pros what are the best options.

The Discord also has a log on every upgrade and upcoming updates and announcements. Like with any RPG it pays to keep track of the latest buffs, nerfs and reworks for fighting styles, weapons or movesets. Especially if you plan to do PVP.

That's it for my guide on the Jujutsu Seas Trello board and Discord server. Check out our Jujutsu Seas codes for free goodies.

cookie kingdom world cookie tier list and guide

In all Dandy's World-like games like Cookie Kingdom World there are three main roles which are extraction, crumbles distraction and team utility. I'll be ranking all cookies according to how well they preform across these roles in a team setting and give shoutouts for strong solo potential. Here's my Cookie Kingdom World Cookie tier list and guide.

Abilities & Stats: Note that I will show you all the stats and abilities for each Cookie below in addition to the tier list ranking reasons.

This Cookie Kingdom World tier list will outline the best Cookies in the game and the worst ones for extraction, distractions and overall team utility. S and A are your go-to choices for the main roles, B is for average but still useful cookies and C and D are underpowered. In general there is a problem with 2-Heart Cookies in this game because unlike in Dandy's World with Sprout/Cosmo there's no reliable healer. Popcorn's heal is 5% chance so this makes distractors like Marshmallow and Angel much worse even though they would be A-Tier at least otherwise. That said, let's dive into the individual ranking reasons for all cookies below.

S-Tier Cookies

S-Tier Cookies Why S-Tier Stats Abilities

Stopwatch Cookie
Gacha
• The best extraction ability in the game for both solo and your entire team
• Time this when you're doing two or three machines to speedrun levels
• Great speed and stamina to compensate for the ability debuff
• Can also distract well if you need a distractor when she's not using her ability
• This is due to her great HP, move speed and stamina
• So you get a flexible cookie and an OP team ability, easy S-Tier

Apple Tarte Cookie
Gacha
• An amazing mix of both some of the best extraction stats and a top-tier ability
• You extract hella fast so you can carry your team with a good distractor
• Your ability can straight up do a lot like saving you during extraction
• Also, you can save teammates who are getting chased like your distractors
• And you can also create safe spots for doing risky extractions yourself
• Tons of utility

A-Tier Cookies

A-Tier Cookies Why A-Tier Stats Abilities

Crystal Rose Cookie
Lobby Purchase
• The best extraction stats in the game
• The zone is extremely useful if you don't have a teammate to distract
• It can also be used to save teammates or your distractors
• Would have been S but Stopwatch and Apple Tart simply have even better abilities IMO

Cherry Taffy Cookie
Black Market Purchase
• The best distractor in the game because Cherry Taffy has three hearts
• Also some of the highest speed and stamina with low stealth
• Perfect for pulling crumbles off your team that's doing extraction
• Then you just run away dragging them off with your with aggro and your team is safe
• You can also save teammates with the charge by running into crumbles and stunning them
• Incredibly useful overall and might be S-Tier

Choco Fudge Cookie
Gacha
• If your distractors are for protecting your extractors, then Fudge protects distractors
• Her ability is amazing for stunning crumbles that are going for either your extractors or distractors
• Your team will love you, especially on later levels where it gets hectic
• She also has decent movement speed for distracting herself if your distractor is low HP
• Excellent team utility

B-Tier Cookies

B-Tier Cookies Why B-Tier Stats Abilities

Sweet Serpent Cookie
Gacha
• Has a great ability of doing risky extractions
• That said she's B-Tier or perhaps lower in some cases since her Skill Checks aren't the best
• This hurts an extraction-based cookie a lot

Vanilla Creme Cookie
Gacha
• The stats are mid but Vanilla can be a great team support
• She can buff cookies so that they can move faster to machines
• She can buff distractors so that they are safer when aggroing crumbles
• Also, she's great to buff your top-tier extractors and her ability stacks with Stopwatch
• Overall a decent cookie

Marshmallow Puff & Sunset Angel
Gacha
• Marshmallow Puff and Sunset Angel are incredibly similar in stats, ability and role
• They are both great distractors to pull crumbles off your team while they do risky machines
• Their stats and ability kit are perfectly designed for this so you want one in your team
• The only problem is that they have 2HP and there's no reliable healer yet
• That's why Puff and Angel might sometimes struggle
If you don't have support from Popcorn or Choco Fudge

MP/SA

MP/SA

Popcorn Cookie
Gacha
• Popcorn is great team utility and support that can be your off-extractor
• She supports distractors by slowing crumbles or boosting your team's stamina
• On rare cases she can also heal distractors or teammates missing HP
• That said, while useful, the buff isn't as powerful as A and S so B-Tier is perfect

C-Tier Cookies

C-Tier Cookies Why C-Tier Stats Abilities

Peanut Butter Cookie
Gacha
• Peanut Butter isn't the flashiest cookie but she can still be a useful distractor
• This is because she has decent speed and stamina and 3 HP combined with her self heals
• Plus, her passive is decently helpful for later levels
• Overall not the strongest cookie in the game but

D-Tier Cookies

D-Tier Cookies Why D-Tier Stats Abilities

Pink Lemonade Cookie
Gacha
• Pink Lemonade has mid extraction stats and can be okay at distracting
• That said she's not good at either
• Combine this with the fact that her ability brings no team utility and you're not contributing much
• Can be okay as a beginner solo but otherwise in a team setting she sucks IMO

That's it for my Cookie Kingdom World Cookies tier list and guide. Check out our Cookie Kingdom World codes for free spins and more.

Harley quinn flying in behind the black ranger walking in fortnite

The Power Rangers have arrived to help deal with the bug chaos plaguing the island in Fortnite. These powerful heroes are great allies to have at your side, but finding them can be a bit tricky.

These characters are some of the best NPCs you can find around the island, so knowing where to look for them is useful. If you're struggling to meet up with these mighty heroes, here are all Power Ranger locations in Fortnite.

Where to find all Power Rangers in Fortnite

There are six Rangers you can find around the island in Fortnite, all of which offer unique services. Inetarcting with these characters is crucial for several key quests, so here's where to find each one.

Name Location Services
Green Ranger OXR HQ Offers OXR Patch up and Rift.
Pink Ranger The Hive Can be hired for 600 gold bars and is a Scout Specialist.
Blue Ranger North of OXR HQ Can be hired for 600 gold bars and is a Supply Specialist.
Yellow Ranger South of Swarmy Stash Can be hired for 600 gold bars and is a Medic Specialist.
Black Ranger West of The Hive Can be hired for 600 gold bars and is a Heavy Specialist.
Red Ranger Unknown Unknown

Green Ranger location in Fortnite

The Green Ranger can be found near the north end of OXR HQ. There are a few different NPCs you can meet around this location, so to make sure you're heading toward the right one, head directly to the north end of this outpost. His services are the least useful out of all the rangers, as he offers the same OXR Patch Up and Rift granted by all other NPCs.

Pink Ranger location in Fortnite

The Pink Ranger can be found in a small bug-infested area located near the very south end of The Hive. She's also east of Shiny Shafts and north of Ranger's Ruin. She can be hired as a Scout Specialist.

Blue Ranger location in Fortnite

You can find the Blue Ranger wandering around a small area slightly north of OXR HQ. This location was known as Pumped Power in previous seasons, but is now an unnamed region. This ranger can be hired as a Supply Specialist.

Yellow Ranger location in Fortnite

The Yellow Ranger can be found hanging around north of Foxy Floodgate and south of Swarmy Stash. She's also slightly east of where you can find the Pink Ranger. You can hire the Yellow Ranger as a Medic Specialist.

Black Ranger location in Fortnite

The Black Ranger is close to a gas station that's found west of The Hive. This location is also north of Shiny Shafts and south of Resistance Base. He can be hired as a Heavy Specialist.

Red Ranger location in Fortnite

The Red Ranger hasn't officially arrived on the island just yet, as the community is still working through the final Megazord quest to summon him. When he does arrive, it seems like he'll spawn slightly south of the massive Shining Span bridge, as there's an NPC marker there but no character wandering around that spot just yet. As soon as the Red Ranger is available to interact with, we'll update all details here.

With some mighty heroes ready to fight at your side, you can now get to work tackling tricky quests around the island. Some good ones to work on are talking to Championship Surf Witch about FNCScompleting all Egg-cellent Observations story quests, and using an Ascender and a Zipline in the same match.

A child sim hugging a plush in the sims 4

The Sims 4 regularly rotates in new events alongside expansion pack releases to offer free content available to all players. The next big event is called Forever Friends, and it has plenty of items you can earn.

Although all items included in this event are free, you do need to work through many tricky quests to unlock them. Because of this, you may want to know what can be unlocked before you start working on it to determine if these prizes are worth the effort. Here are all the free items featured in The Sims 4 Forever Friends event.

There are 13 main free rewards featured in the Forever Friends event, plus six smaller collectables. The prizes you can unlock include both furniture items and CAS goodies, offering something for everyone. All of these prizes are themed to go with the arrival of the Adventure Awaits expansion pack, but you don't need to have this DLC to acquire them.

So far, we only have the official event image to go off, so what some of the rewards are is a bit unclear. We'll update with additional details as they emerge, but for now, here's a full breakdown of all items you can unlock.

    • Friendly Bear Plushie – A large monster plush that younger Sims can interact with. This item is granted right away upon logging in while the event is active.

  • Week one

    • Magnet board – A small white board that you can attach Magnet Collectables to.
    • Bracelets – A stack of colorful bracelets your Sims can wear.
    • Recipe – A new recipe your Sims can cook. Based on the picture, this seems to be baked potatoes.

  • Week two

    • Photo frame – A new type of frame you can place your photos in.
    • Tank top – An active style tank top your Sims can wear.
    • Pillow – A decorative pillow you can place around your builds.

  • Week three

    • Bunny light – A glowing bunny holding up a star that emits light.
    • Shoes – A fresh pair of sneakers for your Sims to wear.
    • Leggings – Some simple leggings for Sims to wear.

  • Week four

    • Romper – A romper outfit for Sims to wear.
    • Trait/Aspiration – Either a new Trait or Aspiration, likely for child Sims since the event is themed around them.
    • Onesie – A colorful monster onesie for child Sims.

  • Bonus rewards

    • Magnet Collectables – Small magnets featuring symbols and motifs from The Sims franchise. These will likely be unlockable across each week of the event, with a couple available to obtain alongside the main prizes featured every week. They're also usable on the magnet board you can unlock in week one.

When is The Sims 4 Forever Friends event?

The Forever Friends event is available from Sept. 23 to Nov. 4 in The Sims 4. This gives you about a month and a half to work through it, offering plenty of time to tackle the many missions it has and claim all available prizes.

There's plenty more to explore after learning about these event prizes. Next, you might want to learn about Gibbi Point, get to know all Imaginary Friends, or review all new items and features in Adventure Awaits.
