A new Game of Thrones RPG? Count me in. A new Game of Thrones RPG that's getting a PC beta extremely soon? Count me in for that, too. Game of Thrones Kingsroad may not be the giant, triple-A, make-your-graphics-card-sweat game that we all hoped it would be, but its debut gameplay trailer does show some signs of promise, and you'll be able to try it out for yourself very soon.

Co-op game Transformers Reactivate axed before we could even see any gameplay

If you disregard the very child-friendly Earthspark Expedition and the slightly odd kart racer Galactic Trials, it's been a long while since we last had a proper, AAA Transformers game. Despite being one of the biggest and coolest franchises around, it's been pretty underserved in the 2020s. There has been a glimmer of hope on the horizon thanks to Transformers Reactivate, a promising-sounding co-op action game from the experienced team at Splash Damage. However, the studio has today revealed that it will be ending development on Transformers Reactivate and staff will unfortunately be put at risk of redundancy.

Apex Legends' tap strafe movement has been nerfed, and top players are furious

January 8, 2025 Soon after the publication of this article, Respawn confirmed it would be reverting the changes it made to tap strafing in Apex Legends. The body of this article has been updated to reflect this.

It seems that at least once per season in Apex Legends, another spark appears that reignites debates around PC versus console, controller versus mouse and keyboard, and high-skill players versus casuals. This time, it involves the art of the tap strafe - a movement technique used by some of the battle royale's top mouse and keyboard players to be as agile and slippery as possible. In the most recent update to Apex Legends, a change was made to how frequently you can 'lurch' while tap strafing, rendering it far weaker than it once was. While the majority of Apex players won't be affected by the tap strafe changes, it has angered some of the game's most dedicated and skilled PC players.

Razer's new gaming laptop cooling pad really can boost your frame rate

Razer has just unveiled the imaginatively-named Laptop Cooling Pad, which is a laptop stand that the company claims can boost your laptop's performance. It may sound like an RGB-smothered gimmick of epic proportions, but we just got hands on with it and can vouch for it actually working.

While the best gaming laptops of the world should have enough built-in cooling capacity to maximise their gaming performance, the simple fact of the matter is that they often don't, and even when they do, just resting your laptop on certain surfaces can dramatically affect how well that cooling works. Any sort of laptop stand can help to maximise your laptop's cooling potential, but the Razer Laptop Cooling Pad in conjunction with its Razer Hyperboost feature takes things a step further.

AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT pre-orders could start this month, suggests one retailer

It's looking like you won't have long to wait to get your pre-orders in for AMD's new flagship graphics card. The AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT pre-order window opens on January 23, according to retail site B&H.

While AMD's latest isn't expected to go toe-to-toe with Nvidia's greatest, the RTX 5090, it is still expected to offer a compelling balance of performance and price that should see it make for a strong counterpoint to the RTX 5070. As someone who believes in the ideal of the trim, tidy PC interior, I do applaud the intent behind MSI's Project Zero X. Currently on show at CES 2025, it's a prototype desktop build that uses clever geometry and an unconventional motherboard I/O layout to hide practically every single wire in the joint, for a clean design that's housed for your viewing pleasure within a four-sided glass chamber. It's the closest PCs have come to the simple Victorian pleasures of a nice terrarium, and honestly, good on it.

The problem is that if Project Zero X's components ever actually go on sale, there becomes a non-zero percent chance that I will come into possession of that see-through case. And there is a one hundred percent chance I will ruin it.

Lenovo Legion Pro S Model with a simulated background

Lenovo revealed new models of handheld gaming PCs at CES 2025, which are the Legion Go S and the Legion Go 2. The base model of the Legion Go S is set to release in January 2025, with a SteamOS-based model coming in May 2025. The Legion Go 2 is currently still in development, with a tentative release window set for the end of 2025.

The Lenovo Legion Go S, whether using Windows or the SteamOS, will both feature a choice of two possible AMD Ryzen processors, include 32GB RAM and include a microSD card slot for adding additional storage space. The controller pads for these models will be fused to the hardware and not removable like a standard Legion Go, but there will also be a pair of USB4 ports on the top to add additional control options. The initial base Windows model will start at $729.99 when it launches in January 2025, and other versions will follow and start at $599.99.

The SteamOS variant of the Legion Go S is the first handheld, third-party device to run on Valve's operating system. It features the same hardware specs and functionality like cloud saves and native Steam Library Access. (Someone can also install Steam on a standard Legion Go S to access said features.) This version is expected to debut in May 2025 and cost $499.99.

Meanwhile, the Lenovo Legion Go 2, the successor to the Legion Go, only appeared in a prototype form at the event, but it is expected to release sometime in 2025. The system features an 8.8" display with a Variable Refresh Rate, the AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme processor, dual USB-C ports, and 2TB of SSD storage. This version's TrueStrike controllers are also detachable, just like the original model and Nintendo Switch.

The Lenovo Legion Go S Windows version will release in January 2025, with other versions arriving in May 2025. The Legion Go S Powered by SteamOS will arrive in May 2025. The Lenovo Legion Go 2 is expected sometime in 2025.

Sonic the Hedgehog Speed Cafe

Sonic the Hedgehog Speed Cafe, a pop-up restaurant based on the games, is opening in Georgia. It will be opening in Chamblee, Georgia on January 18, 2025.

The Georgia location of the Sonic the Hedgehog Speed Cafe is the fifth location of the restaurant. It opened in multiple spots across the US prior to this. The first appeared in San Diego, California in 2023. Other locations included a second California spot and one in Texas. It's a collaboration between Sega and the Secret Sauce Society, and as usual the new installation will feature a selection of Sonic the Hedgehog food and merchandise. It will take over the Won Kitchen location temporarily.

The menu for the Sonic the Hedgehog Speed Cafe will, of course, feature chili dogs, along with onion rings themed around the series' iconic rings. Other menu items include the fried chicken Knuckles Sandwich, Piko Piko Tenders, Fast Fries and Green Hill Vegan Chili Cup. New items for the Georgia location include Rogue's Kickin' Chicken Sando (fried chicken sandwich with pimento cheese), Chaos Spear Fries topped with marinara and Drop Dash Cookies (deep-fried Oreos).

Drink items on the menu include Blue Blur (blueberry) and Smashing Echidna (fruit punch) slushes and Team Dark (mocha) and Sweet Amy (strawberry) milkshakes.

Here are some of the items available from the menu:

The Sonic the Hedgehog Speed Cafe will also sell exclusive merchandise, and food will be served in special Sonic-themed packaging. Some of the merch is available to buy through the Speed Cafe's official website.

The opening of the pop-up restaurant comes at a good time for Sonic fans. The release of Sonic x Shadow Generations in October 2024 was met with positive reception and the third Sonic movie, featuring Keanu Reeves as Shadow, is currently doing well in theaters.

The Sonic the Hedgehog Speed Cafe pop-up location will open in Chamblee, GA on January 18, 2025 for a limited time.

Razer Kuromi Collab

Razer has announced a collaboration with Sanrio that will result in a new collection of Kuromi themed accessories. The collection will drop on January 9, 2025.

The Razer Kuromi collection was teased by the company via their social media accounts, although they're keeping quiet about what the collection will contain. However, it's likely that the collection will contain the same items as those released in China in August 2024. These items includes a headset featuring Kuromi's ears, a mouse and keyboard (with wrist rest), mouse pad and speaker. The announcement for the Chinese release did ask what other countries they should launch the collection in, so it's likely the latest announcement is gearing towards a global release. The collection is set to drop on January 9, 2025 at 9am PT.

The Kuromi collection isn't the first collaboration with Sanrio that Razer have worked on. A Hello Kitty collection was also released via their website. The Hello Kitty collection contained similar items, including a headset, keyboard and mouse pad, but instead of a speaker, they released a gaming chair.

Razer has been producing a range of character-based headsets and accessories for other properties too. A Pokemon headset based on Gengar was released in China in October 2024. Similar to the Kuromi collection, the Chinese release was timed with a social media post asking fans what other countries they'd like the headset to be released in.

The Kuromi collection will appear on the Razer website at 9am PT on January 9, 2025.

Black Kyurem and White Kyurem Joining Pokemon GO (1)

Niantic and The Pokemon Company International announced we will be able to catch Black Kyurem and White Kyurem in Pokemon GO. While everyone will eventually get a chance to catch them as part of the Global Unova tour between March 1-2, 2025, they will first appear at the events in Los Angeles, California and New Taipei City in Taiwan between February 21-23, 2025.

Both Black Kyurem and White Kyurem will appear through the new Fusion phenomenon being introduced to Pokemon GO. The Special Research Story will also involve them. These forms first appeared in Pokemon Black Version 2 and White Version 2. Black Kyurem is a combination of Kyurem and Zekrom. Meanwhile, White Kyurem appears when you put together Kyurem and Reshiram. Kyurem will appear after taking part in Raids for the two fusion forms during the Pokemon GO Unova Tour. There is a slim chance it could be Shiny. Reshiram and Zekrom will also appear in raids and could possibly be shiny.

Once you have Kyurem and either Reshiram or Zekrom, you can start the fusion process. You need 30 Kyurem Candy in either case. For Black Kyurem, you also need 30 Zekrom Candy and 1,000 Volt Fusion Energy. White Kyurem needs 30 Reshiram Candy and 1,000 Blaze Fusion Energy. The Fusion Energy is earned from winning Raids with these new additions as the bosses during the tour. If you have all the materials, you can fuse them. When you do, Black Kyurem's Glaciate becomes Freeze Shock, while White Kyurem's turns into Ice Burn. You can turn them back into their separate Pokemon after fusing them, and that doesn't cost any additional materials. However, know that you can only use these fused versions in this game and can't transfer them to Pokemon Home to use in other titles.

In addition to Kyurem being shiny, other shiny forms were confirmed. Bouffalant, Deerling, Maractus, Meloetta, and Sigilyph will be shiny in-game for the first time starting with the Los Angeles and New Taipei City Pokemon GO Unova Tour.

Here's the list of some of the event Pokemon who will also appear. All of them have a chance of being shiny.

  • Axew
  • Cubchoo
  • Cryogonal
  • Deerling (Winter)
  • Drilbur
  • Joltik
  • Karrablast (in eggs)
  • Klink

MegaHouse Naruto GO Figure Features Sakura Haruno as a Child

MegaHouse announced another Naruto figure, and this time it is a Sakura Haruno one that is part of the GO line. She'll arrive in June 2025 in Japan, followed by a worldwide release, and will cost 8,800円 (~$56).

All of the characters in this line feature the characters from the Naruto series as children. (This is similar to the company's One Piece Run Run Run collection.) So for this take on Sakura, she looks younger than she did even at the beginning of the series. Since she hasn't officially started training as a ninja, she has a bow in her hair instead of her traditional headband. However, she still wears a similar red top.

Here's how the figure looks so far:

Sakura isn't the only character in this line. She's the third Naruto GO one to show up. The first was Naruto Uzumaki himself. He's set to appear in January 2025 in Japan. A Sasuke Uchiha one will launch in May 2025. Megahouse even shared a photo of the Sakura and Sasuke prototypes displayed together, to show how their poses could suggest they'd work together as a set.

Here's how the two would look when displayed together:

The GEM Series Sakura Haruno GO Naruto figure will ship in June 2025, and it will be available worldwide. The Naruto and Boruto anime series are streaming on Crunchyroll, while Viz Media handles the manga series outside of Japan.
