I just tested the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070, and yes it can beat the RTX 4090

There's been a lot of skepticism about Jensen Huang's claim that the new Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 is as fast as the RTX 4090, but Nvidia just gave me the chance to try the two cards side-by-side to see for myself, and the result is astonishing. In Marvel Rivals, the RTX 5070 doesn't just match the RTX 4090, it actually beats it. Is there a catch? Why, of course there is.

The secret behind the Nvidia RTX 5070 squaring up to the current best graphics card isn't that the former has more GPU horsepower, but rather that its new Tensor cores support Nvidia DLSS 4. Specifically, the use of multi frame generation means the RTX 5070 can generate not just alternate frames with AI, but up to three extra frames between a pair of rendered frames. We can argue until the cows come home about whether this is cheating or not, but I genuinely struggled to tell the difference between the two test systems I tried at CES in terms of image quality and smoothness.

I tried FSR 4 on a new AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT graphics card, and it looks great

It may have taken several years, but AMD has finally joined Nvidia in the AI resolution upscaling club with FSR 4, and I had a chance to play with the new tech on a new AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT graphics card at CES. The company had two machines set up for a side-by-side comparison, one with FSR 3 and one with AMD FSR 4, and the difference is instantly noticeable.

Of course, the bar was already low here. AMD might be able to say its FSR tech works on any GPU, but Nvidia DLSS has always had the upper hand when it comes to image quality. Now, however, it looks as though AMD has finally nailed the formula with FSR 4, at least from our time with it at CES. There are some caveats, though, one of which is that the tech currently only works on the company's new GPUs, such as the AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT.

The Pokemon Company International also already mentioned how many of certain types of cards we can expect. There will be the four aforementioned Trainer's Pokemon ex cards. There will also be 16 standard ex ones. 11 will be illustration rare ones, six will be special illustration rares, and three will be hyper rare gold etched.

On the anniversary of Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, Square Enix shared the second entry's BBS teaser and a Tetsuya Nomura message.

To commemorate the 15th anniversary of Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep (BBS), which launched on January 9, 2010 in Japan, Share Enix once again shared the secret ending video from the second game and a message from Tetsuya Nomura about the series. At the end of the statement, the director suggested that we still have yet to hear about what the Lost Masters gained and lost when they met at a crossroads in Kingdom Hearts III

First, here's the full Kingdom Hearts II secret ending, which marked the first appearance of Kingdom Hearts BBS heroes Aqua, Terra, and Ventus. In it, all three were wearing full suits of armor, meeting at X-shaped crossroads while grabbing their keyblades.

https://twitter.com/KINGDOMHEARTS/status/1877279264544010265

And here is the full Tetsuya Nomura statement in which he discussed the importance of crossroads in the Kingdom Hearts series and hinted that we still haven't heard the story about the Lost Masters yet.

There are two Kingdom Hearts games in development that we know about at the moment. One is Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link for mobile devices. That was supposed to launch in 2024, but ended up delayed. The other is Kingdom Hearts 4, which was teased at the end of the third entry.

Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep first appeared on the PlayStation Portable worldwide, and it is now available on the PS3, PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and PC via Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 Remix.

Dr Stone Science Future Starts Season 4 With Refreshers

It's a big moment for followers of the Dr Stone anime adaptation, the Science Future season 4 debut happened on Crunchyroll. It's the start of an end of an era, albeit one that will be a bit drawn out due to this last leg of the journey being released in three parts.

Editor's Note: There are some minor spoilers for the first episode of season 4 of the Dr Stone anime.

Things kick off in Dr Stone Science Future with a brief refresher from Minami Hokutozai, in the event it's been a while prior to the viewer jumping into season 4. We're reminded that everyone on Earth ended up petrified thousands of years ago. Senku Ishigami was freed, and decides to begin reviving people to create a new scientific society. It mentions how previous seasons followed Senku reviving more people and making more discoveries, leading up to them all building a ship to cross the Pacific Ocean. The goal is to head toward San Francisco to find out about the petrification and build a space ship to head to the moon. This also serves as a means to reintroduce Senku, Minami, Tsukasa, Gen, Suika, Kaseki, Chrome, Kirisame, Kinro, Matsukaze, Ryusui, and Ginro. It's an effective way to review allies and get their thoughts on the what happens next.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JxaJXnWDAN8&ab_channel=Crunchyroll

I appreciate that after that review, Dr Stone Science Future gets right back to, well, science. Once we revisit everyone's thoughts on things and are reminded of what's going on, we find Senku and Ryusui fighting about the course of the ship. Ryusui is proposing the Rhumb Line approach, which would go straight across from Tokyo to San Francisco and take 70 days. Senku then explains one that would follow along the coasts would be wiser, and people go to a globe with a rope to see how his answer is right. It would be 40 days on the Great Circle Route.

It really gets into part of what I love about Dr Stone as a series. There are times when it will include these sorts of educational elements and actual science in a fun way. Senku's personality is perfect to excuse sorts of explanations. Plus, in the case of this dispute here, we get to see the possible benefits of both the Rhumb and Great Circle options due to Ryusui and Senku being so intelligent.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pkMgTN4Joi4&ab_channel=Crunchyroll

At the same time, this first episode's direction and adaptation means it can be quite entertaining. The choice about how to head to America is a serious one. The points about the routes are valid. But settling things with Poker and the ensuing outcome of the game is handled so well. Plus, it ends up tying into an on-ship activity.

I suppose there isn't much progress in this episode. The first installment of the anime is really more about setting the stage for what's next with season 4 of Dr Stone. But the execution makes it feel like a lot still did happen. I feel getting back into things with a more lighthearted episode that refreshes the viewer, sets the stage for things to come, and gives us a chance to see characters enjoying their momentary victories is especially welcoming seeing as how we're nearing the end.

The first part of season 4 of Dr Stone, Science Future, is streaming now on Crunchyroll, and past seasons of the anime are also available there. Viz Media handles the manga outside of Japan.

Run For Money Hunter VS Runner - Playing as a Hunter

D3 Publisher has revealed that it will release a new Run For Money video game for Nintendo Switch in Japan in 2025. The new game's full title will be Run For Money: Hunter VS Runner! On Which Side Can You Win!?

The company added that this new entry will be the first-ever game adaptation in the series to feature a Hunter Mode. Prior releases in the series, including the remaster of the 2015 3DS entry that appeared on the Switch in late 2018, only let people play as the participant runners just like the original TV show.

The new Hunter Mode will let players become a Hunter who is tasked to chase down and apprehend all runners within the abridged time limit of 15 minutes. Hunters can collect scores based on how fast they capture a runner in each of the five stages available.

The new Run For Money game will also support split-screen multiplayer with up to 4 players and online sessions with up to 12 players. A full online session can have up to 4 Hunters and 8 Runners.

Run For Money: Hunter VS Runner! On Which Side Can You Win!? will be available for Nintendo Switch in Japan in 2025. This game will take inspiration from the Run For Money show that has been airing on Japanese television since 2004. People worldwide can also watch one of the shows on Netflix, which has been available since November 2022 as Run for the Money.

Watch the Kenny Omega AEW Entrance Theme by Soken and Uematsu

Ahead of Wrestle Dynasty 2025, Kenny Omega announced his new "Take Flight" entrance theme involved Final Fantasy composers Masayoshi Soken and Nobuo Uematsu, as well as FFXIV singer Jason Charles Miller, and now All Elite Wrestling (AEW) uploaded the full song and video on YouTube. While someone might not see it in its entirety ahead of a match, this version is over four and a half minutes long.

Masayoshi Soken is the composer for the track and, while he's best known for FFXIV, he's worked on a number of Final Fantasy games and other Square Enix titles. For example, one of his most recent works was FFXVI. While Nobuo Uematsu is renowned for his work as a Final Fantasy composer, here he contributed a "special voice" to the song. JC Miller, who sang the FFXIV theme songs "Close the Distance," "Shadowbringers," and "To the Edge," contributed vocals here starting at about the one minute mark. Many of the themes and instrumentals call to mind past entries in the series. Likewise, the fires behind Kenny Omega's name and logo also resemble ones associated with characters like Sephiroth.

Here is the full Kenny Omega AEW "Take Flight" entrance theme. While it debuted at Wrestle Dynasty 2025, it's been used since then as well.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=akfueXN1rxU&ab_channel=AEWMusic

As a reminder, in the past Kenny Omega has dressed as Final Fantasy characters for matches. He dressed as Sephiroth for NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17 in 2023. He also took part in the Like a Dragon Gaiden AEW match

Taito will reveal a new Groove Coaster game for Nintendo Switch

Taito has announced that it is working on a brand-new Groove Coaster rhythm game for the Nintendo Switch. The company will reveal the new title on January 30, 2025.

The new game will add another entry to the Groove Coaster series, which launched first on mobile devices in 2011. The series has also been available on PC and Nintendo Switch, and Taito has announced over 7 million downloads combined from all aforementioned platforms worldwide as of January 9, 2025. Groove Coaster is also available in arcades, but Taito has ceased supporting the platform due to storage space limitation issues.

The presentation event will go live on January 30, 2025, at 7:30 PM JST (5:30 AM ET). After revealing the new game, the event will continue with a live DJ performance by Ryutaro "Ryu☆" Nakahara, who is also known for his contributions to Konami's Bemani game series.

The revelation of a new Switch game will, however, raise a question about the ultimate fate of Groove Coaster: Wai Wai Party, which has been available on the same platform since late 2019. Taito has been regularly adding new content to the game for over five years. Many of those are crossovers from other franchises, such as Square Enix's The World Ends With You. The latest update for Wai Wai Party on December 19, 2024, added the Hololive Vtuber Shiranui Flare along with her song "Zenryoku Jumping!" and Hololive Fantasy's "Reality Fantasy" among others.
