It's real tough to be proud of one's American heritage at this moment. But that's not what we're here for. Independence is ours to define and right now, as you may have heard, this very site is celebrating a kind of independence day of its own. More on that later, I'm sure.

In an exclusive interview with PCGamesN, Studio Wildcard co-founders Jesse Rapczak and Jeremy Stieglitz reveal what it's been like to finally inject some original content into Survival Ascended and discuss some of the new features and innovations the highly anticipated DLC will bring.

The big story of this week has been Microsoft's huge round of layoffs, which have impacted several teams and projects under the Xbox Game Studios banner. That includes Zenimax Online Studios, the developer behind the hugely successful The Elder Scrolls Online, which has seen an upcoming MMO scrapped. New details have now emerged about the project, codenamed Blackbird, which was reportedly a sci-fi noir third-person shooter with dynamic movement mechanics - and just a matter of months ago, a vertical slice allegedly wowed Microsoft's gaming chief Phil Spencer.

Fresh retail data from one German retail source suggests that gamers have little interest in 8GB models of new GPUs, with the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16GB model outselling the lower capacity model by as much as 16:1. This gap widens when looking at the AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT, where the 16GB model is outselling the 8GB model at a ratio of almost 30:1, but with fewer cards sold overall.

While both of these budget GPUs occupy our list of the best graphics cards, with both fighting for the attention of gamers looking to spend less than $500 on a new GPU. We specifically recommend the 16GB VRAM models over those with just 8GB. Now, it seems as though gamers are also favoring the higher VRAM capacities, and it's not hard to see why.

Anthem remains one of the most infamous live service games ever launched. Known for its outstanding, narrative-driven single-player games, Bioware took a punt on a co-op shooter, but the gamble didn't pay off. It had (and still has) its admirers, but Bioware and EA were quick to call it quits and end support. Since 2021, the game has sat in purgatory - playable, but without any updates or new content. However, Anthem will soon die a full death, as Bioware has just announced it will be shutting down the game's servers in January 2026.

Nijisanji Vtuber Enna Alouette Sings Digimon Alysion Theme Song

Bandai Namco shared the English and Japanese theme songs for Digimon Alysion, the new mobile trading card game, and Nijisanji Vtuber Enna Alouette sings it in both languages. The track is called "Firebird Girls." Both versions' music PVs are on YouTube. The performer also commented on the situation on social media and expressed her excitement about it.

The music video PVs are identical, with only the track being different over each one. So we see the same gameplay footage each time. Here's the English version of the Enna Alouette song:

And you can hear the Japanese version of the Nijisanji Vtuber singing the Digimon Alysion theme song below:

While there's no release date for this Digimon mobile card game yet, it is possible to already get an idea of how it works. Bandai Namco is at Anime Expo 2025 with the title. It has demo stations and statues of characters from the game at booth SF-12. It's also possible to get a sticker based on it if you attend, take a photo of the booth, and talk to people staffing it.

Digimon Alysion is in development for mobile devices. Anime Expo runs July 3-6, 2025, and that takes place in Los Angeles, California.

New Bishoujo Figures Are Kula Diamond, Yuri Sakazaki, BB Hood, M3GAN

Kotobukiya revealed five Bishoujo figures at Anime Expo 2025, with three being Kula Diamond, Yuri Sakazaki, and a new Roaring Lightning Orochi Shermie from KOF, one being BB Hood from Darkstalkers, and the final character being the horror line addition M3GAN. The company also started taking pre-orders for the KOF 97 Orochi Leona Bishoujo variant that debuts in March 2026.

Of the four The King of Fighters Bishoujo figures, the Leona and Shermie ones are based on KOF 97 designs and the Kula Diamond and Yuri Sakazaki ones are based on KOF XV. The Orochi Leona is furthest along. It will debut in February 2026 in Japan, then March 2026 worldwide. That costs 16,500円/$129.99. The Kula, Shermie, and Yuri ones are still early-on, as only the initial illustrations by Shunya Yamashita that will act as the concept art for each one's design appeared online.

Here's how all four of those look so far:

The original Shermie showed up in February 2024, and Leona Heidern version appeared in Japan in April 2025.

BB Hood is a little further along, as the Darkstalkers Bishoujo figure showed up as an unpainted prototype in its update. Kotobukiya showed the Yamashita art again, so people could compare the figure design to the original concept.

Finally, the M3GAN figure is at the same stage of development as BB Hood. Her unpainted prototype showed up, and the Shunya Yamashita art appeared again to offer a reminder of the progress.

Anime Expo 2025 runs July 3-6, 2025, and it takes place in Los Angeles, California.

Zoids Xeno Rex Test Type-01 Evangelion Model Kit Pre-orders Open

Another Zoids Synergex crossover model kit got a release date, as the Xeno Rex Test Type-01 figure based on the Evangelion Eva will debut in April 2026. It will cost $56.99. This looks like a standard type of Xeno Rex Zoid. However, all the colors and design elements are based on Eva 01 from both the original anime and Rebuild films.

Here are the initial images that showed the assembled model kit and some of the display options. For example, we see how a pilot can be inserted into it, with an entry plug or Shinji Ikari-style one present. Some of the weaponry, like a knife and guns, are shown. Its mouth can open and close.

This is the second recent Zoids model kit release reveal, as Kotobukiya opened pre-orders for one that lets people build a woman inspired by Blade Liger. That comes with a small Zoid you can transform into equipment for the figure. That will debut in Japan in January 2026, then show up worldwide in March 2026.

The Zoids Xeno Rex Test Type-01 Evangelion model kit will launch in April 2026, and pre-orders are open until July 29, 2025. The anime is on Netflix, and the Rebirth of Evangelion movies are on Amazon

Death Stranding 2 Sam crying shower

Death Stranding 2, like its predecessor, is a game that is polarizing for many. When you "get it," like I and many others do, you simply just feel it on an indescribable level and appreciate each of its head-scratching intricacies. If you didn't "get" the first game, the sequel likely won't change your mind.

But for those with an open mind willing to give a truly original story and gameplay loop a genuine try, DS2 feels like the culmination of everything Kojima has wanted to do in his open-world games, creating something that feels like playable art when at its best.

Keep on keeping on

From a gameplay perspective, DS2 improves on the original in many ways. The gameplay missions feel more varied in structure, offering changes of pace every now and then as opposed to consecutive delivery missions where you're walking for a few dozen minutes at a time.

Like in the first, you're encouraged to make the journey easier by constructing roads, ziplines, vehicles, and other additions to the post-apocalyptic world to help yourself and others. It's always a joy to see a new construct pop out of nowhere, as it was made by another player in the living world, really driving forth the "connection" that Kojima was looking for in the series. It's this feeling of working together with strangers where a lot of the game's satisfaction and joy comes from, at least for me.

A strategic approach is both encouraged and necessary for many of the game's missions, whether you're carrying important cargo over a mountain, infiltrating a base filled with ghost robot enemies with coffins on their back, dealing with giant mechs, or sneaking past horrifying and ghostly BT's so they don't overwhelm you.

Unfortunately, combat in DS2 still feels a bit wonky, but it's still not the main focal point of the gameplay. Some missions require stealth, while others require a head-on approach, but you have to be careful in how you conduct yourself in the game so as not to actually kill any other human being and create a nuclear bomb-like Voidout that will render an area of the map unplayable for a time.

While the combat leaves a lot to be desired, the rest of the game's seemingly passive gameplay segments where you deliver packages or rebuild society scratch an itch that's difficult to be explained, and won't resonate with everyone, even if a lot of it feels a bit dumbed down to appeal to more of an audience than the original game captured.

Whimsical and nonsensical, but poignant

Fragile and Tomorrow conversation in Death Stranding 2
Screenshot by Destructoid

Death Stranding 2's story is as weird and unique as it is thought-provoking and emotional, bringing forward allure that made the original worth playing in spite of its gameplay that often felt lacking. Sam Porter Bridges' journey throughout Mexico and Australia is full of predictable twists and turns, but I still felt a lump in my throat throughout most of it.

The majority of DS2 is not a happy game, so be prepared for some heavy themes and imagery as you make your way through Sam's 30-plus-hour-long story. Plot points include loss of human life, grief, violence, personal tragedy, isolation, and depression as you attempt to navigate the world around you and connect people together in an effort to bring the world back from the brink.

Set against these serious themes, though, are the silly oddities and weird characters Kojima is known for. Returning characters like Fragile, Deadman, Heartman, and the villainous guitar-playing Higgs are joined by wild newcomers like Tarman (an old man who is able to navigate a massive airship through tar), Dollman (a spirit medium whose soul got inexplicably got trapped in a puppet), Rainy (a pregnant woman who can control the rain), and Tomorrow (barefoot Elle Fanning) in what may be Kojima's oddest adventure yet.

Among the many people you meet along the journey in DS2, there's also a pizza maker who teaches you a special melee attack, a VTuber you deliver packages to, and several real-life friends of Kojima who he scanned into the game, like the band CHVRCHES. It's just wacky.

Still, the desire to progress through DS2's story and reach its emotional, stunning, and mind-bending conclusion is what drives you to finish each delivery, and "keep on keeping on" as the environment seemingly crumbles around you, and Sam, too.

Death Stranding 2 vtuber

The world of Death Stranding is one of the most unique and original creations in recent years, so I will always be happy to revisit it and its characters, especially considering that Kojima Productions' utilization of Guerrilla Games' Decima Engine has created what's arguably one of the best-looking titles ever made. Every environment character is richly vivid and realistic, and truly something to behold on a PS5 Pro.

Listen closely and intently

Kojima's love of music and the soundtrack of his life is brought to fruition in DS2 with a music player that Sam can take on his journeys, but the most impactful songs happen as you're traveling through the world on a lengthy journey.

These specific tunes are timed for moments in the game and pop up when you least expect them (or when you most need them after or during an arduous task), triggering all sorts of emotions and offering a reprieve from the sometimes-monotonous delivery driver journeys through the expansive landscapes of Mexico and Australia.

The game's score accentuates these moments, composed once again by the talented Ludvig Forssell, utilizing the ultra-heartbreaking "BB's Theme" from the original game at its most crucial points to drive me to tears. It helps to evoke some deeply personal feelings and emotions that not many other games have been able to.

Phoenix and Blade battling side by side in Marvel Rivals

A new season begins anew in Marvel Rivals, advancing the storyline and adding new heroes Phoenix and Blade to the ever-expanding roster of playable characters.

Season 3 of Marvel Rivals, The Abyss Awakens, moves the story forward with Knull's awakening on Klyntar. To combat the God of the Symbiotes, the heroes have enlisted the Phoenix Force, wielded by Jean Grey. Knull, meanwhile, has enlisted Goddess of Death Hela to his cause.

The story is all fine and good, but all of this means that we're getting a bunch of banger new outfits for the heroes to wear in season three and beyond. Here's what we know so far about the new costumes in Marvel Rivals season 3.

Additional skins were shown throughout the Dev Visions video, including Blade utilizing both a Symbiote and the Phoenix Force, Phoenix Force Magik, and Knullified Hela. However, their acquisition methods are currently unclear, so new information will be needed to confirm how to unlock them.

It's likely that more skins will be revealed in the days leading up to season three, so stay tuned for official info.

As the video shows, Phoenix is a ranged Duelist who fires hitscan blasts out of her hands, meaning the projectiles will immediately hit the target, similar to heroes like Hela, Punisher, Black Widow, Luna Snow, Star-Lord, and Adam Warlock, and not projectiles that need time to travel.

Her Shift ability, like other heroes in the game, is movement-based, allowing her to dodge incoming fire or utilize the Phoenix Force to take temporary flight, while her Right Click activates an AOE explosion on enemies that she has hit with her primary fire. Her E ability merges her with the Phoenix for big buffs.

Her ultimate ability allows Phoenix to launch into the air and crash into the ground with an impact that will deal damage but also destroy all summons, like Rocket Raccoon's beacon or Peni Parker's spider mines, effectively clearing the battlefield.

It also appears that the ultimate has a 20-second timer on it, which sounds like a lot, but we'll see how it feels once she becomes playable.

Two Strikers facing each other in Mecha Break

Mecha Break has a pretty smooth matchmaking system that allows you to play with strangers on the internet, but you can also play in the same squad with your buddies.

As of writing, the PVP-based mecha shooter is available on PC and Xbox consoles. With built-in crossplay, you can play with your buddies irrespective of whether you're all on the same platform or different ones. But to do so, you'll need to add one another and become friends inside the game.

How to add your friends in Mecha Break?

You can add your friends using the Comms menu, which is located at the bottom left of the main lobby. This section allows you to send invites to your friends using their account name. The process is the same regardless of whether they're on PC or Xbox.

The Comms section in Mecha Break
    Screenshot by Destructoid

Your display name is shown beside your profile picture at the top of your screen. You can either send it to your friend or use their name to send them a request. If both of you are on Steam, you can simply add each other on the platform. Then, open the Steam friend list from inside Mecha Break to add your friend to the same group. This will bypass the requirement of manually adding each other as friends inside the game.

How to create a group in Mecha Break?

The Recruit section in Mecha Break
    Screenshot by Destructoid

If you don't have friends to add to your party, you can still play with other people (instead of random strangers). To do so, you'll have to recruit them to your team by using the Recruit button. This button is placed above the play button (aka Strike on the main screen).

You can also use this option to join a team created by another player. Teams are based on the preferred game mode and languages. This ensures proper communication (which is key to winning) and the fact that every member of the team is on the same boat when it comes to the preferred game mode.

    Gunplay in MindsEye

MindsEye, the worst-reviewed game of 2025 and one of the worst games of all time, failed because its studio, Build a Rocket Boy (BARB), was beset by "internal and external saboteurs," a new report claims. BARB's chief executive also wishes to relaunch the game and go on a "redemption arc."

According to a July 3 report by IGN, who spoke with developers at BARB, Leslie Benzies, the studio's head and the former president of Rockstar North, issued a video address to staff members where he claimed that MindsEye failed as a result of internal and external sabotage, "among other things." The report goes on to state that Benzies "insisted BARB would bounce back and relaunch MindsEye" at some point in time.

Staff also told IGN that the studio does actually have a strong desire for "a MindsEye redemption arc," which is as of yet questionable due to potential layoffs that IGN's sources say are looming over the studio.

    Mindseye drone combat screenshot
MindsEye is one of the worst-reviewed games of all time, and nothing short of a No Man's Sky-level redemption arc could save it. Image via IO Interactive

The fact that Benzies reportedly believes that MindsEye was sabotaged and not an overambitious, overmarketed failure is laughable at best. It appears that rushed development, no review codes or proper playtesting, ruined the game, rather than any sinister attempt at shutting it down.

Even in the bits that do work, MindsEye is nothing more than average, offering little in the way of innovation in a genre that is as oversaturated as possible, where only GTA itself makes any sort of worthwhile strides.

At this point, given how badly the whole situation was handled, I don't think any sort of redemption arc can save the game. No Man's Sky took half a decade to pull through, while Cyberpunk 2077, even with CDPR's massive teams, needed some four whole years to become the game it was always meant to be.

MindsEye would need a decade at least, if not more, its huge employee number notwithstanding.

How to pre-register for Destiny Rising

    • Click on Pre-register now.
    • Choose the platform of your choice.
    • Select your phone model from the available options.
    • Select your region.
    • Add a relevant email based on your platform.
    • Agree with the Privacy Policy.
    • Complete the process.

Once done, you should get a confirmatory mail in your inbox, and all you need to do is wait for August 28.

Anthem is likely staying on store shelves for a long time

After more than six years on life support, Anthem, that one EA sci-fi game that no one knew was even alive, is finally shutting down its servers. EA is officially closing up shop on Jan. 12 next year, meaning Anthem will have been online for nearly seven years straight.

"After careful consideration, we will be sunsetting Anthem on January 12, 2026," EA's July 3 announcement reads, with the company adding that those who still wish to do so (for whatever reason) can play the game over the upcoming six months. At the start of next year, however, what's done is done, and Anthem is going offline.

Premium currency purchases will also be suspended as of July 3, while players who already own them, if there even are any, can spend them by January if they wish. Likewise, those who already own the game at the moment can download and play it at any point before the cut-off date, so if you're sad to miss out on one of gaming's biggest busts, now's the time to do so.

The only question in this whole ordeal is: what took EA so long? Image via EA

What's more, and interesting in the wake of the Stop Killing Games Initiative's European Citizens Initiative crossing its one-million signature threshold, is that Anthem will not be playable at all after its servers go down next year. EA justifies this by saying that the game was meant to be an online-only experience and that without the online component, "the game will no longer be playable."

Though this last bit is unsurprising to say the least, given the absolute state of the AAA industry, I have to say that I am utterly shocked to hear that Anthem is still kicking six years down the line. The game suffered a dreadful launch back in 2019, and I've heard little of it since, believing it to have been taken offline ages ago, much like some other disastrous live service games.

It seems that wasn't the case, but soon will be, and I guess there is someone out there sad about this. Maybe. Probably not, though.

Lupa, as seen in Wuthering Waves.

Given her title as Septimont's biggest star and ability to turn all in her path to sinders through pure Resonance Liberation DMG, it was no surprise that Lupa would arrive as one of the best Fusion units in Wuthering Waves.

But as she won't be entering the arena solo, her team-dependent buffs and debuffs might make the star gladiator a bit demanding. Here's the best Lupa build in Wuthering Waves, and a few teams sure to awaken her true fire.

The best weapons for Lupa in Wuthering Waves

Her signature 5-star, Wildfire Mark, is by far the best weapon for Lupa and will offer her both 48.6% CRIT DMG and a 12% ATK boost from the get-go. It's passive, then allows her to boost her Resonance Liberation DMG by 24% and provide the whole party with a 30-second-long 24% boost in Fusion DMG (all at rank 1).

If you don't have the resources to get her signature, Jinhsi's Ages of Harvest and Jinyan's Verdant Summit are then the next best picks via their passives, as well as their 24% CRIT Rate and 48% CRIT DMG boosts, respectively.

    Best F2P choices

If you don't have a premium broadblade in your arsenal, Lustrous Blade is the best F2P option and offers Lupa an up to 21% increase in Liberation DMG. Its 12% ER increase can also be huge when in quick rotations. Regarding 4-star picks, the game's Battle Pass-exclusive Autumntrace can be a worthy alternative if you don't have any 5-stars, mainly via its 20% CRIT Rate boost. To recap, here are the best weapons for Lupa and how to get them in Wuthering Waves:

Weapon (Substat) Reasons Why How to Acquire
    1. Wildfire Mark (CRIT DMG) Her signature pick. Offers an unmatched boost in both personal and team-wide DMG. Gacha (Limited)
    2. Verdant Summit (CRIT DMG) The runner-up for the best weapon spot. Offers the same amount of CRIT DMG as Wildfire Mark and a useful Heavy Attack boost. Gacha (Limited)
    3. Ages of Harvest (CRIT Rate) A great alternative for those looking to boost her DMG. Its passive might be wasted. Gacha (Limited)
    4. Lustrous Blade (ATK) The best F2P weapon for Lupa via its massive ATK boost. Its ER passive also helps when in quick rotations. Standard Gacha. It can also be acquired by choosing it as your free 5-star Weapon Supply Chest pick.
    5. Autumntrace (CRIT Rate) The only 4-star broadblade to offer a CRIT substat. Pioneer Podcast (Battle Pass)

The best Sonata and echoes for Lupa

Lupa's best Sonata in Wuthering Waves is a full Flaming Clawprint set. Apart from its 10% Fusion DMG increase, the set allows her to provide the whole team with a 15% Fusion and 20% Resonance Liberation DMG boost following Fire-Kissed Glory (her Liberation). To put it in perspective, that allows Lupa to get an up to 45% Fusion DMG increase if paired with the full effects of Pack Hunt (without counting echo stats).

To further boost her DMG, we will then be using Lioness of Glory as our main echo in the well-known 4-3-3-1-1 formation.

We recommend that you go with CRIT for Lioness of Glory, with the stat being either opposite to that of your chosen weapon or CRIT DMG (if using Lustrous Blade). For the remaining echoes, go with duos of Fusion DMG Bonus and ATK%. Among substats, focus on CRIT Rate and DMG until you reach at least 70/250% before shifting your focus to Liberation DMG Bonus and Energy Regeneration.

Best Lupa teams in Wuthering Waves

As you need a full Fusion team to awaken the full effects of Pack Hunt and Applause of Victory, the best Lupa team features her as a Liberation DPS/buffer set to take on the field in small intervals to perform Fire-Kissed Glory and trigger all of her effects before making way for Changli as its main DPS or Brant as its healer. Ideally, you want to send both of the above to the field after Lupa to trigger Burning Matchpoint and speed up her Wolflame generation in the following rotation.

If you don't have Changli or Brant, Encore can be a great pick for either slot, although she won't be able to offer Lupa the former's 25% Liberation DMG boost or provide healing. Pairing Encore with Chixia can also work if you failed to acquire any of the featured units above. To recap, here are the best premium and free-to-play teams for Lupa in Wuthering Waves:

    • Lupa + Changli + Brant: Lupa's premium team, capable of dealing massive damage, getting the most out of her buffs and debuffs, and offering unmatched survivability.
    • Lupa + Changli + Encore: A hyper-offensive variation of the above. Has another huge source of Liberation DMG in Encore.
    • Lupa + Encore/Chixia (R6) + Brant: Works in the same fashion as our main team. Here, Lupa will take on more field time.
    • Lupa + Chixia + Encore: The most F2P-friendly alternative team for Lupa. Has Chixia as a replacement for Changli.

Now that you know how to awaken Lupa's true might, we also highly recommend that you check out the latest Wuthering Waves [WuWa] codes for a welcome boost of Astrite.
