July 12, 2025: We're searching high and low for new Pet Sim 99 codes.

June 27, 2025: We're kicking off the weekend with a renewed search for new Pet Sim 99 codes.

What are the new Pet Simulator 99 codes? If you're lucky (and timely), getting a bunch of free gems in Big Games' 2023 pet collecting game can be as easy as typing a few letters into a box. We expect PS99 codes to become increasingly rare as time goes on, perhaps even being tied solely to physical merch like plushies, lucky bags, and playsets. We've seen it happen before.

Pet Simulator 99 is the third Pet Simulator Roblox game from Preston and Big GAmes. Though it hasn't replaced Pet Simulator X codes directly, it gets the big updates these days. July 12, 2025: We're looking for new Steal a Brainrot codes for the Lucky Blocks update and the Crab event.

The Emperor's Caretaker Volume 3 Gets Into Obligations and Love

While we could tell from the very start that The Emperor's Caretaker manga would eventually involve a romance between Linhua, one of the caretakers for the series' child emperor and his regent Souren. However, Ichiha Hiiragi and Aya Shouoto's story initially prioritized establishing life in the palace, Linhua's role, and professional relationships. It's only in the third volume that things start to actually get into different types of obligations that come from the jobs people have or their positions in families. As a result, we're finally getting the lovey-dovey moments suggested and teased as these other elements play out.

Editor's Note: There will be spoilers for volume 3 of The Emperor's Caretaker manga below.

What I love about The Emperor's Caretaker volume 3 is that, while this is the point in the manga when it gets to the romance elements, it still is focusing on folks' personal, professional, and familial obligations. Linhua and Souren are getting their moment toward the end. However, in the lead-up we are seeing how even though he's a child, Emperor Zhiyou can be called upon to rule a kingdom and see what happens with the Li family chancellor. We also get another glimpse at what life is like for Linhua as a daughter of the Liu family and how that familiar obligation influences her life and future.

In the case of Emperor Zhiyou, the example is an especially trying and pivotal moment. Throughout the volumes, we've seen him start to connect to his brother Souren finally, thanks to Linhua's influence. They've build up a real relationship, and that's highlighted as this volume begins. But because of Chancellor Li's actions throughout the three volumes, it hit a point where there need to be repercussions for his actions. And while the man is clearly a villain, he's always been kind to Zhiyou and acted like something of a grandfather to him. So we witness a small child going through more of his royal training, then being forced to act against someone he likely loves. It's striking. Especially since we also see Rui, said chancellor's son and a person Linhua's father considered as a politically advantageous marriage candidate for the her for the Liu, debate against doing what's right and filial piety.

Obligations to family and expected roles in society play a big part in Linhua's storyline. From the start of her series, Linhua's father has been trying to get her married off. It's how she even ended up as Emperor Zhiyou's caretaker in the first place. With what happened to the Li family and Rui possibly jumping in power, we're seeing him see an opportunity. Which means she's concerned about leaving a job she loves for a marriage she's forced into. It's especially interesting to see how, at this point in the story, we're getting to see her on the verge of possibly taking steps toward everything she could want.

Things are really in motion in The Emperor's Caretaker volume 3, as the manga is establishing a challenge to the comfortable position Linhua holds, a possible future with Souren, and an emperor who is gradually growing up and developing as a ruler. While I don't think we'll see Zhiyou become a major force by the end of the series, seeing him preside over a ruling her feels like foreshadowing. So does Linhua and Souren making a commitment and hints that, while the two probably have a future together, other obligations might pose challenges along the way.

Volume 3 of The Emperor's Caretaker is available now, and Square Enix will release volume 4 of the manga on September 9, 2025.

Sea Turtles and Seals in RimWorld Odyssey peeking out of the ocean

RimWorld''s Odyssey expansion brings plenty of new content for the players to explore, and Fishing is undoubtedly going to be a top priority task for many (including me).

The new DLC introduces plenty of animals to the world of RimWorld, which also includes aquatic creatures. Just like your four-legged friends on land, you can catch the aquatic creatures with the help of the Fishing activity. However, you can't just land on a planet and start the activity instantly. Let's take a look at how to fish within the new expansion.

How to start fishing in RimWorld Odyssey?

You'll need the new Odyssey expansion if you want to fish inside the vanilla version of RimWorld. Once done, you'll have to create a new scenario and start a fresh save. Fishing is locked for all players, but you can unlock it pretty easily from the Research tab.

The Fishing node in the RimWorld Odyssey research tab
Screenshot by Destructoid

Once complete, you'll have to take your Gravship and land on a planet (assuming you started in orbit). Next, you'll need to go to a water body, which can be a lake, a pond, or the ocean itself (if that's available on the planet where you've landed).

How to catch an aquatic animal in RimWorld Odyssey?

Fishing as an activity isn't restricted to fish. When you observe the water bodies, you'll find creatures like Turtles popping up their heads from the water. Incidentally, Fishing depends on the Hunting skill, and not on Plants and Animals. Usually, colonists with a high Shooting skill rating should also be good at Hunting.

Once you unlock Fishing, assign a mark to an area as a fishing spot. Your colonist will automatically go and start fishing (unless you manually restrict him from the activity). You can also fish with the help of certain animals like Penguins and Otters. If you have tamed them, they will automatically fish when they're around a fishing zone.

Fishing is beneficial if you're in a terrain where it's tough to grow crops. You can generate different food items from the fish that you catch, which range from different types like Tuna, Bass, and more.

BitLife Maleficent Magician challenge

We're becoming magicians in BitLife's latest challenge, Maleficent Magician. Starting as an average American female, you'll climb your way to stardom and even marry into the royal family this time around. Get ready because this one is far more difficult than usual.

BitLife Maleficent Magician challenge guide

BitLife's Maleficent Magician challenge has five objectives to complete:

  • Be born a female in Nevada
  • Become a famous Magician
  • Murder two or more people
  • Emigrate to the United Kingdom
  • Marry into the royal family

You won't need any special career packs for this challenge. However, having the Hollywood Star will make its second task much easier to complete. Similarly, having the criminal special talent from the Mafia pack can make the third objective slightly easier. Nonetheless, you can finish both tasks without spending any money if you prefer a free-to-play route.

Be born a female in Nevada

The first part of BitLife's Maleficent Magician challenge is to be born a female in Nevada. To do this, select female as your starting gender, the United States as your country, and Las Vegas as your place. Since Nevada itself isn't listed as an option, choosing its most populous city is your next best bet.

BitLife Nevada
Screenshot by Destructoid

Optionally, you can choose crime as your special talent to help with a later task. You don't need to do this if you don't have access to it, but it is an option if you want to make the process slightly easier.

Become a famous Magician

After creating your character, age up until you're ready to get a full-time job. From here, head into Occupation and search near the bottom of the list until you find a magician role. If it doesn't appear right away, close and reopen the BitLife app or age up and recheck the list.

BitLife magician role

Once you become a Magician, work hard and adjust your weekly hours to 50 through the Occupation menu. Doing this will significantly boost your work performance, making it easier to become famous. From here, age up until you get a pop-up message telling you you're a famous magician.

Although you can move on to the next task immediately, I recommend using this time to raise some funds beforehand. More on this later.

Murder two or more people

The most challenging part of this challenge is getting away with two elimination attempts. To do this, head into Activities, Crime, and Murder before picking anyone you wish. You'll need to succeed twice for this task. You can either try this with BitLife's vanilla mechanics or purchase the Assassin's Blade to make every attempt successful automatically.

BitLife murder option for the Cursed Killer challenge
Screenshot by Destructoid

To raise your odds of success, pick two random victims that you have no relation to and choose inconspicuous methods like drive-by or poison. There's still a chance the police will catch you, so you might try to run away to avoid punishment. The victim may also retaliate, which can end your run if you're unlucky.

Emigrate to the United Kingdom

The easiest task in this list is to emigrate to the United Kingdom. If you gain a criminal record through the previous objective, you'll have a much harder time accomplishing this. Otherwise, head into Activities, Emigrate, and refresh the list until you see the United Kingdom.

Marry into the royal family

The last part of BitLife's Maleficent Magician challenge is to marry into the royal family. While this was previously extremely difficult to accomplish, you can now use the Celebrity Dating App to filter your options to only royalty.

BitLife celebrity dating app menu
Screenshot by Destructoid

However, this is an expensive venture, as each attempt costs $100,000. If needed, spend some time working as a magician and using your fame to make extra money. That way, you can afford multiple attempts without worrying about working extra. After dating a royal for some time, the two of you can get married and wrap up the challenge.

Once you become a famous magician, commit some crimes, and become a royal in the UK, you'll complete BitLife's Maleficent Magician challenge, open a mystery prize box, and claim a cosmetic reward for future characters.

Phoenix in Marvel Rivals Season 3 as a brand new character

Marvel Rivals Season 3 brings plenty of new skins and changes to the existing characters, which also means that the tier list has already started to look somewhat different.

Season 3 has two new characters for players to try out in the form of Blade and Phoenix. While the vampire slayer arrives in August, Phoenix is already available in the roster. However, there are over 30 characters we inherit from launch and the older seasons. Let's take a look at how all the characters hold on in the current meta.

Disclaimer: Phoenix has yet to be assessed.

Complete Marvels Rivals Season 3 Hero tier list

Phoenix's splash art in Marvel Rivals
Screenshot by Destructoid

Keep the following points in mind when looking at this tier list:

  • I mostly play alone in solo queues, which is different from playing in a team. Doing the latter ensures better communication, which mostly translates into better results.
  • I am a Strategist main, with my secondary being Vanguard. While I do play with DPS units occasionally, my skills with them aren't as good as they are with someone like Luna Snow or Venom.
  • Your rank has a direct correlation with the tier list. At higher ranks, certain low-tier units can also be used more since the average skill level of the players is higher than at lower ranks.

S-Rank

Hero Role Reason
Dr. Strange Vanguard He still continues to be strong in the poke meta. His Shield of Seraphim is the best shield in the game, and his buffs in Season 2.5 made it easy to carry games with him. Unless the meta radically shifts in the second half of the season, he is a pretty good choice for Vanguard mains.
Magneto Vanguard Magneto might be the hardest Vanguard to use, but he's amazing in the current meta. His abilities have longer cooldowns, but he can still one-shot 250 HP units. Yes, you'll need a lot of practice to learn the combo chain, and you have to be accurate with your shots. If you're a beginner, it's better to choose another tank. For the initiated, Magneto is pretty much the best choice without a doubt.
Hawkeye Duelist Coming up against a good Hawkeye is almost a nightmare following the double buffs over the course of Season 2. He can still one-shot every Strategist and Duelist, but again, this is a character fit for someone with great aim. You'll have to land your shots to make them out and get as many headshots as possible. If you can master him, Hawkeye can easily carry you to Diamond and above in Season 3 (even if you solo queue).
Hela Duelist Just like Hawkeye, you'll need to understand Hela's abilities properly before you run in with her. She has one of the strongest ultimate moves of the game as The Goddess of Death adds a 1000 HP shield, and gives her an accurate view to eliminate opponents with AoE attacks. Her potential team-up with Loki makes her even stronger, and a perfect choice in Season 3.
Namor Duelist Namor remains strong in the current meta, especially when you team up with a Hulk. His auto-firing turrets are perfect counters flying units who can dive easily. You'll have to be precise with the locations of the turrets, but I don't see him losing ground in the current season.
Luna Snow Strategist Luna Snow continues to be the best healer in the game. Her heals are easy to apply, she does decent damage, and you can also heal if you manage to stun an enemy with the snowball. She can two-shot squishy enemies (they're headshots), which converts her into a great hybrid. I still feel that she's better suited in a team that communicates well to ensure that the Ultimate doesn't go to waste.
Rocket Raccoon Strategist Barring the limited range of his weapon, Rocket excels in every other department. For starters, he has a relatively smaller hitbox, and he is very mobile thanks to his abilities. A good Rocket on the team will buff all his allies before the start of a fight, and continues to provide AoE-based healing to the team. He is a perfect Strategist for beginners due to how easy it is to learn and master him.
Loki Strategist I wasn't entirely convinced whether I should place Loki on the S-tier list. Much can go wrong with the God of Mischief, as his kit isn't the easiest to master. You'll have to excel at placing your illusions strategically and constantly switching positions to stay unpredictable. He is a great choice for experienced support mains, and more over, his kit has everything you need to carry: good damage (combined with his illusion), great heals, ability to escape tight situations, and enough in the tank for self-preservation.

A-tier

Hero Role Reason
Venom Vanguard The symbiote is back with a Season 3 buff, and he is definitely a good tank to consider. While you'll still have to land the skill shots with your basic, his kit set now offers better chances at survival. The first few rounds with him felt significantly better than my results in Season 2.5, and he could eventually go up to S-tier once I have tested him more.
Emma Frost Vanguard Once the best tank in the game, her nerf feels close to heart. Emma still does what she used to do well, but she's extremely flexible. Her shields are unique, and her basic attacks fit right into the poke meta. However, Diamond form feels weaker than what it used to be, which could make her a slightly less optimal choice, especially in solo queue.
Hulk Vanguard Exceptionally strong tank that gets even better with Namor on the team. Requires a lot of skill to land the jumps accurately, which makes him slightly inferior in my books.
Groot Vanguard The Guardians of the Galaxy star continues to remain a safe topic, with a pretty no-nonsense approach. He has always been an easy hero to learn, and a great pick when you're defending objectives. His ultimate, when with the right allies, can wipe the entire opposition, and completely change the tide of a battle. Had he not gotten the nerfs back in 2.5, Groot could easily have been considered in the S-tier.
Peni Parker Vanguard A good Peni is a S-tier character, since she has received multiple buffs in Season 2. Her team-up with Spider-Man is irritating for any opponent, and her nests will force enemies to waste their time clearing those out. However, her Ultimate isn't really the strongest, making her struggle slightly at top-Elo games.
Black Widow Duelist In the higher ranks, Black Widow is at best a B-tier character. However, she's one of the easiest characters to learn the game, and she does decent damage. Her ultimate means almost guaranteed kills, and the rest of her abilities fit well with the poke meta. She also has good one-shot potential (like Hawkeye), but her moves are easier to land compared to most other Strategists.
Star-Lord Duelist Star-Lord isn't the easiest hero to master, as you'll need good reflexes and aim training, but putting in the effort is worth it in Season 3. His abilities haven't been nerfed, and he's the perfect dive character to take out the backline. His Ultimate, Galactic Legend, has top-notch damage that can take out all squishy characters even if they're at full health.
Punisher Duelist Punish is the easiest DPS to master for beginners, and his kit has a bit of everything on offer. You can just use his assault rifle to shoot enemies from a distance, or switch to the shotgun to take down enemies from close range. He also offers a seated turret that can clear out space on the map if there are too many enemies in the same location.
Storm Duelist She's a great pick in the poke meta due to her abilities, although she's not exactly top-tier due to the older nerfs. Compared to the likes of Hela, Storm is better played close to the ground, as her effectiveness relies on her allies. That said, you'll need to have good aim with her, or else, the struggle will be real.
Invisible Woman Strategist Invisible Woman is arguably the best hybrid in the support role despite a previous nerf to her barrier. She can heal and protect her allies while dishing out decent damage to enemies. However, she's a mechanically difficult hero to master, and her primary fire has a limited range (that doesn't exactly do well with the current meta).
Ultron Strategist Ultron is still in a unique position as a flying Strategist. While he was almost broken to use in Season 2.5, he has been nerfed in Season 3. However, his Ultimate still remains immensely strong at dealing enemy damage and healing allies at the same time. His basic attack is also pretty powerful, and the fallout damage can wipe squishy enemies.
Cloak and Dagger Strategist Cloak and Dagger might no longer be what they were in Season 0, but the Season 2 ultimate buff greatly raised her on the meta. She's a good choice for beginners as her primary fire has auto-target, while Dark Teleportation has a very low cooldown. However, most characters in the top two tiers can counter them (however, they still pack punches as long as you know what to do).
Mantis Strategist Mantis makes up for her lack of complete healing by nuking enemies. She has the highest damage potential among all support characters in my book, but you'll have to be careful about timing your heals. Running out of it at the required moment can be absolutely game-changing, and not in a positive way.

B-tier

Character Role Reason
Captain America Vanguard Captain America is almost unique in how he can rush into enemy backlines despite being a tank. His shield can even deflect enemy Ultimate, which is also very good in strategized gameplay. Unfortunately, his abilities have been nerfed, which has made him pretty weak compared to previous seasons.
The Thing Vanguard While he has received a buff in the new season, The Thing becomes toothless as he can't counter flying units. He also needs a lot of heals from the team's Strategist to unlock his true potential.
Thor Vanguard He almost feels like a hybrid who neither excels at being a tank nor a DPS unit. He also lacks protection from CC attacks, and he is overshadowed by other tanks in the current meta.
Human Torch Duelist While he is a S-tier unit in the top elo, Johnny Storm is extremely hard to control for beginners. His abilities have long cooldowns, and wasting them will leave you without any backup at all.
Iron Fist Duelist Decent DPS character that has unfortunately been nerfed to the ground last season. There are better alternatives if you're looking for someone who can flank the opposition Strategists.
Mister Fantastic Duelist Interesting character who has an easy way to buff his health and take on unaware enemies. Unfortunately, his Season 2 buffs are yet to undo all the previous nerfs. In good hands, he is still a very good character.
Psylocke Duelist She is arguably one of the best flankers in Marvel Rivals. Her Ultimate can be countered by the likes of Luna Snow (very popular in the meta), which makes her rank one tier below. If your opposition doesn't have a Strategist that can heal with its Ult, Psylocke automatically moves up one tier.
Winter Soldier Duelist Bionic Hook is one of the best abilities available to DPS characters, but the Poke meta doesn't quite suit him. If the meta changes in the future, he could rise up one tier at least.
Wolverine Duelist Wolverine can be put up at S-tier because he can take down a Vanguard on his own. Unfortunately, you'll have to flank the opponent, solo them out, and then land your combos. It's just too much work, and chances are that someone else will take you out as you try to execute your grand strategy.

C-tier

While I won't write too much about the C-tier characters, there are better alternatives for all the roles. You can pick them if you either main or you love playing as these characters, but do know that these aren't top-tier selections in the current meta.

  • Black Panther (Duelist)
  • Iron Man (Duelist)
  • Magik (Duelist)
  • Moon Knight (Duelist): Can be considered A-tier if you're an absolute beginner, but completely unsuitable on higher Elos.
  • Spider-Man (Duelist, will have to be assessed more due to recent buffs)
  • Squirrel Girl (Duelist)
  • Adam Warlock (Strategist)
  • Jeff the Land Shark (Strategist) (We have had enough of you spitting players out of the game. Try something else).

July 12, 2025: We're looking for new Steal a Brainrot codes for the Lucky Blocks update and the Crab event.

What are the latest Steal a Brainrot codes?

Volume 3 of The Emperor's Caretaker is available now, and Square Enix will release volume 4 of the manga on September 9, 2025.

haru urara umamusume horse

With the global release of Cygames's Umamusume: Pretty Derby, interest in horse racing and the real-life horses that inspired the characters like Haru Urara has risen in the English-speaking community. The inspiration behind her is still alive today in Japan. Fans can visit and feed the actual horse Haru Urara, though they'll have to obey guidelines when doing so.

Haru Urara is living out her retirement at the Matha Farm in Chiba. To meet her, you'll need to make a reservation with the ranch. According to Twitter user tarutaru_mage, openings for these reservations start without warning the month before, and they fill up fast. You need to make a reservation before going to the ranch, so plan accordingly if you wish to make the trip.

Cygames also published guidelines to follow when visiting horse ranches in Japan. You can read the entire document on the game's official website. In short, you should practice common sense when dealing with large animals like horses, such as not touching them, not making loud noises, and not feeding them.

For those who aren't in Japan and don't plan on visiting the country any time soon, but still wish to support the real-life Haru Urara, you can still do so. The Namabokuso Bank service in Japan lets you purchase a 5-kg box of pasturage to horses, with Haru Urara as one of them. It costs 6000 JPY ($40.50) to do so, and you can also set it to do so monthly. As of the time of writing, over 2180 kg of pasturage have been sent to Haru Urara. Many of the most recent comments from supporters are in English, and make mention to Umamusume: Pretty Derby.

Umamusume: Pretty Derby is readily available on the Windows PC and mobile devices. The original anime is on Crunchyroll, while Cinderella Gray streamed on Amazon.

All skaters in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3+4 Remake

With Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4 officially out, one'd expect it to pull in some pretty nice numbers, considering these two games are considered classics. However, that is far from the truth, as it seems their day-one Game Pass launch has botched their numbers on other platforms.

As Steam's numbers show—and we all know that numbers never lie—Game Pass peaked at a little over 2,200 players on its launch day (thanks SteamDB). Suffice it to say that this is less-than-stellar, as it also implies poor sales overall. If we go by Steam's reviews and the one review in every 30 players method, the game sold about 12,000 copies on Steam, give or take. Though that's an estimate, the player count really doesn't help its case.

And we could call it a gaming tragedy, one of many, if it weren't part of a broader new pattern that has emerged alongside Xbox's day-one Game Pass launches. It appears that almost every game launched on Game Pass at the same time as other platforms, its numbers are significantly botched, both in terms of concurrent players and copies sold.

Game Pass borderline kills game releases with its day-one launch

Avowed cover art
Avowed's alleged success seems to only have occured on Game Pass. Image via Obsidian Entertainment

If a game launches on Game Pass and other storefronts simultaneously, its numbers go down. This is a plain and simple fact of life. The only way they wouldn't be is if it's a game that shadow-dropped or was too big to not sell well across all stores, such as the Oblivion Remaster, which Bethesda launched everywhere at once (without so much as mentioning it coming).

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4 presents one example, whereas Avowed tells an even worse story. That game comes from a big, first-party, reputable studio that produced numerous well-selling games in the past. From Fallout: New Vegas to Outer Worlds, Obsidian is by no means a stranger to good sales. Even its Pillars of Eternity franchise drew in a ton of players across all platforms, and particularly Steam, which is no surprise given how much emphasis Obsidian puts on RPGs (a traditionally heavily PC-oriented genre).

However, Avowed peaked at less than 20,000 players on Steam during its heyday. It has some 10,000 reviews on Valve's store, implying 300,000 copies sold. A good number, but far from what Obsidian usually achieves, which is more often than not in the six figures.

Despite this, the game bragged about having a ton of "players," and was labelled a "success." There were even claims it had nearly six million players total across Steam, Microsoft Store, and Xbox. Given that "only" 300,000 or so of those were on Steam, we can safely assume most of the remaining five and change million were on Game Pass, enjoying the game for "free" as part of their monthly subscription.

Yet another huge game, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, also attained some four million players according to claims, but only ever peaked at 12,000 on Steam, selling an estimated 450,000 copies.

The numbers speak volumes here and imply that Game Pass completely wrecks games' sales as, logically, people prefer not to pay full prices (up to $80 these days) when they can access a nearly limitless library of games for the low, low price of 15 bucks per month.

So what's the solution?

Yasuke and Naoe in fighting stance
AC: Shadows, too, was ruined by Ubisoft's own subscription service. Image via Ubisoft

In this era of live services and subscriptions, everything is moving toward some sort of reduced product ownership. If stuff continues down this path, we might start getting Game Pass only releases, where we need to be subscribed to access any given game.

This is a grim and dark prediction, though, and I think the solution would be for developers to simply stop putting their games on Game Pass day one. Releasing a game over there isn't bad in and of itself, but even a few days on the active market could help to generate a ton of sales. Players who really want to play your title will do so and not wait for a Game Pass launch.

So long as these services exist (and this includes every subscription-based service, not just Game Pass), we will continue seeing such phenomena. Even outside of Game Pass, we saw Assassin's Creed: Shadows plummet in sales but get a ton of players via Ubisoft's own subscription service, meaning the issue is quite far-reaching.

Who knows where these things will end up? Maybe Stop Killing Games will have an impact?

What do you think, Destructoid? Should games launch on Game Pass day one? Is Game Pass, alongside other subscription services, killing game releases and sales? Let me know below.

Team getting ready for the start of a game in College Football 26

Smart Routes function is a new addition to College Football 26, and using it at key moments will help you to unlock the opposition defenses better.

Last year, we were introduced to College Football 25 and the pre-snap tweaks on offer. The Smart Route system is an extension of the Hot Route, and it offers more freedom for you to decide what you want to do on the field. This guide will help you to understand the new system better and use it efficiently during your attacks.

How do Smart Routes work in College Football 26?

Typically, your receivers run based on your pre-assigned strategy (the play you have called). You can either make your receivers follow the original play or make changes. With Smart Routes, you don't have to switch the entire play. Instead, the game will automatically alter the route of your assigned Receiver to make it easier for him to reach either a first-down marker or the beginning of an endzone.

This feature allows you to fine-tune how your receivers are running, and the greater micro-management is also pretty helpful in certain situations. For example, it will often prioritize your Receiver reaching the first down marker before doing any unnecessary movements. You will primarily be using Smart Routes when your Receiver has to run a shorter distance (initially) compared to making them travel over longer distances.

Using a Smart Route can be key to scoring more points, as the game automatically forces your Receiver to prioritize receiving the ball or getting a first down in play to keep possession and advance the team's offense. However, you'll have to know when to use this new strategy, since it's a double-edged sword at times.

Pre-snap play selection in College Football 26
Screenshot via EA Sports

How to use Smart Routes in College Football 26?

The controls for assigning a Smart Route are pretty simple in College Football 26.

  • Select your passing play in offense.
  • Don't snap. Instead, press your Triangle/Y button to open the list of available receivers.
  • Select the Receiver you want to assign a Smart Route to.
  • Open the Receiver's route screen, then press R1/RB to assign a Smart Route.

Continue with the play, and your assigned Receiver will follow the path set by his Smart Route (instead of your pre-defined passing play). Once you have assigned the route, the Receiver will call out an audible confirming your decision. Ultimately, it's all about when you want to use this strategy, which can be the deciding factor between success and failure.
