Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Thursday, January 15, 2026 5:57 AM There are two blue wolves inside you. One is actually a hedgehog, prone to loop-the-loops and drowning in caves. The other one is actually a dolphin, who is also prone to loop-the-loops and drowning in caves. Clarification: when I said you I meant me. I'm referring to my own squalid psychological architecture as a Sega Mega Drive player with vivid memories of Sonic the Hedgehog (especially the Star Light Zone) and Ecco the Dolphin. While Sega's pugnacious pinball mascot continues to star in videogames of all flavours, poor Ecco has been absent from screens since the early noughties. No longer: this year shall be the year of Ecco. Developers A&R Atelier – whose members include the character's original creator, Ed Annunziata – have declared that they are working on "several" new Ecco things, including a videogame. No, I won't accommodate any criticism of my framing here. If we can have a year of Luigi and a year of Shadow, we can have a year of Ecco. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Thursday, January 15, 2026 5:52 AM You might be aware of the great Disco thrupening, or quadrupening depending on how you classify things. Over the past couple of years, a number of new studios have loudly hoovered up various ex-Disco Elysium devs following internal conflict at ZA/UM, and announced games that aim to rebottle the RPG's lightning. One such studio is Londgue, who recently told me their partially-crowdfunded RPG called Hopetown now has a playable intro, despite quietly switching narrative leads last year. |

Oh, this is where a bunch of the original Black Flag's sea shanties have just been reuploaded, potentially providing yet another hint that we're all soon bound to be playing that long-rumoured remake of the pirassassin adventure! This sudden influx of classic ditties might not have meant much in a vacuum, but it follows many reports about the badly kept secret that is the remake and a PEGI rating that's about as close as you can get to a seal of approval short of Ubisoft finally giving up the ghost anmd revealing the thing themselves. |

The newest update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons has added a new building to your island, the hotel. Here you can decorate the rooms and earn a special currency for new items.
How Do You Access the Hotel in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?
Getting to the hotel in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the easy part. Load up the game as normal, and as part of her regular morning updates, Isabelle will inform you that a hotel has appeared on the island's pier.
To clarify, though, this is the not the welcome pier where Orville and Wilbur are stationed, this is the fishing pier located on one side of your island. Simply head there and you'll find it's extended to include the hotel building.
What Can You Do in the Hotel in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?
The purpose of the new hotel in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a new gameplay mode focused on decorating hotel rooms. When you first enter the hotel, Tom Nook will greet you and introduce Kapp'n's family, who are working together to operate a new business. There's just one problem: they need someone to decorate the rooms.
This is your job, and on your first day you'll be able to decorate the first two rooms, with later rooms opening up on successive days. Speak to Leilani at the front desk and she'll take you to each room. For the first room, she'll provide a theme, but for all subsequent rooms, she'll offer you a choice of two.
Decorating the hotel rooms is exactly the same as decorating your house. However, when you go into the items menu, Leilani will provide some recommended furniture pieces for the theme. You are free to arrange these items however you choose, but it's best to stick with the recommended ones. Once you're happy with your arrangement, use your phone camera and take a picture. I preferred to use the handheld camera by pressing the – button but it's up to you how you choose to do it.
Once you've taken a picture of the completed room, speak to Leilani and select "All done!" to exit back to the main hotel.
What Do You Get For Decorating the Hotel Rooms?
As you complete each room in the hotel in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you'll earn Hotel Tickets. These can be used to purchase a range of exclusive items, with the catalog expanding over time. Initially, you'll be restricted to a few hotel themed items, but as you take part in hotel activities, the range increases. These additional items include a selection of retro Nintendo consoles.
In addition, random villagers will arrive and stay at your hotel. They can be visited at any time by using the stairs at the back of the lobby, which provides an overview of all the rooms. Some of these guests can also be seen wandering around your island, so you'll regularly have a chance to meet some new faces.
Update 3.0 for Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.

The Lone Wold and Keeping in Simple achievements are pretty hard to complete in Gambler's Table, but you can do so together in one run with a simple trick.
To complete them, you'll need to finish a few preliminary ones. This guide will lay out all the essential steps required for finishing the achievements.
Table of contents
How to complete the Lone Wolf achievement in Gambler's Table
The Lone Wolf achievement requires you to earn $1 billion without a single helper. Flipping all the coins on your own isn't going to be easy. You'll need to get some systematic upgrades, but more on that later.
How to complete the Keeping it Simple achievement in Gambler's Table
The Keeping it Simple achievement requires you to earn $10 billion, but only using copper coins. You can use helpers if you want, but that will stop you from finishing the Lone Wolf in a single run.
How to complete Keeping it Simple and Lone Wolf together
To start, you'll need to unlock the following five skills.
First, you'll need to wait till the coin turns green. Turn it when it's green, and you'll get $3,000. Buy as many Copper Coins as possible with the amount. Repeat the process a few more times till you have plenty of Copper Coins.
Next, you'll need to get the Quick Flip upgrade and choose the Copper Coins under 'Ignore Hovering'. Once the thief shows up, click on him, and then deselect the Copper Coins. Hover over the Copper Coins until there are no more green ones. Again, add the coins to 'Ignore Hovering' and wait for the next thief to appear.
Keep repeating this process until you have completed Lone Wolf. The process is slightly chaotic and boring, but it's the easiest way of finishing Lone Wolf. Once done, buy and upgrade helpers to hit $10 billion with Copper Coins and complete Keeping it Simple.
Completing the two achievements will also unlock their respective tables as rewards.

Mithril is the hardest metal ore to find in Hytale, and it's a relatively endgame resource by current standards. While obtaining it is a challenge in itself, Mithril will allow you to make the best armors and weapons you can get in the game.
This guide will list down the easiest ways of obtaining Mithril, and also highlight how to effectively use it.
Table of contents
Best Mithril locations in Hytale
The best spot to find Mithril is Zone 4, which is arguably one of the most dangerous places in the entire game. You'll specifically want to search the volcanic regions (or fire zones). Look deeper into the cave walls, and you will find Mithril embedded in them.
You can also find them in underground areas. If you try to extract Mithril in Zone 4, bring the best possible gear. This area has plenty of strong enemies that are hard to take down for beginners. Only approach when you've improved your build.
Zone 4 also has a skeleton boss. Defeating him drops different loot, which can also include Mithril. Again, you'll need proper gear to complete this challenge. You can also find Mithril appearing randomly in the Whisperfront Frontiers biome, but they spawn sporadically. The Whisperfront Frontiers biome is a better source of Cobalt instead.
Important note: I only found Mithril in Creative. I am unsure if it's available in the Exploration mode as of writing. If you, my reader, have found any in the Exploration mode, please let me know in the comments.
How to use Mithril in Hytale
You'll first need to have a Furnace to convert the raw Mithril to Mithril Ingots. You'll also need a source of fuel for the process. Once done, you can then use Mithril to make the following items.
While Mithril might be hard to obtain, the armor pieces using them have the best defensive stats. If you're getting ready for the endgame content, you're going to need Mithril.
