Change is usually a good thing, but it can be hard to walk away from a winning design. That’s the conundrum that must have faced Samsung as it planned its Galaxy S26 Ultra smartphone, unveiled at its Unpacked event this week alongside the S26 base model and Plus.

The S25 Ultra was so good that to have messed with it too much would have been self-defeating — so, sensibly, the new Ultra is more of an iterative upgrade over its predecessor in most regards. But wait! Because it has a secret weapon in the form of its new Privacy Display, a genius upgrade that has to be seen to be fully appreciated — and fortunately, you can do just that via our video below.

Apple may well face the same dilemma when it (almost certainly) refreshes its MacBook and iPad lineups next week. Will it also have a clever innovation or two up its sleeve? Let's hope so.

Meet the Galaxy S26 Ultra (Future)

Samsung unveils the Galaxy S26 series, and more

What happened? Samsung unveiled its Galaxy S26 phones at its Unpacked event in San Francisco. TechRadar was there, and we've already had some hands-on time with the new Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26 Plus and Galaxy S26 Ultra. We're impressed by the phones' new AI tools, and very impressed by the Ultra's innovative new Privacy Display — but we do think the series is still missing a few features.

We also got new earbuds, in the shape of the Galaxy Buds 4 and Galaxy Buds 4 Pro — for more takeaways from the event be sure to read 9 things we learned at Galaxy Unpacked.

What didn't happen? One thing we didn’t see was a Galaxy S26 Edge, but Samsung confirmed that the Edge is still very much in the company’s plans, so a new super-slim Galaxy might well be on the cards for later this year. The company also announced a bold plan to out-AI Apple with a new, Google-powered Android OS.

Resident Evil Requiem ‘superbly blends edge-of-your-seat survival horror with intense action’

Dash Wood has spent a good chunk of this week playing Resident Evil Requiem, the ninth mainline entry in the behemoth survival-action video game series — and it hasn’t disappointed, with its dual-protagonist setup and careful balance of tense horror and bombastic action. It also runs beautifully on the Nintendo Switch 2’s modest handheld console specs.

Elsewhere, Becky Scarrott thinks Huawei’s new FreeBuds Pro 5 are “hands-down Huawei's best buds yet”; Jennifer Allen tested the Commodore 64 Ultimate, and was delighted to find that it took her back to very first days using a computer; Josh Russell was blown away by the staggering speeds and precision of the Asus’s ROG Raikiri II controller; and Simon Lucas feels Philips’ affordable hi-res speakers are marred by overstated bass.

Apple TV’s Monsterverse drone show wowed, the 2026 BAFTAs shocked, and more

Ahead of today’s Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2 premiere, Apple TV lit up Hollywood with a record-breaking 500-foot Godzilla. Also this week, Netflix dropped out of the battle for Warner Bros. Discovery, leaving Paramount as the likely winner — although US regulators still need to approve the deal. On-screen, the entertainment world was stunned by Robert Aramayo’s 2026 BAFTAs win for I Swear, which will be streaming on Netflix soon. What we expect to see at Apple's March event

As mentioned, Apple has the chance to grab some headlines of its own on Wednesday when it holds its March event. Apple keeps a tight lid on these affairs, but Tim Cook has promised "a big week ahead," and through a combination of rumors and guesswork we've come up with a list of 5 things to expect, including M5-powered MacBook Pros, the iPhone 17e and a couple of new iPads, among other things — and we'll be there to cover it all.
