square enix pop-up store

For a limited time, Square Enix will open ‌a pop-up store in Terminal 2 of Narita Airport. It will be open from April 3 to September 27, 2026. [Thanks, PR Times!]

The promotional image uses Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy mascot characters dressed up like pilots in airport-like locales while an airplane flies overhead. For Dragon Quest, a Slime is the pilot, and for Final Fantasy, it's a Chocobo. Those won't be the only two games with merchandise at the store, though. The Square Enix pop-up store will also have items for franchises like Kingdom Hearts and NieR.

New items at the pop-up store will feature the key visual of the Slime and Chocobo pilots. You can get:

  • A5 notebook: 1760 JPY
  • Acrylic keychain: 1430 JPY
  • Sticker: 550 JPY

Some items that the pop-up store will stock are:

  • Acrylic stand - Cloud: 1650 JPY
  • Card sleeve #SQ kawaii: 2200 JPY
  • Chocobo knitted plush: 4180 JPY
  • FFXIV miniature acrylic block collection: 400 JPY
  • Kingdom Hearts pin collection: 858 JPY
  • Kuplu Kopo plush: 2970 JPY
  • NieR series acrylic badge collection: 770 JPY
  • Slime balloon mascot keychain: 1540 JPY
  • Slime squishy: 1320 JPY

The above items actually came out already, but some of them, such as the knitted Chocobo plush, aren't in stock via the official online store.

As a note, TGS 2026 will run from September 17 to 21, 2026 (with public days starting from the 19th). This means that the Square Enix pop-up store might be the perfect place to hang out at after arrival if you wish to travel to Japan for the show this year.

The Square Enix pop-up store will appear in Narita Airport from April 3 to September 27, 2026.

A pirate stranded on a beach in Windrose

The developer of Windrose, the massive pirate survival game that dominated Steam's recent Next Fest, informed fans today on what the team is working on following its highly successful demo. And the good news for fans? It's looking incredibly promising.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JN7VeNtXRM8

Though reception to the demo has been positive—with Windrose seeing over 1.5 million wishlists, according to the developer update—the team has been paying attention to all manner of feedback, and has thus far pointed to various quality-of-life improvements that will emerge before the game's final release:

  • Co-op on one ship — manning the cannon: Players will get to have their friends man the batteries.
  • Loot variety: No more fixed loot. No one will have the same adventure twice, and more difficult enemies will hold better loot.
  • Richer co-op: The team explained that while the game is made primarily for a four-player co-op experience, it will try to increase the co-op limit to eight players in case they want to "probably steamroll everything laughing hard, but that's fine if that's the way you want to have fun!"
  • Hold to gather resources: As an alternative to clicking, the devs are working with an optional experimental way of gathering materials just by holding the desired button.
  • FOV slider: A field-of-view slider will be added to the game.
  • Shanties feel: The sea shanties will be beefed up by the vocal work of "coarser, less melodic" backing vocals to make the game feel more pirate-y.
  • Signal fire: Players have been using bonfires as lighthouses, so now they're creating a specific signal fire-building element that players will be able to see from miles away.
  • DLSS/FSR support added
  • Controller improvements: Windrose is meant as a keyboard-and-mouse experience, but the team is now working on making playing the game via controller more fun.
  • Dismantling workbench: To make surviving easier, players will now get to build a workbench that allows them to dismantle unwanted items and recover their base materials—but not the resources possibly invested into upgrades.
  • Target lock switch: Players will now get to cycle between targets by swiping the mouse across them, or by binding hotkeys that allow them to switch between targets in four directions.

Windrose Crew also stated that this is a work-in-progress list and that more additions will likely follow.

Windrose challenges players to go from rags to feared pirates, with all the shipwrecked crafting and survival that goes in between. The game does a great job of that, but the most important element is the naval battles, which are possibly the most fun in any game of its kind up to date.

Pirate games tend to fall into one of two categories: massive critical and commercial hits like Sid Meier's Pirates, the Monkey Island series, Sea of Thieves, and Assassin's Creed Black Flag, or immediately cast adrift and drowned at sea, like, well, pretty much every pirate game I didn't mention above. If the Destructoid crew is to be believed, Windrose has what it takes to become a total pirate banger in the vein of Valheim, and I'm here for it.

Windrose Crew has yet to divulge a release date for Windrose, but it's expected to come out sometime during 2026. You can already play the demo on PC via Steam and see what all the hype is about.

Crimson Desert might be a single-player experience at heart, but you don't need to play alone. There are pet companions you can find on your adventures who will accompany you wherever you go. But you can also get two additional companion characters in the form of Damaine and Oongka.

While you can play as them if you want, you can also have them as a companion to join you on your adventure.

How to use companions in Crimson Desert

The first step is to unlock Damaine and Oongka, which can be done as you complete the main campaign. If you're a beginner, it will take some time for you to unlock both. Once you unlock them, both Damaine and Oongka will be permanently available for you to pick from.

But you can only play as one character at any given time. If you switch from Kliff to, let's say, Damaine, the other character will be controlled by the AI. To summon characters as companions, open the character radial menu. Select the companion and then summon them.

You'll need to wait slightly for them to arrive, and once they do, they will follow you wherever you go. Having a companion is extremely useful since they can help you to take down enemies. However, they won't join you in boss fights, which need to be done on your own. They will also be unable to solve any puzzles for you, which also have to be done on your own.

That said, having someone to aid you in general combat is always helpful. You can also have your own pets that can act as additional companions. They won't help you in combat, but they will help you with loot collection, which saves a lot of time and energy.

Kliff wearing plate armor in Crimson Desert.

The Kiln Repair at the Kilnden Workshop is the second quest in Chapter 4 of Crimson Desert, and it's a relatively complex one to complete. It's largely a puzzle-based quest despite the main objective being to fix a kiln. This guide will help you to complete all the steps and prevent you from getting stuck along the way.

Crimson Desert Kiln Repair at the Kilnden Workshop quest walkthrough

The Kiln Repair at the Kilnden Workshop quest can be broken down into four parts.

  • Activate the Ancient Generator
  • Put Fuel into the Kiln
  • Fix the Dismantled Kiln
  • Fix the Disconnected Kiln

Activate the Ancient Generator

The Kiln

The first task is to activate the Ancient Generator, which itself is a puzzle. To solve it, you'll need to match a set of symbols. Activate the crank, and then adjust it to choose the disks on the top. When you select a set, it will have a yellow glow on the icons. You have to align it with the icon on the generator's body.

You have to do this for all three rings. Once aligned, the icons will all turn blue.

Put Fuel into the Kiln

Once you complete the first objective, there will be three more tasks to complete. The first of them involves putting fuel into one of the Kilns. The fuel is present as big balls that are all nearby and have a blue glow around them.

  • The first two are located by the Kiln itself.
  • The third one is on a bird-like statue. Grab and put it in the Kiln.
  • There's a small cave near the Kiln. The fourth one is near a small cave opening.
  • The final one is by the water near the base of the Kiln.

If you can't find them, they will be highlighted on the mini-map, and you can spot them quite easily. To grab them, use your Axiom Force and then insert them into the Kiln. Once the Kiln is fully powered up, activate the machine.

Fix the Dismantled Kiln

To use the Kiln, you'll have to find the structure that has been destroyed. Use your Axiom Force to gather the pieces, and then align the broken joints. Once the structure is assembled, climb on it and use your Force Palm ability. Then, use the handle to activate it.

Fix the Disconnected Kiln

Finally, interact with the disconnected pipeline and reconnect it. Then, push the handle to activate it. Return to the workshop and speak with Gimnir to complete the quest. While the next quest will be available, you'll need to wait for three days before starting it.
