Intro – Lance
My focus this week has been split between two huge stories: the Winter Olympics in Milan and the stunning abduction of the mother of one of the US’s most beloved morning television hosts.

These stories could not be more different, but they both have tech components. For the Olympics, it’s been, among other things, those drones, tiny sub-250g flyers chasing lugers, ski-jumpers, and cross-country skiers across various frozen surfaces, delivering eye-popping video – and some distracting noise that’s dividing TV viewers and athletes alike.

The Nancy Guthrie case’s connection to my world largely revolves around the chilling Nest Video Doorbell footage that the FBI somehow retrieved, even though Guthrie was on a free account – and it raises questions about the level of access Google has to users’ footage.

I did have time for other pursuits, like testing out Apple's new AirTag, which chirps loudly enough to be heard from one end of my house to the other, prepping for the next Samsung Galaxy Unpacked in San Francisco, and wondering when I might encounter those potentially annoying ChatGPT ads.

I’m also fascinated by the lengths companies are going to in order to skirt the RAM crisis, and offer you seemingly more affordable systems (maybe even ones you’ll never own).

Finally, I just realized that we’re hours from Valentine’s Day, and I feel woefully unprepared. I might be able to save the day by finding a good rom-com for my wife and I to stream, or maybe we'll just dig into Season 4 of Bridgerton – check out our weekend streaming round-up if you’re looking for something to watch yourself.

Enjoy your break, and we’ll see you next week.
