Microsoft announced yesterday that Xbox and Rockstar Energy Drink have teamed up to create some limited-edition Halo Infinite cans, and each comes with a code that unlocks in-game rewards.

Each can features custom art created by five artists handpicked by Xbox and Rockstar, and they're available for purchase now. You can visit the official Rockstar website to track down some of these Halo Infinite drinks near you, or you can purchase them in bulk on Amazon

The five flavors getting the Halo Infinite treatment are Original, Sugar-Free, Fruit Punch, Silver Ice, and Blackberry Goji, although that last one is only available in the U.S. This promotion will run until December 8 when Halo Infinite launches on Xbox consoles and PC, so there's plenty of time to track some down and find some codes.

In terms of what you get with these codes, every single code entered earns you Double XP for a limited time. Each code stacks to get you things like Challenge Swaps and cosmetics, too.

For example, the first code you enter will get you a Double XP bonus and two Challenge Swaps, which can be used to swap out daily or weekly challenges in-game with new ones. The second code you enter will get you a special Rockstar-inspired MA40 Assault Rifle coating, which is a flashy black and gold skin, and a Double XP bonus. The codes continue to stack, and eventually, with enough codes, you can earn a Rockstar-inspired Warthog coating, a Gravity Hammer emblem, and more.

Microsoft

Rockstar drinks purchased at Circle K gas stations feature their own codes that unlock additional XP bonuses, Challenge Swaps, and the Rockstar-inspired Razorback coating.

On top of all this, Microsoft says "fans will earn entries for the opportunity to snag copies of Halo Infinite and an Xbox Series X prize bundle" that features an Xbox Series X console, a digital copy of Halo Infinite, a Razer Raptor monitor, and a special Halo Infinite headset. One person will win the grand prize of a Jeep Gladiator.

More details about this promotion can be found in Microsoft's blog post about the collaboration and on Rockstar's site

For more about Halo Infinite, check out how 343 Industries is changing the radar following criticism of it in technical previews, and then read about why 343 hasn't shared more footage of the Halo Infinite campaign. Sony has laid out the October line-up of games for its PlayStation Now streaming service. Similar to Xbox Game Pass, PS Now is an on-demand service that treats subscribers to new offerings each month, some of which can be streamed over the internet or downloaded and installed traditionally. The Last of Us Part II headlines October's batch, giving subscribers a chance to experience one of the PlayStation's most celebrated (and divisive) experiences.

The Last of Us Part II is a downloadable title, meaning you don't have to stream it in order to play it. It will be available on the service until January 3, 2022. If you play it on PS5, you can download the new-gen performance patch. The sequel to Naughty Dog's critically lauded The Last of Us earned a perfect 10/10 score from us and was Game Informer's Game of the Year for 2020.

The following titles join Ellie's revenge quest and are available to play beginning today. Unlike The Last of Us Part II, these games will be available until further notice.

  • Fallout 76
  • Amnesia: Collection
  • Final Fantasy VIII Remastered
  • Desperados III
  • Victor Vran: Overkill Edition
  • Yet Another Zombie Defense HD

Do you subscribe to PlayStation Now? If so, which game from this month's batch are you most excited to play? Share your thoughts down in the comments!

Last week, Netflix announced it had acquired Night School Studio, developer of the Oxenfree series and Afterparty. During a recent interview, we briefly chatted with Night School's co-founder and studio director Sean Krankel about the new partnership and what it means for both the studio's immediate and long-term future.

Night School is currently developing Oxenfree II: Lost Signals, planned to be released sometime next year. As Krankel tells us, the Netflix acquisition has no impact on the game's development; Oxenfree 2 is still on track. Despite now owning the studio, Netflix isn't involved with this particular project – MWM Interactive is publishing Oxenfree II.

But following Oxenfree II's release, Netflix will take over as Night School's publisher. Night School is the first studio the streaming giant has acquired during its push into the game industry. Back in July, Bloomberg reported Netflix had hired Mike Verdu to help lead its video game division. Before Netflix, Verdu served as an executive at EA and Facebook, working on mobile gaming at the former and developer relationships for Oculus at the latter. As Netflix develops its game platform, Krankel says Night School will help form that future alongside the company.

"It really was this very – I hate overusing the word organic, but it just kind of came together organically," Krankel tells us. "We were not shopping ourselves around, and we got to a point where the more we talked to them, the more our visions really aligned for what we like to do and where they want to head with the platform."

"I think the way I would think about the acquisition is much more like, what's way down the horizon?" Krankel says. "Where do we head with that? And that's stuff as they develop the platform, we get to help form some of that with them, and we'll figure out our next concepts down the road. But as of right now, yeah, Oxenfree II is our main focus, and they [Netflix] don't want to change course on that even a little bit."

This acquisition isn't the first time the two companies have been involved with each other. As The Verge reported in 2019, citing anonymous sources from both Night School and Telltale Games, Night School was developing a never-announced video game adaptation of Netflix's hit series, Stranger Things. Telltale Games was the game's publisher, but when the studio closed in 2018 (before being effectively revived at the end of 2019), as one source told The Verge, the game "just sort of evaporated," never officially being canceled.

According to Krankel, Night School's current deal with Netflix is wholly removed from its prior time working with Telltale on a Stranger Things game. While he did confirm the validity of the report and the game's development, he tells us the two events were "totally unrelated."

"I think even as we started talking to them recently – basically, we've been talking to them for maybe six, seven months about a variety of different projects – but I don't even know if they knew that we were making a Stranger Things game," Krankel says, laughing. "So yeah, that definitely – that was us working directly with Telltale on that, so we didn't have as much of a direct connection."

The games that come out of Night School and Netflix's new partnership remain to be seen. However, Krankel tells us that during conversations before the acquisition, the two parties were in lock-step. Night School has been praised for its adventure genre work, specifically how it approaches naturalistic dialogue and branching storytelling. As the developer continues expanding upon these ideas, Krankel tells us Netflix is completely behind Night School's vision.

"It just really grew organically out of us talking about visions for games and wanting to make games that let people interact with [stories] in new ways," Krankel says. "We don't want to templatize what we do, but rather we want to keep pushing forward on either brand-new story ideas or brand-new mechanics ideas, and all of that was like, 'Check, check, check. That sounds awesome to us,' when we were talking to Netflix."

Night School Studio's next game, Oxenfree II, is planned for a 2022 release on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Gotta go fast.

Speedrunning has been an integral part of the gaming community for decades. People might lean on glitches or exploits to 'break' a game, but often it's simply a case of learning the mechanics, inside and out, to nail down the most efficient route from A to B. Aeon Drive is all about speedrunning; that's its hook, and it's a good one.

Taking place within the cyberpunk setting of 'Neo Barcelona', the game stars Jackelyne, a space ranger who is on a desperate race through the city to find the drive cores to fix her ship. Armed with a sword and teleportation dagger, you must guide Jackelyne through a vast variety of levels, all of which sport differing routes with their own advantages and disadvantages.

Classic Ghost Recon, plus Wildlands and Breakpoint DLC, is free-to-keep

There's a new Ghost Recon on the way, and Ubisoft is keeping the promotional machine rolling with something for aficionados of free PC games - which, let's be honest, is all of us. You can grab some classic Ghost Recon for free from the Ubisoft Store, and a bit of DLC for Ghost Recon Breakpoint and Wildlands is also available gratis from a variety of platforms.

You can grab the original Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon from the Ubisoft Store for free from now until October 11. While the promotion is only available for a limited time, once you've claimed it, it'll remain in your Ubisoft Connect library forever, just as with any game you'd purchase with actual money.

If you're looking for something more modern, the Ghost Recon Wildlands Fallen Ghosts DLC is also available for free across Steam, Ubisoft Connect, and the Epic Games Store. (Plus Stadia and the consoles, too.) And if that's not enough, you can also grab the Sam Fisher crossover in the Ghost Recon Breakpoint Deep State DLC from the in-game store.

Grand Theft Auto remasters datamine San AndreasRecently, Kotaku put out a report suggesting that Rockstar will soon release remasters of Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City on online stores. This report came as fans feverishly speculated over several rumors about the juggernaut open-world sandbox series. The potential existence of the aforementioned remasters has received particular attention, and Kotaku's report only strengthened fans' confidence that the remasters will indeed come soon. And now, that confidence will boost even further. A recent datamine of the new Rockstar Games Launcher update potentially confirms the existence of the Grand Theft Auto remasters. Various Twitter posts apparently show the results of the datamine, which include these bits of decoded text: "'Grand Theft Auto: Vice City – Unreal," "Grand Theft Auto III – Unreal," and "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas – Unreal."      Ghost Recon Frontline Battle Royale Free Closed Beta 1Ubisoft took to the stage earlier today to announce Ghost Recon Frontline, a free-to-play battle royale game that features more than 100 players vying for intel. It's still very much like a Ghost Recon game, but with some clear twists. Players are placed in squads of three, and you'll have your pick of various classes. Ghost Recon Frontline will be playable on October 14 in its first closed beta test, but only for European players. As mentioned, Ghost Recon Frontline does bring some different ideas to the old formula. The game will be fully first person, discarding the more traditional third-person camera. You can call in air drops, such as armored walls to help on defense, as well as vehicles. The goal is to collect pieces of intel from various objectives located on Drakemoor island. Once you collect enough intel, you converge onto a drop zone for extraction.   Extracting in Ghost Recon Frontline is a situation familiar to those who played The Division. Once you ca...
