Minecraft grindstone recipe: how to use a grindstone in Minecraft

What is the Minecraft grindstone recipe? If you need to repair your items quickly, here's a guide to crafting a Minecraft grindstone and how it differs from a Minecraft anvil and enchanting table.

A Minecraft grindstone is a type of block naturally generated in Minecraft villages, specifically in the village blacksmiths. To use a Minecraft grindstone, you'll need to combine two items of the same type, forging a new item with the combined durability plus 5% up to the maximum durability of that specific item type. This consumes both items in the process, and all enchantments are removed, returning the enchantment cost to you in the form of handy experience points.

You can also use a Minecraft grindstone to remove all non-curse enchantments from a single item. Simply place your enchanted item in either input slot, and it will disenchant. The Minecraft grindstone will also remove any prior work penalty from items, except cursed items. It's all quite simple once you know what you're doing.

Save 38% on this ultra-immersive curved Sceptre monitor today

If you're planning to upgrade your PC gaming setup, then this is the best time of year to do it. With early Black Friday deals already live on many websites, some of the most expensive pieces of kit are now available with substantial discounts and we wanted to bring your attention to one early Black Friday deal in particular: the Sceptre 30-inch curved gaming monitor, which is now down to $309.97 on Amazon, saving you a huge $190.02.

Its 21:9 UltraWide curved screen can help you to feel more deeply immersed in the worlds of your favourite games, as you're able to surround yourself in high-definition detail. The design has been made to accurately reflect the contours of a human eye, giving an experience that a standard flat monitor just can't deliver. Huge open-world games like Skyrim are best enjoyed when you can feel completely absorbed in the world, and with a curved display like this one, it's a whole new way to play.

This Sceptre gaming monitor boasts refresh rates of up to 200Hz, which gives you a really smooth transition between frames. If you're someone who plays competitive online games like League of Legends or Fortnite, the difference will likely be night and day. You'll be able to see (and respond to) the on-screen action more easily. Its 1m response time means that it can eliminate ghosting, and can piece together action-packed scenery more accurately.

Strategy game Empire of Sin's second chance –

Empire of Sin just received a new expansion and free patch today that's aimed at giving the prohibition-era strategy game a second wind. Paradox's recent quarterly report mentioned that Empire of Sin didn't sell as well as expected, and reviews from the game's launch window - like ours - were positive but full of caveats.

Not hitting the initial mark is always a possibility, game director Brenda Romero tells us in an in an interview. "There's always the risk that the game is not going to meet expectations in some regard. That comes with the territory. You could win a BAFTA for a game, or it could just go right down the middle of the road."

The lion's share of the incoming improvements comes from the free Precinct update, which overhauls aspects of the management layer, as well as filling the act of growing your underground empire with more strategic choices. The inclusion of a new 'depot' building means that certain battles become more meaningful, and the need for supply lines and expansion via adjoining precincts means you have to focus your attention. Do you want to take over your local neighbourhood, or make a beeline for another neighbourhood and set up shop there?

American Truck Simulator's next DLC might as well be a Far Cry crossover

The United States gets plenty of airtime as a videogame setting, but it's usually the big cities on the coasts that get the most attention. American Truck Simulator has been a rare opportunity to explore the beautiful rural stretches of the country, but for once, the game's next DLC won't be the first time such a setting is explored in a major videogame. A fictionalised version of Montana might've already appeared in Far Cry 5, but now we're getting the real deal.

The Montana DLC has been announced with a variety of work-in-progress screenshots showcasing various locations around the state. "No matter where you look, you'll find unspoiled nature, charming small towns, and spectacular views," as the devs explain in the announcement. "Explore National Parks, then hit the road to discover more natural wonders. You can drive through rugged mountain roads, pass by crystal clear lakes, or spend your day exploring the historic towns and cities."

There's no word yet on when the Montana DLC will be released, but it's safe to expect it sometime after the Texas expansion. ATS DLC had previously been releasing at a twice-annual cadence, but between the pandemic related delays that've hit across the industry and the necessary size of the Texas project, there's no telling what the new release schedule will look like.

Best Black Friday deals on gaming RAM

There aren't as many specifications to fuss over when picking out RAM deals compared to something like best gaming monitor, but your gaming PC won't get very far without a stick or four of good quality memory. In case you're new to all this PC gaming lark, RAM is your system's short-term memory, and you'll likely need at least 8GB of it in your system to run most modern games well.

While 8GB is the minimum we recommend for any gaming system, moving up to 16GB can help improve performance further, especially if you aim to run your games alongside a few Chrome tabs and Discord. Then there's the clock speed, which isn't too impactful on your game. The safest bet is to go for a 3,000MHz clock speed setup as a minimum.

Oh, and don't forget, there's a vital choice to be made when it comes to RGB lighting on your RAM. It seems like a ludicrous and unnecessary addition, but there's no quicker way to tell if you've properly clicked in your sticks than by an assault of flashing colours. Whatever your needs, you can rest assured that we've collected all the best Black Friday deals on gaming RAM right here.

Battlefield 2042 gets much-needed performance patch ahead of full release

EA has released a patch for Battlefield 2042 to remedy some of its issues before the standard edition launches tomorrow (November 19). The new war game underwent a one-hour maintenance period yesterday, so it should be good to go.

The update targets server stability improvements and reduces instances of rubber-banding. The team has also managed to "significantly" reduce instances of stuttering on the Breakaway map - so the server's performance should no longer dip if the silo is destroyed. Aside from that, you've also got other fixes to smooth out the experience ahead of the full launch tomorrow.

There are more performance updates on the way, too. Community manager Adam Freeman says that you'll be getting two further patches before the year is out, at the very least. "In the coming weeks, we'll have more to share around further upcoming fixes, balance changes, and QoL enhancements," he says. "Over the next 30 days, we're presently scheduled to release two further updates, with our next update delivering more fixes and improvements that we've identified during this first week of Early Access, and a larger and more substantial update following after that."

Creative Assembly lifts the veil on Nurgle and Slaanesh for Total War: Warhammer 3

Chaos is coming to Total War: Warhammer III. We've suffered the rage of Khorne and the machinations of Tzeentch. Now we must prepare for an onslaught of Nurgle abominations and Slaanesh's seduction as Creative Assembly lifts the veil on the final two Chaos Warhammer 3 races.

Today's announcement focuses on Nurgle, the Plague Lord, and his champion Ku'gath Plaguefather, who will be the faction's launch Legendary Lord. Nurgle factions in general thrive on spreading disease and debuffing their foes, while also giving their own forces a boost. Their buildings are cyclical, in the sense that they grow and then perish, while units can be recruited directly into armies for reduced strength.

Ku'gath, as the father of plagues, is unsurprisingly all about breeding new contagions and testing them on his foes, with an aim to create the ultimate disease that can infect even the gods. Much like the Ogre Kingdom's Greasus Goldtooth, Ku'gath gets carried into battle on a palanquin, although he's no slouch when it comes to melee combat or spellcasting. There's been nothing revealed about Slaanesh just yet, although it seems the final chaotic pair are being set up as rivals fighting over new followers.

Saints Row release date and everything we know

Want to know when Saints Row's release date is? The Saints Row series has followed the 3rd Street Saints since their inception back in 2006. The open world games have escalated the series' silliness with every release, going from shootouts with rival gangs, fighting off an alien invasion, and even escaping the fiery clutches of Hell.

It's been six years since Saints Row: Gat out of Hell launched, and the developers feel like now is the perfect time to reboot the series. Officially unveiled at Gamescom 2021, the rebooted Saints Row was initially received poorly by longtime fans for deviating from the source material. The original characters have been reimagined, the story establishes the beginning of the group, and the gang's colour has temporarily switched from purple to blue.

Now that the developers are able to speak directly to the fans via Twitter, it appears a lot of the initial anger has died down. Though the reveal trailer doesn't give too much away, you can expect the same over-the-top gameplay the series is known for when the reboot launches next year. Here's everything you need to know about Saints Row so far, including the game's fictional city, who the characters are, and what you can expect from the story.

If you've ever built your own gaming PC, the question "can it run Crysis?" has likely haunted you throughout the process. However, with the Crysis Remastered Trilogy's arrival on Geforce Now, you won't need the best graphics card to run the high-fidelity FPS, and Nvidia is even giving away copies of Crytek's classic with their priority cloud gaming service subscriptions.

Nvidia announced today that existing priority GeForce Now members will receive a free Epic Game Store code for Crysis Remastered in the coming days, while those that have pre-ordered an RTX 3080 membership can grab the game once subscriptions are active. If you've got a GeForce Now Founders membership, you can also upgrade your existing membership and enjoy RTX 3080 performance without losing your early bird benefits.

Arcane Act 3 release time – LoL show gets new Netflix episodes soon

While Riot's League of Legends animated spin-off show Arcane has been taking Netflix by storm this month, we've not been able to binge on all episodes in one big, greedy go as the platform has been releasing them in sets of three at a time. The first three episodes came out on November 6, and the next three on November 13. It means we've had to wait to see how this season ends, but we don't have to wait too much longer.

The Arcane Act 3 release time is 12am PT / 3am ET / 8am GMT on November 20. Riot has confirmed the details on Arcane's official Twitter account, adding that the final batch will also include three episodes just like the other two acts. That means, all in all, the season has been nine episodes long. You may have to stay up late or wake up early wherever you are, but it may be the best way to avoid unwanted spoilers.

We also have Riot x Arcane's final phase this week, a chonky, multiple-game spanning event that celebrates the debut of League of Legends' show. Undercity Nights introduces more unlockable stories to the studio's flagship MOBA through the interactive Council Archives experience. You'll get to unlock Vi's stories and a unique Arcane Vi skin this time around, which can be earned by playing three games or winning one.

Halo Infinite's battle pass is getting easier to grind

343 Industries is making Halo Infinite's battle pass less of a chore to grind, which may come as a relief to some of you. Halo community manager John Junyszek has taken to Twitter to explain some of the reward track changes coming your way later this week.

You're getting "play one game" challenges to ensure you can consistently progress through the battle pass by playing the matches you want. The team is also making some changes to weekly challenges to streamline progression, with adjustments, bug fixes, and even the removal of some. Changes to challenge difficulty, in particular, will help you complete weekly challenges faster, which should speed up your progress through the battle pass. Finally, double experience boosts will now last for one hour instead of 30 minutes, which the team hopes will aid you in getting more out of them.

Your progress on this week's challenges will need to be reset for the fixes to be implemented, but everyone is getting an ultimate reward to make up for it, which is the Sigil Mark VII visor. Make sure you log in between November 23 and November 30 to pick it up.

What is the current and next Genshin Impact banner?

Wondering what the next Genshin Impact banner is? Genshin Impact banners adhere to a pretty regular schedule. Each update arrives with a new banner that lasts around three weeks, and after it expires, it's followed by a second banner which also lasts roughly three weeks, at which point it's update time once again.

This means even though we hear rumours of new Genshin Impact characters arriving in forthcoming updates, we won't know their exact release date until we know which banner they will be a part of, and whether it'll be the first or second banner in the update. Occasionally, banners don't stick to this schedule - most notably, update 1.3 had three two-week banners, so that Hu Tao's banner didn't cross over with the Chinese New Year.

Typically, each limited character banner - or Event Wish - contains a five-star character, and three four-star characters. There's also a Weapon banner - Epitome Invocation - which runs alongside each character banner, and features different weapons each time. Here's everything you need to know about the current and upcoming Genshin Impact banners.

GTA Online's weekly update brings diamonds back as Casino loot

It's Thursday, GTA Online fans, but it's no ordinary one, going by what this week's update has brought to the open-world game. The official Rockstar Games newswire post isn't live yet, but Tez2 tweets that this week's patch has brought diamonds back as casino loot. The ongoing chip shortage continues to inflate the price of the best graphics cards to eye watering levels, so it's no surprise that GPU manufacturers like Nvidia are reporting healthy levels of profit. However, the company's $40 billion acquisition of British chip manufacturer Arm Ltd. remains up in the air, and the latest comments shared by its chief financial officer suggest the deal isn't proceeding as swimmingly as Nvidia would like.

In her CFO commentary, Colette Kress provided an analysis of Nvidia's current and prospective financial position, but also made a statement on the company's acquisition of Arm Ltd. Kress highlights that Nvidia is at the behest of several governing bodies, with the company "seeking regulatory approval in the United States, the United Kingdom, the European Union, China, and other jurisdictions."

It appears that in addition to the concerns previously voiced by the UK government over the deal, the US Federal Trade Commision is now expressing its own concerns. In response to this, Kress says that Nvidia is "engaged in discussions with the FTC regarding remedies to address those concerns."

I had my first eggnog latte of the year yesterday, which means that like Black Friday, the actual holiday season is officially upon us. I'm sorry, I don't make the rules. For many of us, me included, that means stuffing our faces with delicious treats like we're in training for Fat Bear Week. What's your favourite? Mine's the lebkuchen hearts with apricot filling, plus anything with marzipan.

The point I'm trying to get to is that this isn't really a slim and sexy time of year for me. More of a fat and cuddly (but still sexy) season. On the other hand, this Alienware m15 R4 gaming laptop is both slim and sexy, as well as a full $500 off in Dell's early Black Friday sales.

It's been a few weeks since I came down on the side of basically liking Age Of Empires 4. Lukewarm praise, perhaps, but it seems to be doing well, and that makes me glad. We've needed an RTS revival for ages, right? And this one is good, if a bit safe.

For the last few weeks I've been puzzling over the lingering feeling that it could have been more ambitious. Why do I think it could have pushed the trireme out further? Is it possible to make a modern RTS that captures the best of the classics without simply rehashing them? Has it even been done already and gone unrecognised?

At long last, we have a date for Minecraft's Caves & Cliffs Part 2 update. On November 30th, Mojang will give the game's mountains and caves a makeover, adding new sub-biomes and letting folks explore deeper than before. I'm very much looking forward to the new Lush Cave biomes, which are gonna be full of vines, moss and pretty blossoms. I reckon that would make a lovely location for an underground home.

I can't remember why I picked this theme, but for this episode of The Electronic Wireless Show podcast I wanted to talk about AI characters - as in, characters that are, in game, an artificial intelligence of some kind. This definition does cause some trouble. After all, is not every character in a game that isn't player controlled an AI character, fn fn fn?

No, because you all know what I mean and so does Nate. Matthew doesn't, know, and had prepared a list of just, companion characters. Don't worry, he actually pulls out some really good examples. We talk about a lot of games this week, not least because I didn't prepare a Cavern Of Lies again. Sorry. There is also a lot of talk about clones, and what Matthew would do with clones of himself (e.g. shove them out of an airlock).

Supercars are boring. That one on Forza Horizon 5's front cover? Don't care how fast it goes, mate. Oh, goes from 1 to 60 in 2.7 seconds does it? Yeah, well, that's how long it takes to prepare this knuckle sandwich. No, but seriously, they're all the same to me: just wedges of carbon fibre with wheels. I'm sure the engineering is marvelous and the innovation groundbreaking. But let's be honest, in videogames they're virtually all the same.

My Forza Horizon 5 fantasy doesn't involve Lamborghinis or Ferraris. In fact, it's the complete opposite of opulence. Mexico's roads are for me and my mundane companions. The Volvo Estate, the Ford Focus, the Honda Civic. The everyday vehicles that make up for their lack of speed with heaps of character. I just wish there were more to choose from.

Undungeon is a peculiar action RPG set at the end of the universe, in which you play an immortal herald called Void who has been pieced together by God themselves using a primordial stew of hot organs, conscious essence and wet rib cages. Something very complicated has happened to reality, and you're here to fix it with your swooshing Freddy Kreuger claws and clever dialogue choices.

I'm still not entirely sure what Undungeon is about. The characters, a cast of hovering orbs, corrupted flesh angels and crystal beings, repeatedly try to explain what's going on, but it never quite sinks in. Collapsing dimensions are causing no end of trouble, that's pretty clear, shattering into an infinite number of spinning shards that rain like an exotic meteor shower over a scorched wasteland inhabited by nomadic technomancers and acid-spitting scorpions. You're sent down to the dusty mortal plane to plug everything back in again and reset the multiverse, like an interdimensional BT engineer.

Multiversus Reveal Trailer Batman Arya 1The leaks were true. DC's platform fighter MultiVersus is real, and it got a surprisingly informative reveal trailer today. It's not simply a teaser; the trailer covers many features and aspects of the game. It spends more than three minutes explaining what's to come, from characters, to gameplay and online modes. Oh, and it has Batman fighting Arya Stark from Game of Thrones, which is about as mindboggling as you can imagine. The MultiVersus reveal trailer is presented by Tony Huynh, game director and co-founder of Player First Games. Huynh talks about what sets MultiVersus apart from other platform brawlers like Smash and Nickelodeon All-Stars Brawl. For the most part, the game leans heavy on co-op play. While there is a single-player mode, the focus is on playing with a friend, utilizing each character to their fullest.   "MultiVersus emphasizes teamwork and social play, with an ever-expanding diverse cast of characters that you know and love," ...

Vanguard Bren ClassThe launch of Call of Duty: Vanguard has taken fans of the franchise back to the Second World War. You can hop into the single player campaign, try out the new multiplayer maps and modes, and continue the dark aether story in Zombies. If want to take the Bren to your next Vanguard match, you can build a strong class with the best attachments. Overall, the Bren does not have the fastest time to kill in the light machine gun category. However, this does not mean that it is unable to put up a fight. As long as you unlock every attachment you need, you can still lead your team to victory. Maps such as Oasis and Desert Siege will best suit this weapon as you will find yourself in plenty of medium to long range engagements. The Bren does have some noticeable recoil which becomes harder to control as you are firing at range. Therefore, this class will mainly focus on making your gun more accurate and powerful.   Call of Duty: Vanguard Bren class Muzzle: G28 Compensator Stock: Queen&#...

Exo One Review 1There's something rare about an unknown experience. Exo One takes players on a journey to unknown worlds by unknown means, putting its focus on traversal above all else. This is a deeply creative endeavor, brought to life with massive, barren areas that players are meant to zoom through at ridiculous speeds. The game doesn't last long, but it doesn't need to. It offers entrancing visuals and logical, responsive gameplay mechanics, alongside a mysterious narrative that all coalesces to achieve something that's quite unlike anything else I've played. I'm left with some questions, but pleased with the overall package. Exo One places players in the cockpit of a vehicle. Sort of. The vehicle in question is a grey orb powered by what I can only imagine to be energy similar to a star. The narrative is cryptic, but it's mostly understandable, even if I'm not quite sure what happens during the game's ending. Without giving anything away, ...

Vanguard Patch ShipmentThe launch of Call of Duty: Vanguard has taken fans of the franchise back to the Second World War. Although we are still in the pre-season, the game made its debut with an array of multiplayer maps and modes, a new Zombies map, and more. Also, Sledgehammer Games has rolled out various important fixes to the game since it launched. Now, the latest Call of Duty: Vanguard patch notes detail new content including the highly anticipated Shipment map, while addressing some more bugs. Shipment has appeared in multiple Call of Duty titles. It first appeared in Call of Duty 4 and most recently featured in Modern Warfare 2019. The map has now made a return in Vanguard. The small scale arena is perfect for players who prefer to run and gun and thrive in frantic situations.   The rest of the Vanguard patch addresses some important bug fixes. A bug has been sorted which stopped players from being able to equip a camo on their gun. Also, players are now unable to use a camo that they do not ...

San AndreasIn one of the most famous missions in the entire franchise, CJ and Big Smoke are chasing a train. The design is iffy, so the mission is easy to fail. "All we had to do was follow the damn train, CJ!" Big Smoke chides you upon each failure. I mention this, because, when one of the biggest publishers in the world remasters its three most beloved games, all it had to do was take the GTA Trilogy, add some quality of life improvements, dress up the graphics, and call it a day. Instead of doing that, Rockstar Games hired Grove Street Games, the mobile game developer famous for its shoddy mobile ports of the trilogy, to bring the three games closer to modern standards. Unsurprisingly, it just ported its three mobile versions into Unreal Engine 4, bugs and longstanding issues included, and slapped on a new coat of paint. Fans of the games, which there are many, are horribly unsatisfied by this, for good reason. On PC, we got it even worse. I didn't even get to play the gam...

Jurassic Park: Evolution 2 was ultimately a charming but slow management game that suffered from a lack of depth. The magic of breeding and looking after massive dinosaurs gave way to fairly bog-standard gameplay interspersed with moments of chaos when a T-rex broke free and ate a few paying customers. When Frontier announced a sequel I was excited to see if they could fulfil all the potential the original had of being a casual but hugely entertaining sim-park title. As evolutions go, this one has a few random mutations that need to be removed from the genome if there's going to be a third game, but overall it's a decent improvement. It's bigger, it's meatier, it's toothier. If the first game was the classic T-rex, this is the Indominus Rex. Welcome, to Jurassic World: Evolution 2.
