Let's be honest: 2021 saw a number of games get released in a pretty shameful state. None were nearly as busted as the catastrophe that was—still is?—CD Projekt Red's Cyberpunk 2077, but this year's crop of broken games was atrocious all the same. And though some eventually got patches that fixed various issues,…

The Nintendo Switch had a pretty odd 2021, all things considered. This has been a bit of a slow year, and it is no wonder why. Developers were thrown into panic, as most of us were, by 2020's covid-19 outbreak. While this did slow things down in 2020, a lot of games released that year were already mostly complete when…

Nvidia reportedly delays its GeForce RTX 3070 Ti 16GB and RTX 3080 12GB GPUs

It appears that the ongoing chip shortage has forced Nvidia to postpone the release of its GeForce RTX 3070 Ti 16GB and RTX 3080 12GB graphics cards, according to Igor's Lab. Thankfully, the 3090 Ti will be announced and released as planned (for now at least).

The RTX 3070 Ti 16GB and RTX 3080 12GB were previously rumoured to be revealed in just three days, on December 17. This postponement marks a continued trend of Nvidia amending its reported release schedules, with the company having previously cancelled the RTX 2060 12GB Founders Edition just a few days before launch.

If you're the kind of person who just wants the best graphics cards Nvidia has to offer, the RTX 3090 Ti should launch on January 27, 2022. Not much is known about the GPU, but leaks suggest the card will feature 1TB/s of memory bandwidth and a new PCIe Gen 5 power connector. Unfortunately, these kinds of specifications could make it a prime target for crypto miners like EVGA's RTX 3080 Ti.

The best tower defense games on PC

Looking for the best tower defense games on PC? For a time, the humble tower defense game was one of the most popular genres out there. They may appear to be simple strategy games for more casual players, but fans would call them accessible tactical titles that require sharp reflexes, a sharper mind, and quick improvisation.

Their accessibility comes from how deceptively straightforward they are - at least to begin with. A horde of enemies comes from specific directions across a small arena and the player has to improvise a set of appropriate defenses, using scant resources, to deal with them. Enemies become tougher and more numerous as the game progresses, but the player gets access to better equipment to deal with them too.

They're also highly addictive, which is why there remains a steady influx of tower defense titles - they even pop up in other genres too, such as the entertaining den defense minigame in Assassin's Creed Revelations. While the genre often veers towards smartphone and tablet gaming, there are still many fantastic tower defense games on PC right now. Here's the best of the best.

How to find Minecraft diamonds in 1.18

Looking for the best Minecraft 1.18 diamond level? You'll have to dig a little deeper to find this rare mineral, but it will be worth it when you strut into battle donning your sparkling war attire.

Minecraft diamonds are used to craft high tier and extremely durable items such as tools and armour, and can also be used to create an enchantment table. You can craft diamonds in Minecraft from a block of diamond or by mining a diamond ore. By using a block of diamond in the crafting grid, you'll obtain nine diamonds.

You can craft a bunch of glam gear from diamonds in Minecraft, as well as trading diamonds with villagers at Minecraft villages.      Everything you need to know about Minecraft frogs

Looking for more info on Minecraft frogs? Mojang announced the arrival of these cute little critters at Minecraft Live 2021, alongside more information about the next big Minecraft update, called The Wild update. The Wild update will be update 1.19, and follows the second part of the Caves and Cliffs update, otherwise known as the Minecraft 1.18 update.

The Wild introduces a new biome to the open world game, called the mangrove swamp. In the mangrove swamp, mangrove trees grow from propagules you can plant both in water or on land. You can chop down mangrove trees for a new type of wood, and they are a particularly distinctive shape - their roots branch out in arches into their surroundings.

Another upcoming feature in The Wild update is the addition of tiny little fireflies that hover around swamp biomes, shimmering in the dark - and occasionally becoming tasty snacks for the frogs that hop around nearby. Here's everything we know about Minecraft frogs, including information on all the frog variants and where to find frogs in Minecraft.

Minecraft mangrove trees – how to plant propagules

Want to know everything about the mangrove tree in Minecraft? At Minecraft Live 2021, Mojang announced the next big Minecraft update, and it's called 'The Wild update'. This update will arrive at some point in 2022, bringing with it the deep dark biome, previously announced for the Minecraft 1.18 update. The Wild update also contains a host of new creatures, features, and more. Several biomes are seeing some changes, but one of the most significant changes coming to the Wild update is an overhaul of the swamp biome.

Previously teased in a Minecraft biome community vote at MineCon 2019, the swamp biome overhaul includes the addition of adorable Minecraft frogs, the ability to craft houses with Minecraft mud bricks, and special boats with chests. Additionally, you will be able to find new mangrove trees in mangrove swamps. Just like the rest of the Minecraft trees, mangrove trees drop a unique type of wood that you can use to make items, or as the building blocks for swamp-appropriate Minecraft houses.

We'll go over everything we know about these water-dwelling trees from the information shared during the Minecraft Wild update reveal, including where you can find them and how to cultivate your own mangroves from scratch using propagules.

This Red Dead Redemption 2 jobs mod is about enjoying the Wild West's atmosphere

While it doesn't look like Red Dead Online is getting any significant content updates over the holidays, Red Dead Redemption 2 is still brimming with new ways to experience the Wild West game, thanks to modders. One of the recent projects to catch my eye is Bolmin's Jobs Mod. It's not about bringing more fast-paced action to the Wild West - instead, it's about getting busy doing the small things and enjoying the atmosphere of Rockstar Games' take on 20th century America.

The simply titled Jobs Mod allows you to pick up work as a miner, bartender, hunter, shepherd, dockworker, or a delivery driver for some in-game cash. Bolmin explains that the jobs work similarly to camp chores, albeit with some extra encounters. That said, the modder warns that "they are not meant to be action packed" as "the main idea is to have different ambient tasks" that allow you to "just kick back and enjoy the world or atmosphere".

Once you download the mod, you'll find that various cities now have NPCs marked with job icons. You can pick up hunting work in Saint Denis, Strawberry, and Annesburg or pull pints in Saint Denis, Tumbleweed, and Valentine as an assistant bartender, to name a few examples.

Minecraft mobs list – every mob and monster in Minecraft

Minecraft mobs are the living entities in Minecraft - short for mobile, these sometimes adorable, sometimes you can find aggressive creatures roaming the many biomes of the blocky universe. They will interact and respond to you, other players, and other mobs, whether that's a creeper knocking at your door, or a pig in the pen in your back garden.

Minecraft mobs are susceptible to the same physics and environmental changes that affect players, such as catching fire or drowning. They can be attacked and killed with weapons, and when killed drop resources and experience points, with hostile mobs dropping rarer items on occasion.

In Creative mode, Minecraft mobs will never attack you, but can be divided into three behavioural categories in Survival and Hardcore modes, which include passive, neutral, and hostile. Utility mobs iron golem and snow golem, can be crafted to assist you against hostile mobs. Trusting mobs can't be tamed, but have a special behaviour when interacted with and include dolphins, ocelot and even the adorable Minecraft fox. Here's a list of all the mobs and monsters that can be found wandering the vast Minecraft landscape.

Genshin Impact events – all current and upcoming events

Want to know more about the upcoming Genshin Impact events? A new version of Genshin Impact arrives every six weeks, complete with new characters, quests, and events. It's difficult to keep track of which events are currently running and if there are any new ones coming soon, so here's a schedule for all current and upcoming Genshin Impact events.

Genshin Impact has a number of events running simultaneously, and they aren't just in-game events. When a new Genshin Impact character joins the game, the devs launch a web event at the same time - players learn about the latest characters through an interactive story told through a web browser. The rewards for completing different events range from in-game items like primogems and mora, to real life prizes like mouse mats and plushies.

Just like the Genshin Impact banners, most events are only available for a limited time, so it's worth participating as soon as you can. New events are usually added to Genshin Impact after an update, but it's worth keeping an eye out on this page as the devs do like to surprise the community.

Update - December 14, 2021: Patch 11.24 has headed to live! Check out our League of Legends patch 12.1 notes to see what's coming next. Riot has also shared details of a set of 11.24b changes coming up soon - check these out below.

This is it, LoL fans - the final patch of the 2021 League of Legends patch cycle has come to the PBE for its fortnight of testing and tinkering. League of Legends patch 11.23 has made the leap from the testing grounds, bringing a round of Café Cuties skins for Annie, Soraka, Vladimir, Gwen, Bard, and Sivir, as well as all the Preseason 2022 changes to the live MOBA game. Now, it's 11.24's turn - so let's dig in.

First up, as usual we've got a brand-new batch of skins coming with the new update. This patch it's an emerald-hued range of Debonair skins for champions Brand, Draven, LeBlanc, Leona, Malzahar, Master Yi, and Zed, which brings them into the murky depths of the mobster-run Valoran City, as part of the Crime City Nightmare alternate universe. Lucky Brand even gets a Prestige Edition. You can check out the splash art and in-game previews for these shiny new styles in the New Champion Skins section in the patch notes below.

Minecraft The End: how to find an End Portal

Trying to find an End Portal in Minecraft? If you want to travel to The End, then there's only one means of transport - an End Portal. Taking the leap into another dimension takes commitment, as once you dip a toe in the End Portal, there's no backing out.

We're sure you've got your reasons for visiting the End. Maybe you want to take down the fearsome Ender Dragon, maybe you need some precious resources like End Stone or Chorus, or perhaps, like us, you just like the bleak endless view of the void. Whatever your reason, you'll need to hop into an End Portal to get there.

You can only find End Portals in the portal room of a stronghold. To find a stronghold, you need to use Eye of Enders to lead you to their location, before digging quite deep underground to find it. Once you do, you'll find it hanging over a pool of lava. Most End Portals already have some Eyes of Ender in place, with a 10% chance of generating with an existing eye.

League of Legends' Arcane-inspired Firelight Ekko skin gets delayed

When League of Legends' 12.1 patch - the first of the 2022 League of Legends season 12 patch schedule - recently hit the PBE, it brought a snazzy new skin for champion Ekko, which was inspired by the tremendously successful spin-off Netflix show, Arcane. However, "an unfortunate mistake on [developer Riot Games'] part due to a miscommunication internally" has meant that the skin's now been delayed for a little while.

League's lead skins producer, who goes by Riot Katana, has posted an update about the Firelight Ekko skin's rollout on the game's dedicated PBE subreddit, which you can see in full below. In it, the dev responds to player feedback querying the absence of new special effects for the skin, which many were expecting due to it being an epic-tier skin, with these typically being included with epic skins in the past. "We completely agree that SFX are a standard and expected part of an Epic (1350 [RP]) skin, and leaving them out was an unfortunate mistake on our part due to a miscommunication internally," the dev explains.

"While we do everything we can to avoid delaying content, we're going to hold off from shipping this skin for a few patches to work on adding new SFX. This also means the skin will come off of PBE for now."

EVGA just made Nvidia's GeForce RTX 3080 Ti more appealing to crypto miners

The best graphics cards are almost vapourware at this point, with the likes of Nvidia's RTX 2060 12GB not even showing up on launch day. Sadly, while it seems like the graphics card shortage situation couldn't get any worse, EVGA just made its spin on the RTX 3080 Ti more appealing to crypto miners, meaning gaming PCs might have to wait longer for a GPU upgrade.

Spotted by PC Gamer, the new vBIOS update resolves power restrictions that cause the EVGA RTX 3080 Ti XC3 to underclock when dealing with memory-intensive activities. While this enhances the card's video rendering and encoding abilities, it also inadvertently boosts its mining capabilities, and the GPU is already grabbing the attention of crypto enthusiasts.

In a recent video, YouTuber Red Panda Mining took EVGA's XC3 BIOS and flashed it to a Inno3D 3080 Ti iChill X3, resulting in hash rate figures reaching 91MHps. For context, the original RTX 3080 features a full hash rate of 100MHps, which means the Ti model could sub for the mining scene's favourite GPU.

AMD may announce new Ryzen CPUs and Radeon GPUs during CES 2022

We may be nearing the end of 2021, but CES 2022 is just around the corner, which can mean only one thing: announcements. While AMD isn't technically part of the show, the company has nonetheless decided to stage a 'Product Premiere' event on the same day as Intel's CES press conference, January 4. Thanks to Twitter user Greymon55, we now know what to expect from team red's presentation.

AMD already produces some of the best gaming CPUs you can slot into your gaming PC with its current Ryzen 5000 lineup, based on the Zen 3 microarchitecture. However, it appears that the company will reveal more details on its Zen 3 processors with 3D V-Cache as well as Zen 3+ chips at the event. Zen 3 Threadripper is also on the cards, having been previously delayed earlier this year.

If you're more interested in Radeon graphics cards, Greymon55 believes that Navi 24 GPUs will be officially announced during the event. These products won't rank among the best graphics cards in terms of raw performance, and should target the budget build market instead.

Victoria 2 cheats – the best cheats and console commands

So, you want some Victoria 2 cheats? Victoria 3 may be on the way, but perhaps you're playing the previous game to get some understanding as to what to expect. This cult classic grand strategy game is set in the 19th century during a time of great change, of rising nationalism, social welfare, and a major shift towards democratic governments.

Victoria 2 was originally released back in 2010 and has now been elevated to meme-status as we all wait patiently for the sequel, which may not be out until next year. Until that happens though, we'll have to make do with its slightly archaic design, perhaps freshened up with some Victoria 2 mods.

Unique amongst the Paradox strategy games, Victoria 2 takes place over a relatively short time span but still counts its time in single days. Depending on your goal, you'll often need to accomplish a lot in a limited timespan, and if things don't go perfectly, well… we won't judge you if you need to look up some Victoria 2 cheats and console commands to help smooth things along.

Genshin Impact Itto and Gorou banner release time confirmed

We're just about halfway through Genshin Impact's 2.3 update, and that means we're getting a wee reshuffle of the banners and events on offer. One of the most significant new occasions you'll want to be aware of is Oni's Royale event wish, which just so happens to kick off today. Essentially, it's the one you've been waiting for if you want to add new Genshin Impact characters Itto and Gorou to your gang.

Itto and Gorou's banner also includes four-star characters Barbara and Xiangling, so there are two familiar faces you may get if you haven't nabbed them just yet. As always, you can try Itto and Gorou out before you decide if you want to spend your Intertwined Fate Wishes on the banner. The test run provides a mob of foes for you to tackle with a team that's made up of all the characters on offer, so you can see how much damage Itto deals out and how suited Gorou is to the support role.

If you fancy outfitting the duo with some new weapons, the Epitome Invocation event wish is also going live today. The standout prizes are the five-star Redhorn Stonethresher claymore and the Skyward Harp bow. Itto is a claymore user, while Gorou favours the bow, so it's worth keeping that in mind unless you have weapons you're keen to outfit them with.

League of Legends patch 12.1 notes – Elderwood skins, Janna changes

The first patch of the League of Legends 2022 season has hit the PBE. League of Legends patch 11.24 has headed to live servers to make its debut on the Rift and, following a bunch of teases from Riot Games on social media, the latest batch of new content has begun trickling onto the testing grounds ready for patch 12.1's arrival in the live game soon. Let's take a look.

First up, we've got some new Elderwood skins on the way, this time for lucky champions Gnar and Rek'Sai. Riot also revealed a new skin for Ekko called Firelight Ekko, which is inspired by his style in the tremendously successful LoL spin-off Netflix show Arcane. However, this now won't be shipping with 12.1 as "an unfortunate mistake on [the studio's] part due to a miscommunication internally" means that the skin wasn't given new special effects, which the team now wants to make sure it adds. So, the skin has been taken off the PBE for now and will return in a few patches' time.

As is is very often the case when a patch has only just hit the PBE, we don't have many balance changes to check out just yet. However, there are some pretty big changes coming to champion Janna, which you can see below - and you can probably expect a batch of wider changes soon.

How to perform a BIOS update in 2021

If your PC isn't working as it should, maybe you need a BIOS update. Whether you're upgrading to the best gaming CPU or attempting to diagnose the source of your system's instability, updating your PC's basic firmware is a great place to start your troubleshooting.

The BIOS, or Basic Input Output System, is the crucial low-level interconnect between your motherboard, the components plugged into it, and your OS. If you're having difficult hardware diagnostic issues, frustrating system instability, or just can't get your memory up to speed, it's especially important to make sure your motherboard's BIOS firmware is up to date with the latest release from the appropriate manufacturer. The performance, stability, and compatibility of your system may depend on it - yes, you read that right, it can boost fps in your game.
