Nvidia's RTX 3080 12GB GPU is now a thing, and preorders could pop up soon

Nvidia ended 2021 as rocky as it started, as insufficient RTX 2060 12GB stock levels somewhat stifled the company's Turing relaunch. That hasn't stopped the green team from gearing up for yet another GPU release, though, as the company's officially confirmed the RTX 3080 12GB as a real thing.

Originally unveiled via a GeForce Experience driver update, the RTX 3080 12GB model comes with a 2GB memory increase, 384-bit memory bus, and an increased bandwidth limit of 912GBps. The new card's spec also requires an additional 30W, resulting in a higher 350W TDP.

Nvidia has no plans for an RTX 3080 12GB Founder's Edition release, but various vendors have now announced their own take on the GPU refresh. So far, MSI, Inno3D, and Asus have announced custom models, including overclocked variants boasting 1,890MHz boost clock speed.

Days Gone sequel would have continued Deacon and Sarah's story

While the chances of a Days Gone sequel appear slim at the moment, we now have an idea of what it could have looked like. Director Jeff Ross has been chatting to USA Today, discussing ideas around continuing Deacon and Sarah's story, a more dynamic game world, and swimming.

Ross spitballs the idea that Deacon and Sarah are back together but ultimately not happy. He goes on to say that the narrative would have remained "heavy" and "strong", but don't fret, the bike would've come along for the ride, too.

"We would have kept the heavy, strong narrative," he says. "We would have kept the bike, obviously. And I think we would have expanded the tone a little bit in a more technical direction, kind of like, 'Alright, now we have all this NERO tech – what can we do with it?' The tone would have expanded one ring outward towards some of the new reality. I think this would have been a little bit more – I don't want to say Avengers, but something where the player had resources, he had some sort of the remnants of whatever the government had."

The Sims 4 gets a wee little update with some free cosmetics

Some updates are big, some are small, but when they bring free stuff, they're always welcome, right? EA has just released a new 'Sims Delivery Express' DLC for The Sims 4 which brings a wee little content drop of Create-A-Sim items - but hey, look, new clothes!

"Kicking off the new year with a Sims Delivery Express!" a tweet on the game's channel announces. "Our favourite Freezer Bunny is hopping into your game with new Create-A-Sim items. Available now to all players!" There's an accompanying image giving us a glimpse at what's new (below), though SimsCommunity handily has the full details. There are two full-body outfits - one feminine (which seems to be inspired by a traditional Korean hanbok garment) and one masculine - along with an adult hairstyle for feminine sims, and a head accessory for masculine ones.

They should make an exciting new addition to sims' wardrobes, with players already sharing their appreciation on Twitter through images of the new items in-game and the different swatches they're available in.

Apex Legends characters guide: all hero abilities detailed

On the lookout for an Apex Legends characters guide? Then our handy breakdown of each legend in Respawn's battle royale game and their abilities will be just the ticket. Whether you're considering who to try first, or who you would like to mix things up by playing as next, each of Apex Legends' heroes boast a unique personality and playstyle to make every round feel fresh.

There's an Apex Legends character for every play style: Wraith and Mirage's stealthy and deceptive characteristics will appeal to the seasoned flanker who is out to deal serious damage to one key target, where the big, friendly tank, Gibraltar, will have to be prepared to put themselves in the firing line and shield their team from danger. Then there's the medic, Lifeline: this legend will play the crucial role of maintaining the health of her squad.

Of course, since you're automatically placed in a squad of three in Apex Legends, you can't afford to think individually. You'll need to think carefully about how characters complement each other if you want to be within even the length of a grapple hook between you and glorious victory. When you're ready, here's what you can expect from each of the Apex Legends heroes.

Monster Hunter Rise PC reviews – our roundup of the scores

Monster Hunter Rise will finally come to our home platform this week, following its release on the Nintendo Switch back in March 2021. Ahead of its imminent debut on PC, reviews have been pouring in, giving us an idea of whether it's worth your hard-earned pennies - and it seems the answer so far is a resounding 'yes'.

In this orange site right here's Monster Hunter Rise PC review, Dave scores Capcom's beastie capturing game a hearty nine out of ten. Calling it a "fantastic game, both for newcomers to the series and hardened veterans seeking new and exciting challenges", the review notes the game's "beautifully realised setting and some genuinely innovative combat additions", which make it fun from beginning to end. "If you haven't played a Monster Hunter game yet, this is the best one to start with," it adds.

Reviews elsewhere feel similarly, with Monster Hunter Rise's PC version currently sitting at a score of 88 on review aggregate site Metacritic. Many scored reviews put it between the 80 and 90-out-of a-hundred mark, though one or two place it even higher. So, safe to say, it's been a bit of a hit with reviewers so far.

Halo Infinite is getting fixes for Big Team Battle and cheating soon

343 Industries has laid out its plans to tackle some of the Halo Infinite community's biggest bugbears. Community director Brian 'ske7ch' Jarrard explains in a blog post that a fix for Big Team Battle matchmaking is "nearly ready to go" and that a mid-February patch is targeting cheating in the FPS game.

While Big Team Battle broadly works, you may run into issues if you're part of a larger fireteam. Players report that queuing up with your friends leads to various matchmaking errors before being booted to the lobby. Jarrard explains that the team made several stabs at fixing the issue before the break, though a "strike force" continued its efforts over the holidays and the team is now optimistic it has a fix. The update is currently in QA, though Jarrard doesn't have an ETA on when it'll go live just yet. However, he notes the BTB patch is "nearly ready to go".

Jarrard has also addressed cheating within Halo Infinite. Clips of players using cheats such as wallhacks and aimbots have increased been appearing since multiplayer launched late last year. The team is working on a patch for mid-February that tackles this and "other things", though you'll need to wait until closer to the time for more details.

Gaming PCs running Intel Alder Lake CPUs are now free from DRM issues

Intel's Alder Lake CPUs have proven their PC gaming worth, but DRM issues on Windows initially rendered 50 games unplayable. While this figure was drastically reduced to just three back in December, the company now says the processor is now completely free from the problems that plagued it at launch.

According to Intel's post, the company worked with game publishers and Microsoft to implement a fix for games affected by DRM issues. As a result, players won't have to use workarounds when playing games like Assassin's Creed: Valhalla, Fernbus Simulator, and Madden 22 on an Alder Lake Windows machine.

Naturally, the blue team suggests updating the latest version of Windows 11 or 10 to ensure fixes are implemented. If you're still experiencing issues with either a new game or one from the list, you can reach out to Intel Customer Support, or try implementing the previously suggested Legacy Game Compatibility BIOS fix.

Galactic Civilizations IV's Arceans are an excellent starting race for conquest-minded strategy gamers

Like the Drath - the focus of our last Galactic Civilizations IV race preview - the Arceans were added to Galactic Civilizations III via an expansion, but are coming to IV right at launch. They've reformed from an empire to a republic, but the fundamentals of their history haven't changed and they're available to play in the alpha if you pre-order today.

The Arcean Republic are a stoic warrior culture that was introduced in the 0.65 update. Their citizens are pretty chill about most things; it doesn't really matter which ideology you wish to pursue, your choice is unlikely to anger many of these unflappable folk. Ready to do what needs to be done, Arcean citizens will never be pacifists, and even get approval bonuses when specialised as soldiers.

Despite being one of the oldest races, the Arceans find themselves on the back foot in the universe of Galactic Civilizations. For much of their recent history they've been occupied by the Drengin, one of the setting's main antagonist factions. With the help of the Terrans they've finally reclaimed their homeworld, but this still leaves them with little more than the other factions at the start of the game.

     God of War system requirements

God of War finally comes to gaming PCs on January 14, 2022, just short of four years after its release on PS4, and now developer Sony Santa Monica has revealed what your rig needs to pack in order to play it. It seems like the wait might even be worth it, too, this PC port granting you access to plenty of graphics settings and exclusive features.

We've known since its announcement that the Nordic epic will feature Nvidia DLSS and AMD FSR upscaling technology, so you can boost fps, which truly makes use of God of War's uncapped frame rate. Nvidia Reflex is also no surprise, and should make the game more responsive when you're stringing combos together. DLSS uses Tensor Cores, so you won't be able to enjoy it if you're running anything less than an RTX graphics card, but Reflex is available to anyone using a GeForce 900 series GPU or later, and FSR is ready for everyone - regardless of hardware.

There's also a wealth of PC-specific features, such as higher detail assets and rendering resolutions, enhanced Ground Truth Ambient Occlusion (GTAO), and Screen Space Directional Occlusion (SSDO) effects. Even more impressive, storage requirements are actually 10GB lower than initial estimates, at a lean 70GB.

League of Legends patch 12.2 notes – New Champion Zeri, Crystal Rose, Withered Rose, Porcelain, Firecracker skins

2022 is here, League of Legends fans, which means another year packed with gameplay updates, new champions to welcome to the MOBA game, and plenty of new skins. League of Legends patch 12.1 has headed to live servers, bringing a handful of item and champ changes and some snazzy new Elderwood skins. Now, it's time to see what the second patch of the Season 12 League of Legends patch schedule will bring.

The big news for 12.2 is the arrival of brand-new champion, Zeri. It seems she might have made a slightly premature debut as her universe and biography pages (which went live January 4) appear to have now been taken down, though we have an idea of what she's all about from the details that were offered in these when live. As reported by Surrenderat20, Zeri will be known as The Spark of Zaun, and will be a marksman champ who "channels her electric magic to charge herself and her custom-crafted gun". We don't know anything about her abilities beyond a few hints in the bio and universe info, but you can check out a fuller description in Zeri's section below.

Patch 12.2 also brings a whole bunch of new champion skins. Akshan and Janna are getting Crystal Rose skins, while Elise is getting a Withered Rose style. Then there are plenty of Porcelain and Firecracker skins to go around for others. You can take a look at all of these in the notes below.

     Monster Hunter Rise system requirements

It doesn't matter whether it's the Switch version or its jump to PC, Monster Hunter Rise is the best in the series to date, and we can't wait for the hunt to commence. Like any good hunter, you first need to make sure your gaming PC is equipped and prepared to deal with the game's monsters before taking on a Rathalos, which is where the Monster Hunter Rise system requirements come in.

Despite starting out as a Nintendo Switch title, the Monster Hunter Rise system requirements are slightly more demanding than 2018's Monster Hunter: World. You can already get a feel for how the game will perform with your current rig by playing its demo on Steam. However, this likely won't be entirely reflective of the title's performance when the Monster Hunter Rise release date rolls around tomorrow.

One thing we know for certain is that Monster Hunter Rise won't feature cross-play or cross-save, so you can't bring your progress to and from your consoles, unfortunately.

Genshin Impact Enkanomiya Key Sigil locations

Looking for Genshin Impact Key Sigils? The Genshin Impact 2.4 update introduces a brand new region called Enkanomiya, a mysterious land underneath Inazuma that is said to be the original home of the Watatsumi people, Kokomi's ancestors.

Enkanomiya holds many secrets, and in order to access them, you need to collect Key Sigils. These magical floating runes come in five varieties, and they are used to open seals across Enkanomiya - each seal can only be opened by a Key Sigil of the same design. Like Anemoculus in the overworld, they're spread throughout the map, and you'll pick them up as you explore.

Not all the Key Sigils are immediately collectible; some of them can only be accessed as you progress through the area's quests. Collecting all the Key Sigils nets you an achievement and a small number of primogems. To help you find any you may be missing, we've put together a map of all Genshin Impact Key Sigil locations. Before you can access Enkanomiya for the first time, you need to find a couple of Key Sigils in Inazuma. If you're looking for those, we've got you covered.

Here's your first good look at DnD game Neverwinter's Dragonbone Vale

Neverwinter's next module is nearly here. Dragonborn Vale comes to the DnD MMORPG's PC version tomorrow, signalling Valindra Shadowmantle and the Cult of the Dragon's move to bring "undeath" to dragons across Faerûn and beyond using an ancient artefact that's come into their possession. The module ushers in the new Adventure Zone, as well as Heroic Encounters, and even a grappling-hook mechanic that lets you traverse around the game's world in a whole new way - and we've now got our first good look at Dragonborn Vale up close.

To fend off the Cult and protect the Sword Coast from its plans, players will need to gather with the allied factions of Protector's Enclave under the leadership of esteemed wizard Elminster Aumar. A voiceover introduces us to the story's setting - a mysterious, mountainous region "nestled in plain sight yet high enough to discourage prying eyes". There are bridges that divide the zone into the Sword Mountains' four distinctive areas, starting with Wyrmbone Marrows in the south, reaching up through Quellwater Tarn, Scaleblight Summit, and Whetstone Thicket.

Leader Etrion has taken the Emerald Enclave - which players might remember from days of Neverwinter past - to Whetstone Thicket, which lies roughly to the northeast of the region revealed in the clip below. As its name suggests, this is a wooded region home to looming pine trees, stone cliffs, and mist. Think of Skyrim's yawning, rocky vales and you'll be close.

This turned out not to be the exciting selling point they expected for the open-world zombie-mashing parkour-o-shooter.      Infernax Preview 1I love it when games wear their love for Castlevania on their sleeve. Infernax, a game that was apparently kickstarted with a little more than $3,000 USD, strongly echoes the early entries of that series in terms of style and tone. Unlike the 8-bit Bloodstained games, however, it's more in the vein of Simon's Quest than anything else. I got to play a 30-minute preview of the game and, honestly, I very much wanted to keep playing once I was kicked back to the menu. Infernax is set to release this year, so let's take a look at what it has on offer. When Infernax begins, you're prompted to start with a classic or easier difficulty. The classic difficulty takes you back to your last save when you die, while the other one gives you frequent checkpoints. I'm not going to lie, I did not choose the classic one. Save points aren't exactly close to each other, and I wasn't interested in being careful.   The game's visual style is indeed sim...
