Yacht Club Games is working on a new project which, for the first time in the indie studio's history, has nothing to do with Shovel Knight.      Mina the Hollower isn't Shovel Knight 2, but it looks great

Link's Awakening is still the best 2D Zelda game. (Don't at me.) Yacht Club Games, the studio behind the megahit indie game Shovel Knight, clearly has strong feelings about it too, as their next game keeps the spirit of Game Boy Zelda alive. Mina the Hollower is a top-down action-adventure game with a cartoonish gothic horror aesthetic, and it already looks fantastic.

The titular Mina is an anthropomorphic mouse equipped with a whip and able to quickly burrow underground. Those are your two primary actions, mimicking the two-button restrictions of a proper Game Boy. (Even the colour choices are built to imitate the palette restrictions of the GBC.) You'll also pick up Castlevania-style side weapons, like a throwable ax or boomerang. There's also a levelling system that will let you increase various stats over time.

The devs say that the game's still early in production and that ideas are still "taking form", so they're soliciting feedback as part of a newly-launched Kickstarter. The final game is estimated for delivery in December 2023.

Halo Infinite devs tease an Attrition-only playlist

Halo Infinite's Cyber Showdown event has come to a close, and with it, so has the limited-time Attrition mode. But players really like Attrition. Like, really. The developers at 343 Industries are aware of that, and are currently deciding just how best to bring the mode back into regular rotation - perhaps with an Attrition-only playlist.

"The team is going to bring back Attrition in a more consistent manner such as its own playlist or part of a new one down the road," multiplayer designer Andrew Witts says on Twitter. "Thanks for playing and providing feedback on its debut. We love the mode too and we're happy to see such a positive response to it."

Attrition is effectively a much more intense version of the traditional Slayer team deathmatch. You kill your opponents until the other team runs out of lives, but on the final set of lives you don't immediately die when you get taken down - instead, your teammates can revive you. That keeps the comeback potential strong, and the entire match feeling high-stakes.

Borderlands 3 and the Director's Cut DLC are in February's Humble Choice bundle

This month's Humble Choice bundle includes another healthy selection of games that range from quirky indie games to one of the biggest FPS games of the past few years. Borderlands 3 is the headliner for February's bundle, and it comes with the Director's Cut expansion for even more co-op mayhem.

The Director's Cut is, as you might expect, even more Borderlands 3. It also adds a whole new tier of loot rewards. With the Director's Cut, you can pick up special diamond keys that open an entire loot armoury, located beneath the bridge of your ship, the Sanctuary III. Once inside, you have a limited time to pick an exceptional piece of gear off each wall.

February's Humble Choice bundle also includes Martian city-builder Per Aspera, which casts you as a lone AI charged with making the Red Planet habitable for human beings. You'll eventually have to manage the entire planet, while also keeping an eye on the state of your AI - who gradually starts to feel a creeping anxiety about the scale of the task before her. Check out our Per Aspera review to learn more.

Genshin Impact Special Program 2.5 Stream Will Be Held This Week

It's almost time to learn more about the Genshin Impact 2.5 update, as its Special Program stream will be held on February 4, 2022. MiHoYo announced that the presentation will show up on Twitch that day. It will be held at 4am PT/7am ET/1pm CET. The announcement image for it involved three familiar characters. One is Aether, the male version of the Traveler. The other are the Raiden Shogun and Yae Miko.

This hints at characters who will feature prominently in the Genshin Impact 2.5 update. Raiden Shogun is the Electro Archon for the Inazuma region. She appeared as a playable character during the 2.1 update and showed up in September 2021. She's a five-star character. Yae Miko appeared in the Inazuma Archon Quests, but isn't playable yet. MiHoYo teased her debut at the end of December 2021. She will also be an Electro unit.

The current banners are rerun ones featuring Ganyu and Zhongli. Those are available until February 15, 2022.

Genshin Impact is available for the PS4, PS5, PC, and mobile devices. It will also come to the Nintendo Switch eventually. The Genshin Impact 2.5 Special Program stream will go over the update at 4am PT/7am ET/1pm CET on February 4, 2022.

fire emblem heroes 5th anniversary

The Fire Emblem Heroes 5th Anniversary celebration will bring with it a number of events and freebies for players. Among them? Log-in bonuses, new heroes and 2022's A Hero Rises competition.

Fire Emblem Heroes 5th Anniversary log-in bonuses, which run through the first half of February 2022, include a total of 10 Orbs, 55 Trait Fruit and 555 Heroic Grails. Along the way, players will also grab 55 of each type of Dragonflower, a Celestial Stone and 55 Sacred Coins. An accompanying set of quests will include more Orbs, Coins, Dragonflowers, Summon Tickets and other materials.

A 5th Anniversary Grand Hero Party event will allow players to earn five-star versions of 14 Grand Hero Battle units through daily quests. Also happening again this year is a Special Hero Summon. With this, players can get a free Special Hero released in the past year by selecting a color and summoning a random one of that type.

Also included in the Feh Channel video were the new units added for the 2022 Fire Emblem Heroes Day of Devotion event. This year's participants hail from Fire Emblem: Awakening. The roster includes Lucina, Owain, Female Robin, and a Duo Hero that pairs Chrom and Male Robin. Lissa will also join as a free Tempest Trials reward unit. Held as a seasonal Special Heroes update every February, Day of Devotion is the game's Valentine's Day equivalent. It often includes family members and canonical pairings.

A limited-time Hero Fest summoning event will include Three Houses' Yuri, Mythic Plumeria, Legendary Dimitri and Harmonized Catria & Thea. Legendary Hrid and Mythic Eir are the latest additions to the game's Remix banners, earning new skills and upgraded special abilities. Finally, Special Heroes from the game's early days are joining Special Hero summoning sessions as part of a new "four-star special" rate.

You can check out the full Feh Channel video presentation below. It includes a better look at the new units and more details on the anniversary event.

Chrom, Tiki Top Fire Emblem Heroes Choose Your Legends Round 6 Results

Fire Emblem Heroes' Choose Your Legends Round 6 voting results are here, and Chrom, Tiki, Seliph and female Byleth are this year's winners. The announcement, part of the February 1, 2022 Feh Channel video, means the four characters will appear in the game with special outfits later in 2022.

Chrom, a main character in Fire Emblem Awakening, topped the men's division after years of increasing fan support. Chrom fans voted for him 42,134 times to get him to the winning spot. The character, who also made it into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, is a descendant of Marth.

Joining him at the top is franchise-favorite dragon Tiki. Specifically the Fire Emblem Awakening version of the character, Tiki's win means Awakening heroes top both categories. Receiving 39,705 votes, she'll be the first non-human recipient of the honor. While the younger version of Tiki has made frequent appearances in Heroes, this adult version has been absent since 2017.

Also earning new alternate versions in the Choose Your Legends competition are Seliph and Byleth. A protagonist of the Japan-only Genealogy of the Holy War, Seliph received 26,301 votes to place second in the men's division. Byleth, after falling from second in the back half of last year's voting, held onto her spot in the women's division and earned 20,855 votes.

The full listing of results can be found at the official Choose Your Legends site.

Fire Emblem Heroes is available on iOS and Android. Intelligent Systems will add the Choose Your Legends winners to the game later in 2022.

The Dark Pictures New Game 2Supermassive Games have been a titanic force in horror games recently, ever since the release of Until Dawn. The developer's spooky resume has granted it the approval of the eight-game anthology with Bandai Namco Entertainment — a series of games known as The Dark Pictures. The official website for the anthology only includes three of the first games: Man of Medan, Little Hope, and House of Ashes. But a new trademark filing shows that the world of The Dark Pictures is much more vast, with five other games on the way. These games have been revealed as listings on the European Union Intellectual Property Office page. The official listings show some trademarked titles, which are as follows: The Dark Pictures: The Craven Man, The Dark Pictures Presents: O Death, The Dark Pictures: Directive 8020, The Dark Pictures: Intercession, and The Dark Pictures: Winterfold. These five games will join the other three listed above in the non-linear anthology.   Branching paths Presu...

Life Is Strange Remastered 1The original Life is Strange is a bit of a modern classic, beloved by many who were enamored by its fun time rewinding concept and grounded story. Life is Strange: Remastered wasn't all that necessary, as the original game has held up fairly well. That being said, this new version offers some undeniable improvements that make the game look more modern than before. However, it might not be enough that people who own the original should necessarily scramble to upgrade. Before the Storm also received a remastered version, but since there are more changes in the original (and it's an older game), I thought it better to focus on the first. As for what's different about the visuals in Life is Strange: Remastered, the largest difference is that the facial animations have been mocapped to make things less stilted. Faces animate differently now, but they're still constrained some by the character models, so this doesn't make the biggest difference in the world. ...

Mina The Hollower Yacht Club Games revealed kickstarterYacht Club Games, creator of the delectable Shovel Knight games, promised some big news this week. Earlier on the Xplay Live show hosted by G4, the company revealed Mina the Hollower, a retro, Zelda-like game now on Kickstarter. The game stars Mina, a little mouse taking on a dangerous world. Shovel Knight felt like a celebration of classic, action platformers of yore, and Mina looks to do that same with Zelda-likes. Yacht Club's Kickstarter page for the game makes it pretty clear just exactly what kind of influence spurned Mina the Hollower's creation. It takes cues from Castlevania, Bloodborne, and the best Zelda game, The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. The result of these various ingredients is a colorful action game with dark themes, monsters, and of course, plenty of pots to chuck at enemies.   "Smooth 60fps action combat, a world full of mystery and horror, and top-down adventuring combine in a mix that may remind you of classic titles like Cas...
