Square Enix announced a Crisis Core PC remaster

Square Enix is finally releasing a Crisis Core PC version after more than a decade of the Final Fantasy 7 prequel being locked to the PlayStation Portable. The publisher announced Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion as part of the Final Fantasy 7 25th anniversary celebrations, and it's set for a release date on Steam sometime in winter 2022. That means you'll be able to play it on Steam Deck as well, yet another addition to the handheld's growing library of RPGs. Crisis Core Final Fantasy 7 Reunion will also release on consoles. While it's billed as a remaster, it seems like the project goes beyond being a simple glow up. Square Enix enhanced Crisis Core's graphics and upscaled every 3D models for Reunion, along with adding full voiceovers and new music arrangements designed to present the familiar tale in a brand-new light.

It took 10 years, but Dragon's Dogma 2 is finally in development

After years of fan speculation and hopes that the franchise wouldn't disappear, Capcom finally announced Dragon's Dogma 2 during the series' 10th anniversary. Capcom's Hideaki Itsuno said the game is currently in development, though didn't mention when that development started or when fans can expect to play Dragon's Dogma 2. The original Dragon's Dogma released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 before a streamlined and improved version released in 2013 with the subtitle Dark Arisen. Despite seeming like your typical action RPG on the surface, Dragon's Dogma innovated with the Pawn system, what was essentially an NPC training feature that let you customize how your followers would grow and aid you in battle – or not, if you weren't particularly good at it.

FF7 Remake Part 2 hits winter 2023, but not on PC

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 is officially called Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and the RPG game launches in winter 2023 for PlayStation 5, series producer Yoshinori Kitase announced during the Final Fantasy 7 25th anniversary livestream. There's no PC date for Part 2 just yet, but considering Part 1 is on the Epic Games Store and now Steam, we'd be surprised if a PC version didn't follow sometime in 2024. Kitase also shed some light on what's left for the reimagined series and said there's one more title in the FF7 Remake project, though naturally, he didn't reveal it's name or expected release date. Instead, we saw a first look at FF7 Rebirth, which seems to lend credence to theories that the games unfold across multiple timelines.

Puzzle game studio Zachtronics is making its final game

Puzzle game developer Zachtronics is currently working on its swan song, and it looks like the studio intends to go out with a bang. Last Call BBS is a game about playing cracked games on a retro computer console called the Z5 Powerlance and finding some strange gems in the process. It'll also be the studio's final game.

Similar to other Zachtronics games like Shenzen I/O and Exapunks, Last Call BBS presents itself as the interface for a bespoke computer environment. In this case, it's the Z5 Powerlance, a kind of higher-tech version of the Sinclair ZX Spectrum or Apple IIe. The premise is that a bartender has loaded up this machine with access to a bunch of cool puzzle games for you to try out, and each one looks like a journey down a Zachlikes-themed memory lane.

FFVII Buster Sword

Square Enix is releasing a series of interviews with various members of the Final Fantasy VII Remake development team. The first interview went into detail regarding how the team went about creating the script, which was mostly based on feelings, and answered the question as to whether or not Barret could lift the iconic Buster Sword from FFVII.

In short, the answer is yes. However, Character Modeling Director Maasaki Kazeno said that Barret being able to lift the Buster Sword is very different from wielding it.

If you extrapolate this difference in terms of simple physical strength, then yes, Barret does look like he could lift and chop with the Buster Sword in one hand.

However, that is a very different thing to asking if he could wield it as a weapon. If we assume that the Buster Sword is made from iron then it would be a gigantic sword that weighs around 40kg and there would be many factors required to actually wield it effectively, other than just brawn.

He went on to mention how impressive it is that Cloud is able to wield the weapon. The interview also delved into the stance Cloud takes in Punisher Mode, one of the combat stances he has in the game. And Battle Director Teruki Endo stated that despite the similarities to Sephiroth's stance when using the Masamune, the way Cloud wields the Buster Sword in FFVII Remake by comparison was coincidence.

Square Enix announced Final Fantasy VII Remake will be available to play on PC through Steam very soon. The announcement came through the Final Fantasy VII 25th anniversary broadcast. It also featured information on the next installment of the remake trilogy, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is available on PlayStation 4, with the Intergrade version came to the PlayStation 5 and PC via Epic Games Store in 2021. FFVII Remake Intergrade will come to the PC via Steam on June 17, 2022.

FFVII Rebirth

The next part of the remake of Final Fantasy VII is called Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, but the project as a whole will be a trilogy according to Square Enix. Following the reveal of FFVII Rebirth during the Final Fantasy VII 25th Anniversary stream, messages from Creative Director Tetsuya Nomura, Director Naoki Hamaguchi, and Producer Yoshinori Kitase confirmed the project's three-part structure.

https://twitter.com/finalfantasyvii/status/1537561006917943300

Nomura confirmed that he was actively involved in development for all four Final Fantasy VII-related projects at Square Enix. He said that FFVII Rebirth in particular was being designed for people to enjoy "whether they know the original game or not". He said that some new players might even like to see Rebirth as their own starting point with Final Fantasy VII. Further, the new development structure in place at Square Enix has meant that progress on Rebirth has moved rapidly. According to Nomura, some development has "already begun" on the third part of the trilogy.

For his part, producer Kitase said that development was proceeding "at an astonishingly fast pace" for title of the FFVII Remake project's scale. FFVII Rebirth being the middle part of a trilogy would come with its own challenges, but he expressed confidence that Rebirth would take a place among other beloved second entries. The team aims to top the first installment as well, in terms of being a "gripping and memorable experience".

Director Hamaguchi encouraged fans to think of Rebirth as more than just a single part in the series, as the team was working on it with "all of the passion and dedication needed to create an original game". Going by the trailer, Rebirth's story may continue in its metatextual mode, treating the remake project and the original release of Final Fantasy VII as a dialog of sorts.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is in development and targeted for release "next winter", which could be late 2023 or early 2024 on PS5. Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is available on PC via Steam and the Epic Game Store.

The Summer Game Fest Twitter account later noted it uses the RE Engine.

The livestream was announced during the Capcom Showcase 2022. This featured a reveal that a special broadcast would be held to commemorate the anniversary of the series.

Dragon's Dogma originally released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2012. The action-focused, high fantasy title saw players creating characters that could branch off into different paths. While no true multiplayer existed for the title, players could summon "Pawns" created by other characters. These Pawns would carry over battle experience and knowledge from their players' playthroughs. Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen released later as an expansion pack, which saw the inclusion of an entirely new questline.

Dragon's Dogma also inspired an animated series, which is loosely based on concepts from the game. The show follows Ethan, an Arisen, on his quest to defeat a dragon that holds the key to his future.

Dragon's Dogma 2 is in development.

There's no JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R rollback netcode, but it will have 60fps on most platforms and cross-gen multiplayer

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R Producer Kentaro Matano confirmed the game will not have rollback netcode. In an official update, Matano went over various details about the game. It also confirmed frame rates, resolutions, additions to the game, and cross-gen multiplayer as well.

Matano not only said JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R will not offering rollback netcode. In the FAQs, he also noted that "there are no plans to implement it at this time."

Finally, Matano talked about things added and removed. He noted that the original story mode and campaign are gone. Instead, he mentioned All-Star Battle, Team Battle, and Tournament modes are there instead. So are six new fighters and moveset additions like assist attacks and the Stylish Guard.

In terms of frame rate, almost every console will be at 60fps. The only one that won't is the Switch. It will be locked in at 30fps. The PS5, Xbox One X, and Xbox Series X are the three consoles that will all also display it in 4K.
