Gearbox just announced that the company will soon be closing down its discussion forums, and encouraging all users to instead migrate to using individual game Discords for their community needs. I am once again here to say this is a very stupid idea.

While the whole NFT thing appears to be mercifully on the decline, there are still companies out there—like Square Enix—trying to justify partnering with technology that exists solely as an enormous scam. Mojang is clearly not one of them.

Metal Gear Solid is a beloved PS1 stealth game classic starring the seriously cool, bandana-wearing super spy, Solid Snake. But Snake is actually a man. MultiVersus arguably started with what's known as the Ultra Instinct Shaggy meme. Derived from YouTuber Midya's edit of an episode from Scooby-Doo! Legend of the Phantosaur—where a hypnotized Shaggy single handedly defeats a biker gang—it was a viral hit that some felt culminated in the creation of WB's free-to-play…

Civ 6 players have some brilliant theories about Atlantic map landmass

You think you know the Civ 6 map pretty well, and then something like this comes along. Reddit user Kyfigrigas looked at the icon for Civ 6's Huge Earth map and noticed something the rest of us may have taken for granted in the 4X game's icons: there's a giant landmass in the center of the Atlantic Ocean. Some fans took it upon themselves to explain what the landmass actually was, with predictably amusing results.

This Stardew Valley mod gives the Dwarf some friends

It's lonely being the valley's only magical dwarf, and one modder decided to fix that with the Stardew Valley mod Durin's Rest. It's a whole new village in the life game, with new residents, marriage candidates (eventually), mining resources, and, despite ostensibly being named after one of J.R.R. Tolkien's famous dwarves, Durin's Rest is even home to a pointy-eared resident.

The Cycle: Frontier patch 1.3.8 beefs up anti-cheat systems

A patch is out for The Cycle: Frontier, the new free-to-play extraction game that's like a friendlier, sci-fi version of Escape from Tarkov or Hunt: Showdown. The small update makes some weapon tuning adjustments, fixes a few bugs, and cranks up the anti-cheat detection a bit. With cheaters running rampant in The Cycle during its first few weeks, developer Yager says it's devoting a lot of attention to ramping up its anti-cheat systems.

touhou danmaku kagura

Touhou Danmaku Kagura, a rhythm game based on the popular Touhou series, is shutting down. Developer UnknownX announced the shutdown during a livestream event on July 18, 2022. The game itself will shut down on October 28, 2022, about fourteen months after its August 4, 2021 launch. It never received an international release.

You can see the announcement itself here at about the 1:22 timestamp.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qihelj8eoeM

Twitter user @DanmakuEN, a fan-run news account focused on Touhou Danmaku Kagura, posted translated screenshots of the announcement. These included messages from UnknownX Vice-President Tomohiro Ueda, and Commander-in-Chief Jyunya. The messages thanked players for their support, and explained some of the reasoning behind the decision. Though over 5 million players downloaded the game since its launch, sales ended up "far below" forecasted levels. Despite attempts to boost sales via promotions and updates, things didn't turn around. A plan to continue service at a "greatly reduced" level was ultimately rejected, as it would not match the level of service desired. UnknownX also thanked Touhou Project creator ZUN.

https://twitter.com/DanmakuEN/status/1549013408455876610

In the meantime, players can continue to enjoy Touhou Danmaku Kagura until its end. UnknownX will continue to add new songs, characters and cards, and run scheduled events.

Danmaku Kagura is a rhythm game in the vein of mobile rhythm titles like BanG Dream! Girls Band Party. Gameplay consists of queuing up songs selected from Touhou Project titles and licensed music and hit notes in time with the music. Players acquire new characters through a gacha system to form their parties. Parties confer score benefits and other effects when triggered while in play.

Check out some sample gameplay from YouTube user Cryx23.

Touhou Danmaku Kagura will be available from the Japanese iOS and Android stores until October 28, 2022. Another mobile spin-off of the franchise, Touhou LostWord, received an international release in 2021.

Ys VIII Lacrimosa of Dana Ps5

Just four months following the initial announcement, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana on PS5 has a proper release date. That date, according to publisher NIS America, is November 15, 2022 in North America. Europe gets its version on November 18, 2022, and Oceania gets its on November 25, 2022.

In addition to the PS5 port, NIS America is also selling a limited edition physical release of Ys VIII. The physical edition is available via NIS America's online store. It contains an art book, a "Journal of Adol Christin" book, a soundtrack of "Seiren Songs", a steelbook case, and a 24" x 17" poster of the game. Check out pre-order options at this page.

NIS America also uploaded a story trailer for Ys VIII on PS5 to promote the release.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=brhfKfwtNH0

The story trailer shows off the graphics as seen in Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana for PS5. Environmental and character models remain largely the same as seen in earlier releases of the game. The story is also unchanged. Longtime Ys protagonist Adol Christin is shipwrecked on the cursed Isle of Seiren, after his passenger ship is sunk. He's also haunted by dreams from the past, of a mysterious girl named Dana Iclucia. Adol must survive the island's dangers, as well as explore the mystery behind the stranding of both Adol and his fellow castaways.

Other than PS5, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana is available on numerous platforms. It originally released on the PS Vita in 2016 in Japan, and made its way to the PS4, Nintendo Switch, PC, and even Google Stadia. Mobile ports are also in the works.

Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana comes to PS5 in November 2022. It is available on the PS4, Switch, PC and Google Stadia.

Overwatch 2 CharactersOverwatch 2's latest beta has come to an end, and dedicated players have received a bit of a clue on the next hero coming to the game. Fans who were around when Sombra was initially teased will get a bit of déjà vu with a new hint at the upcoming hero. As spotted by Dexerto, when the Overwatch 2 beta went offline on July 19, Blizzard inserted a code for players to check out in the text chat — decoded into a little message that read: "What does the fox say?" It would be surprising if Blizzard inserted this meme-ish line into the game and have it mean nothing. I fully expect the third beta to include a new fox-like Support hero. It's not just this little line too that indicates the appearance of a secret character. A trailer released back in June also hinted at the existence of this new hero, as the trailer showed several heroes on the Kanezaka map chasing after a blue, foxy spirit.   Someone at Blizzard likes those old videos Support heroes have been...

No Man's Sky Endurance Update Freighters Crew Black Holes FreeWhat's the point of flying across the galaxy in a space castle if you can't customize it to your heart's content? That's what the next free update for No Man's Sky, Endurance, hopes to let you accomplish with revamped freighters. Rooms can be altered with fresh looks and themes. Plus, the update allows you to add crew members to your base, and makes the void of space somehow less comforting with better black holes. But before we point out the tentacles in the black, let's chat freighters. Developer Hello Games has completely reworked freighters in the Endurance update for No Man's Sky. Exteriors have gotten a big upgrade with better textures and decoration, making it so your rig really stands out. You can also add exterior catwalks and platforms.   On the inside, you can customize rooms with new themes. If you feel like dressing up a room in greenery, you can. If you want to push that further, then the agricultural modules can turn your fr...

Yars Recharged remake Qotile shields laserIf you grew up playing the Atari 2600, then you might remember a game called Yars' Revenge. Despite receiving some middling reviews upon release, this multi-directional shooter managed to become the best-selling game on its system, and many now see it as a bona fide classic. Having said that, looking at footage of the game online could be a bit headache-inducing due to its multiple flashing colors and flickering sprites. A modern remake could make the visuals easier on the eyes while exposing the gameplay to a whole new audience. Fortunately, developers Adamvision Studios and SneakyBox have stepped up to create this remake, which goes by the name Yars: Recharged. According to a press release, Yars: Recharged represents the latest in Atari's recent lineup of Recharged retro remakes. It sees players taking control of an insect-like Yar warrior as they weave through enemy bullets and shoot down the Qotile and their "mechanical hives." By eliminating enemy shie...
