Vampire Survivors, 2022's break-out game—nay—genre, released its complete 1.0 edition just over a month ago, near the end of October. But if you were worried that meant developer poncle was done, put your worry back in its worry-case, close the lid, clip the clasps, and update your edition to the freshly released 1.10…

It's Black Friday, the day on which the entirety of planet Earth entirely takes leaves of its senses and spends all its money on stuff it doesn't need for 5 percent less than it would have cost yesterday. Planet Earth this year has bought itself an entirely new moon, even though the old one's fine, just because this…

Unlike previous games in the Pokémon mainline series, Scarlet and Violet have made fan-favorite Eevee pretty tricky to catch.      Assassin's Creed is too big – AC: Mirage has to be smaller and shorter

Assassin's Creed, the sweeping stealth RPG game from Ubisoft, has lofty ambitions when it comes to scale and historical scope. The games have a lot to tell you – start up Assassin's Creed: Syndicate, and before you take even a single step as Jacob Frye, there's an in-game message prompting 50-plus "codex entries'' that are available to read. It's perhaps admirable, in a way, this long-form commitment to facts and information, but if the AC series is going to stay fresh, Assassin's Creed: Mirage, which launches ahead of Codename Red and AC: Infinity, needs to be shorter, smaller, and more focused on stealth.

Cities: Skylines build gets medieval ahead of Manor Lords release

Not content to wait for the release of medieval city builder Manor Lords, one fan has created a custom Cities: Skylines build of a fully functional medieval village, bringing together one of the best city-building games on PC with the indie up-and-comer. The old-school village transforms the modern infrastructure of the Paradox management game into more period-appropriate alternatives, including such functionality as a local well to provide both water and a fire service to the town.

In the Curator mission, players are tasked with rescuing the local street art scene using a spray painting hat and some detective work.

While it may not quite put you on the level of Da Vinci, finding all of the Goat Simulator 3 Curator street art locations is necessary if you want to 100% complete the game. This guide will help you find all of the objectives in Goat Simulator 3's Curator Street Art quest so you can complete the mission and reap the rewards in the open world game.

Best Darktide Ogryn build, weapons, and feats

The best Darktide Ogryn build is more utilitarian than destroyer, but that doesn't mean you can't cave heads in while you're keeping the rest of your squad alive. The Ogryn is as close as you're ever going to get to a living tank; a hulking beast, standing head and shoulders above anyone else in your squad, they wield huge chunks of metal like they're a child's toy, and can withstand an immense amount of punishment.

The Ogryn is such a large target for your enemies that creating a DPS build leaves you extremely vulnerable to ranged fire, especially on harder difficulty levels. Creating sustainability not only helps you stay alive longer, but while you're drawing the ire of the horde in the co-op game, your squad can operate around you and decimate your foes.

What if spiders had lightsabers is an impeccable premise for a game, and Spiderheck delivers on that premise with aplomb. It's an arena fighting game geared towards couch co-op and couch competition, but there's online play and single-player modes too. Yesterday's "THE TRIALS OF JAZEPS" update added new difficulty levels to wave survival, as well as custom trials you can send to your friends.

It also chucks in some new maps with portals, because the only thing better than a lightsaber-wielding spider is a lightsaber wielding spider suddenly emerging from a portal.

With the possible exception of Gwent, mini-games inside open world RPGs tend to suck. They're often poor imitations of much deeper and exciting board and card games you can play in the real world, offered as an unwanted break from the monsters I've come to stick a sword through. Will Genshin Impact's upcoming Genius Invokation TCG buck that trend?

Probably not, no, but we'll know for sure when the Version 3.3 update lands on December 7th. There's also a new quest that takes place after the game's main storyline, a couple new playable characters, and a Breakout mini-game. Ah. I do actually quite like Breakout.

We recently had this chat in the RPS hive-mind, and going through each month and making note of my favourite releases completely shocked me with how many fantastic mystery games have come out this year. I'm a huge fan of mysteries in games, with some of my all-time favouites being Kentucky Route Zero, The Return Of The Obra Dinn, and Disco Elysium. Perhaps the full package will pale in comparison to Valve's polish, but the bit in this trailer where the player scurries down a train while contorting around manhacks looks oh-so appetisingly transportative. I think it's time I dug out my lighthouses.

Playing Nidhogg is like playing a dozen frantic games of rock-paper-scissors back to back. Like all the best couch co-op games, it's very easy to get to grips with the controls: you have a sword, and you can raise it or lower it across three different heights to try and get around your opponent's guard. There are other things you can do, like ducking, and jumping, and throwing your sword. But so many fights come down to a tense little close-range shuffle where each player stands just out of range of the other's blade, moving their sword higher and lower in a seconds-long game of chicken.

Oh look, now I'm holding rock! Can you switch to paper fast enough? Nope, now I'm holding scissors! Oh, and now it's paper! Now rock again! Now paper! What will you do?... Oh. You can just jump over me and keep running. Fair enough, I suppose.

Survival games! Oh, the many disparaging remarks I could make if only I had time in between punching rocks and eating an entire deer. It's not often that I recommend one here, and jokes aside, it'd be unfair and untrue to say it's because there aren't enough good ones. It's more that I don't have much room for new ones.

Lilith Odyssey is, if we must, a survival game and a roguelike (oh, the many dispara-[yeah alright, alright. Jesus. - ed.]), but that is reductive. This is a strange and somewhat contradictory game I feel uneasy comparing directly to anything, except possibly the wonderful Taxinaut (which is now on Steam, incidentally). During my journey into the depths of TikTok's dabloon craze, I've joined a cult who worship the high priestess Dabloonis, have sailed across the high seas on a pirate ship called The Dabloonian, and accidentally taken part in a dabloon heist that's now made me a wanted fugitive by the dabloon police. It's been a strange couple of hours.

Dabloontok is TikTok's newest trend, and is probably best described as a chaotic player-generated RPG where users collect an imaginary currency called "dabloons" cashed out by awkwardly photoshopped black cats (usually) in fantasy settings. These cats will either gift you dabloons, steal your dabloons, or tell you what you can do with your dabloons. It's as simple as that, and so far there more than 520 million views on the dabloons hashtag. It's kinda wild.

It's pleasantly squirmy, but will the bridge added in yesterday's appropriately titled "The Tiny One" update be too squirmy?

i was a teenage exocolonist video games 2022

As we take part in this festive time of year, Siliconera staff gets together to reminisce about the new 2022 video game releases we're most thankful for. We're ready to share some of our favorites, and we'd love to know which new games you've appreciated playing so far too.

I Was a Teenage Exocolonist is a game that had been on my radar prior to launch, but I probably would have never actually played it if it wasn't for Siliconera. It's one that has become a personal favourite, between its worldbuilding and its art style. Though some of the writing is a bit too on the nose, it is a fun game with an insane amount of replay value. Posting about it online has also helped me to reconnect with some old mutuals since they were fans of it as well. It's a comfy and idealistic game to play when you just want to have a good time. I'm very excited to see what future patches will bring. — Stephanie

Siliconera Harvestella Video Games We're Thankful for in 2022

Shockingly, out of the 2022 video games I've played so far, I think I'm most thankful for Harvestella. Even though everything about it screams, "This is a game Jenni will play and love," the Nintendo Treehouse gameplay seemed a little janky and I wasn't sold on it. That is, until I played it. The localization is absolutely incredible. I love most of the characters. Also, while some elements aren't perfect, it tells a fantastic story and is a lot of fun to play. — Jenni

DNF Duel 2022 video games

I am thankful for DNF: Duel and its wild play style. I really enjoyed the ridiculous movesets of the characters. Especially my boy, Troubleshooter, and his screen-filling Get On Fire blasts. Every match felt like utter chaos that could turn around with some massive long range attack out of nowhere. Me and my pals were always howling and jumping out of our seats at the unexpected turns and crushing defeats (if I get caught in another Inquisitor Burning Wheel, I swear...). So many fun, powerful moves and great character designs made it a blast to play. — Joel

Tactics Ogre Reborn

It's been a tumultuous 2022, not just for the world but for me personally, with various waves both personal and professional rocking my figurative boat. That kind of stormy weather, familiar and reliable things are what you tend to look for, and Tactics Ogre Reborn was that thing for me.
Sure, it's technically a recent release, barely two weeks old at this point, but as a remake of 2010's Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together, but it brought back very fond memories of whiling hours away submerged in fantasy worlds with my PSP (and later my PS Vita). I even dug out my special set of Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together tarot cards to gawp at for a while.

It's a near-perfect recreation, and even enhancement of one of the best tactical RPGs of all time, and though some of its foibles haven't aged as well in the new age of "quality of life" design, it's well worth the look. — Joel

live a live prehistory

While I've enjoyed a lot of games in 2022, the one that most earns my thanks is Live A Live. It's a loving treatment of a game that didn't totally demand one, and an example of how you can revitalize an old design to appeal to modern audiences. Mostly, it shows a path for localizing a game way after release, and I want to see more projects follow its lead. (Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War, perhaps?) — Graham

trails into reverie vr

For those who have ever wanted to dive into the world of Zemuria, you can. NISA announced The Legend of Heroes: Trails into Reverie will feature VR support for two scenarios. This will only be available for the PC version of the game. PlayStation players will not be able to play the game in VR. This is due to logistical difficulties in implementing it.

You will be able to play the "Beachside Vay-Cay" scenario and the "SSS Summer Splash" DLC with or without VR. These are both beach events. This means that the characters will be walking around in their swimsuits.

The Beachside Vay-Cay will be available as part of the game. However, players will have to buy the SSS Summer Splash scenario as a separate DLC. Beachside Vay-Cay will feature minigames that you can play with your party members. The SSS Summer Splash DLC is the same (complete with the same minigames). However, you will only get to interact with SSS characters.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails into Reverie will be the latest localized entry in the long-running The Legend of Heroes saga. It will conclude both the Crossbell and Erebonia stories, as well as feature characters from both series. The game originally came out in Japan in 2020.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails into Reverie will come out for the PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and Windows PC in Summer 2023. You can pre-order the limited edition from the NISA Online Store. VR support will only be available for the PC version of Trails into Reverie, and the SSS Summer Splash DLC scenario will appear in stores after launch.

Yes, we're still doing this. Once again, we have another gift guide for people taking advantage of Black Friday and Cyber Monday 2022 sales ahead of the holiday season, and this one is for the PS4 and PS5. We have some game suggestions, as well as a few novelties you could consider.

First, the bundle this year is the PS5 God of War: Ragnarok bundle. A number of stores pledged to have them in stock. Best Buy, GameStop, Target, and Walmart are among them. That will be at least $559 for a standard one and $459 for a digital version.

Siliconera's PS4 and PS5 2022 Holiday Gift Guide Sony Nendoroid mini

Fun Novelties That are PS4 and PS5-Adjacent

Sony Nendoroid Classic Minis

Good Smile Company is making Nendoroids of certain Sony characters, sure. But there are also other, smaller options. The Sony Nendoroid Classic Minis are a blind box series. Each one is $16. People can get God of War's Kratos, Jak and Daxter's Jak with Daxter, Journey's Traveler, The Last of Us' Ellie, and Twisted Metal's Sweet Tooth. (There's also a "secret" character.) If you buy someone a full box of six, they'll get one of each figure.

PS5 controller pillow
PlayStation Pillow Buddy

If you need a quick gift for someone and know they like PlayStation consoles, a pillow shaped like a DualSense controller isn't a bad idea. You can find them at stores like Target for $19.99. They're soft. They're versatile. Even if they don't need it as a decoration, they can use it as an actual pillow.

PS5 candle
I Couldn't Get You a PS5, So Here is a Candle Instead

Listen, even though a bunch of stores are pledging to have the PS5 God of War: Ragnarok bundle, you might not be able to get one as a gift. The FragrantCandlesUS Etsy shop sells a "Smells Like You're Not Getting One" PS5-candle. Its label reads, "I couldn't get you a PS5, so here is a candle instead." An 8 oz. candle is $16.73, and you can choose the scent.

Reminder: It is Black Friday in Animal Crossing: New Horizons too

As a reminder to everyone interested in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, there's a Black Friday sale on it in the real-world and in it at the Nook's Cranny store in-game. People looking to buy it can get it for 50% off at certain retailers. Meanwhile, the Nooklings discounted their merchandise in-game until November 30, 2022.

With the Nooklings' Black Friday sale, it is referred to as Nook Friday in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. When you visit the store, everything will be 30% off. This starts every year in-game the day after Thanksgiving. (That's also a yearly special event involving the NPC Franklin.)

As for the real world Animal Crossing: New Horizons Black Friday deals, there are two in 2022. Both Amazon and Walmart are selling physical copies of the game for $29.99. (You need to add it to your cart at Amazon to see the discounted price, though.) Normally, it costs $59.99. This is only a physical deal at both retailers. Some other stores have it for $39.99, and the eShop is selling it at its normal price.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available for the Nintendo Switch. The Nook Friday event will take place in-game until November 30, 2022 and cover everything in Nook's Cranny.

Bandai Namco revealed that Stone Ocean characters Weather Forecast (aka Weather Report) and Father Enrico Pucchi (Final) will come to JoJo's Bizarre Adventure All-Star Battle R. Both characters will be among the December 1, 2022 additions to the game. They'll be joined by a new stage, which also seems to be from part six of the series. The announcement noted that all three items will be free.

First, here's how Stone Ocean's Weather Forecast will look in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure All-Star Battle R.

Next, this is how Father Pucchi (Final) from Stone Ocean will look in the game. This will mark the second version of him there. The first is a standard version of him that appears earlier in part six.

In addition, free character balancing is coming up. That is also shown the upcoming features in a new roadmap. This also noted more content will appear in "Late Winter," "Early Spring," and "Late Spring." That suggests three more drops throughout 2023.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R is available on the PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and Windows PC. The last DLC character to appear was Risotto Nero.

13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim Switch Streaming Guidelines Address Spoilers and Its Ending

Guide to Nintendo Switch Games That Make a Great Holiday Gift for More Advanced or Niche Players

These are the games for folks who you know really love the Switch. I mean, in that case, honestly an eShop card is the safest bet. You might not know exactly what they own, and store credit lets them tick items off their virtual wishlists. But if you really want to get someone a physical copy of something, these are titles that might require a little more thought or advanced knowledge of gaming or the series to enjoy. They are deeper cuts. As with the previous section, their normal price is mentioned.

  • 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim - $34.99
  • AI: The Somnium Files Nirvana Initiative - $59.99
  • Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes - $59.99
  • Pokemon Legends: Arceus - $59.99
  • Digimon Survive - $59.99
  • Harvestella - $59.99
  • Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak - $69.99
  • Triangle Strategy - $59.99
  • Xenoblade Chronicles 3 - $59.99

Fun Novelties That are Switch-Adjacent

Siliconera's 2022 Nintendo Switch Holiday Gift Guide
Monster Hunter Rise Stubbins:

These are cute lil' plush buddies! They're a fun extra to give to someone if you know they like the Monster Hunter Switch games, but you also know they already own the games. I'd recommend the Palico Smoosh Stubbins, since they're more universal than the specific Palamute and Palico styles. That way you also get an option of a cheaper $19.99 10" model and more expensive $29.99 18" one.

Nintendo Switch Holiday Gift Guide 2022 Build-a-Bear
Build-a-Bear Gift Cards

There are both $25 and $50 Build-a-Bear gift cards and collections celebrating Pokemon characters, Animal Crossing NPCs, and even Sonic the Hedgehog and Super Mario sometimes. However, given that some of the bundles can cost over $60, it might be wise to go with a $75 one as a gift.

Xenoblade Chronicles Melia figure
Good Smile Company Figures

The company makes a number of Nintendo-themed Nendoroids, figma, and other figures. These can get a little expensive, though! Not to mention they sell fast, so you might end up paying more than at retail. You could always "buy" a pre-order of one of the Fire Emblem: Three Houses Pop Up Parade figures. Those always go for under $40. The $190.99 Xenoblade Chronicles Melia figure is available now, if someone wants something more expensive.

Nintendo Inkling Splatoon 3 amiibo
Nintendo's own amiibo

Nintendo's own amiibo are also a good fit. They tend to come in between $12.99 and $24.99, depending on the style and size. They are pretty detailed figures to have on hand on their own. They also work in various Switch games, even the ones that don't involve the character they portray. The Splatoon 3 Inkling, Octoling, and Small Fry are the most recent three to debut and cost $15.99 each.
