It's hard to imagine Marvel's Spider-Man on PS4 (and later PS5) without Aunt May. She plays a pivotal role in the game, appearing in many cutscenes alongside other main characters in the story. Yet, according to Dan Slott, Insomniac wasn't sure if it could create a realistic and good-looking old character in the game…

Grand Theft Auto is one of the biggest, most popular video game franchises in history. It has sold millions of games across nearly every platform released since the PS1 and courted more controversy than perhaps any other video game series ever created. And it's done all this while mostly avoiding Nintendo consoles.

Mass Effect 3's original ending had a Reaper Queen rather than the Catalyst

It's fair to say that the ending of Mass Effect 3, and so BioWare's entire Mass Effect trilogy, remains divisive to this day - and that's in large part due to the child-like Catalyst. The Mass Effect 3 original ending, however, featured a god-like Reaper Queen instead - and a possibly straight Paragon or Renegade choice.

Mass Effect 3's current ending features players having to make a choice between three possibilities - Destroy, Synthesis, and Control - as orchestrated with the consciousness of the Reaper architect, the Catalyst. Destroy wipes out the Reapers, all synthetic life, and possibly Earth. Control sees Shepard merges and controlling the Reapers. Synthesis fuses organic and synthetic life galaxy-wide.

According to former BioWare animation director Dave Wilkinson in an interview with YouTube channel People Make Games (via GamingBible), it wasn't always like this. Originally, Shepard - who was supposed to become a Deus Ex-like augment - plugged himself into the Citadel and had a conversation in virtual space with "the god of the Reapers" or a Reaper Queen.

You can change your Battle.net name for free, if you're quick

In honour of a major character's name change happening in Overwatch this month, Activision Blizzard has announced that any players who "might have the desire to do the same" will be able to change their Battle.net username entirely for free - but only within a certain time frame.

It was announced back in August that Overwatch gunslinger character McCree would be changing his name, thanks to being named after lead level designer Jesse McCree, who was let go from Blizzard in the wake of a lawsuit filed against the company by California's Department of Fair Employment and Housing. From this Tuesday, October 26, McCree will become "Cole Cassidy" instead.

In connection with this name change, Blizzard Entertainment has revealed that it's giving players the chance to change their own names on Battle.net too, for free. Anyone who wants to change their BattleTag can simply head here and submit a ticket on the Overwatch support page and Blizzard's team will process the name change within about thirty days.

     GTFO is leaving early access

Co-op survival horror title GTFO has been in early access for almost two years, but now developer 10 Chambers has confirmed that the game will leave early access at last. GTFO version 1.0 will launch "later this year" - but make sure to pick it up soon if you haven't done so already, as it's getting a price hike on November 1.

10 Chambers promised way back in March 2020 - just four months after the Left 4 Dead-inspired game came out - that GTFO would leave early access in 2021. It's come very close to breaking that promise, but fortunately the team now confirms that version 1.0 will indeed release in the next couple of months - although it still doesn't have an exact release date yet.

However, this doesn't mean 10 Chambers is done with GTFO. The team has provided around 50 expeditions within GTFO's five Rundowns so far, and narrative director Simon Viklund confirms that "Rundown updates will continue with GTFO in Version 1.0," hopefully allaying fan concerns.

A Wu-Tang Clan fantasy RPG is reportedly in the works

Supposedly a new Wu-Tang Clan "third-person fantasy RPG" is in works at Microsoft and new developer Brass Lion Entertainment, which includes veterans from BioWare and Bethesda. The new title will reportedly be based on "Wu-Tang Clan lore" and the band will create the soundtrack too.

This is according to journalist Jez Corden, who says in the latest episode of the Xbox Two podcast (thanks VGC) that he first heard about the Wu-Tang RPG back in July - which is apparently codenamed "Shaolin", probably in reference to the rivalry between the Shaolin and Wu-tang martial arts styles, which actually popped up in September's Nvidia GeForce Now games leak.

Corden says that the game "use Wu-Tang Clan lore" and that it's a "third-person fantasy action-RPG revolving around melee combat," with four-player co-op, a "beefy campaign" with "a couple of dozen hours" of play, looting, seasonal content, dungeon crawling, and end-game content - with Corden making a specific comparison to Minecraft Dungeons, although he's pretty sure it's not an isometric game like Diablo.
