Lost Ark devs aim to make endgame less

Amazon Games and Smilegate RPG are toning down some of Lost Ark's endgame content. In a forum post, the pair revealed that six Guardian Raids and four Abyss Dungeons are changing as certain players feel they are more "tedious than fun".

"Difficulty is a hot topic when it comes to Lost Ark's endgame content, and we've seen a lot of feedback around specific raids and dungeons that have left players feeling like they are more tedious than fun," community manager Roxx says. "In response to this feedback, we'll be adjusting the difficulty of the following T1 and T2 content to make things a bit easier."

The raids up for nerfs are Vertus, Nacrasena, Flame Fox Yoho, Tytalos, Achates, and Alberhastic. As for dungeons, you can expect to see Necromancer's Origin, Hall of the twisted Warlord, Hilderbrandt Palace, and Sea of Indolence reined in. The balance tweaks will happen during Lost Ark's weekly update, which typically falls on a Thursday. The devs will provide more in-depth patch notes on the day.

XCOM 2's multiplayer will be shut down this month

It's now six years after XCOM 2 released on Steam, and one of the best strategy games on PC is about to lose two big features. In a new update, developer Firaxis Games reveals it will shut XCOM 2's multiplayer and other online modes by the end of this month.

XCOM 2 is one of the best turn-based strategy games ever made, but it seems like the online side of the game may not be that popular. XCOM 2's multiplayer consisted of players taking control of humans and aliens to mix-and-match a squad, similar to the first game. An online leaderboard-based Challenge Mode was also added with the War of the Chosen expansion.

Unfortunately for fans of these modes, Firaxis has announced that it "will be retiring services for multiplayer and Challenge Mode for the Steam version" of XCOM 2 on March 28, 2022 - although this only applies to PC users as the Mac version won't be touched, apparently. On this date, XCOM 2 will receive an update that will remove both modes.

Corsair HS80 review – clear comms and murky mids

The Corsair HS80 is a wireless gaming headset with RGB, spatial audio, and a recommended retail price of $149.99 / £139.99 - not quite reaching the premium heights of the Corsair Virtuoso XT, but far from a budget choice.

The HS80's specialisation is, unsurprisingly, gaming. The headset's designed to deliver the most accurate spatial audio experience possible using Dolby Atmos, with its 50mm drivers handling a respectable 20Hz-40kHz frequency response. Ostensibly this will help you identify each and every little goblin/gunman/gelatinous blob scuffling around your periphery and avoid getting shot in the head, or at least identify where you got shot from.

The HS80 isn't quite an all-rounder, however; there are a few issues to consider, including the HS80's sound profile and limited connectivity options. The HS80 only offers two methods of connection: 24-bit 96kHz USB wired and 24-bit 48kHz wireless via a USB dongle. The wireless range is advertised at 60ft, though presumably that's unobstructed; in my small flat, it starts cutting out as I leave the room and walk down the hall. It's decent, but nothing impressive. There's no Bluetooth, so it won't play with your phone, although the HS80 is compatible with consoles and Macs.

Destiny 2 Void subclasses and best builds

With the launch of The Witch Queen, Destiny 2 introduces some changes to the game's Void subclasses. Void 3.0 gives players more flexibility to spec their characters to align with their playstyles. The changes enhance the characters' core Void abilities, so players who have a longstanding favourite Void subclass don't need to learn entirely new mechanics.

Previously, character subclass ability trees were geared toward melee options, super abilities, and two passives. The new modifications lend themselves to combinations of actions that ultimately result in more powerful attacks, defences, and buffs. The new format encourages more experimentation with power builds and optimisation. Weapon perks, armour mods, and Exotics all have the potential to provide even more powerful options to the player. Here, we break down what a player can expect from the new Void subclasses and also offer some tips for developing a power build to suit any playstyle.

The revamped Void subclasses group class abilities, movement abilities, melee and grenades, and offers several new grenade options. Players can further modify these abilities through Aspects and Fragments. Aspects are specific to each class and enhance the character's foundational abilities. Fragments are the same for all Void character classes and also modify character abilities, but aren't as individually powerful as Aspects.

GTA Trilogy update takes aim at clipping, first-person, and haircuts

Since it was released last year, the Grand Theft Auto Definitive Edition trilogy has had a rough time, as some players immediately noticed that it shipped with a lot of issues - like some blinding rain. Hopefully the new GTA Trilogy 1.04 update will get this collection of some of the best open-world games ever made back on track.

The GTA Trilogy remasters came out in November last year and were immediately called out by groups of players due to a large number of issues with all three games, including some "unintentionally included" files that got it pulled from sale on PC.

Take-Two's CEO promised that fixes were coming, and sure enough, today Rockstar Games released patch 1.04 for the Grand Theft Auto trilogy with a lot of improvements listed. The full patch notes can be found here. According to Rockstar Intel, on PC these updates require 18.5GB for GTA San Andreas, 8.9GB for GTA Vice City, and 4.18GB for GTA III, so they're all pretty sizeable.

Valheim update adds Frost Cave dungeons stuffed with loot

Iron Gate has filled Valheim's Mountain biome with even more ways to face baddies and snag loot. The new update for the Viking game adds Frost Cave dungeons that are stuffed with familiar and undiscovered foes alongside crafting materials you can use to create a new weapon, armour, and building items.

The Mountain update's new Frost Caves are instanced dungeons that work similarly to the Black Forest's Burial Chambers or the Swamps' Sunken Crypts. You won't find Frost Caves in set locations, though there's a solid chance you'll stumble across one when you see a new stretch of land on a snowy mountain.

If you do venture into one of them, you'll face wolves, cultists, and bats on your way to collecting the red jute, fenring hair, and fenring claw crafting items. Those materials can be used to create a fenring-themed armour set, a new weapon called Flesh Rippers, and some more build pieces - such as the red jute carpet, red jute curtain, and standing brazier. There's also a new enemy event. While Iron Gate is keeping its cards close to its chest regarding what it'll involve, it'll imminently follow the words "you stirred the cauldron" being plastered across the screen.

The best long reads on PCGamesN

We don't know about you, but we've recently found ourselves with considerably more time on our hands for reading (well, that and building pillow forts, staring out of the window, and seeing how much Nutella it's possible to eat in one sitting). The problem is, we've gone through that 100 Things to do on the Toilet book in the bathroom 100 times now, and our takeaway menus are wearing thin - and making us hungry.

For those of you in the same boat, we've put together this list of excellent PCGamesN longreads from the archives. It spans a broad range of topics including raid design, accidental brewery ownership, the realism of Resident Evil (no, really), the historical accuracy of Assassin's Creed Odyssey, jewel theft in GTA, the never-ending Half-Life 3 saga, and even Farming Simulator as an esport.

It's a varied old offering, which we hope you will greatly enjoy. We'll keep adding to it, too, updating the page with new articles and more unearthed gems, so check back often - especially on those occasions you find yourself so full of chocolate spread that your only remaining option is to sit down and take in something other than food.

Lost Ark Power Pass – what is it and how do you use it

So you want to know about the Lost Ark Power Pass? Alt characters are an understated facet of MMO games. In Lost Ark's case it's almost expected that you have many alts to feed resources into a few core characters, especially if you're trying to farm currency like Lost Ark gold and silver.

But even if you want to have more than one main character - perhaps there are a few Lost Ark classes that catch your eye - levelling each one to the max level can be a pain. Thankfully, the developers of this highly anticipated game understand this and are here to give you a boost - the Power Pass.

This handy consumable lets you level another new character from level 10 to level 50 rapidly through what is called an 'Adventurers' Path' quest, which is a condensed version of the typical journey a player would go through. It guides your alt-character through the key beats of your class progression so that you don't end up with a new max-level character that you don't understand how to use. But how do you get one of these coveted boosts? Here's everything you need to know about the Lost Ark Power Pass.

League of Legends patch 12.5 notes – Bees! champion skins, Master Yi changes

The updates keep on coming, LoL fans. League of Legends patch 12.4 has made its way to the live Rift, bringing a raft of new skins, champion balance changes, and - of course - steely new Champon Renata Glasc. That means it's now time to see what's headed our way with its follow-up update. While the latest round of skins gave Kassadin, Shen, and Qiyana some dazzling new Shockblade styles, this fortnight's offerings are fare more whimsical. Let's take a look.

The new skins coming with League of Legends patch 12.5 add more champions to the game's Bees! alternate universe, with four new looks on the way. As you'd expect, the names are pun-tastic, with Heimerstinger, Nunu and Beelump, Orbeeanna, and BZZZiggs joining the skin line. You can check out the in-game clips of these in action and their splash art in the skins section below.

As for balance changes, this cycle we're not seeing too many champions getting a round of buffs or nerfs, though if you're a Seraphine or Master Yi main, you'll want to check out the updates below as they're both receiving a few key tweaks each.

Elden Ring is an action-RPG filled with untold horrors. Tentacled masses that writhe on shores, goblins that'll hack at your knees, corrupted priests that sling fireballs. They are mysterious, to a degree, but they're also quite easy to read. Your innards? Their tea.

But what makes the game great is its capacity for surprise, the deep well of lore – the gaps left for us to fill. The goats. What's up with them, huh? Can anyone tell me what's up with the goats in Elden Ring?

Elden Ring RPG Elements Scale and Lore - three tenets of FromSoftware development and creation from interview

In a pre-release production staff interview, FromSoftware revealed that the development team focused on three core tenets when creating Elden Ring. These included scale, RPG elements, and lore that ultimately created the core experience of Elden Ring. The development team revealed that scale was important for creating a sense of variety in the game. This includes the creation of various castles, caves, and dungeons that players can actively explore in Elden Ring. The developers worked to ensure that these areas would be connected seamlessly throughout the open world.

However, while scale was an important factor when creating Elden Ring, FromSoftware wanted the RPG elements of the game to allow for true variety in playstyle. The intention was to enable players to pursue their own method of exploration.

You can watch the Elden Ring pre-release production staff interview below. It features English and Japanese subtitles.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fP_SmxASo5Q

The video also delves into the creative process of Elden Ring's lore. It reiterates that Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin provided the foundation for Elden Ring. Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki was already a fan of Martin's work. While Martin provided lore regarding events having taken place before the narrative of the game, the team was able to create the scenario. This also helped FromSoftware develop the general gameplay that would appear in Elden Ring.

A recent interview with Famitsu revealed several more key development details regarding Elden Ring. This included its parallel development with Sekiro.

Elden Ring is available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC. You can read our review of the PC version, with PlayStation 5 impressions.
