Nintendo's Splatoon 3 Direct broadcast dumped a tidal wave of info on waiting fans. The "Squid Research Lab" presentation detailed locales like the new hub area of Splatsville, and its many shops. It also detailed the game's post-release and app support. But how about the game itself? There was info on that subject, too, as the Direct had plenty to say about Splatoon 3 modes of play. The core mode of Splatoon 3 is the same as in the previous two games: Turf War. Turf War puts each team on opposite sides of the map and challenges them to paint as much of the area as possible. They'll use their weapons to spread paint around the arena and over the territory of their opponents. New weapons such as the bow-like Stringer and the sword-like Splatana Wiper add new options for Inklings in the fight. Special Weapons unleash powerful attacks after players fill a gauge during combat. The Tacticooler can buff up to four players when deployed. The Wave Breaker sends out damaging waves that ping enemy locations. The Reefslider sends a player forward in a powerful charge that explodes on impact. Other game modes for Splatoon 3 include returning modes like the cooperative Salmon Run and a single-player story mode. A new minigame will also give players things to do outside of combat. Called Tableturf Battle, it's a deck-building game that adapts Turf War to a card game format. Each card in Table Turf battle colors squares on the grid in a certain pattern. Players will lay out their cards to create shapes to capture territory and unleash special attacks. Players get a starter deck, and will be able to add more cards to unlock options. It wasn't detailed how players would earn more cards, though. Check out the segment on Tableturf battle at about 35 minutes into the broadcast. During the Splatoon 3 Direct on August 10, 2022, Nintendo revealed more information on Splatsville, which will be the main hub in the game. Splatsville is a neighborhood "in the heart of the Splatlands" that's the place to be if you're an Inkling looking for things to do. The video introduces some of the stores you can visit to stock up on gear or weapons, as well as some activities you can participate in. Ammo Knights takes Sheldon Licenses, which you can obtain when you level up in battle or when you increase the proficiency of a weapon. Other shops the Direct introduces are Naut Couture, which sells head gear. Man-o'-Wardrobe is the boutique and Crush Station sells shoes. Gear is not only for aesthetics, but fashion increases stats as well. Splatsville is more than just stores in Splatoon 3. You can use the mailbox to post pictures. Pictures will appear in the city, as well as in stages. The concession stand also provides food for buffs such as more EXP, and you can also play locally from The Shoal. There is also a Photo Mode. Aside from sharing photos online, you can also put them in your locker. Splatoon 3 will be available worldwide on the Nintendo Switch on September 9, 2022. People who have played Splatoon 2 will receive many bonuses in Splatoon 3 when they carry over their save data to the new game. Nintendo made the announcement with a new post on the game's official website shortly after holding the Splatoon 3 Direct presentation stream. When a player boots Splatoon 3 with an account that has Splatoon 2 save data, they will be given instant access to Anarchy Battles and, depending on their rank in the older game, start the newer game with a higher rank. The game will match them with other former Splatoon 2 players with a similar skill level. It will also reward them with three Gold Sheldon Licenses, which they can use to obtain any available main weapons. Additionally, Nintendo also revealed some details about Splatoon 3's save data. The game will save the Story Mode progression data internally in the console, although players can also upload it to the Nintendo Switch Online's cloud backup. Data related to online matches, such as player ranks and gear collections, will be linked to the player's account and placed on an online server. If the player has multiple Switch units with the same account registered, they will be able to play Splatoon 3 on any of them with the same save data. Splatoon 2 is available worldwide on Nintendo Switch. Splatoon 3 will come to the same platform on September 9, 2022. The August 2022 Splatoon 3 Direct presentation stream revealed many new details on Nintendo's upcoming shooting game. Some of the new information announced at the stream include post-launch support plans and a dedicated SplatNet 3 app. SplatNet 3 will appear inside the Nintendo Switch Online mobile app. Users with an active paid subscription will be able to access the Splatoon 3 hub, where they can check their battle records or purchase special gear. One of the new segments that the app will have is Crusty Sean's Wandercrust, where players can contribute Inked Points they've earned from battles to support Sean's journeys. SplatNet 3 will launch on the same day Splatoon 3 releases, which is September 9, 2022. The Direct stream also revealed Nintendo's plans for Splatoon 3's post-launch support. The company will release new content via periodical catalogs every three months, with a total duration of two years following the game's release. Each catalog will also come with new weapons. More battle modes like X Battle and League Battle are also slated to come through post-release updates. While most of the aforementioned content will be available for free, Nintendo also revealed plans to release a major content expansion as paid DLC. Splatoon 3 will be available worldwide for Nintendo Switch on September 9, 2022. Nintendo will also release a Switch Pro Controller and carrying case with the game's design on the same day. The team wrote on Twitter it was to "expand the experience," but apparently that wasn't the entire story. In a rare act of frankness in this industry the CEO of the developer, Patrick Söderlund, revealed a bit more on the reason why. Embark has been working on several games, and one happened to pull ahead during development. The currently named Project Discovery is a game that is wrapping up faster than ARC Raiders, and will now end up launching first. With Project Discovery in the lead, ARC Raiders is getting pushed to the side. To be fair, that doesn't mean ARC will get worse treatment. Embark meant what it said in its message yesterday, and the team working on it now has more time to make it even better.
