They allow vast journeys to happen within areas that are modest when judged in terms of square footage, journeys that encompass a multitude of locations that have an inherent, automatic atmosphere: tantalising forks in the path and mocking dead ends, hubs with corridors leading in all directions, leisurely perimeter paths and gristly knots of inner passages. As such, I think they're useful to reflect on at a time when the mantra of growth for its own sake has conquered the heart of videogame world design: bigger budgets for grander maps in terms of both explorable area and computational resource, all the way to Armageddon (did you know that Suicide Squad's Metropolis is twice the size of Arkham Knight's Gotham City?). But don't take it from me, an armchair developer with armchair socialist sensibilities. Take it from The Legend of Zelda. |

Forget the operatic choral chants of Final Fantasy bosses. The new rallying cry against peak villainy is now some no-nonsense British commentary about the state of human extinction. It works surprisingly, well, and Small Saga is a game shot through with these kinds of Britishisms, set in the parks, streets and underbelly of modern-day London. Only this isn't an RPG about humans, but the rodents that live beneath their feet - the mice, rats, squirrels and moles who have developed a kind of proto-medieval society of their own built from the trash and discarded objects they've scavenged from under our noses. In this world, humans are terrifying 'gods', supermarkets with their shelves of seeds and grain are called 'Heaven', and your main mode of transportation is a pigeon with a wicker basket. It's a fascinating world solo developer Darya Noghani has created here, and it would be a thrilling turn-based RPG, too - if only its battles didn't completely cheese it when it comes to providing any sense of challenge. |

The age-rating board PEGI (Pan-European Game Information) updated its website with a rating for the upcoming Dragon's Dogma 2, as well as listing a possible release date of March 22, 2024. The information comes ahead of the announced Dragon's Dogma 2 showcase slated for the end of November. [Thanks, @Wario64!]
The PEGI page lists the game as having an 18 rating, with warnings for violence and in-game purchases. It is currently unknown what form those purchases will take, as they could be anything from consumable items and experience boosters to simple cosmetic options like the original Dragon's Dogma offered. The most interesting part is the listed release date that has yet to be released by Capcom themselves. It notes that people could expect it to appear March 22, 2024, and it is the same for PC, Xbox Series X, and PS5.
At the time of writing, the PEGI website is undergoing maintenance, but you can find a screenshot of the rating page with the release date and platforms attached to the Wario64 tweet below:
At the Japan Game Awards 2023, Dragon's Dogma 2 made the list as part of the Future Division, while information on the game's advanced classes was shared back in September at the 2023 Tokyo Game Show. Earlier this year, Director Hideaki Itsuno and Producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi also spoke to Siliconera about the game's mechanics and hidden themes.
Dragon's Dogma 2 has an apparant release date of March 22, 2023, and is headed to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.

When the 7.1 update arrives, a new Griseo battlesuit will appear in Honkai Impact 3rd. HoYoVerse detailed Cosmic Expression, an SP rank unit, in a new video ahead of its debut.
The video begins with some gameplay showing how this grown-up version of Griseo fights. While the original battlesuit for her was based on her younger self and involved painting elements, here she is wielding a light saber-like sword. The announcement also confirmed she will be the game's first SD character.
After the gameplay, it mentions she was part of Project Ark. This sent her across the universe, and meant she grew up in a sense of stasis before returning. Due to her new wanderer role, her tools like star charts and a telescope, are attached to her dress. The videos of the designers show them using a dual-bladed light saber during the process, and the team mentioned fellow Flame Chaser member Vill-V gave her a pen-like laser saber and sci-fi videos to watch while traveling. The idea is her moveset is inspired by the entertainment she watched and feature "cosmic" elements.

As a reminder, the 7.0 update added a Theresa Apocalypse variant. The Lunar Vow: Crimson Love battlesuit debuted in October 2023. Before that we saw a Promare crossover in 6.9.
Honkai Impact 3rd is available for the PC and mobile devices, and the Griseo Cosmic Expression battlesuit appears in 7.1. The new update is expected to appear in November 2023.

I often admire the protagonists of stories where a regular person is reborn as the villain or villainess of a fantasy world. They can always find a way to dodge death flags and avert their gruesome fate in creative ways thanks to their intimate knowledge of the world they are reborn into. Catarina Claes from My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom manages to do this in the most hilarious ways, and as I played through My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom Pirates of the Disturbance Switch game, I realized I wouldn't mind being reborn as a villainess if I could spend my time eating good food and being unknowingly romanced by a bunch of cute guys on a cruise ship.
My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom: Pirates of the Disturbance is a spin-off otome Switch game by Otomate and Idea Factory based on the light novel, manga, and anime by Satoru Yamaguchi. It features Catarina, a young woman born into nobility, who awakens to her memories of being an otome game-playing high school student after hitting her head as a child. As she remembers her unfortunate death in her past life, Catarina realizes she has been reincarnated as the villainess of the fictional otome game "Fortune Lover," and that means a number of horrible and deadly fates await her.
After avoiding all of the potential death flags and bad endings that were present in the fictional otome game, she survives and makes it to spring break where Catarina and her friends set sail on the maiden voyage of a luxury sea liner, but danger lurks in the horizon. Not too long after they make it out on the open water, Catarina finds herself thrust into another potential death flag as pirates hijack the ship. Catarina realizes that this is eerily familiar to a side adventure based on a fan book for "Fortune Lover," where pirates attack the luxury liner and hold all of the noble guests hostage. As she begins to recognize the familiar plot line, Catarina must find a way to avoid new death flags while also discovering new truths from the different love interests surrounding her, and also learn more about her own feelings along the way.
Having played through many otome games in the past, it is always refreshing to be thrust into a story with a protagonist that has an active role in her story and has an actual personality. Often times in visual novels, the player character is meant to serve as an avatar for the player themselves, which often means the player character is a bit of a blank slate who feels passive even in their own story. In My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom: Pirates of the Disturbance on the Switch, Catarina absolutely has a defined personality that radiates comedic energy mixed with considerate wisdom due to her foreknowledge about the events of "Fortune Lover." Every action Catarina takes is done with great consideration for her friends, ensuring everybody else gets the happy ending they deserve, all the while trying to avoid triggering any proverbial landmines that could lead straight to her death or exile. In order to do this, she often makes rather silly choices or avoids any conflict by focusing on her plants or eating lots of food. Without even realizing it, Catarina's actions endear many of the characters around her into either having a crush on her or wanting to be her friend.
My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom: Pirates of the Disturbance has six main romantic routes that players can choose from: Geordo, Alan, Keith, Nicol, Rozy, and Silva. For players who have had experience with the series before, Geordo, Alan, Keith, and Nicol are the four main male leads of My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom. All four of them have known Catarina since their childhood, each with their own unique relationships with her. Geordo is the prince of Sorcier and also Catarina's fiance. He puts on a friendly, yet distant facade, around others but is secretly extremely obsessed with Catarina. Alan is Geordo's brother who has always felt like he's lived in his brother's shadow. Catarina has always stood by his side and encouraged him since they were young, which has help improve his confidence considerably. Keith is Catarina's adopted brother who has been her steadfast companion for years, often trying to ground Catarina and keep her from getting in trouble with their parents. Nicol is the son of the prime minister of Sorcier who also happens to be extremely devoted to his younger sister Sophia. He keeps on a distant facade around others, but is drawn to Catarina and finds himself opening up to her throughout the years.
The other two, new romance options are Rozy and Silva. Rozy is an engineer from Quid. He works as a crew member of the luxury liner that Catarina is on with her friends, and who also happened to meet Catarina as a child after she shared candy with him. Silva, the other romantic option, is the captain of the Weiss pirates who have taken over the ship. He has a harsh exterior, but is very loyal and caring to those who he is close with.
One hurdle My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom: Pirates of the Disturbance had to overcome is the fact that the other four romantic options already have a considerable amount of backstory with Catarina prior to the game's events. For anybody who has read the manga and light novel or watched the anime, they already know what sort of experiences these characters have had with Catarina prior to the game, but for anybody fresh to the game, they would have to jump on board a romance that was already half-way developed thanks to the events earlier in the series. Even though Catarina herself was not aware of her own feelings for the male leads around her, at times it could feel like the game was relying too heavily of previous events outside of this game to sell the romances between Catarina and the male leads. The other hurdle the game had to overcome was to make Rozy and Silva appealing choices for fans coming into the game having already likely chosen a favorite male love interest from the show to be biased toward. More character development work had to go into creating a well-written romance between Catarina and the two new male romantic choices.
Even with these hurdles in mind, My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom: Pirates of the Disturbance does manage to make all of the romantic choices feel well-developed over the course of the Switch game even without spending much time developing the four existing male leads. With Catarina's romantic feelings being fairly underdeveloped for all of these characters, it allows the player to watch the organic growth of Catarina's own feelings as she and the other characters attempt to break free of the pirates' hold on the luxury liner. Every route also feels fresh because there is very little crossover between each path. They all have their own unique storylines that reveals different information about the events of Pirates of the Disturbance.
My favorite of all of the routes ended up being Silva's route, due to the fact he is the only character of the bunch who didn't already know Catarina, which allowed the most room for some interesting character development between them. Meanwhile, the only storyline I was least interested in was Keith's, because I wasn't interested in seeing Catarina fall in love with her adopted brother. Early on in the game he displays a very responsible brother role for Catarina to keep her in line, and I preferred that side of their relationship.
My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom: Pirates of the Disturbance also has a friendship route where Catarina does not develop any romantic relationship with the six male leads. This was actually the route I unlocked first as I played. I considered how Catarina would approach the story herself as a character trying to avoid any death flags. She would have misinterpreted any romantic flag as a death flag, and thusly avoided any of her six potential suitors. As I progressed through the friendship route, though, I couldn't help but wonder why the game only allowed the female friends of Catarina to only be friends as it is abundantly clear they also have crushes on Catarina and would do anything for her, similar to the crushes that the male leads have on her. While I understand that the game chose the six male leads specifically because it falls in line with traditional otome games, I think there were some interesting storylines left unexplored due to not allowing the female friends to also be romantic interests.
As I played through the game, I never experienced any issues on my Nintendo Switch. The visuals were crisp and clean without any blurry assets. Transitions between scenes and chapters never felt sluggish, and any save file for My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom: Pirates of the Disturbance would boot almost instantly from the main menu.
The high quality art direction in this game matches up well to the art design of the anime, making it easy for anime fans to transition between the show and the game without feeling like there is a major contrast between the art styles. My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom: Pirates of the Disturbance also feels like it has a good budget, which allowed for well-drawn characters, backgrounds, and CGs.
Despite the fact that the game expects players to have watched the anime or read through the light novels and manga, this Switch game stands on its own well enough without having prior knowledge about the My Next Life as a Villainess series. As I mentioned earlier, the game does assume that the player has watched the anime or read the manga or light novels, but the game is good about establishing who each character is and what their relationship is to Catarina. Anybody who loves playing otome games should have no problem diving into the world of My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! with this game, and it can be an interesting gateway into the rest of the series given that the game is treated as self-contained story. Fans of the series will absolutely find this game delightful for the new storylines of their favorite characters and get the chance to see Catarina accidentally stumble into more hilarious situations thinking they are death flags when they are actually romance flags.

Capcom announced a new showcase presentation for the upcoming action-RPG Dragon's Dogma 2. The livestream will be held on November 28, 2023 at 1pm PT/4pm ET/9pm GMT.
Director Hideaki Itsuno and Producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi will deliver new gameplay information during a 15 minutes long livestream presentation. The showcase will be available to watch on the North American Capcom Twitch channel, and Capcom's official YouTube channel.

Previously, Capcom showed new information on Dragon's Dogma 2 during Tokyo Game Show 2023, where a new trailer revealed the Mystic Spearhand and Magick Archer vocations. The trailer also showed new gameplay footage and details about the game's world.
Previous information shared by Capcom revealed that the world of Dragon's Dogma 2 will be roughly four times bigger than that of the first entry, and the new Beastren characters. In a recent interview, Itsuno revealed that there will be subtle but noticeable differences between playing as human or beastren character.
Dragon's Dogma 2 is currently in development, and it will appear on the Playstation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC via Steam. The new showcase livestream will be held on November 28, 2023 at 1pm PT/9pm GMT.

HoYoVerse announced the start date for the new Zenless Zone Zero Equalizing Test second closed beta. The new closed beta test will start on November 24, 2023 at 11:00 UTC+8 (or November 23, 2023 at 7pm PT/10pm ET,) and will be available on PC and mobile devices.
The deadline to sign up for the upcoming Equalizing Test finished at the end of November 17, 2023 on UTC+8 time (8:00am PT/11:00am ET). The new beta test was initially announced back on November 5, 2023, and will be supported on PC and mobile platforms.
Ever since the reveal of the upcoming second closed beta test, HoYoVerse has been sharing new information about combat mechanics in Zenless Zone Zero, alongside other details such as the available elemental and fighting styles, and the different kinds of enemies players will encounter in the game.
Additionally, HoYoVerse recently revealed two new playable characters. The first one is Rina, a unit belonging to Victoria Housekeeping, and the second one is Grace Howard, from Belobog Heavy Industries.
Zenless Zone Zero is currently in development for PCs, mobile devices, and unspecified consoles. The Zenless Zone Zero Equalizing Test will be held on November 24, 2023, and will be available on PC and mobile devices.

In late December 2023, NieR Automata game streaming audio mixers from Yamaha will appear. Two game streaming audio mixers in colors inspired by 2B and 9S will be produced, and they will cost $329.95 each. [Thanks, Famitsu!]
The NieR Automata gaming audio mixers will allow the user to adjust the volume of each input sound source they use while streaming. (For example, game audio and voice chat are two of the options.) It can be connected to PCs, consoles, and smart devices, and it offers Discord and OBS/Streamlabs support. It will also allow the user to adjust the microphone with compression, limiter, reverb, pitch, radio voice, echo, and other voice effects. All of these settings can be fine-tuned from the ZG controller app, where you can save and customize presets.
The model based off of 2B's color scheme will be called "ZG01 042," and the 9S model will be "ZG01 153." These numbers are in reference to the main characters' respective pods. ZG01 042 is white, and ZG01 153 is black in color.

To celebrate the release of Persona 5 Tactica, Atlus has released a line of new official merchandise featuring its characters. The new goods can be purchased from the official Japanese Atlus website.
The new Persona 5 Tactica items available include a die-cut pillow, ecobag, tissue case, cup sleeve, pin badges, keychains, clear files, and acrylic stands featuring the characters. The cup sleeve makes it appear that your drink was purchased from Sojiro Sakura's coffee and curry café, Leblanc. The cushion features an illustration of Morgana happily jumping with a Persona 5-esque red star background.

Kadokawa and Good Smile Company have revealed a 1/7 scale figure of Kana Arima from Oshi no Ko. Pre-orders for the figure are immediately available on multiple online storefronts.
This figure will depict Kana in her idol uniform, as she takes part in the newly revived B-Komachi unit. The scaled figure will stand at around 22cm (8.66in) tall.
The figure will be available at ¥20,900 / $131.99. An alternate head part with a winking face will be available as an exclusive bonus in select storefronts. People who place pre-orders on Good Smile Online Shop U.S. in North America and AmiAmi elsewhere worldwide will be able to get the bonus part.
Kadokawa has also published a couple of trailers promoting Kana's figure on its KDcolle YouTube channel:
This is not the only figure for Kana Arima that was revealed in November 2023. Earlier in the month, Bandai Spirits revealed a 16cm (6.3in) tall figure of the same character but with a different pose. This figure will be available as a reward in Banpresto's crane games across Japan on November 21, 2023.
Good Smile Company is also producing more Oshi no Ko figures on its own. The company is preparing to release Nendoroids of Kana, Aqua, Ruby, and Ai, as well as a Pop Up Parade figure of Ai Hoshino, in 2024.
The 1/7 scale figure of Kana Arima from Oshi no Ko will be released in June 2024 in Japan and Q4 2024 in North America. The pre-order window for the figure will close on January 17, 2024.

The new Hello Kitty Island Adventure update is live, and it is holiday season and My Melody themed with a Give & Gather event and bunny avatar options. They join My Sweet Piano, My Melody-themed visitors, and new multiplayer elements.
First, there are now bunny avatar designs in the Hello Kitty Island Adventure character creator. Existing players can change their look by going to a mirror in-game, such as the one in Tuxedosam's shop. New players will see these options right away.
As for the new characters, there are five. My Sweet Piano is the new permanent resident. That means after the update, you can befriend her and see quests involving her. The temporary characters who can visit are all members of My Melody's family. So her parents and grandparents can all stop by and, if you befriend them, move in.
As for the new Hello Kitty Island Adventure event, the Give & Gather one is inspired by holidays like Christmas. Until December 26, 2023, players can help Cinnamoroll, who serves as the mailman, deliver gifts and get rewards in return.
Here's the trailer for the update. It also mentions how there will be friendship levels for other players you play with via multiplayer, that the Heart of Friendship Island quest is continuing, and there are quality of life improvements.
This comes after the addition of Little Twin Stars as permanent residents and a Kuromi-based Halloween event.

Bliss Brain announced that Princess Maker 2 Regeneration will no longer come out on December 21, 2023. Instead, it has to delay the game until May 30, 2024. [Thanks, 4Gamer!]
According to Bliss Brain, the reason for the delay is so that the company can improve on the current quality of the game. The company apologizes to customers looking forward to the game.
Princess Maker 2 Regeneration is an enhanced port of Princess Maker 2 Refine, which came out in 2004. Refine itself is a port, and the original Princess Maker 2 came out in 1993, thirty years ago. Some new changes in Regeneration include new illustrations and art. Regeneration uses Refine's graphics, but for Regeneration, Takami Akai (who worked on the original Princess Maker) redrew it to look closer to the original 90s aesthetic. There will also be a new anime opening, with Gainax as the studio.
Princess Maker 2 is a life and raising simulation game in which you play as the father of a girl, who came from a star. You have eight years to raise your daughter, starting from age 10 and ending at age 18. Things that you can do include sending your daughter to classes or work, as well as letting her go on adventures. There are multiple endings depending on your daughter's stats and such. Regeneration will also add a function to always display your daughter's parameters so that you can easily plan ahead.
Princess Maker 2 Regeneration will come out on the PS4, PS5, Windows PC, and Nintendo Switch on May 30, 2024.
