Palworld only cost 1% of Star Citizen's current funding to make

Aside from co-op shooter Helldivers 2, there hasn't been a hit nearly as massive — and unexpected — as Palworld in recent memory. The survival, building, and action game generated a ton of buzz when it first launched in Early Access a couple of months back, attracting controversy for its considerably less wholesome take on Pokemon and a huge player base on the strength of its open-world design. It turns out that achieving such a hit wasn't even all that expensive in game making terms, as evidenced by the fact that Palworld only cost 1% of Star Citizen's current funding amount to create.

How do you install and play a Minecraft snapshot? These snapshots are the very first iteration of Minecraft updates, and are a way for Mojang to test out bug fixes, technical changes, and new mechanics before officially rolling them out. Anyone with the Java edition of the creative game can try these features without any risk to your current world, so let's find out how to be the first to try the next big Minecraft update.

During Minecraft Live each year, the next big Minecraft update is revealed to the community. In past years, we've had the likes of the Caves and Cliffs update, The Wild Update, and the Trails and Tales update - each of them overhauling the base game with new Minecraft biomes, blocks, and mobs. Since these updates come with so much new content, they need to be tested out first, and that's where Minecraft snapshots come in. Use them to test out new experimental features before anyone else, and feedback to Mojang if you have any issues. It's a win-win situation.

Having spent close to 40 hours hanging out with Cloud and co. on my (entirely accidental) Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth holiday last week, I've been absolutely bowled over by the sheer size and scale of its big, open world map regions. I've only seen three of them so far, out of its total of eight, but it's immediately obvious just how much of a step-up these places are compared to the dusty plains and rolling hills of the most recent Final Fantasy game to hit PC, FF15. An obvious take, perhaps, given that FF15 first came out eight years ago in 2016, but I'm sure anyone (all right, mainly me) who's ever despaired at Noctis' seeming inability to climb even the smallest hillock in front of him, or how everyone always rides right into your backside while gunning about on a chocobo, will feel some mild, tangible relief at how elegantly Rebirth has solved both of these particular problems. Not only can everyone's chocobo navigate the world seamlessly without getting tripped up on either yourself or the nearest pebble, but Cloud can also jump, leap and haul himself up crags and rocks with one easy button press.

But there are aspects of Rebirth's approach to open world adventuring that also feel distinctly underwhelming at the same time. When you look past the splendour and rich reimagining of this once flat and detail-less world, it's ultimately quite a standardised take on what modern open world games have become in recent years. There are towers that reveal more points of interest on the map; there are special monster encounters to find; summon temples to discover; and lifestream springs to analyse that also reveal more and more about your immediate surroundings. There are proper sidequests with their own multi-part story objectives, too, which is arguably where Rebirth feels most alive, but most of the activities you'll be doing between critical story missions all generally fall into the same identical categories in each region. FF15 had some of these, too, of course, but it never felt quite so formulaic in how you went about them.

Combat is such a routine activity in video games that it often doesn't feel much like conflict at all. It's just something done to move the simulation along - a propulsive chore stripped of drama or significance or lasting emotion beyond a vague desire to see what lies beyond whatever it is you're trying to kill. In Death Of A Wish, combat has substance: it's a form of redemptive self-expression. The game's fights are a means of asserting and cherishing yourself in the face of a world that regards you as a deviant, a world whose poison you carry on the inside.

Port-o-remaster publishers Aspyr yesterday launched the Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection, bundling together the two 'What if Battlefield but Star Wars?' shooters originally released by Pandemic Studios and LucasArts in 2004 and 2005 (not to be confused with Dice and EA's uncolonic Star Wars Battlefront games from the mid-tensies). It's one of those rereleases that exists mostly for modern consoles, made a bit useless on PC by the fact that you can still buy and fully play the originals for half the price. What do you reach for when you're waiting in line at the supermarket, or waiting in a shop doorway for the rain to stop, or even while you're waiting for a game to finish downloading? I don't mean to assume, but let's face it, it's probably your phone, where some idle doomscrolling likely awaits you, or some other, time-wasting distraction that will help fill the dead air between one task and the next. Well, While Waiting is a game that delves into precisely this fundamental human question: what is the best thing to do while waiting for something else to happen? It's from the makers of the very good puzzle game Moncage, and its newly released Steam demo is a pure, fidgety brilliance.

final fantasy xvi dlc clive rosfield ben starr

Ben Starr, the voice actor for Final Fantasy XVI lead Clive Rosfield, shared a video with his final line recorded for the game. However, people don't need to worry about spoilers, because it doesn't involve any hints about the events of the upcoming The Rising Tide DLC

Here's the video Starr shared. While it is his last line in-character as Clive, it isn't actually a line of dialogue. Rather, it is instead a battle cry or shout.

https://twitter.com/The_Ben_Starr/status/1768663112188596463

There's only one bit of new content on the way for Final Fantasy XVI that will involve Clive Rosfield and Ben Starr, and that's the Leviathan story DLC. It currently has a Spring 2024 release window. We will get to learn more about it soon, however. Square Enix is bringing the game to PAX East 2024. There will be a panel on March 22, 2024, and it will go over what's next for the RPG. While Starr will not be at that event, Producer Naoki Yoshida, DLC Director Takeo Kujiraoka, and Localization Director Michael-Christopher Koji Fox will. That will also be streamed on Twitch and YouTube, for people unable to be there to learn about the add-on in person.

Final Fantasy XVI is available on the PlayStation 5. A demo is available. It will also come to the PC. When it does, there will also be a trial for it.

Review: Mars After Midnight Shows What a Playdate Game Can Do Lucas Pope Games

Now that Panic's Playdate is widely accessible and available, it feels like the new Lucas Pope game Mars After Midnight is here to show us what games on the system can do. The design, direction, and charming premise all come together to create what feels like a game that's less stressful than Papers, Please, but just as artistically appealing as Return of the Obra Dinn.

Things begin with an overview of Mars. There's the Earth colony, as well as a much larger Off-colony Settlement. After midnight, a standard Air Tight Shipping and Receiving area turns into the Off-colony Community Support Center. Each day, a certain event is held. So on day one, it's a Cyclops Anger Management meeting. You man the event and make sure people who should be there are.

Much like Lucas Pope's Papers, Please, Mars After Midnight is a Playdate game about paying attention to people and letting the right folks inside. Then, after they visit, you clean up and reorganize the refreshment table. Each night, a certain quota of people can visit. So on Cyclops Anger Management night, only beings with one eye and a sad expression can get into the event. Anyone who meets the criteria gets in, and you get credits for if they feel refreshed after possibly sampling the food and feel the meeting helped.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xRuG9Ooe9hM&ab_channel=Panic

Your goal is to eventually help all Martians with your meetings. After the Cyclops Anger Management tutorial session, you choose a session topic, the level of promotion, and the refreshments. You need to promote in the right areas to help affected people. Also, refreshments can encourage people to tip more, which means you can reach more people with promotional posters. This adds a management simulation element to the game.

Especially since the game builds on who you can help. For example, you can't run the Gnat Knife Handling meeting unless you pay for a five dollar accessory for it. This is a one-time usage fee, so if you rerun that session, you need to pay that $5 Some meetings require cartridges you don't own yet, so you need to hold other meetings first, earn money from them, then buy those cartridges if the vendor comes around during a shift. You can also buy other items, if you get enough funds, like recipes for different refreshments or a translator so you can know what the Martians are saying.

The nature of this means that Mars After Midnight can feel a bit tedious. However, I believe much of the reason why I felt this way is because I wasn't playing the way Pope intended. All Playdate titles are structured in a such a way that you're probably only supposed to play for 15 minutes or so at a time. For the sake of the review, I was playing for a few hours straight, going through various sessions. I imagine playing it as intended, in shorter bursts and perhaps at a rate of one session per day, would be fantastic.

Especially since Mars After Midnight basically blends elements of Lucas Pope games like of Papers, Please with the artistry of Return of the Obra Dinn in a wonderful way. This is a gorgeous game that does so much with its 1-bit design limitations. It's an artistic marvel, just like Return of the Obra Dinn, with personable monster designs, fantastic use of audio and sound effects, and such a great job of creating a Mars colony that feels real and full with so little. Likewise, I love how it has this Papers, Please element, only without the same level of stress that makes me worry about if I'm doing the right thing and going to survive. It's the epitome of charming.

Most importantly, after playing an array of other Playdate games, I feel like Mars After Midnight is the perfect example of what a game for the system should be. It can be played in short bursts or for an extended period lasting an hour or two. It makes use of the crank in an organic way that suits the situations, be it opening the flap to see who's outside or trigger a broom to clear a table. The audio makes good use of the small speaker. The artistic direction makes the 1-bit restriction feel optimized. The only time I didn't enjoy it is when I'd need to position my Martian's tentacles just so to press the A and B buttons to jam a cartridge for a session into the machine.

Honestly, the only downside to Mars After Midnight for me is the knowledge that it won't reach as many people as past Lucas Pope games due to the fact that this is likely going to be referenced as the signature Playdate game of 2024. This is such a pleasant and entertaining game that makes the most of the platform's unique features. I love what it does and feel it is probably the signature game for the system now that it is here.

Mars After Midnight is available for the Playdate.

Hololive Fans Swarming Akihabara Mister Donut Because of FUWAMOCO

As a result of Hololive Super Expo 2024 and the Hololive 5th Fes concert, many Vtubers and people are in the Tokyo area as a result of the Makuhari Messe event. It also turns out that the Akihabara Mister Donut became a hotspot for Hololive fans due to FUWAMOCO, Advent Vtubers Fuwawa and Mococo, stopping there for Pon de Rings.

Immediately after arriving in Japan on March 6, 2024, Fuwawa and Mococo took to the FUWAMOCO social media account to share they went to Mister Donut. Here's that first tweet, which also shared a picture of the Pon de Rings and some drinks.

As a result, people have been sharing photos on social media of the increased traffic, particularly at the Akihabara location, because of FUWAMOCO fans stopping by. Here are some of the social media posts showing the increased traffic by "Ruffians" stopping by because Fuwawa and Mococo have.

FFXIV Cross Region Server Test

Square Enix revealed details for the upcoming test of the Cross-Region Data Center Travel system for FFXIV. The test is set to take place starting March 21, 2024, and it will last until the launch of update 7.0 and the Dawntrail expansion in Summer 2024.

Currently, players are able to travel to different servers within the same region-locked data center (North America, Europe, etc.), but the upcoming test will allow players to temporarily play on servers in other regions. Specifically, it will allow players from the Japanese, North American, and European data centers to travel to servers in the Oceania data center, though Oceanian players will not be able to travel the other way.

As with any MMO expansion launch, Square Enix is expecting heavy traffic when Dawntrail drops later in 2024. So the company is using this cross-region test period to try out a way to spread the load from congested servers to less populated ones.

Microsoft also recently unveiled an FFXIV themed Xbox Series X, sculpted to look like the aetheryte crystals found in game. Meanwhile, Square Enix has started selling items from previous years' Hatching-tide and Little Ladies' Day celebrations on the FFXIV online store.

The Final Fantasy XIV Cross-Region will begin on Sunday March 14, 2024, and last until the launch of update 7.0 and the Dawntrail expansion in Summer, 2024. FFXIV is immediately available for PC, PS4, and PS5, with the Xbox Series X version set to arrive on March 21, 2024.

First Palworld Raid Will Involve the Pal Bellanoir

PocketPair announced its first Palworld raid is on the way with a teaser trailer showing a Pal named Bellanoir. The developer also noted it will be hiring an artist to draw Palworld manga and comics on the English and Japanese social media accounts.

First, here's the initial look at Bellanoir before the Pal appears in a Palworld raid. She is a humanoid sort of character that bears a resemblance to the Pokemon Gardevoir.

https://twitter.com/Palworld_EN/status/1768547684766433426

As for the Palworld comic and manga artist, people are encouraged to apply by sharing a sample via social media either by DMing or replying to the official "ad." The company also showed examples of the kinds of comics it would like to release for the game.

https://twitter.com/Palworld_EN/status/1768201601133764789

While there haven't been major content updates to the game since launch, we have seen patches and promotional outreach. PocketPair also promised to address cheating in the title. Many of the recent updates have gone over fixes to improve the overall experience. However, the company's roadmaps and plans include things like additional quality of life features, anti-cheat endeavors, and also additional Pals for players to get to catch.

Palworld is available in early access for the Xbox Series X and PC.

Pokemon Pikachu flower arrangements for Mother's Day 2024 in Japan

Pokemon Center Online Japan has opened pre-orders for new flower arrangements inspired by the Pokemon series mascot Pikachu. People who place orders can expect the finished products to arrive around the time Japan celebrates Mother's Day with the US and many other countries on Sunday, May 12, 2024.

The flower arrangements will be available in two types. The regular arrangement will cost 7,260 yen (~$49), and it will require the owner to water the flowers regularly to maintain their condition for around three days. There will be also a preserved flower arrangement that will cost more at 9,900 yen (~$66.50), but it will not require any maintenance and the owner will be able to display it for up to around a whole year depending on the location. Both products will come with a message card that also features Pichu in addition to Pikachu.

While Pokemon Center Online Japan generally only ships its products inside the country, these flower arrangements will be available in an even more limited amount of regions. Due to these products' nature, the company cannot ship them to remote islands in Japan, such as Tsushima Island and the entire Okinawa Prefecture.

New Pokemon-themed merchandise has often appeared ahead of numerous commemoration days. Prior examples that preceded the 2024 Mother's Day included Valentine's Day and Easter.

The pre-order window for the Mother's Day 2024 Pikachu flower arrangements will close on April 15, 2024. Pokemon Center Online Japan will deliver the finished products around May 9-12, 2024.

Anycolor Stock Plummets After March 2024 Nijisanji Financial Results

On March 14, 2024, Anycolor released its Financial Results of FY2024 4 Q3 that went over its various Nijisanji Vtuber branches. Now at market close on March 15, 2024, Yahoo Finance noted the stock price went from 3,140 yen (~$21) on March 14, 2024, to 2,451 yen (~16) on March 15, 2024.

Here's a screenshot showing the Anycolor stock drop between March 14-15, 2024, following insight into Nijisanji and the company's financials. As people on the subreddits for Vtubers and Nijisanji pointed out, there is a trading curb in effect that kept the price from going lower.

As a reminder, following the termination of Selen Tatsuki, a Nijisanji English Vtuber, Anycolor made a statement on its official site that has since been removed. As part of it, it noted that "the impact of this decision [to terminate Selen Tatsuki] on our financial results will be negligible."

The Financial Results of FY2024 4 Q3 for Anycolor featured a number of statements about the company, its business, and Nijisanji Vtuber retention. For example, it stated it had a 97% retention rate for its performers. As a reminder, in 2023 multiple livers who were formerly part of Nijisanji ID graduated, and recent EN branch graduations and terminations over the past year included Zaion LanZa, Nina Kosaka, Mysta Rias, Selen Tatsuki, Pomu Rainpuff, and Kyo Kaneko.

Nijisanji's next major development is the debut of a new group for the Japanese branch called 3SKM. They will begin appearing on March 15, 2024.

Final Fantasy XIV FFXIV Decorative Xbox Looks Like Aetheryte

Microsoft announced a Final Fantasy XIV contest that gives people a custom-designed FFXIV Aetheryte Xbox Series X. This would be accompanied by a copy of the MMORPG and a year of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

Here are screenshots of the official language shown in the official rules taken by Siliconera. The new changes could now mean that the Final Fantasy XIV contest Microsoft is running does include a functional custom FFXIV Xbox Series X.

The official social media post offered an idea of the prizes and guidelines. People would get the custom-designed console, a copy of the FFXIV Complete Collector's Edition, and 12 months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. To enter, someone must follow Xbox on Twitter, Xbox Canada, or Xbox Mexico, follow FFXIV on Twitter, and retweet the following contest post. This must be done by March 28, 2024. On April 2, 2024, the winner will be notified. Only one grand prize will be given out.

https://twitter.com/Xbox/status/1768366577161003374

This is all to celebrate the March 21, 2024 launch of the MMORPG on the Xbox Series X. It is in open beta at the moment.

Final Fantasy XIV is available on the PS4, PS5, and PC, with the Xbox Series X version launching on March 21, 2024. Dawntrail will arrive in Summer 2024, with more news on that coming at PAX East 2024.
