Fallout meets No Man's Sky in this sci-fi survival game

There's something incredibly satisfying about playing a survival crafting game that the setting can change dramatically without losing any of what makes the underlying loop so compelling. It's no wonder, then, that so many studios have set out to try their hand at it. A new indie studio called Goose Byte is working on one called The Signal, and it's about to head into some early pre-alpha testing - and you can get involved.

How to play Minecraft snapshots – snapshot 24w14a

How do you install and play a Minecraft snapshot? These snapshots are the very first iteration of Minecraft updates, and are a way for Mojang to test out bug fixes, technical changes, and new mechanics before officially rolling them out. Anyone with the Java edition of the creative game can try these features without any risk to your current world, so let's find out how to be the first to try the next big Minecraft update.

During Minecraft Live each year, the next big Minecraft update is revealed to the community. In past years, we've had the likes of the Caves and Cliffs update, The Wild Update, and the Trails and Tales update - each of them overhauling the base game with new Minecraft biomes, blocks, and mobs. Since these updates come with so much new content, they need to be tested out first, and that's where Minecraft snapshots come in. Use them to test out new experimental features before anyone else, and feedback to Mojang if you have any issues. It's a win-win situation.

     Best clicker games 2024

What are the best clicker and idle games? Also known as 'incremental' or 'idle' games, the name betrays certain expectations: click your mouse, get a tiny reward, and repeat until you can make the process more efficient and lucrative. Once relegated to the dark corners of Itch.io and Kongregate, the genre has grown in popularity in recent years, and marketplaces like Steam are bursting at the seams with new idle, clicker, and incremental games for you to try.

Luckily, you have PCGamesN to help you find the best clicker games worth playing. The very best ones manage to distill high-complexity concepts into a series of single clicks and automation, and while they might not be among the best PC games for their depth or storylines, they're certainly among the most relaxing games to play for a calming few hours or more. They're also often free, so if you're looking for a low-budget alternative to the best free PC games, you may find an idle game that suits your tastes.

What are Pawn Specializations in Dragon's Dogma 2? Pawn Specializations are, first and foremost, a way to give your Pawn more utility outside of combat, though some specializations do prove useful while battling a swarm of goblins.      Save over $240 on Steam Deck games in this month's Humble Choice

If you've just purchased a Steam Deck, or have owned one since launch, it can be overwhelming trying to find great games to play on the go. Looking for a Genshin Impact tier list? There are currently 82 Genshin Impact characters available, providing you with a wide variety of candidates to construct your dream team. But with so many weapons, elementals, talents, ascension bonuses, and constellation upgrades, finding your favorites can be challenging.

Don't let the placement of the characters on our Genshin Impact tier list deter you from pulling on the next character banner. While base stats and elemental abilities are important, the value of a character also depends on personal playstyle, available weapons and artifacts, and team composition. It doesn't matter if your favorite Genshin Impact character is on one of the lower tiers; you can still make it work with our recommended Genshin Impact builds. Being on a lower tier in the free PC game means that there are better alternatives, or the character needs a very specific build or team to shine. Earlier today Tom Betts - founder of Nullpointer and former lead programmer at The Signal From Tolva developers Big Robot - emailed me about his new game The Horror At Highrook. In the space of a single, rollercoaster paragraph, Betts earned my curiosity by describing himself as a fellow Soul Reaver enthusiast, lost it again by criticising Soul Reaver's camera - such insolence! - and earned it swiftly back by mentioning that he's from Yorkshire. Then, he upgraded my curiosity into attention by describing The Horror At Highrook as a "clockwork narrative" horror experience that takes inspiration from Poe, Stoker and Lovecraft on the one hand, and from boardgames, wiki-hunting and escape rooms on the other.

This is a heady brew indeed. Also, there appears to be a cat in the game called Mr Tubbs, described as a "portly grey barrel of fur". I entertain suspicions of Mr Tubbs. What fell secrets lurk behind his perfectly groomed exterior? Anyway, here's the trailer.

It's also, I'll admit, overdue some consideration on RPS. Between the lack of cheap graphics cards among the desktop RTX 40 series, the year-and-a-bit that DLSS 3 has had to grow its compatible games library, and the Steam Deck reminding everyone that portable, low-end gaming can still be pleasurable, now seems like the RTX 4050's time to shine. Do you remember the noughties fan warz over which game had the best terrain destruction physics? The victors of that particular forum skirmish were probably DICE's Battlefield games, with their woozy Frostbitten cinematography and dependable multiplayer tactic of having a whole team focus fire on a single capture point, gradually reducing it to stumps of foundation. But leftier souls may have preferred Volition's (RIP) Red Faction series, the third of which, Red Faction: Guerrilla, featured a granular demolition engine that you bash apart whole bases with a sledgehammer.

Well, Guerrilla's lead tech designer Luke Schneider is still in the architecture-ruining business: his and Radiangames's latest, the hopefully self-explanatory Instruments Of Destruction, leaves Steam early access on May 10th, 2024. Here's the 1.0 trailer.

It's a fond hope, a fool's hope, but perhaps 2024 will be remembered not as the year of Yet More Layoffs, but the year of Unexpected Hits. Surprise record-setters like Palworld, which I don't especially like, Helldivers 2, which I rather enjoy, and now Content Warning, which I'm still figuring out. If you missed it, the co-op horror game released on Monday with a temporary free promotion, and racked up a 200,000-player Steam concurrency last night. Published by Totally Accurate Battle Simulator outfit Landfall, it's sort of like Lethal Company in being about venturing into horrible places as a wibbly-wobbly defenceless explorer, but rather than gathering scrap for resale, you're filming yourself and the monsters in a bid to publish a viral "SpookTube" video, with tuber celebrity translating into cash for new equipment.

Each video is edited together automatically from your footage and accompanying voicechat, once you return from each trip to the Old World, and you can watch it all on an in-game monitor with a mocked-up chat feed and viewcount. It's a pungent, potted commentary on the machinations of Youtube celebrity, with heady notes of "cautionary tale about algorithmic content generation" and "cautionary tale about people endangering or hurting themselves being a dependable source of views". Urgh, I can feel an op-ed coming on. In the meantime, here's how the developers - a team of only five - are updating Content Warning following its launch success.

The Elder Scrolls Online is the elephant in the room where discussions of The Elder Scrolls 6 are concerned, though calling it an elephant is obviously missing the opportunity for a banger lore joke – "dragon", perhaps, or even "Numidium"? Launched back in 2014 after seven years in development, ESO's hybrid of deceptively single-player-ish Elder Scrolls presentation with MMO fixtures attracted a lukewarm response, initially. "At its best The Elder Scrolls Online looks like a faithful addition to the lore," intoned Brendy in our own launch impressions. "At its worst it is a derivative and uninventive anachronism."

ZeniMax Online have made big strides with the game over the years, however - binning off monthly subscriptions and introducing a "level-free" format in the One Tamriel update in 2016. ESO has also swelled and sprouted steadily as a work of geography and history, with major chapters introducing areas hitherto only mentioned in dusty collectible tomes, or creatively reintroducing locations from the single player series – the forthcoming Gold Road expansion, out in June 2024, takes us to the West Weald in Cyrodiil, an area last seen in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion.

Moonstone Island Fishbo Fishbolution Spirits Teased

On April Fools' Day 2024, Moonstone Island developers Studio Supersoft joked that there would be Fishbo inspired "Fishbolutions" for other Spirits in the game. Now, due to the response to the joke, it looks like they are being implemented into the game.

First, here's the actual April Fools' Day joke. The developer said if the trailer got 1,000 likes, it would actually make it happen.

https://twitter.com/Moonstone_game/status/1774818352533323833

On April 2, 2024, the social media account updated with an "uh oh" message, suggesting it would happen.

https://twitter.com/Moonstone_game/status/1775153154503406078

Now on April 3, 2024, it seems progress is being made on creating Fishbolution Spirits for Moonstone Island. So far, only Flambit and Wolfbane versions seem to be done. It is unknown how many Spirits could get this treatment and when we could end up seeing them implemented into the game via a patch.

https://twitter.com/Moonstone_game/status/1775531702389236127

Fishbo has become one of the mascots for Moonstone Island. So much so that a plush was actually made. On Makeship, a campaign started in October 2023 and resulted in stuffed versions of the characters shipping out in 2024. That toy ended up selling out.

Moonstone Island is available on PCs, and it will also eventually come to the Nintendo Switch in Spring 2024.

FFVII Ever Crisis Cait Sith Trailer Calls to Mind the Original Game

Square Enix and Applibot are continuing its rollout of introductory materials for Cait Sith in Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis, and the latest trailer draws inspiration from the original FFVII. It shows how he meets and forces his way into the party.

The video begins with the line, "I'm comin' with you, no matter what you say!" This is a reference to the way the character joins in the original Final Fantasy VII. The joining is handled a bit differently in the FFVII Rebirth remake. After that, we see Cloud, Tifa, Aerith, Yuffie, and Red XIII meet Cait Sith in the Gold Saucer arcade. After establishing his role as a fortune-telling machine, we see him and the party running from Dio at the amusement park. In the segment after that, we get to watch the Dice Limit Break in action during a fight in the Corel Prison area.

Here's the full FFVII Ever Crisis Cait Sith trailer.

https://twitter.com/FFVII_EC_EN/status/1775402856440270958

Initially, Square Enix's April Fools' Day joke for 2024 was that Reeve Tuesti would be playable in Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis. However, shortly after the company confirmed it would be Cait Sith who would join the roster on April 3, 2024 worldwide and April 4, 2024 in Japan. It showed off how he'd look in-game and confirmed there will be a weapon banner with equipment for both him and Tifa.

Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis is available for the PC and mobile devices.

seiko mickey mouse clock header

Seiko will release a clock of Mickey Mouse from July 6, 2024. It will be a very limited release, with only ten units available, and it'll cost 11 million JPY ($72,460). [Thanks, Famitsu!]

You can check out the trailer for this clock here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ly2CsLCxjxM&

This is a mechanical clock that weighs over 15 kilograms. It works by having a marble travel along the back of the device, with its weight moving the hands of the clock. In terms of what you'll actually be seeing, the clock's hands are Mickey Mouse's arms so it looks like he's pointing the time out to you. Classic Disney characters like Minnie, Donald, and Goofy appear on the face as silhouettes as well. Finally, "It all begins with dreams," which is a quote from Walt Disney, is at the base of the clock.

You can check out the clock on Seiko's website. Since it's not out yet, no one can order or pre-order it. Due to the fact that it's a decor clock, Seiko has a contact form for you to make an appointment. This will allow you the opportunity to see the item in person, just in case it's not what you expected from the pictures or video.

The Seiko Mickey Mouse clock will come out on July 6, 2024. Other Seiko collaboration products include watches of Cinnamoroll and Chainsaw Man.

Unicorn Overlord sequel will be included in Atlus TGS 2023 Media Briefing Which 2023 best Game Announcement Are You Most Thankful For

Atlus released a Unicorn Overlord survey targeting people in Asia that asked about a sequel. Specifically, it asked if the people participating in the poll would buy a follow-up to the strategy game.

Much of the survey is fairly typical. It asks for demographic information to start. Even though this is a questionnaire designed for people living in countries in Asia, the second page of questions does allow someone to say they are from a "non-Asian region." Many of the questions after that ask if people played other Atlus games or similar strategy titles like Triangle Strategy or Valkyria Chronicles. It also asks about platforms people play on, how they get their news about games.

It's near the very end of the Unicorn Overlord survey that the question about a possible sequel comes up. After someone offers feedback on the quality of the game, a question asks, "Do you plan on purchasing any sequels to 'Unicorn Overlord'if they were to be made?" Someone can then choose from responses that range from "very likely" to "very unlikely."

Here's a screenshot of the question in the survey.

So far, Unicorn Overlord seems to be a success for Vanillaware and Atlus. On April 1, 2024, the companies announced it passed 500,000 copies sold worldwide.

The Square Enix cafe will hold a Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series collaboration event. More information will come out in the future.

This news came from the official Square Enix cafe website. While we do not know when the event will take place, it seems that it will be in the summer. According to the description on the website, the cafe predicts that it will be "yet another hot summer."

Aside from updated graphics from the original, these games have new features such as being able to switch between two soundtracks. Square Enix also fixed a lot of existing bugs in these versions.

DLSite Credit Card

Doujin and fan-works seller DLSite announced that it is suspending the use of Visa and Mastercard credit cards on its service. While described as a temporary suspension, no date was given for when it might be lifted.

Parent company EISYS announced the suspension via its website, but did not go into detail on why those particular cards were suspended or when it would be lifted. The company apologized to its customers for the inconvenience, and suggested using alternative cards like JCB and American Express in the meantime.

DLSite, originally called Soft Island, was founded back in 1996 as a shop focusing on selling doujin and other fanworks. The site has since expanded and now offers games, ASMR, and other software in addition to just doujinshi and manga.

You can read the full statement from EISYS below.

Thank you very much for your patronage of our services.

We regret to inform you that, as of 18:00 (JST) April 3rd, 2024, use of Visa and Mastercard will be temporarily suspended.

While this suspension is in place, please use an alternative transaction method or a different supported credit card brand, such as JCB or American Express.

We ask for your understanding of the circumstances and apologize for any inconvenience this may be.

Back in May, 2023, DLSite also announced it would stop selling works made with AI in some genres, though the site now appears to list such works under their own category. Then, in October of that year, the site also announced it would begin supporting several new languages including Thai and Bahasa Indonesia, for which it was looking to hire translators.

DLSite has temporarily suspended the use of Visa and Mastercard Credit cards until further notice.

Those who play the demo on the Nintendo Switch will get to play as Ameya. Her story focuses on her double life as a normal student and a witch-in-training. However, she loses her magic right before her witch-in-training graduation exam, forcing her to go on an adventure to get it back.

hololive april fool's

It looks like April Fools' Day went on for another few days, as several Hololive VTubers reported that they were unable to change their usernames on social media site X, formerly known as Twitter, back to what they originally were. They'd changed their usernames to funny ones for the holiday. [Thanks, Game Watch!]

As of the time of writing, some of these Hololive usernames are still the same as they were on April Fools' Day. Their handles (the name that follows the @ mark) are the same, so people should still be able to find them on Twitter (X). These are translations of the new usernames for the Hololive VTubers:

  • Minato Aqua: Atishigani (Real)
  • Natsuiro Matsuri: Natsuiro Matsuri (5) - the username is all in hiragana, as a joke that she is a five-year-old who can't write her own name in kanji yet
  • Roboco: Hageeboo Hololive Generation 0
  • Sakura Miko: Mikodanyee
  • Shirakami Fubuki: White Burinyan ♡ My Oshi-P's the Best

The reason for this is because these are all verified accounts on Twitter. After Musk's takeover of Twitter, in which he changed the verification system, Twitter will have to check a user's account again if they make changes to their profiles. It's estimated that the Hololive livers will need to live with the above names for about a week. However, when this happened to Rosemi Lovelock and her Katsuhiro Harada joke and picture, it was restored after about a day.

suika game android

The Android version of Suika Game, also known as the Watermelon Game, will come out in mid-April 2024. Pre-registration is now open on Google Play. [Thanks, Famitsu!]

As a reminder, searching up Suika Game or Watermelon Game in Google Play will result in a person seeing a lot of clones. If you want the Aladdin X Inc version, someone should use the direct link or visit from the company's Twitter (X) account. Once you pre-register for the game, Google should inform you as to when you can download it onto your device.

While Suika Game came out in December 2021 for the Nintendo Switch—then itself using a concept from January 2021's Merge Big Watermelon—it flew under the radar. It became popular in 2023 after major VTubers and streamers popularized it on YouTube and other similar platforms. Paid DLC and an iOS version for the game appeared in early 2024. The concept of the game focuses on dropping fruits that would merge into larger ones. Because the fruits could roll around in various ways, it added an extra layer of strategy as to how you would approach the game.

Suika Game is readily available on the Nintendo Switch and iOS devices. The Android version of Suika Game will come out in mid-April 2024.

nintendo live tokyo 2024 man arrested murder threats

Police in Kyoto arrested the man who sent murder threats to Nintendo back in late 2023. The culprit is a worker for the local government in the Ibaraki Prefecture. [Thanks, 4Gamer!]

For reference, Nintendo was supposed to hold several large-scale events in December 2023. These events included the Nintendo Live 2024 Tokyo, as well as the Splatoon Koushien 2023. As well, Nintendo had to stream its live concert from the Nintendo Live 2024 Tokyo to an empty audience at a later date. This was all because the arrested man in question sent in messages, threatening to murder the staff and guests.

The police have not put out a statement yet in regards to the man's motives. At the current time, we only know that he is a man in his twenties. According to the investigation, he used the contact form on the Nintendo homepage to send multiple threatening messages. The police have also arrested him due to obstruction of business. As mentioned above, as a result of the man's threats, Nintendo had to cancel plenty of major events.

Originally, the Nintendo Live 2024 Tokyo event would have taken place in early January 2024, whereas the Splatoon Koushien 2023 would have been earlier in December 2023. Of particular note is the Splatoon Koushien 2023 cancellation. The winner of the tournament would have become the Japanese representative for the Splatoon 3 World Championship 2024. As a result, since there was no Japanese representative who won in December 2023, the World Championship—as well as the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe online challenge finals and 2024 World Championship—has been postponed as well.

More information on the culprit, as well as his sentencing, will come out in the near future.

FFXIV Ark Mount Collector's Edition FFIX

Players who pre-order and purchase the $59.99 Collector's Edition of FFXIV Dawntrail get a few different bonuses as part of their collection. One of the major bonuses, and perhaps the most important one, is the FFXIV Ark Mount. I would argue this bonus alone makes the entire collection worth it.

The Collector's Edition costs about $20 more than the fifth expansion for the long-running MMORPG. I purchased the Collector's Edition for the last few expansions, because the mounts that come with them are often among the best in the entire game. Fortunately, Square Enix is not changing that status quo with Dawntrail. However, this might be the most lucrative Collector's Edition mount yet.

In the past, we got mounts like the Syldra in Stormblood and the Grani in Shadowbringers. Basically all of these special items look utterly fantastic, with the case of Endwalker's Arion being another fantastic example. However, while they look great, they don't usually have much to offer in terms of lore. In fact, I would say that these Collector's Edition mounts could connect more to the expansions they are tied to or at least offer something different.

That is, fortunately, the case with the new Ark Mount in FFXIV Dawntrail. Veteran Final Fantasy fans will recognize this mount as an exact replica of the Ark eidolon in Final Fantasy IX. It is the ultimate summon in that game. It was known for being most powerful and offering some incredible visuals. Its defining features come from its airship style, which can transform into a mecha form.

This Collector's Edition mount possesses those same qualities. It appears as a basic airship while players fly around in it, but you can also transform it into its mech form as well. This alone makes the Collector's Edition worth buying to me, as the other mounts in the past didn't have this level of transformation and flexibility. This almost feels like two different mounts in one.

In addition, it fulfills my desire to enjoy some much-needed lore. Unlike the other expansions' offerings, it ties directly into a past game, complete with all of the pure nostalgia that comes with that. I feel it is by far the most desirable mount out of the various Collector's Editions we've had up until this point. Not to mention, this mount presumably has some ties to future FFXIV content or even a possible FFIX remake.

I know that I can't wait for either of those to happen, so getting the FFXIV Ark mount in the meantime will make the wait worth it. There are two ways to get the Ark mount. The first is to pre-order the $59.99 Collector's Edition of Dawntrail before launch. However, if you don't get it before launch, not all hope is lost. There will be a Digital Collector's Edition upgrade after the fact available anytime on the Mogstation. I should note that there are some pre-order items available immediately. However, this mount won't become available until the full expansion release on July 2, 2024.

Final Fantasy XIV is available right now for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The fifth expansion, Dawntrail, will release on July 2, 2024.
