There's also fear of the unknown, this idea that something is happening that you can't understand or control, and that it's preparing to destroy you in a way you can't defend. There are moments of Resident Evil, Amnesia, and the wonderfully postmodern Signalis in here, but if I'm trying to simplify or singularise what makes Conscript the best survival horror game of 2024, it's the way it preys upon a more unusual, more intricate, and more excruciating type of fear. There are sprawling underground ecosystems to discover, yes, weird plants to harvest, fractious clumps of tentacles to appraise, avoid or slaughter. But all of these things are contemptible details to be swept up and bagged and thrown in the dumpster. |

Cover announced that the new song from Hololive Vtuber Houshou Marine, called "Dead Ma'am's Chest," was written by Toby Fox and Camellia. The Undertale creator worked on the music, while Camellia handled the arrangement and lyrics. The track will also appear on her first album called Ahoy!! You're All Pirates, which will launch on October 16, 2024 in Japan.
The music video for the Houshou Marine Toby Fox song is also live, with Wit Studio handling the animation for "Dead Ma'am's Chest." That studio also worked on Spy x Family, Suicide Squad Isekai, and some Pokemon anime adaptations. If someone turns on closed captions, an official English translation for the lyrics is available. A karaoke option is also present.
In honor of her 2024 birthday celebration on July 30, 2024, Houshou Marine also performed a 3D live. During it, she performed alongside fellow Hololive Vtubers like Kobo Kanaeru, Shiranui Flare, Shirogane Noel, and Usada Pekora. HIMEHINA, Pmaru-sama, and Reol also appeared.
As for that first Houshou Marine album, the Ahoy!! You're All Pirates limited edition and 10 of its 14 songs were revealed. The four unrevealed ones seem to be the four entirely new songs. The $81 limited edition includes the CD and Blu-ray, a poster lyric card, a PR card for the Hololive Official Card Game, and an acrylic stand of the Vtuber based on the cover art for the album.
Here are the confirmed tracks for the first Houshou Marine album so far. Alongside the Toby Fox song, there are many collab tracks with other Hololive Vtubers.

The new B-Komachi idols from Oshi no Ko will appear again in The Idolmaster: Shiny Colors in a new crossover. Bandai Namco revealed in a new live stream that it will launch a collaboration event for a limited time throughout August 2024.
The company had added the Hololive Vtuber Hoshimachi Suisei crossover to The Idolmaster: Cinderella Girls - Starlight Stage in March 2024. However, the collaboration between Shiny Colors and Oshi no Ko had run even earlier in July 2023. This will be the second time the company will feature the external franchise in the browser game.
The first event in 2023 featured Ruby, Kana, and MEMcho as produce-able idols. A revival gacha banner that launches on August 3, 2024, will give players another chance to obtain these characters.
Bandai Namco will also add more new character cards in the following weeks. The new B-Komachi idols will have new gacha cards that feature different costumes. It will also add a new support card featuring a younger Ruby with Ai looking after her. In addition, there will be a new crossover scenario that will reward a support card starring Akane upon completing its missions.
The company has also uploaded a new commercial trailer that shows MEMcho giving a quick rundown of the new crossover content:
As a reminder, this crossover content will not be available in Song For Prism, the mobile and PC app game featuring 3D character models. Bandai Namco will only stage the collaboration in the original Shiny Colors game which has Live2D characters on its own Enza platform. Players can directly access the game from mobile and PC browsers without having to install a dedicated app, although the latter is also available to download.
The new Oshi no Ko crossover content will be available in the Enza browser game The Idolmaster: Shiny Colors for a limited time from August 3 until 30, 2024.

The latest Metaphor: ReFantazio showcase introduced several new characters that will try their luck in the tournament for the throne of Euchronia, as well as various other characters that will support the different parties involved in the political race. They are Batlin, Forden, Louis, Gideaux, Glodell, Milo, Loveless, Rudolf, Lina, Goddard, Roger, Jin, Julian, and Edeni.
Batlin is a Sanctist crier that takes care of delivering information about the tournament to the population. Forden is the supreme authority of Sanctism, the state religion of the Kingdom of Euchronia, and one of the candidates for the throne leading the moderate political faction. Louis is a is an army officer who believes in true meritocracy. Gideaux is a warrior monk and Captain of the Monk Army, as well as Forden's bodyguard. While Gideaux is a candidate in the race he doesn't have the intention of becoming king. Instead, he participates in order to stop the protagonist as he is an Elda, whom Gideaux despises.
Glodell is known as the Black Hound and he's an ambitious subordinate of Louis. Milo Maurizio of the Ishkia tribe is an eccentric candidate who believes that those of beauty will take the titles of those deemed hideous. Loveless is a hedonistic commoner and the third son of a tavern owner who hasn't given much thought to how to rule a kingdom. Rudolf is another militaristic candidate who intends to establish a Roussainte tribe military dictatorship after acquiring the throne. Lina belongs to the Eugief tribe and is the daughter of the owners of the Kayden Workshop. She is participating in the race to promote her family's gauntlet runner business.
Goddard of the Rohag tribe represents the elderly citizens of the United Kingom of Euchronia and he is a demolitionist. Roger of a self-righteous young Clemar that believes in a country with no taxes, laws, nor religion. Jin from the Nidia tribe is a populist candidate that changes his tune everwhere he goes in order to win as many people as possible. Julian is an Ishkian member whose policies focus on animal rights, even among the monsters that threaten the population. Edeni of the Mustari tribe is a pagan advocate and the representative of religious freedom in the race.

Additionally, Atlus introduced several Followers that will aid the protagonist and the party in his journey and will unlock several Archetypes. These are Brigitta, who awakens the Merchant, Maria offers the Healer Archetype, Bardon gives access to Commander, Alonzo awakens the Faker Archetype, and Catherina unlocks the Brawler.
The next Metaphor: ReFantazio video will introduce the Journey aspect and mechanics of the game, and the previous video offered a look at the Prince's Curse.
Metaphor: ReFantazio will come out for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC on October 11, 2024.

Fujimi Dragonbook announced that it will release a new tabletop RPG inspired by Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon in the Spring of 2025. People will be able to experience the mech-based action video game in an interactive physical tabletop game format.
The Kadokawa subsidiary also revealed that Group SNE is working on the new tabletop RPG book. As a side note, the same group had previously worked on TRPGs based on other FromSoftware games, such as Dark Souls and Elden Ring. The latter's TRPG book came out in June 2023. As of July 2024, the Japanese book is still available to order digitally (via Kindle) and physically worldwide on Amazon Japan.

This title will also be the first tabletop RPG from Group SNE with a futuristic mech science fiction setting. Besides Dark Souls and Elden Ring, the group had also released numerous original TRPG books, most of which featured fantasy themes. The closest title the group had worked on is the 2009 entry Dark Blaze, which takes place in a polluted post-apocalyptic world and has players set up Sherwood tanks to explore the world and its dungeons.
The Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon tabletop RPG will be available in Japan in the Spring season of 2025.

A demo for the upcoming action RPG Visions of Mana is now available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, as well as Steam and the Windows Store on PC. Playing through the trial will unlock three additional weapons in the final version of the game.
These weapons are the Gladius, Falx, and Horn Lance, and they will be available to equip in the final version as players unlock new classes to play. The demo will let you play a small section of the game as protagonist Val, who will be accompanied by party members Careena and Morley.
Square Enix also released a new demo trailer for the game showcasing the story and some gameplay. You can check out the new trailer here:
Square Enix recently released a new gameplay trailer for Visions of Mana introducing the eight Elemental Vessels. These are tied to the Spirits, a staple of the Mana series. The new trailer also showcases some of the classes that the playable characters will have access to in the final version of the game.
Visions of Mana will come to the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC on August 29, 2024 and a demo is out now. However, the game will not be available as part of the Xbox Game Pass service.

The 7.05 patch notes for FFXIV are live, with many of the new job changes affecting the Viper, Samurai, Black Mage, Thaumaturge, and Paladin. In total, 16 jobs ended having actions and traits changed, with many of those adjusting and increasing abilities' potency.
The longest list of patch 7.05 FFXIV job changes belongs to the Viper. Over 35 actions and traits were adjusted in the latest update. Here's the full list from the patch notes:
The Samurai in FFXIV also experienced a number of potency-related changes in the latest patch.
Here are all of the Paladin job changes in FFXIV 7.05, which are also rather extensive.
Many of the Black Mage and Thaumaturge FFXIV changes are shared among their common actions and traits.
Here's what is new for the Dark Knight in FFXIV.
There are multiple potency changes for the FFXIV Ninja job too.
Like the Ninja, there are five job changes for the Red Mage in FFXIV patch 7.05.
Three Dragoon changes appeared in the latest FFXIV patch.
There are three more job changes to the Monk in FFXIV, following more major changes in the prior patch.
Three Summoner changes came up in FFXIV as well.
While many of the jobs above featured extensive changes in the 7.05 FFXIV patch notes, other action and trait adjustments were more minimal. For example, the Gunbreaker's Trajectory action and character movement happens faster. Machinist's Full Metal Field potency is higher. The Dancer's Fan Dance IV is higher after you learn Dynamic Dancer. With the Reaper, only the Perfectio and Soul Slice actions' potency changed. White Mage's Dia has a higher general potency and damage over time potency. There's also no longer any shared recast time for the Astrologian's Play I, Play II, and Play III.
Final Fantasy XIV is available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, and the Viper job class is available in the Dawntrail expansion.

Anycolor's VTA (Virtual Talent Academy) is now open for new prospective students who would like to become Nijisanji Vtubers. It's looking for four types of streamers: male idols, female gamers, those interested in the U-21 course, and those who want to enter the normal curriculum.
There are four parts to the application process, and applications are open until September 2, 2024. You will also need to be able to go to the in-person interview that's in Japan. All of them have more or less the same requirements, aside from U-21 which is specifically for those under the age of 21. Anycolor doesn't care how much experience you have or how old you are as long as you're genuinely interested in learning how to become a VTuber with them. As for the female gamers and male idols courses, Anycolor wants people who'll have flexible schedules after they start streaming.
Vtubers who were at the Anycolor VTA before debuting with Nijisanji include Kisara of Ayakaki (formerly Naejiro Chiwa), Tachitsute Toto, and Umise Yotsuha. Despite the many controversies within Anycolor, talents who debut with Nijisanji could gain a large following due to the company's exposure and marketing. This is especially true for those on the JP side, as Anycolor generally provides them with more support due to geographical proximity and its staff mostly consisting of Japanese people.
The VTA applications are open until September 2, 2024. You do not need to have your own VTuber model, nor do you need to have streaming experience.

HoYoVerse announced the second ever Zenless Zone Zero Special Program, which will go over things coming in the 1.1 patch. It will air at 4:30am PT/7:30am ET/1:30pm CET on August 3, 2024 on both Twitch and YouTube.
The image for the 1.1 Special Program highlights a number of Zenless Zone Zero Criminal Investigation Special Response Team Agents, suggesting the voice actors for those characters could appear or they may be the focus for the next part of the storyline. Zhu Yuan, who appeared in 1.0 is among them. We can also see her allies Seth Lowell and Qingyu. In the background is Jane Doe, an unknown individual who will also become playable after the update.
In the teaser, HoYoVerse also promised a Zenless Zone Zero code viewers can use in the game and a Creator Beta Server. In the case of the former, it will likely contain the paid Polychromes currency and other helpful items. With the latter, more news will come after the showcase and reveal details about the additions in the new version.

The Zhu Yuan banner in Zenless Zone Zero will run until August 14, 2024. This likely means the new version appears on August 15, 2024.
Zenless Zone Zero is available for the PS5, PC, and mobile devices, and the Special Program going over 1.1 will air at 4:30am PT/7:30am ET/1:30pm CET on August 3, 2024.

About a day after HoYoVerse silently replaced the voice actor for Argenti and Tail in the English version of Honkai: Star Rail, the voice actor in question—Adam Michael Gold—made a statement on his Twitter account. Though he did not give an explanation for why he is no longer those roles in the game, he reports that he's happy and healthy, and that he's grateful for the show of support.
In the statement, which you can read via a screenshot on his account, he starts by thanking people for the outpour of support. He adds that he really loves the Honkai: Star Rail community because of that. If he plans on releasing another statement in regards to the change in cast, it might be on another platform, as he notes social media isn't the best place for that. The only hint he gave as to the reason behind the replacement is that he has a clear conscience about the situation, and he's glad that he got the chance to play as Argenti and Tail in the first place, as he's come to love these two characters.
It's unknown if there is something going on behind the scenes with Honkai: Star Rail beyond controversy over the English casting for Moze (Chris Niosi). Niosi has since stepped down from the role. Argenti appeared in Versions 2.2 and 2.3. However, in both patches, the English version of Honkai: Star Rail was the only one in which Argenti did not have any voiced lines. It's highly possible that Gold actually left during recording for those two patches and only announced it today due to HoYoVerse finding replacements for his two roles.
Honkai: Star Rail is readily available on the PS5, Windows PC, and mobile devices.

The Pokemon Trading Card Game Shrouded Fable set is 2024's special summer release, which means it's largely only available as part of special boxed collections. Like 151 and Pokemon Go before it, it's meant to be primarily for collectors. It builds around the story of Scarlet and Violet's expansion adventures, and chooses as its centerpiece the new Pecharunt and its darkness-possessed legendary minions.
Given that this premise isn't "mobile game phenomenon" or "Kanto nostalgia" levels of broad appeal, Shrouded Fable has its work cut out for it. It feels like The Pokemon Company knows that, as it's introducing a Poke Ball foil pattern in the set to make it feel a bit more special. We're not sure that will be enough for a lot of players to invest, but for now, we'll just break down what's here and leave it for you to decide for yourself.
So first? Yeah, Pecharunt and the Loyal Three are here. Base versions of the Three showed up in Twilight Masquerade, so the ones here are all about being poisoned and mind-controlled by Pecharunt. Okidogi poisons itself to power up. Munkidori delivers ex-level strength but only offers one Prize when it falls. Fezandipiti watches on and offers card draw when the opponent downs its teammates. Meanwhile, Pecharunt manipulates from the shadows, switching out its team for free with poisonous side effects.
You can extend its power beyond its three usual subjects with Binding Mochi, a new Tool card that powers up poisoned attackers by 40. With all this poison going around, it's a good reminder that special conditions go away on the bench and Pecharunt's switching means you should be able to keep things in control. Still, that damage is going to add up no matter how careful you are. A non-ex version of Pecharunt also shows up as a promo in Shrouded Fable products, instead chaining and punishing poisoned opponents. So, weirdly, Pecharunt might be a Pecharunt counter.
In addition to the Scarlet & Violet DLC characters, Shrouded Fable also sees appearances from other "dark" characters from the franchise's history. Team Plasma leader Colress shows up on a Trainer card, as does Team Flare scientist Xerosic. And she isn't exactly evil, but she's certainly all about the poison, so Janine, a gym leader and Koga's daughter, gets a Supporter card that accelerates energy while poisoning your own party.
Rounding out the set are a selection of creatures, most of whom fit the theme of darkness and poison. You've got Houndoom, Sneasel, Dusknoir, Toxicroak, Crobat, Malamar and more in here to make sure you get this set's vibe. There's even an Electric Tera-type version of everyone's favorite pollution machine, Revavroom!
And hey: that new foil pattern ain't nothing. It features a hexagon grid with Poke Balls in each hex, and it's a nice enough look without getting in the way of legibility.
Shrouded Fable, as a set, is on the smaller side, clocking in at 64 cards before the secret rares kick in and 99 all told. This isn't unprecedented — special sets have been small in the past — but after 151's full Kanto Pokedex and Paldean Fates' ludicrous lineup of shinies, it's definitely an adjustment. But hey, that does make it easier to collect! So perhaps it's a fun full set project.
