Welcome to the Week in Review
Welcome
So much of our attention has been focused on Apple, Samsung, and Google lately that it was nice to have a week in which the biggest headlines were made by two other tech giants: Meta and Sony. The first of those held its annual Meta Connect event on Wednesday, and it was packed with actually-pretty-darn-huge announcements. Deep breath: the Meta Quest 3S headset, new Ray-Ban smart glasses, massive upgrades to Meta AI, and our first look at the futuristic Orion AR glasses. The last of those products is the most exciting by far, but as our Editor-at-Large Lance Ulanoff explains in the article linked below, you’ll never get to use them – and that’s a real shame.

You will, however, get to use Sony’s new PlayStation 5 Pro – or at least you will if you managed to bag one in this week’s first round of preorders. It was something of a throwback to the dark days of the original PS5’s launch in 2020; we had online queues, stock issues, timeouts, PS Direct failures, and (inevitably) reports of scalpings. Yes, all the old favorites.

I said earlier that it was nice to be able to focus on some other tech giants this week, and Samsung also made news with the release of the Galaxy S24 FE. You’ll find Philip Berne’s hands-on review of that linked below, plus our roundup of the best new shows and movies to stream this weekend and much more.
