Welcome to the Week in Review
Welcome
AI is moving at such a dizzying pace that it can be hard to keep up with every new tool. Scratch that – it’s impossible to keep up with every new tool.

They’re not all built equally, of course, so what you really need to do is stay on top of the genuinely useful ones. And as luck would have it, we’ve done the hard work for you, coming up with a list of the five best AI agents that can go online and get things done for you, like the digital butler we always dreamed of.

ChatGPT’s Deep Research is the most exciting. It only launched a month ago, but is already an essential part of the AI toolkit. Our correspondent Eric Hal Schwartz describes it as “the brilliant library addict you always hoped to be paired up with in school” and says that it's the “best bit of ChatGPT right now.”

But wait, what’s this? Google Gemini also has the same thing, also called Deep Research, and also capable of trawling through masses of info in search of the good bits. Either of these tools would have been huge news a year ago, but here we are with two of them launching within a few months of each other. It’s starting to feel like we really are living in the future.

And there’s more: AIs can now also write short stories for you, and clone your voice, and play chess with you – rather depressingly, in the case of the latter, it turns out they'll also cheat if they’re losing, so in that sense our AI future looks a lot like our human past.

Apple’s new MacBooks aren’t forging new ground in quite the same way, but that’s fine by us. Our reviews of the 13-inch and 15-inch versions are now live, and we’re happy to report that they’re just a little better than the old models, but at a cheaper price. That’s an equation that will always add up – and we don’t need an AI agent to tell us that.

Did you know some credit cards can actually help you get out of debt faster? Yes, it sounds crazy. But it's true. The secret: Find a card with a "0% intro APR" period for balance transfers. Then, transfer your debt balance and pay it down as much as possible during the intro period. No interest means you could pay off the debt faster.
