Shift Up Teases Stellar Blade Update and Possible Crossover silent hill resident evil

Shift Up teased a Stellar Blade 2025 Tokyo Game Show update announcement, and it could involve a crossover with another game again. The developer used the official social media account to share an image of a dilapidated, dark, blood red hallway with obvious beams showing overhead. It also teased a reveal with the words "in one week." If it comes in exactly seven days, that would put the Stellar Blade reveal at September 26, 2025, right in the midst of TGS 2025.

There are no clues beyond the possible location. Due to the use of the color red, as well as both red being a major color in the Silent Hill series and upcoming game Silent Hill f, that could be one possible crossover. However, the horror elements and fact that Shift Up is already working with Capcom on a Resident Evil crossover in Goddess of Victory: NIKKE could make it a possibility. No other company names are mentioned in the credits for the image.

Here's the full teaser image:

If this does turn out to be a Stellar Blade crossover with a game like Silent Hill f or series like Resident Evil, it would mark the third one for the title. The first ended up being NieR: Automata DLC. The second brought Shift Up's Goddess of Victory: NIKKE into the game.

Stellar Blade is available for the PS5 and PC, and we may learn more about this update and possible crossover during TGS 2025 between September 25-28, 2025.

New Xbox Series X|S consoles

Following a trend in the gaming market, Microsoft is hiking the prices of all Xbox variants in the US, with one particular version of the Series X costing up to $800. That's the price of a solid PC, built from parts as old as the Xbox.

As announced on the Xbox support page, these new prices come into effect on Oct. 3. The Series S will run you $399.99 and $449.99 for the 512GB and 1TB variants, while the Series X will go for $599.99 and $649.99 for the Digital and Physical versions, respectively. The 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition variant of the Series X now costs $799.99, which is a ludicrous price for five-year-old hardware that you'd expect to become cheaper over time.

In the case of consoles, that rule has no effect, and both Sony and Microsoft are steadily increasing the prices of their hardware despite their internal components remaining the same five-year-old parts they've had since the beginning. What's more, Sony's reportedly even cutting down drive space on its PlayStation consoles in Europe while maintaining the price, so it seems we're even getting worse hardware with time, but with the same or higher prices.

These Xbox costs have been driven by "changes in the macroeconomic environment," which could mean just about anything, from the Trump Administration's new tariffs to supply chain issues. This also only affects US customers, with the rest of the world dodging the bullet.

$800 for a console? Only in 2025. Image via Microsoft / Xbox

No matter what, though, these are massive prices to pay for aged hardware since you could build fairly capable PCs for just about the same cost, given that graphics cards, CPUs, RAM sticks, and other components from 2020 are now dirt-cheap in second-hand markets.

With enough time and care, you could easily have a better machine for just as much money, or even less, and since Xbox games always simultaneously release on PC, there's an extra reason to avoid buying these machines at inflated prices.

Additionally, if you're in the market for a console specifically, you can still get the PlayStation 5 or PS5 Pro and play Xbox-exclusive titles, which are slowly but surely making their way to Sony's platform.

The only argument left for buying an Xbox would be Game Pass, but then again, you can build a more competent PC and still subscribe to the Game Pass service, so there's quite literally no point in forking over this much money for a near-last-generation machine.

Bloodborne has its 10th anniversary in March 2025

Earlier today, we learned how there's reportedly nothing happening at Sony regarding Bloodborne, which comes as no surprise to anyone. The game's been stuck in PS4 hell since its launch in 2015 and was never ported, updated, or remastered for modern machines. Thankfully, the community's got our back.

As our Scott Duwe already wrote up, Bloodborne is seemingly not moving an inch, with Sony apparently caring little about porting or remastering the title for the time being. That'd be funny if it weren't so confusing, as Sony seems willing to pour hundreds of millions of dollars into failed live-service projects like Concord rather than earning a bucket load of free cash by releasing Bloodborne on PC.

Anyhow, we've all heard that story today, and have been hearing similar ones for quite some time. Bloodborne is in stasis, strapped in the Hunter's Dream, never to come out, be updated, remastered, or ported. But what is out and progressing rapidly is PlayStation 4 emulation on PC, tailor-made to allow people to run Bloodborne on their machines.

I've followed ShadPS4, as the project is known, for over two years now, steadily scouting out how Bloodborne runs on PC these days. And I can tell you it's almost as good as it gets. With high resolutions, a frame rate the official version of Bloodborne can only dream of, and only a handful of audiovisual glitches that players have ways to solve, Bloodborne on PC is a perfectly viable way to play.

That is, if you have a machine capable of emulating one of the most complex architectures in the industry's history.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJACcAJT1B4

And even if you don't, there are probably myriad patches, plugins, fixes, and tweaks you can employ to make Bloodborne run smoother, if not altogether perfectly. No matter how it runs, though, it's probably still miles ahead of the PS4 version of the game, which is stuck in a low 720p resolution that YouTube doesn't even consider HD nowadays, running at a locked 30 fps that it fails to maintain most of the time.

As the video above indicates (thanks GAMESMARK), you can have the game work at 4K, with mods improving graphical fidelity and lighting, as well as running at a smooth 60 fps. It's the superior experience, the issues you might encounter be damned. With time, Bloodborne on PC will only become better, and it has already surpassed the original version in more ways than one.

So, instead of waiting for Sony to remember it owns the IP, do yourself a favor and boot up Bloodborne via an emulator and enjoy the best Lovecraftian horror game you've ever experienced.

Note: Emulation itself is a legal practice, but pirating software is not. If you wish to play the game via emulation, you will have to procure the files from a legitimate copy you yourself have purchased and own. Destructoid does not approve of nor condone piracy. Buy the game, get the files, and play however you want.

Resident Evil Requiem protagonist Grace Ashcroft tied to a bed

Resident Evil Requiem is my most anticipated game, so every new report or leak that comes out about it further excites me and makes the wait for February more difficult. But then there's this latest one...oof.

Here's your spoiler warning, folks. Click away if you don't want to know more about RE9, even if the leak ends up being fake. You have been warned.

A ruined police station in Raccoon City in Resident Evil Requiem.
Image via Capcom

A supposed leaked image, originally posted on 4Chan (yeah, I know) and then re-posted to Reddit, shows a new look for one of the franchise's most popular characters, and one who is pivotal to the series' legacy in many ways, along with some Japanese text (translated by a Reddit user) describing Capcom's process of modeling characters in the RE Engine. And then there's some big red "CONFIDENTIAL" text in the top right, as always.

So, Leon S. Kennedy is likely going to be in Resident Evil Requiem. Leakers are saying so, and it would only be right for him to return as a send-off in this final chapter of the Umbrella story that Capcom looks to be telling in RE9. Chris has had plenty of time to shine (where are Claire and Jill?!), and so Leon is most likely to appear in this game. And that's exactly who we see in this purported leak.

Grace Ashcroft is probably just one of the playable characters in RE9. Most RE games had multiple. If we really are returning to Raccoon City to close that chapter, then Leon needs to be in it. Having said that, if in RE9 he looks like he does in this supposed leak, I'm pretty disappointed.

Fake RE9 Leon image
Image via Reddit/4chan

He's basically just Big Boss/Punished Snake/Venom Snake from Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. The low-quality picture depicts a Zombie in an RPD vest, a weird two-headed monster, and then our main boy. The image has Leon with the same exact haircut that he had in 1998, but with some graying to it, and a slightly graying beard. And an eyepatch. What.

First, dude, get a haircut. Change your style. Rocking the Titanic-era DiCaprio cut 28 years after your first day at the RPD is ludicrous. This puts him at around 50 years old, give or take, depending on exactly when RE9 takes place. I'm all for expressing yourself stylistically, but you also have to be age-appropriate.

But then the eye patch? Why? I've been making jokes about an old Leon showing up like Old Snake in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, a grizzled veteran ready to fight his final battles, but this leak makes it look like Capcom took that idea a little too literally.

So far, we've only seen glimpses of Grace gameplay from an early section of RE9. With Tokyo Game Show coming up next week, along with a potential State of Play from PlayStation, I think we'll begin seeing Leon confirmation in some capacity to hype up the game over the next five months before it releases.

I'm fairly certain Leon will be in RE9 in some capacity, with the odds showing that he will be the second playable character and action horror foil to Grace's pure survival horror. But if he shows up looking like Kiefer Sutherland's Big Boss clone in RE9, it'll be just plain weird, so I'm hoping this "leak" is a well-made fake.

Resident Evil Requiem RE9 Grace

Give him the beard, sure, and throw in some graying hair for dramatic effect to remind us all how god damn old we are now (I played the original RE2 when I was 9). But change up the haircut and leave the eye patch on the cutting room floor. Let's give our man the send-off he deserves.

Update on Sept. 19 at 3:40pm CT: For what it's worth, the same leaker who's adamant about Leon being in RE9 says that the image is a fake. Thank Spencer.
