Battlefield 2042 Beta Appears on PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store

Battlefield 2042 is launching in a little over two months, and DICE's online shooter has looked quite promising so far. Ahead of its launch, players are, of course, going to get the chance to go hands on with it as well through an open beta- but what exactly is that going to happen.

Well, it might be right around the corner. As spotted by @PlayStationSize and @Okami13_ on Twitter, files for the era access of Battlefield 2042's beta have appeared on both the PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store. EA has previously confirmed that there will be a beta for the game in the lead-up to its launch, but there's been no official word on when exactly it'll be launching. With early access files appearing on console stores though, it seems likely that the beta might be beginning soon.

Battlefield 2042 launches October 22 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Destiny 2 Won't Have New Darkness Subclasses in The Witch Queen, Year 5

Last week, Bungie revealed its future plans for the Destiny franchise, starting with the launch of Season of the Lost, the company's upcoming 30th Anniversary, The Witch Queen and even another new expansion called The Final Shape. However, among the new content that can be expected, there won't be any new Darkness-based subclasses in the coming years. This includes The Witch Queen and the duration of Year 5.

Sandbox discipline lead Kevin Yanes and gameplay designer Samuel Dun revealed that reason behind this in This Week at Bungie. "We made the call to refocus ourselves on Light subclasses this year." In that vein, there won't be any new Stasis Aspects or Fragments in this season either. "To that end we prioritized the Season of the Lost balance patch and another patch you'll hear about below debuting with 30th anniversary."

The Void subclass is the first to be receiving revamps with players applying effects like Suppression, Weaken and Volatile to foes while using Void Overshield, Invisibility and Devour. Certain perks are also being reworked entirely, like Moebius Quiver for Shadowshot firing two volleys of three arrows that will seek out enemies. These will create Void Anchors on impact while inflicting Volatile (which causes them to explode when taking more damage or through death). This means you'll no longer have to press the Super button numerous times to fire each arrow (and risk missing).

A release date for the Void 3.0 reworks hasn't been provided so stay tuned for more details. Destiny 2: The Witch Queen is slated to release on February 22nd 2022 for Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, PC and Google Stadia.

Fallout 5 – 5 Locations It Can Take Place In

You wouldn't think that post-apocalyptic nuclear wastelands would make for fun worlds to explore, but Bethesda's Fallout series has provided compelling and extraordinarily crafted worlds to explore on a consistent basis. Even when the series has stumbled elsewhere – looking at you Fallout 76 – the world design has been impeccable. Whether it be because of Bethesda's extremely finely honed knack for crafting great worlds, or the excellent Americana lens the series looks at its locations through, Fallout is consistently delivering excellent settings that you can lose completely yourselves in with each new game. And on that note, here, we'll be talking about five we hope to see the series tackle in the future.

NEW ORLEANS

This is probably on top (or at least close to the top) on most Fallout fans' wishlists for future settings. New Orleans would, simply put, be the perfect setting for a new Fallout game. There's the obvious fact that this is a series that relies a great deal on world-building with lore and backstory and building the setting's unique personality. New Orleans, a place with so much culture of its own, would be a perfect fit for the series.

Meanwhile, New Orleans' topography is another important point worth considering. Fallout games generally tend to be dominated by dry, barren apocalyptic wastelands, but a game set in New Orleans with radioactive swamplands would be the perfect way to shake things up. A location such as that would also be a great foil for all the times Fallout veers into horror territory with spooky locations and unsettling stories and quests. Oh, and think of all the different kinds of mutated freaks and monsters you could run into out in the swamps. That'd be a great bonus.

SAN FRANCISCO

San Francisco is a setting that Fallout as a series has plenty of familiarity with. Back before the Bethesda days, Fallout 2 was set in the region called the New California Republic, of which San Francisco was a part. Meanwhile, even though we haven't really visited the location since then, it continues to be an important part of the universe. Bethesda's take on the setting in a modern Fallout game could be a fascinating thing to experience.

Obviously, a fully fleshed-out San Francisco in a large-scale modern-day open world game would be an exciting prospect, and there'd be other ways Bethesda could do a lot with that setting as well. From a narrative perspective, from instance, the New California Republic being at the forefront of the story would bring about some interesting storytelling opportunities. Presumably, the game would have to be set earlier in the timeline, which would probably work as a solid refresh in its own right. And of course, it goes without saying that getting to see landmarks such as the Golden Gate bridge would be a great bonus.

NEW YORK CITY

marvels spider-man miles morales

It's a little surprising, honestly, that in all the time Fallout has been around, it's never once taken us to New York City. Arguably, that makes sense from a lore perspective- New York City might be practically all but wiped out the map, since it could potentially have been affected greatly by the nukes. Even so, it's hard not be intrigued by the prospect of a Fallout game that would let you explore the remains of New York City, perhaps see even more dilapidated and broken-down environments than in previous games. Seeing a city that was hit much harder than most other places would not only make for a nice change of pace, it would also allow for some pretty interesting and potentially creative design opportunities. Verticality, for instance, could be much more emphasized than it's ever been in a Fallout game before.

Interestingly enough, as revealed in a NoClip documentary from 2018, Bethesda initially considered setting Fallout 4 in New York, and even had design documents drawn up for it, which means that the idea for making a Fallout game in New York has at least floated around at Bethesda before. They did end up going with Boston as Fallout 4's setting, but there's every chance that they consider revisiting New York as a potential setting in the future. We certainly hope they do.

ALASKA

While speaking about New Orleans as a potential setting for Fallout 5, we briefly mentioned how it would also serve as a nice change of pace from the dry, barren places the series is usually set in. A setting like Alaska would work for pretty much the same reason. A Fallout game set in a frozen wasteland? That would certainly be worth experiencing. Seeing such a different kind of environment would be a huge point in the setting's favour, and given how different it is from typical Fallout settings, it could also potentially give Bethesda room for a lot of creativity from a design and worldbuilding perspective.

We have, of course, been to Anchorage in the Fallout 3 DLC. That was set in the very, very early days of the Fallout chronology though, and a honestly, had a much different flavour than what we're hoping we would find in a hypothetical Fallout 5 set in Alaska.

HAWAII

Again, just like Alaska, Hawaii would be a great way for Bethesda to introduce some visual variety to a Fallout setting. Locations could potentially be less devastated by bombs, with more tropical environments like radioactive jungles or beaches. The game could also explore so many ideas in terms of local mutated wildlife and factions. Just in terms of pure design and variety, if nothing else, a hypothetical Fallout 5 set in Hawaii sounds like an exciting prospect.

Even from a storytelling perspective though, Hawaii would make for a great setting, because Bethesda would then have the chance to combine the unique culture of place with the lore and worldbuilding strengths of Fallout as a series. It's hard not to get excited about such a Fallout setting when you think about all the different kinds of factions, vignettes, characters, and questlines you could potentially discover in that world.

Halo Infinite Dev Gives Details On Battle Pass Progression, Including No "Per-Match XP" At Launch

While it seemed that the game was in danger of yet another delay, it was confirmed earlier this month that Halo Infinite would still be making 2021 at the tail end. While it will lack some key modes and features, the base campaign and multiplayer will be here in December. Speaking of the latter, like so many other multiplayer experiences, Infinite's will be more involved with things like Battle Passes and seasons. There's still a lot of questions about how that will look and work, and today we got a few details, though it may be some that fans might be sour on.

Speaking on his Twitter, Community Manager John Junyszek spoke briefly about the Battle Pass progression system. It seems it will be focused on daily challenges, with promises that there will be a lot to do, and even though it will be possible to exhaust those challenges for those dedicated to the grind, Junyszek thinks there will be plenty for the average player. He also said something sure to raise some eyebrows by confirming that you will not be able to get "per-match XP," meaning that you won't get any XP towards your Battle Pass by simply playing matches. You will have to engage with the challenges to some degree, it seems, if you want that sweet XP.

Junyszek says there will be a blog post soon with more details, so we will have a clearer idea of what that will look like then. Needless to say, some probably won't be too happy with that, but part of the live service model is the ability to change things due to player feedback. We'll see what it's like when Halo Infinite launches on December 8th.

Fatal Frame: Maiden Of Black Water Gets Over 50 Minutes Of Gameplay Footage

After years of being in the grave, the Fatal Frame series will rise again with a remaster of the last entry in the series, Maiden of Black Water. Also for the first time in many years, the game will not just be on Nintendo platforms and will once again see itself come to a variety of platforms. The title was originally a Wii U title that released in Japan first and then came to North America and Europe afterward a good while after Japanese launch. Due to all those circumstances, it'd be understandable if you happened to miss it when it came around the first time in 2014. Now you can get a very lengthy look at the game with a new Japanese demo.

Coming from the latest episode of Famitsu LIVE, we got to see a lot of the early game, almost a full hour in fact. The video, which you can see below, is in Japanese with both Japanese text and commentary. So you may be a little lost if you don't know the language, but if you're curious how the game plays or what the environments will feel like, you can get a pretty solid idea.

Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water will release for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Switch and PC on October 28th, and will include a free upgrade to next gen consoles for those on current systems.

WarioWare: Get It Together! Shows Off More Co-Op Gameplay And Minigames

Those who know and love the WarioWare series know that it can be a chaotic and crazy time. The franchise has been through many different iterations, always finding something just different enough to keep things fresh while still keeping the frantic pace of the minigame-based gameplay that's defined it ever since the very first entry way back on the Gameboy Advance. The next entry, Get It Together!, is really no different as now the cast of characters themselves are directly getting involved in the minigames, and it also has a new co-op focus that was highlighted today.

Via the official Nintendo YouTube, we got a look at some co-op gameplay. As expected, the co-op aspect ends up creating a new layer of craziness, especially for minigames that your partner may not be prepared for. Speaking of, the video also has a few new minigames that we haven't seen. You can check it out in full below.

WarioWare: Get It Together! will launch on the Switch September 10th. If you want to try it out yourself, there is also a demo available now.

No More Heroes 3 Is The End Of The Series, Creator Confirms

The No More Heroes 3's official Twitter account has revealed that the No More Heroes trilogy is finally over – with the release of the final game today. Originally, No More Heroes 3 was subtitled as FINAL BOUT – All-Out Galactic War, and it's near impossible to decipher whether this is a joke or not.

No More Heroes 3 is of course, the conclusion of Travis Touchdown's adventures. What awaits him in his final battle will only be known to players who complete the game, which has been recieving generally positive reviews across the board.

Grasshopper Manufacture will probably be moving on to greener pastures with its next project, and it'd certainly be interesting to see the studio's learnings implemented in a new space. Gamescom 2021 has also concluded after a flurry of interesting announcements and reveals, including a release date for Halo Infinite as well as an official delay announcemnent for Horizon Forbidden West.

PS Plus September 2021 Games Possibly Leaked – Rumor

A recent rumor has suggested the batch of free September 2021 games for PS4 and PS5 ahead of official announcement, of course. French site Dealabs has unearthed the information, and has been a reliable source of information in the past – adding some credibility to the leaks.

The games mentioned in the alleged leak are – Hitman 2, Overcooked! All You Can Eat, and Predator: Hunting Grounds. This comes shortly after the rumored launch inclusion of The Medium on the service, which Bloober Team was quick to debunk. Collectively speaking, it's arguably identical in quality to this month's lineup – which includes Hunter's Arena: Legends, Plants vs Zombies: Battle for Neighborville, and Tennis World Tour 2.

PS Plus games have certainly seen a noticeable dip in quality in recent months, which reflect in Sony's numbers. The Japanese game maker lost over 1 million subscribers as per its quarterly financial reports, all while Xbox Game Pass Ultimate has been making waves within the industry.

New Grand Theft Auto Character Confirmed By Voice Actor

Voice actor Dave Jackson recently took to Facebook to confirm that he would be playing the role of one police officer by the name of Captain McClane. In the post, he reveals that this character would be a part of the "new Grand Theft Auto" series.

This vague terming has fans anxious and excited at the same time, since it isn't entirely confirmed whether this character would play a part in Grand Theft Auto 6 or GTA Online's future content. However, considering the fact that the voice actor isn't apparently under an NDA – it seems fair to put one's money on the latter possibility.

Rockstar currently has two Grand Theft Auto projects in the works for now – a still unconfirmed GTA Remaster Trilogy by Rockstar Dundee, as well as the next entry in the franchise which of course, is also unconfirmed. A plethora of rumors have surfaced over the years, some which seem to be most likely rubbish – read more on that through here.
