Created in tandem with Massive Entertainment and LucasFilm Games, the team at Ubisoft today released the world premiere of DLSS 3.5 with Ray Reconstruction in Star Wars Outlaws.
Netflix is working on an English live-action adaptation inspired by Kakegurui, with BET as the title. It will focus on Yumeko, a Japanese student who transfers to a boarding school. [Thanks, Anime News And Facts!]
Here is a synopsis of the show, which Netflix posted:
"In BET, the boarding school's hierarchy is upturned when Yumeko, a mysterious transfer student arrives from Japan with a dark secret and a gambling prowess that puts her in the crosshairs of the powerful Student Council. Ultimately, her revenge quest threatens to upend the school's status quo entirely."
Already, we can see some differences between BET and Kakegurui, aside from the obvious (the characters' ethnicity and the setting's country). In the original manga and anime series, a lot of Yumeko's motivations for gambling and transferring to Hyakkaou Private Academy stemmed from her personal gambling compulsion and addiction. Though she does have a mysterious past, Yumeko has a somewhat hedonistic approach to the gambles that she engages in. However, this change could be to make the show interesting for those already familiar with the source material, as well as some audience members who want a protagonist with a more "compelling" story.
Simon Barry (Warrior Nun) is the writer, developer, and director. While we don't know their roles yet, we do know these following actors and actresses will be in BET:
Anwen O'Driscoll
Aviva Mongillo
Ayo Solanke
Clara Alexandrova
Eve Edwards
Hunter Cardinal
Miku Martineau
Ryan Sutherland
Kakegurui (as well as another live-action adaptation) is readily available to stream via services such as Netflix. BET, the live-action show inspired by Kakegurui, is in production.
There are a lot of Paper Mario games out there, with varying degrees of quality. (We don't talk about Sticker Star anymore.) With one of the strongest entries now on the Switch, we figured it's a great time to talk about which Paper Mario game (or games) are best for people to play.
As someone who played Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door again fairly recently, I'm going to say that is the best Paper Mario game you should play. It's an absolutely fantastic RPG with tons of personality, memorable characters, great challenges, and a lovely aesthetic. There's no busywork. No bland character designs. Every part feels valuable. Plus, it's very easily accessible right now. — Jenni
With the caveat I've ironically played almost every Paper Mario game except The Thousand-Year Door (will change that soon with the Switch version), I would say the original Paper Mario on the Nintendo 64 is a classic and great place to start. The Wii U and 3DS games all have their share of issues, so there is nothing like the simplicity, charm, and surprisingly solid graphics in the original that hold up much better than other N64 titles. Plus, it is available through the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack. — Cody
Good Smile Company has opened up pre-orders for a re-release of the Joker figma from Persona 5. Good Smile Company also offers a miniature Morgana that you can place by his side.
Pre-orders for the Persona 5 Joker figma figure close on July 10, 2024. Those in Japan will have to pay 8800 JPY for him and he'll come out in November 2024. Meanwhile, those in North America will have to pay $51.99 and he'll ship out in November 2024 as well. As a reminder, due to geographical licensing restrictions, Good Smile Company only ships to Canada and the United States.
As a figma figure, you can twist Joker however you want (within reason) to make him strike different poses. The Good Smile Company shows a few examples. You can display him pointing his gun, adjusting his gloves, holding a dagger, and more. Of course, you can also make him strike poses that weren't in key visuals or in-game animations too.
Joker is the playable protagonist of Persona 5. Even though Joker's personality is fairly subdued compared to other characters due to the limits of his dialogue choices and his silent protagonist status, he is incredibly popular thanks to his suave design. He topped a Japanese popularity poll for Persona 5 characters, as well as appeared in multiple collaborations, including being a guest fighter in Super Smash Bros Ultimate.
Persona 5 Royal, the definitive version of Persona 5, is readily available on the PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC.
Spyro and Crash Bandicoot developer, and newly independent developer Toys for Bob recently announced that it has partnered up with Xbox to publish its next title, confirming a recent rumor. The game is "still in very early development". In a recent announcement, Toys for Bob announced that it is "in the early days of developing […]
The Wayward Realms is quite the concept for an RPG. Pages of pre-written lore underpin a procedurally generated world with no main quest, where a blend of handcrafted experiences and random encounters morph into one experience. It even comes from Elder Scrolls royalty that worked on Daggerfall. If that sounds like it's right up your street, our first proper extended look at gameplay is here, alongside the launch of a Kickstarter campaign.
If you've ever had one of those lazy Sunday afternoons where you just want to sit back with a long drink and doodle around, you'll know you can't beat the best sandbox games for a relaxing time. Along with the classics like Terraria and Minecraft, I'm a big fan of more pure creation tools such as Summerhouse that simply provide a canvas for your creativity. Tiny Glade is very much in that mold, offering a simply beautiful building game that puts powerful tools at your fingertips in a way that feels simply magical, and a free Steam demo lets you try it out right now at.
Even with plenty of initial success, it's not all been plain sailing for Wuthering Waves. A plethora of launch issues have plagued the gacha game, so now Kuro Games has apologized to players while outlining exactly what compensation we can expect; there's a lot.
If you've been waiting for the arrival of delightful action roguelike Shoulders of Giants on Steam, you can take a look at it in its new, upgraded Unreal Engine 5 form courtesy of a new prologue playable as a free Steam game. It's preparing to arrive on the Valve store soon, and you can play through the first act in a standalone form right now.
It really wasn't a late April Fools joke this time! Nvidia Project G-Assist is now real as Nvidia has unveiled a new AI game assistant app. It can work with your system and with input from game developers to let you ask questions about how best to proceed in a game or set up your system for peak performance, for instance.

While many players flock back to the game, the Multiversus relaunch has been a rocky one. Many features from the beta are straight-up missing, and some changes have been met with derision. The platform fighter filled with Warner Bros. IP controls well, and shows a lot of promise, but this return hasn't been without issue. Now though, it looks like many, if not all, of those beta features we're missing will be added back to the game at some point.
Back in February 2020, when Diablo 4 was still a glimmer in Lilith's eye, Path of Exile 2 was just beginning to surface as an idea, and Last Epoch was but a newborn babe looking to find its feet in the initial throes of early access, Wolcen looked to be the big new kid on the block. An ARPG with no class restrictions and a beautiful world to explore, it showed a lot of early promise. But bugs, technical troubles, and balance woes left the newcomer in a rough spot that it never recovered from, and now it appears the curtain call has finally come.
We've reached the event horizon of ridiculous Fallout New Vegas mods. People are giving an NPC absurdly comical hats after one earnest attempt to improve their mesh model, and the chaos is glorious. I love genuine attempts at improving old RPGs through modding, but you simply cannot beat an entire community of people doing something so innocuous yet dumbfounding. This is the New Vegas Hat War.
With recent success stories such as Palworld, Abiotic Factor, Enshrouded, and V Rising, there's been plenty of competition of late to the biggest survival games on Steam - Rust, Valheim, Ark, Sons of the Forest, and so on. All of which is to say that it's an increasingly crowded space to muscle into. Yet colossal contender Soulmask appears to have just done that, breaking through to the top of the global Steam bestseller list and doing so while holding a positive Steam review score - often an early stumbling block for new games due to potential launch issues.
It's official, the Asus ROG Ally X is here and available for pre-order now. Asus unveiled the new gaming handheld at Computex and it is packed with even more upgrades than we expected, including a massive boost in battery life.
While it's too early to say whether the Asus Ally X's improvements are enough to make it a contender to knock the Steam Deck OLED off the top of our best handheld gaming PC guide, the sheer number of improvements is sure to make a tempting prospect for many buyers.

After the huge success of Amazon's Fallout TV show, everyone has been diving back into the games. Fallout 4 and New Vegas have been the go-to for most, but what about where it all began - 1997's original Fallout? It's a game so old that pretty much any laptop can play it even with an integrated graphics card, but does that mean you should?
Hello reader who is also a reader, and welcome back to Booked For The Week - our regular Sunday chat with a selection of cool industry folks about books! Did you know that the word 'book' was originally spelled with several extra 'o's in it? This was changed when it was collectively decided that telling someone to "please, just read a book" was resulting in several more murders a year than anyone could be bothered to keep track of. This week, it's Obsidian vet and Pentiment creator Josh Sawyer! Cheers Josh! Mind if we have a nose at your bookshelf?
Sundays are for counting down the days to the new Doom reveal, unless it's happened already? In which case, wow, bold of Hugo Martin to cast himself as the Doom Slayer, but I like the moxy. Before I barge into the comments uninvited and argue with no-one in particular that Doom Eternal's lateral expansion of its gameplay loop was ultimately a fantastic choice for the long-term health of the series, you swine, let's read this week's best writing about games (and game related things!)
It's high time for Square Enix to give Dragon Quest the Final Fantasy treatment — at least in terms of games preservation. One of the best parts of the Final Fantasy series is how you can play almost every game on all modern platforms available today. In the same vein, we need all Dragon Quest games on all systems as well.
At this time if you boot up, say, your Nintendo Switch and look for a Dragon Quest game to play, you'll find I-III, X (if you have a Japanese account), and XI. Sadly, that is the best situation for modern consoles and PC. In terms of mainline games, most other platforms only have Dragon Quest XI available right now.
Image via Square Enix
The one caveat to Dragon Quest game preservation is how mobile devices gained access to most of the games in the series, but not all of them there either. In English, you can find the first six games plus the phenomenal Dragon Quest VIII. However, the seventh entry is only available in Japanese, while the ninth game on the Nintendo DS is tragically unavailable anywhere in the modern age. It is a pretty messy situation, especially if you are a console or PC player. This isn't the case anymore for Final Fantasy ,with every single older game barring XI and XIII available on most systems these days. (But then, FFXI is still actively running on PCs.) With Square Enix freed up from the Pixel Remaster series of those titles, now feels like the perfect time to give Dragon Quest the same treatment.
Now, we already know about Dragon Quest III's remake in the HD-2D style of Octopath Traveler. However, this remake is for a game that is already readily available. Not every game in the series even needs a remake, especially the latter ones. A Pixel Remaster-like series of IV-VI would work and be a pretty easy task for Square Enix to accomplish. Then, there are the existing 3DS ports of Dragon Quest VII and VIII, which are already great. They could come with little changes outside of higher resolution and single-screen display for modern systems.
Image via Square Enix
Perhaps the biggest problem of them all is Dragon Quest IX. This unique and beloved title has been stuck on the DS since its initial release. It would need quite a few changes, due to its dual-screen system, messy UI, and graphics to run on a new platform. More than likely, there would need to be a genuine Dragon Quest IX remake of some kind. It would be nice to see one in the HD-2D vein like its predecessor. Perhaps that can come later down the line.
From there, the only other issue is the infamous Dragon Quest X MMO situation. Well, at least for fans outside of Japan. Fortunately, Dragon Quest X Offline now exists as a pure single-player version in Japanese. If Square Enix localizes this version for all modern platforms, it can complete the library.
In an ideal world, Square Enix would take action to make Dragon Quest games much more accessible and preserve them for years to come. Most of these feel like they might only need pretty easy solutions to bring them more people, which would also result in more profit for the publisher. As such, here's hoping we get all Dragon Quest games on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, and PC soon.
The ongoing controversy regarding Jiyan's signature weapon on the Japanese side of Wuthering Waves continued, as Kuro Games accidentally leaked the emails of everyone who contacted it for compensations. The description for the weapon is now accurate in the Japanese version of the game. [Thanks, HXG_Diluc!]
For context, the Japanese version of Wuthering Waves had a serious translation error when describing Jiyan's signature weapon. The effect of Verdant Summit is that it increases Heavy Attack DMG Bonus every time the character uses their Intro Skill or Resonance Liberation. However, the Japanese version accidentally translated it as Intro Skill or Resonance Skill. To put it into simpler terms, a Resonance Liberation is an ultimate and a Resonance Skill is a skill. This is quite serious, as it completely changes the viability of this weapon for other characters, and players may have spent real money trying to get it for their Jiyan or Calcharo.
As a result of this, Kuro Games offered compensation and individual refunds for Japanese players who pulled for the signature weapon before May 29, 2024. You had to email Kuro Games to get the refund though, and this is when the current incident occurred. Instead of hitting BCC, Kuro Games hit Reply All, meaning that the emails of over 200 disgruntled Wuthering Waves players were leaked. In reading the email closely, the game will actually take away Lunites (the equivalent of an Intertwined Fate from Genshin Impact) if they refund money, which may leave some players with negative Lunites.
Wuthering Waves is readily available on the Windows PC and mobile devices.
There are quite a few mysteries in The Do-Over Damsel Conquers the Dragon Emperor manga, and it is incredibly satisfying to see some of the secrets already come to light in volume 3. The execution in the Sarasa Nagase and Anko Yuzu series is such that it's perfectly timed to aid in character development and energize the current storyline, while still continuing a perfect pace.
Editor's Note: There will be spoilers for past volumes of The Do-Over Damsel Conquers the Dragon Emperor manga below.
From the very first volume of The Do-Over Damsel Conquers the Dragon Emperor manga, the series kept us in the dark. How is Jill so magically gifted? Why is it that she ended up "getting a do-over" and going back in time after her former fiance, Prince Gerald, tried to kill her? Hadis is established as the cursed prince of the Rave empire, and we see his madness in the first volume's flashback. But we don't know why or how it is happening? Not to mention the second volume of the series saw Jill heading to the Rave Empire as Prince Hadis' future wife, but also brought on all sorts of political intrigue and unrest.
It was a lot of build-up, to be sure, and I was a bit concerned! After all, some series would take a premise like this and really drag it out. So I was shocked when this third volume didn't take too long to, well, actually start providing answers. Instead of letting the rivalry and villainy between Gerald and both Jill and Hadis sit, he's immediately there for a confrontation. The situation with the Marquess of Beil from the previous volume? We get a resolution to that too. The unease from the past entry's events? It's exploited to result in a new lethal moment.
In terms of character development, it's all fantastic. We know Prince Gerald is a pure villain with unknown motives. We only got brief glimpses at this in the first volume, however. In the third, he's even more calculating and it's a perfect chance to provide more reasons why we should hate him and be concerned, rather than have Jill tell us, via the mangakas, he's a threat. In the case of Hadis, we get valuable backstory into who he is, more insight into the nature of the curse, and even get to see how easy it would be for him to backslide into insanity and villainy himself.
Image via Yen Press
But even better, this is a great volume for Jill herself, as she's at her best in the third entry of The Do-Over Damsel Conquers the Dragon Emperor manga. We get to see that yes, she's still inexperienced and awkward around people even with her adult brain and insights inside of her child-self's body. However, there's also her commitment to Hadis and setting things right. She isn't going to back down from challenges. She wants to save people. Even if it puts her in direct danger, she'll work alongside the dragon god Rave to face it. The strength she shows and growth, in terms of recognizing the situation and her feelings toward Hadis, is so satisfying and encouraging.
But also, while this volume does provide some answers as to what's going on with the gods, the fight between the royal families of the two kingdoms, and Jill and Hadis themselves, it also doesn't give it all away. Just enough information is doled out to keep it from feeling like the story is being unnecessarily drawn out. We're seeing the revelations at the exact pace Jill could and should see them. It, in turn, makes the manga flow together so well. Especially since the relationship elements also feel like they're developing at a good pace.
The third volume of The Do-Over Conquers the Dragon Emperor manga is a classic example of fantastic execution of a story. The character development for Jill, Hadis, and Gerald is handled well. The new information that's critical to understanding everything is coming at a perfect pace. Also, it feels like we're getting a much better idea of how things could go, which makes it all feel even more exciting.
Volume 3 of The Do-Over Conquers the Dragon Emperor is available now, and Yen Press will release volume 4 of the manga on August 20, 2024. An anime is in development and will air in 2024.
