pubg black lagoon

Tencent's Lightspeed & Quantum Studios announced an upcoming PUBG: Mobile collaboration with Black Lagoon. It will start sometime in March 2022. During this window, players will be able to get costumes and voice cards of characters from Black Lagoon. However, there is no news yet as to which characters other than Revy will appear. [Thanks, Gamer!]

According to the announcement, PUBG: Mobile's official Twitter account and website will update with more information in the future. The website describes the event skins as "stylish and hardboiled," fitting with the noir action of the source material. Aside from a synopsis of the game and of Black Lagoon, the site does not have much on it. This collaboration seems to be exclusive to the Japanese version of the game.

The manga for Black Lagoon started serialization in 2002, and the anime series ran from April to December 2006. It follows Rokuro "Rock" Okajima after he joins the Lagoon Company and makes a living in Roanapur. Roanapur is a hotspot of multiple criminal organizations, as well as thieves, thugs, assassins, and the like.

PUBG Mobile is available on mobile devices. Past PUBG Mobile collaborations include Sakura Wars and Jujutsu Kaisen. The Black Lagoon event will run in the Japanese server of PUBG Mobile in March 2022.

pokemon tcg coolest brilliant stars cards

The Sword & Shield: Brilliant Stars expansion of the Pokemon Trading Card Game brings together a lot of experiments and ideas into one set. So what Brilliant Stars cards are most enticing? Here are our picks for the coolest, cutest, and most interesting of the bunch! (As well as a few that might see serious play.)

The coolest Brilliant Stars cards

It's hard not to bring up the new VSTAR cards, as they're flashy and powerful! Like previous efforts in the card game to bring evolution back to powerful two-prize creatures, VSTAR pals really ramp up the damage. The special thing: a one-time-use attack or ability.

Their most recent counterpart, VMAX, show up here too. Cards like Kingler VMAX really do look… I mean impressive, though sometimes in a way that's hard to decipher what's going on. Still! When they're played, they get a "whooooa" before the "wait, huh?"

As for the premium stuff? Yeah, gold Arceus VSTAR is cool, but the ultra-rare Single Strike Urshifu VMAX and Rapid Strike Urshifu VMAX are our favorites. The yellow-and-black color scheme and cool outlines really make them stand out.

The most interesting Brilliant Stars cards

While the Pokemon Trading Card Game remains plagued with balance issues that make most cards forever unplayable, it's nice to see efforts to mitigate that when they happen. The latest? Double Turbo Energy. Double Colorless has been a staple of the game for years, largely because it was so good! Too good, some might say? So this new version adds a cost: reduced damage. It mirrors the "agile style" in Pokemon Legends Arceus, so it works from a flavor perspective! And it still might be situationally useful, when you can catch an opponent off-guard by attacking one turn earlier.

The new Empoleon is a fun way to play a Stage 2 card without, you know, the usual hassle. If it's in the discard pile and your hand's empty, you can put it on the bench and draw three cards. It could be fun for decks designed to sift through cards quickly.

The cutest Brilliant Stars cards

There are a ton of Trainer Gallery cards with really impressive art. Our favorites? Eevee romping around Bill's place is fun, and each of its evolutions are fairly charming too.

But cards don't have to be rare to be cute! Like Piplup building a little snow-pal, or Minccino doing some dusting. Shinx playing with its tail is also quite charming. And since the Bidoof's Big Stand short, we're especially susceptible to the cuteness of the new Bidoof card.

The most meta-relevant Brilliant Stars cards

Entei V might see some competitive play! The fire legendary lets you draw an extra card every turn while it's in the lead spot, and a decent low-energy attack makes it a solid early-game option. And if you're not running Fire? Raikou V does the same thing in Electric. (Looking for the Suicune to complete the set? It appeared in Evolving Skies.)

As always, creatures that can use a bench slot to replace a trainer for the turn are nice! So Lumineon V letting you search for the Supporter you need could see some use. Similarly, you do have to evolve it, but Bibarel lets you draw up to five cards every turn and could be worth the effort to protect it. Tornadus rounds out the set with an ability that forces the opponent to swap their Active Pokemon.

Cyberpunk 2077's best player count in a year is a fraction of its peak

The latest Cyberpunk 2077 player count is great news for the RPG as it rose this weekend to the highest it's been in over a year, thanks to the announcement and release of the game's big next-gen 1.5 patch. Nevertheless, it's only 4.5% of Cyberpunk 2077's concurrent player count peak from launch.

Back in December 2020, Cyberpunk 2077 became the first single-player game ever on Steam to hit over a million concurrent players - a title the great cyberpunk game still holds, despite being knocked down to only the fifth-highest Steam player count peak by Lost Ark last week.

That concurrent player count record still stands at 1,054,388, but those players quickly dropped off from Cyberpunk 2077 as they either completed it or got tired of it. Just a month later in January 2021, the game was under 50,000 players and still falling. Now, thanks to the 1.5 patch news, Cyberpunk is finally approaching these numbers again, hitting 48,202 players in the last 24 hours - or, 4.5% of its concurrent player count record.

Rainbow Six Siege's new operator can repair breaches

Ubisoft is kicking off the seventh year of seasonal updates for Rainbow Six Siege with some of the most substantial additions the tactical shooter has received in years. There's the usual new operator - a Japanese defender called Azami - the first brand-new map since 2019, a new permanent game mode, a couple of operator reworks, and some long-awaited quality of life changes.

We'll start with the new operator, Azami. Her unique gadget is the Kiba Barrier, a throwable kunai that releases a substance after impact, which then hardens to form a bulletproof disc with a radius that's more than big enough. She gets four of these, but they operate on a cooldown so you can't just throw them all at once in a last-ditch effort to deny the attacking team access to the bomb site. And, while these barriers are bulletproof, they can be destroyed with explosives and a few melee strikes.

Azami is the first operator in Rainbow Six Siege who can repair or patch surfaces up after they've been breached, so her arrival is bound to usher in plenty of new tactics for the shooter's seemingly endless playbook.

Doom Shinobi mod is basically a new Ninja Gaiden

It seems like every day there's a new Doom mod that completely blows away our understanding of what Doom mods can achieve - from open-world apocalypse to Golden Axe. Now the Doom Shinobi mod threatens to add Doom to the best sword games on PC, as it turns the shooter into basically Ninja Gaiden 4.

The new Doom Shinobi mod is out now and can be downloaded from ModDB. Creator edypagaza says they aimed "to bring and experience a new gameplay style for players" and they have definitely done just that. While there is some similarity to the third-person melee combat mod for Doom II, that's based more on weaponless hand-to-hand combat.

Doom Shinobi, on the other hand, is all about awesome and ridiculous swordplay. The mod adds a traditional ninja blade, a ridiculous Final Fantasy VII-like broadsword, and throwing weapons like shurikens and kunai knives. Players can unleash multiple combo types and even magic powers against the demons. It really is quite insane.

Doom meets Trackmania in Warstride Challenges, and you can play it soon

Warstride Challenges is a new FPS game with platformer and racer elements that the developer describes as a deliberate cross between Doom, Trackmania, and Super Meat Boy. Think that sounds too mad? You'll be able to find out for yourself on Monday.

This combination of demon-slaying FPS with quick-thinking platformer and intense racing game is planned to be out this year in Steam Early Access. You may have come across it as Warcry Challenges, but developer Dream Powered Games recently decided to rebrand so there wouldn't be any confusion with the Warhammer series of the same name.

The developer has revealed that the first public demo of the rechristened Warstride Challenges will be available as part of Steam Next Fest on Monday, February 21. This will consist of 10 of the game's 180+ challenges over eight unique levels, with asynchronous multiplayer that allows players to compete against each other for better times. Dream Powered even promises prizes for those that post the best time on the demo's challenger map.

jolyne last survivor

Jolyne Cujoh will join the roster of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Last Survivor on March 9, 2022. That is the same date that the Stone Ocean challenge event will start. Fairouz Ai will reprise her role as the sixth Jojo for the game iteration. [Thanks, Famitsu!]

In JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Last Survivor, Jolyne will be a close-quarters combatant. Her Stand, Stone Free, will attack from a distance, as well as use its strings like a grappling hook. Jolyne can use her Stone Hook ability to attach her string to a building or object and jump towards them. This will help her to cover long distances very quickly, which is helpful for either escaping or going on the offensive.

String Jail creates a web of strings in front of her. Enemies who touch the strings will become temporarily immobile. Additionally, it stuns enemies so you can use String Jail to cancel any activated skills. Due to these powerful effects, Jolyne can only deploy String Jail twice per match. You can see Jolyne's skills in action below.

During the Stone Ocean challenge event, you can obtain exclusive event items, as well as early access items. The event will run from March 9 until April 26, 2022. More information on these items will appear closer to the event date, but one of the prizes seems to be the Ocean Blue palette for Jolyne.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Last Survivor is available to play in Japanese arcades. Jolyne Cujoh will appear in the game starting March 9, 2022. JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean is out now on Netflix.

Final Fantasy XIV Free Trial

Square Enix will allow users to once again register for the Final Fantasy XIV free trial very soon. Users will be able to register starting February 22, 2022, according to the official Final Fantasy XIV Twitter account. The trial grants users access to A Realm Reborn and the Heavensward expansion up to level 60. Registration for the free trial was temporarily suspended in December 2021. This was due to congestion issues following the release of the Endwalker expansion.

In July 2020, FFXIV Producer Naoki Yoshida revealed changes to the original free trial. This included the addition of the Heavensward expansion, and for players to reach level 60. Additionally, the inclusion of the Heavensward expansion into the free trial opened up several Job Classes to players. With the addition, players could pick from the Dark Knight, Machinist and Astrologian Job Classes upon reaching the Heavensward area. Players can also make an Au Ra character through the free trial. However, Square Enix has not announced any plans to add further expansions beyond Heavensward into the free trial.

Final Fantasy XIV is available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC. The Final Fantasy XIV free trial will return on February 22, 2022. Information regarding Final Fantasy XIV Patch 6.1 will appear through a Letter from the Producer Live on March 4, 2022.

FFXIV Female Hrothgar

During a Final Fantasy XIV Letter from the Producer Live broadcast, Producer Naoki Yoshida addressed the ongoing development of the female Hrothgar. And while there's no exact timetable for when players will be able to play a female Hrothgar in FFXIV, he said that the team has made some progress. As it stands, the art team has drawn a plethora of concepts, and two have been selected. However, Yoshida stated that it will be some time before the female Hrothgar will be playable in FFXIV.

Additionally, Yoshida reminded viewers that he had initially stated that the female Viera and male Hrothgar were intended to be the final races added into Final Fantasy XIV. He stated that the female Hrothgar is the final race he would like to do.

Square Enix also shared other information during the Letter from the Producer Live. This included information on a major graphics update that will appear sometime during Patch 7.0. Yoshida also confirmed that the team has no plans to drop PlayStation 4 support. He guaranteed support through the 7.0 expansion. Additionally, there will be some updates coming to the Trust system. Through Patch 6.1, players will be able to utilize the Trust system in A Realm Reborn duties.

Final Fantasy XIV is available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC.

FFXIV Patch 6.1 Roadmap

Square Enix released a roadmap for the upcoming FFXIV patch 6.1 to 6.5 updates. In addition to the main scenario updates, Square Enix plans to release a new adventure featuring Hildibrand. Also planned are the Crystalline Conflict PvP mode, alliance raids, tribe quests, and more. Further information about the 6.1 update will appear in an upcoming stream in March.

FFXIV's first graphical overhaul is coming in the next expansion

The latest Final Fantasy XIV Letter to the Producer stream happened earlier this weekend and brought with it a lot of info on some of the major things coming to the MMO game - including details on the "first graphical update" coming in the next expansion, alongside FFXIV 7.0.

The latest Letter to the Producer show for FFXIV kicked off this weekend, and it had already been announced that the stream would cover the next ten years of the MMO - as well as the updates that would build to the game's next expansion after Endwalker.

There was a lot of news in the stream but perhaps the biggest was the reveal that FFXIV's first graphics overhaul will arrive in version 7.0, with preparations for this running from 6.1 to 6.5 (thanks, Nova Crystallis). It will require an increase in the MMO's minimum requirements, but Square Enix will still "try to accommodate as broad a range of hardware specs as possible" - and don't expect it to suddenly look like Horizon Forbidden West or anything. With the number of people on screen, "I don't think it'd run on anybody's PC," says director Naoki Yoshida.

In the latest livestream, Naoki Yoshida stated that FFXIV NFTs would never be a thing. "No NFTs in FFXIV," he confirms - opposite to a recent statement by Square Enix's CEO.

Final Fantasy XIV's latest Letter to the Producer live broadcast went out this weekend and touched on a number of subjects, including the long-term future of the MMO. During the pre-broadcast segment (thanks, Fanbyte) the stream's titular producer Naoki Yoshida spoke - through Square Enix translator Aimi Tokutake - about the NFT controversy.

"We don't intend on incorporating any sort of NFT element in the game at this point," Yoshida confirms. "If anybody is worried or concerned about it, I can clearly state at this time that we do not have any intentions to incorporate that into the game." Then, just to be absolutely clear, he repeated, "no NFTs in FFXIV, so don't worry."

I go long stretches where I forget Starfield exists, but I'm excited everytime I remember. Bethesda games are big, in all dimensions, and I want to see what happens when their new scifi RPG debuts later this year.

The thing to remind me this time: an extremely brief video showing the creation of some key art, alongside a quote from lead artist Istvan Pely, who describes Starfield's aesthetic as "NASA-Punk".

World of Warcraft is getting class sets once again in the impending 9.2 update, offering armour designs that are personalised to the class you're playing. This is the first time such a feature has been in the game since Legion, and the devs at Blizzard are trying to build a "hybrid approach" between the old class identity-focused gear sets and the more recent designs that have reflected where you get the armour.

"We've heard for a while players really miss that class fantasy and the fantasy of the class set and how that aesthetic speaks to whatever class you may be playing," lead game designer Morgan Day tells us in a group interview session. "I always loved one of the original mage sets with what I called the little water globes on their shoulders, like they're making people water or something."

Day says the team felt like "we felt like we had explored the soulbind space and the Chains of Domination update, as well as other updates", so they "wanted to think about what other cool pieces of power progression could we let players explore and chase after". With how often players have asked about class sets, it was a natural direction to go.

FFXIV 'First' Graphics Update Will Arrive in 7.0

FFXIV will be getting its first graphics update by the time its next expansion rolls around. Producer Naoki Yoshida teased the improvements during the "Next 10 Years of Final Fantasy XIV" segment of the February 18, 2022 Letter from the Producer Live broadcast.

Though the game received various improvements and updates to its visuals over the years, the team is calling this FFXIV's "first graphics upgrade" as a way of setting expectations. Calling it the "first" implies that a "second" and more will follow, allowing the team to implement changes in stages with testing. This development will be ongoing until the 7.0 expansion releases. Yoshida also made clear that while these upgrades would likely cause the game's minimum required specs to change on PC. However, they will not drop support for the PS4 version, at least through the 7.0 expansion. In fact, optimizations for the PS4 version are in the works to allow players more control over their graphics settings. Similarly, the game will continue to support as broad a range of hardware specifications as possible for PCs.

The first FFXIV graphics update will target the appearance of characters. This upgrade will include higher resolution textures, improved shaders, and adjustments to lighting to improve the looks of characters and gear in-game. Yoshida showed off some results from their first month of testing higher-resolution textures and shaders, as well as experiments with improving lighting on characters. The results included looks at some of the in-game player races. He commented that Lalafell characters were the most challenging to improve, because their faces have few places where making things "more realistic" would be a clear benefit. Aesthetically, the team isn't aiming for the photorealism or extreme detail expressed in many standalone releases (Yoshida mentioned Horizon: Forbidden West's graphics as an example of something that would be unfeasible for FFXIV).

Check out the gallery below for captures from the presentation.

[gallery ids="917297,917298,917299,917300,917301" link="file"]

Yoshida also indicated that the FFXIV graphics update will also affect certain NPCs, who may be "rebuilt" to bring them in line with the changes to things like lighting or animation. He mentioned one character, Teledji Adeledji, who may receive updates due to his prominence in certain story-important cutscenes.

Some improvements will also extend to map visuals, with additional light sources for certain areas to make places look more interesting or atmospheric after the Final Fantasy XIV graphics upgrade. Other improvements include better shaders for metallic textures, better shadows, and an increase in the memory limits for areas to allow more objects to be placed in the same space. Even things like the automatically generated grass will receive retouches. Yoshida showed off before-and-after test results for in-game areas from Shadowbringers and Endwalker. Yoshida was quick to stress that these were just test results. Some changes were deliberately exaggerated as a way of showing how things could change, and not reflective of what the "live" alterations might look like.

The team plans to share more updates at future events.

Final Fantasy XIV is immediately available on the PC, PS4, and PS5. There will be updates to Cape Westwind and the Trust system.

FFXIV Cape Westwind Going from a Trial to a Solo Duty

During the February 2022 FFXIV Letter from the Producer Live LXVIII, Director and Producer Naoki Yoshida announced that Cape Westwind will go from an eight-player Trial to a solo story instance. It will be one of a number of changes to some early Trials.

Here is what Yoshida had to say about the FFXIV Cape Westwind fight. As a reminder, this is one of the first eight-person Trials people face in the MMORPG. In it, people face the XIVth Imperial Legion officer Rihtahtyn sas Arvina.

Considering Rhitahtyn is, like, the shield of the Garlean Empire… He's technically not a captain? But he's like a very prominent figure. I think it would be very humiliating for eight people to come in and just beat him up. So we actually allocated the resources to rebuild that battle so that it's going to be a quest instanced battle that you go in.

Yoshida also discussed some additional changes. The Castrum Meridianum and Praetorium will go from an eight-player to four-player instanced dungeons. This means Ultima Weapon will be a four-person battle. Lahabrea will become an instanced story quest element, just like Cape Westwind.

Final Fantasy XIV is available for the PS4, PS5, and PC. In addition to the dungeon and trial updates, there will be Trust System updates starting with patch 6.1.

FFXIV Trust System Update

Square Enix is planning to update the FFXIV Trust system in patches after 6.1. The update will add Trust compatibility to all main scenario dungeons and four-player trials. Furthermore, other low-level dungeons and trails will also get improvements at a later date. 8-player dungeons, however, will not get updated until after 7.0.

The update is part of Square Enix's ongoing mission to make FFXIV more appealing to solo players. The Trust system allows players to take on dungeons and trials using NPCs rather than other players, removing the need to queue up. Director and Producer Naoki Yoshida announced the news during the recent FFXIV Letter from the Producer Livestream.

The improvements will begin with patch 6.1, which will make A Realm Reborn scenario duties trust compatible. Various improvements will be made throughout the patches between 6.1 and 6.5. Standard duty queues will be unaffected. Yoshida stated that while the team would also like to add Trust compatibility to 8-person dungeons, they are unable to do so within the those patches due to scheduling and budget reasons.

In addition, Yoshida commented that players may wish to bring certain NPCs into some key scenario battles. One example given was the Nidhogg battle, in which players might want for Estinien as a Trust NPC. Yoshida stated that the team will modify some key scenarios and cutscenes in order to justify these NPCs joining the fight. However, these changes won't be applied to every dungeon.

Final Fantasy XIV is immediately available to play on the PC, PS4, and PS5. The FFXIV Trust system update will begin with patch 6.1, with further improvements releasing in 7.0 and beyond.

Yoshida Confirms 'I Want to Continue Working on FFXIV'

During the FFXIV Letter from the Producer Live LXVIII, Director and Producer Naoki Yoshida confirmed he has no plans to leave the game. He affirmed his commitment to working on the MMORPG. He also jokingly discussed the only possible situations that would result in him potentially leaving the development team.

Here is Yoshida's exact statement regarding his plans to continue working on FFXIV.

Me personally, unless the CEO [Yosuke Matsuda] says, "Yoshida, you need to leave…" And even then, I think I'm going to fight him. Or if like the development team, the operations team, want to kick me out. Or if I, God forbid, die. Those are the only extreme cases I would even consider leaving the XIV project. I want to continue working on Final Fantasy XIV. So your continued support will definitely be appreciated.

Ahead of the presentation, Yoshida discussed other thoughts on the game. For example, he mentioned that there are no plans to bring NFT elements into FFXIV. However, he did express interest in them as a business concept.

Final Fantasy XIV is available for the PS4, PS5, and PC. Letter from the Producer Live LXIX will arrive on March 4, 2022 and discuss the 6.1 update.

FFXIV Letter from the Producer Live LXVIV Will Discuss 6.1

At the beginning of the FFXIV Letter from the Producer Live LXVIII, Director and Producer Naoki Yoshida said to expect LXIX to discuss the 6.1 update. He noted the purpose of the February 18, 2022 presentation will cover different topics, the general future, and offer a Q&A. He also noted that the next Letter from the Producer Live will be held on March 4, 2022.

Yoshida didn't mention what people can expect from FFXIV update 6.1. He only said details would come during the next presentation. He also didn't offer an exact time for that stream. However, the Letter from the Producer Live segments tend to begin at 6pm PT/9pm ET or 7pm PT/10pm ET. For example, LXVIII began at 6pm PT/9pm ET, while LXVII and LXVI both started at 7pm PT/10pm ET.

As for the LXVIII presentation, Yoshida suggested it would be more relaxed. His schedule for the event ended up being divided into three parts. First was "Our Journey Thus Far: FFXIV from 2010 through 2021." After that, possible things to come would appear during "Newfound Features: The Next 10 Years of FFXIV." Finally, he confirmed things would close with a "Patch 6.0: Endwalker Q&A."

Final Fantasy XIV is available for the PS4, PS5, and PC. FFXIV Letter from the Producer Live LXIX will be held on March 4, 2022 and discuss the 6.1 update.

FFXIV's Naoki Yoshida Says No

Ahead of the FFXIV Letter from the Producer Live Part LXVIII, Director and Producer Naoki Yoshida commented on the possibility of some NFT element in the game. During the test stream, he shot down the idea of it being included at this time. He reiterated that they would not be incorporated. However, he did mention he would be willing to talk about the concept of NFTs separately and could see them as an opportunity.

Here is the full statement Yoshida offered on the possibility of NFT elements and FFXIV.

We did notice a lot of reactions, especially from the Western users about the NFTs. Many comments about how you are opposed to NFTs. I do understand that our CEO [Yosuke] Matsuda had commented on the concept of NFT in his New Year's greetings, in his messaging. There may be a bit of sensitivity, a little bit of nervousness, around the topic.

I did mention it earlier, but based on how FFXIV is designed, we don't intend on incorporating any NFT element in the game at this point. So if anybody is worried or concerned about it, I can clearly state at this time that we do not have any intentions to incorporate that into the game.

After he confirmed there would be no NFT element in FFXIV, Yoshida expressed his interest in general. He suggested perhaps an interview discussing the concept.

Final Fantasy XIV is available on the PS4, PS5, and PC.
