Classic MMO Tibia finally makes looting easier in new summer update

The last time I played Tibia was in 2004. I formed a band with a friend and we played tunes for coins outside a tavern in one of the game's main cities. With no music in-game, it mainly consisted of us copying and pasting lyrics into chat - but it still lingers as a moment only possible in an MMO, especially one of a certain vintage. Still going strong today, a new update has just hit the game and it adds a ton of stuff along with some much-needed quality of life features.

Massive new Bulwark Falconeer Chronicles update explained by dev

There are plenty of great strategy and building games to check out, with this year alone providing a wealth of options that runs from Manor Lords and Homeworld 3 to survival hybrids like Palworld and more to come soon with Frostpunk 2 and Nova Roma. One of the most refreshing takes on the genre, though, is Bulwark Falconeer Chronicles, an innovative approach to strategy design convention that tosses away unnecessary complexity and presents a unique fantasy world through a lovely visual style. Since it launched earlier this year, creator Tomas Sala has continued working on the project and now its newest update, the upcoming Naval Command, has been explained by Sala in further detail.

silent hill 2 mira the dog mask

The official Silent Hill Twitter (X) account has shown off how the pre-order Mira the Dog mask you can wear in Silent Hill 2 looks during cutscenes . As a reminder, you can get Mira the Dog and Pyramid Head, with Robbie the Rabbit being a PS5 exclusive.

A video on the Silent Hill 2 account shows how the masks look in-game, with the Mira the Dog mask as an example. It shows James looking into a bathroom mirror—a scene that is one of the more iconic moments from the game. However, it's hard to see his expression due to the giant, silly Mira the Dog mask he's wearing on his head.

As mentioned earlier, the three masks that'll be in the game at launch include masks of Pyramid Head and Robbie the Rabbit. The Mira the Dog mask is for people who pre-order the Standard Edition and the Robbie the Rabbit one will be for those who get the PS5 version. If you pre-order the Deluxe Edition, you can get Pyramid Head (as well as other goodies and early access to the game). Konami announced all of this during the May 30, 2024 Silent Hill Transmission stream. It's unknown if Bloober Team will eventually release more cosmetic items like a different jacket or something after the game comes out.

Silent Hill 2 will come out on October 8, 2024 for the PS5 and Windows PC.

Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 20th anniversary

Bandai Namco opened a new webpage to mark the 20th anniversary of Wangan Midnight: Maximum Tune. The company will gradually add congratulatory messages from both staff members and players of the arcade game series. The page is only available in Japanese as of its initial reveal, but the company is also planning to add English and Chinese versions in the near future.

This anniversary specifically pertains to the Maximum Tune series of arcade racing games. Namco released the first-ever Wangan Midnight: Maximum Tune entry in July 2004. It modeled the arcade game after Michiharu Kusunoki's manga series that launched in 1990.

Bandai Namco gradually updated the arcade games with new iterations that also added new cars to the roster. The more recent entries have been noted for featuring not only Japanese cars but also those from international brands, such as Audi, Lamborghini, Dodge, and Chevrolet.

The company had also launched Wangan Midnight: Maximum Tune 6RR Plus in Japan in April 2024 to mark the series' 20th anniversary. The home country usually enjoys the latest iteration exclusively for a period of time before Bandai Namco brings it to other regions.

For instance, the original Midnight Tune 6 appeared in Asia Pacific in July 2019, which was roughly a year after it came out first in Japan in July 2018. The release gap for 6RR was reduced to just a month when it came out in Japan in November 2021 and Asia Pacific in December 2021, although it ended up completely skipping the 6R version that appeared in Japan in 2020. Bandai Namco has still yet to announce 6RR Plus' launch window outside Japan as of July 2024.

Wangan Midnight has also been often compared with Initial D. Both car street racing manga series have been featured in crossover content updates, although the Maximum Tune games have still yet to directly feature Initial D characters like what Sega did in Initial D The Arcade.

The only direct collaboration event between Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune and Initial D arcade games to date happened in 2015, and it only rewarded seasonal interface decorations without any actual character content. Bandai Namco instead featured the character crossovers in its mobile game Drift Spirits.

The Wangan Midnight: Maximum Tune arcade racing games are readily available in arcade centers worldwide. The series' latest iterations as of July 2024 are 6RR Plus in Japan, 6RR in Asia Pacific, and 5DX Plus in North America—which launched in January 2022.

Ubisoft Apologies for Assassin's Creed Shadows Flag Art Infringement

Ubisoft Japan issued an apology regarding the unauthorized use of a flag in concept art for the upcoming Assassin's Creed Shadows game. The company used the flag of a real world Sekigahara reenactment group in concept art for the latest title in the Assassin's Creed series.

The flag in question belongs to the Sekigahara Teppo-tai (or Sekigahara gun group) infantryman reenactment group. The apology post originally appeared on July 8, 2024 on the Ubisoft Japan X (formerly Twitter) official account. In it, the company confirmed that the flag was used in two instances of concept art. Additionally, with the exception of the flag being featured in the physical art book of the collector's edition of Assassin's Creed Shadows, Ubisoft revealed that it won't be used moving forward.

Ubisoft also said that it directly contacted the reenactment group and apologized to its members. The own Sekigahara Teppo-tai confirmed via X (Twitter) that they had been approached by the company with an apology on July 3, 2024, and it reiterated that the already printed data showing the flag would be difficult to eliminate.

Assassin's Creed Shadows was originally revealed on May 16, 2024, and a new trailer featuring the protagonists, Naoe the shinobi and the samurai Yasuke, appeared on June 10, 2024.

Assassin's Creed Shadows will come out on November 15, 2024 for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC.

Review- Riven VR Is a Noble VR Endeavor

Even if a VR adaptation of a game isn't perfect, sometimes it feels worthwhile due to the nature of it and effort put into making it work. Riven is a great example. We already know the game is a fantastic and beloved adventure. The core of the experience is tried and true. The VR adaptation of Riven at times is incredibly impressive on the Meta Quest 3, especially if you played the original game in the 1990s, even if there are some issues with loading, textures, and properly keeping notes to help you on your way.

Riven picks up after the events of Myst, but the execution is such that someone unfamiliar with the lore could jump in and appreciate the puzzles and adventure without knowing all about Atrus, Gehn, and the nature of the linking books in the world. The important thing to know is Atrus seeks the player's help in saving his kidnapped wife Catherine from his father Gehn, who brought her into the collapsing world known as the Age of Riven. Since Atrus needs to try and keep the world stable, it is up to those of us playing to head in, find Catherine, and imprison Gehn, solving many puzzles along the way.

While Riven began its life as a point-and-click adventure, the VR version succeeds in making it feel a bit more like a traditional adventure game filled with puzzles. You'll explore the five islands in the world, solving puzzles that help you proceed, learn more about the situation, and carry on. It's a much more tactile experience on the Meta Quest 3, which suits the game even better than I expected. After all, you need to look through environments and interact with what you find to constantly learn more about the age. The controls feel natural. The puzzles and nature of it all is also very freeing, with someone left to essentially learn by doing, which makes it feel even more satisfying when you see the influence your actions have.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ap6fnRLXk20&ab_channel=Cyan

However, I experienced many moments when I honestly would have preferred to be playing Riven in a more traditional way and not in VR on my Meta Quest 3. Some of it involved the pitfalls that can come from VR games in general. That is, your degree of comfort may vary, and I found it wasn't as good as accommodating my needs and warding off potential motion-sickness as Asgard's Wrath 2. (I still consider that the pinnacle of comfort in VR adventuring.) This is a your mileage may vary sort of issue, as others might feel more at ease with it. Plus, you can mitigate it by playing in shorter sessions. However, the extent of it can also depend on the randomized solutions for some puzzles or how observant you are when figuring out what items to find and use.

Which brings me to the more pervasive issue with Riven in VR on the Meta Quest headsets. In the more traditional and PC versions of the game, I always felt like it was fairly easy to see when I'd need to find especially notable objects or switches in the game. I also played both Myst and Riven with actual physical notebooks by me, so I could jot down places or things I needed to remember. These are really thoughtful games that demand a lot of your attention. You need to be able to remember and reference things easily. While I could take screenshots of moments to help recall things I needed to know, it pales in comparison to taking more detailed notes. It isn't as easy to keep track of what I'm doing. I did find myself actually sitting down while playing at one point, taking notes on paper as I played, and it ruined the immersion and moment as I kept taking the headset on and off. (Not to mention it ended up being a bit disorienting!)

If you can get past those things, Riven is really something in VR. Especially since it generally looks really great. Cyan Worlds and Starry Expanse Project did a fantastic job of turning the original game into an actual world we can move through and explore. There is occasionally a loading issue with some elements of the world, not to mention when you're actually getting into things. I did notice some textures might not look as good as others, and it does feel a bit like some of the personality of the characters is lost with the new models that needed to be used. But considering the age of Riven and the feats needed to bring this VR version to life, it feels like a small price to pay for something that does look and feel as immersive as it does. Not to mention, it's a testament to how enduring the design of the original game was.

Riven may not be perfect on the Meta Quest 3, but the VR version is worth experiencing if you love the game and series. Considering what needed to be done to bring it to life, it feels incredible to actually be walking around the Age of Riven's five islands. It's enough to make me forgive the smaller technical issues and shift to character models from FMV. However, it can be more difficult to play due to it not being as easy to keep track of what you're doing and work out solutions in optimal fashions, especially since the nature of the medium could mean you'll have some trouble finding what you are looking for or interact with to proceed.

Riven is available on the Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest 3, and PC and Mac with VR support.

Takeharu Ishimoto Hear a Song From the Bleach: Rebirth of Souls Soundtrack

At Anime Expo 2024, Bandai Namco and Tamsoft announced the new Bleach: Rebirth of Souls game, and now there's a chance to hear two songs from its soundtrack. The companies shared the songs "Rebirth" and "Absolution" by The BONEZ and Sound Composer Takeharu Ishimoto on social media.

First, here's the full one minute and twenty-four second clip of "Rebirth." The Bleach: Rebirth of Souls song features some lyrics to it, and it sounds like it could be the sort of track off a soundtrack used for a something like a menu. There's no gameplay footage shown during it. Only the key art of Ichigo in his Soul Reaper attire appears alongside the game logo.

https://twitter.com/BLEACH_game_en/status/1810358240628130154

Next, here is how "Absolution" sounds.

https://twitter.com/BLEACH_game_en/status/1810359492476825984

Takeharu Ishimoto recently worked on Neo: The World Ends with You, following work on the original TWEWY game and anime soundtrack. The Steam page for the upcoming 2024 release Tsurugihime also confirmed he is a composer for it.

Bleach Rebirth of Souls is now in development for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC. There's no release window for the game just yet, beyond "coming soon." The Bleach anime, including Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War, is streaming on Disney+ and Hulu. Viz Media handles the manga.

A Banana style idle game called Hamster is blowing up on Steam

Create a platform of any kind on the modern internet and it won't be long until enterprising users figure out strange new ways to exploit it. Steam, despite being around for quite a while now, is no exception, with extremely simple idle or clicker games popping up on the storefront and climbing the charts based on the absurdity of their premises. In the past, we've seen games like Banana and Cats trend, their take on a genre once dominated by Cookie Clicker, Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms, and AFK Journey boiled down to their foundations — and made a bit more nefarious by offering chances to collect item drops that can be sold for real money. The latest of these is called Hamster and, as its title suggests, it involves clicking (and clicking and clicking) on an image of a hamster.

Dark and Darker is still doing well on Steam one month after launch

Dark and Darker has had a tough time heading into its Steam Early Access launch. A throwback dungeon crawler that owes as much to classics like Wizardry, King's Field, Ultima Underworld, Eye of the Beholder, and Arx Fatalis, as it does modern takes on the genre like Darkest Dungeon or the Legend of Grimrock games, Dark and Darker vanished from Steam and spent much of last year embroiled in legal issues before finally returning to the platform last month. Since then, it's faced criticism from players upset with the difference between its paid and F2P versions, leading to mixed reviews. Still, despite these troubles, it's managed to maintain a healthy player base, continuing to foster an active community a month since its relaunch.

Don't play Dungeonborne on Steam Deck, unless you want to be banned

If you're looking forward to the release of Dungeonborne, the PvPvE dungeon crawler, it's worth noting that you might not be able to play it on the Steam Deck. This information comes from users participating in the current playtest who say they have been banned after playing the game on Valve's handheld.

Even as the best handheld gaming PC on the market, the Steam Deck has its weaknesses when it comes to gaming. One example is the Linux operating system's incompatibility with various anti-cheat software.

Each time the game's become available to fans it's been a quiet success, with feedback erring on the positive. Now, the next few months have been detailed on the road to a wider Steam Early Access release.

New Red Dead Redemption 2 mod fixes the game's most irritating problem

I love the chapter one prologue to Red Dead Redemption 2. It's a slow, monotonous trek through mountains during a blizzard. This makes it a chilling set up for the fate of the gang - doomed by poor leadership and bad luck. A lot of people hate it, however, because it stops them getting into the meat of the game on a new playthrough. Fortunately, a new mod will fix the issue for these players by providing a save file that dumps you right into chapter two, complete with all five gang member requests initiated.

I was on annual leave last week, away from my desk, supposedly touching grass. What actually happened, however, is that I plowed literal days into Zenless Zone Zero, HoYoverse's neo-futuristic anime game.      The best FPS games on PC 2024

What are the best FPS games on PC? From the classic physics chaos of Half-Life 2 to Halo Infinite's beautifully rendered worlds, these are the finest FPS games.      Best mini gaming PC: top compact PCs in 2024

What is the best mini gaming PC? The traditional image of a gaming custom PC is some hulking behemoth of a machine, with frantically spinning fans, blazing rainbow RGB LEDs, and monstrously large graphics cards. But the best mini gaming PCs are compact machines that house full-scale components. Despite their size, mini PCs don't skimp on performance and are ideal for smaller gaming desks or if want to take it traveling.

In this guide, we've chosen pre-built mini gaming PCs from the likes of Origin, Corsair, and more. Check out how to build a gaming PC if you want to choose the components and PC case yourself.

Some exceedingly small and cheap mini gaming PCs such as those offered by Minisforum take AMD mobile CPUs, with their iGPUs that punch well above their weight and let them rip with their maximum power draw – which can be capable even at 1080p.

We suggest thinking about cooling solutions and how easy it is to upgrade the machine. There's no point in spending money on components that are going to throttle the moment they heat up. These are the best mini gaming PCs to game in confidence and small spaces. If you want full power (and have the room), check out our full best gaming PCs guide.

What are the best racing games on PC? Whether mastering muddy tracks in Dirt Rally 2 or embracing Forza Horizon 5's magnificent Mexico, these are the best racers around. To say Payday 3 had a tumultuous launch would be an understatement. Its Steam reviews plummeted to mostly negative and people abandoned it for its predecessor - Payday 2 - following technical issues and reports of missing features. It seemed dead in the water but a recent update and the Steam Summer Sale seem to have revitalized the game. More players are heisting now than anytime in the last six months. There are plenty of NBA 2K24 locker codes to redeem for new player cards, XP boosts, and MyPlayer gear, among others. However, you'll need to be quick to snag them for yourself.

Soaring on Steam, Once Human may be the biggest survival game ever

We all thought Palworld would find some kind of success, but I don't think anyone - even its creators - expected the seismic splash that it made on Steam back in January. At its peak, Pocketpair's monster-driven survival game pulled in more than two million players at once. Now, some six months later, it averages just over 100,000. That's a big decline, but Palworld is one of the lucky ones - big games, especially middle-budget survival and horror projects, arrive, thrive, and die at an alarming rate, and the competition is more extant than ever. It's a tough world out there. Once Human, one of the most popular games on Steam already, has every chance of success, but in such a crowded genre, how does it stand out from rivals like Stalker 2, Soulmask, and the esteemed Palworld itself? Speaking exclusively to PCGamesN, developer Starry Studio explains.

The Ukrainian city of Mariupol came under heavy bombardment during the opening months of Russia's invasion in 2022, a programme of artillery and air strikes that damaged or destroyed the majority of residential buildings and has killed or dispossessed thousands of people. It has now been occupied by Russia for almost two years, during which, as reported by the Associated Press, Russia has demolished, rebuilt and renamed much of the city, overwriting its Ukrainian heritage.

The Disco Elysium-inspired RPG Hollow Home is a memory of Mariupol from just before the war - not a 1:1 recreation, but a collection of details, colours, personalities and some familiar buildings, painstakingly amassed and offered up in the face of erasure. Speaking to me during a very brief demo at Digital Dragons in Poland this year, artist Anastasia Hlyniana called my attention to the plants jutting from old car tyres around the game's isometric map, which she says are a common sight in Mariupol.

Overlord Imagine Stories card game

Kadokawa revealed a new Overlord-themed card game that will let players generate random stories featuring characters from the franchise. The game's title will be Overlord: Imagine Stories, and it will appear in Japan in September 2024.

The game can be played solo or multiplayer with an average play session time of around twenty minutes. The player will place seven characters who will interact with each other, along with event descriptions like amnesia or betrayal. They can then roll the dice to determine whether the characters will have neutral, friendly, or hostile encounters, as well as the quality of the story's ending.

Overlord: Imagine Stories will be available for purchase via four Japanese web stores: Animate, Rakuten Books, 7net Shopping, and Kadokawa Store. However, none of them formally support international shipments of this product. Even though Kadokawa Store does have a WorldShopping widget, it does not include global shipping compatibility for this set.

Each outlet will also feature a limited stock of exclusive bonus cards based on the new characters appearing in the Overlord: The Holy Kingdom movie, which is set to launch in Japanese theaters on September 20, 2024—the exact same day Kadokawa releases this card game set.

The exclusive character list is as follows:

The Overlord: Imagine Stories card game set will be available on September 20, 2024.

Overwatch 2 Transformers Trailer Shows Bastion Bumblebee, Optimus Prime Reinhardt

The latest Overwatch 2 Transformers trailer ahead of the July 9, 2024 event showed Bastion as Bumblebee, Reinhardt as Optimus Prime, and Illari as Arcee. This comes after a July 5, 2024 Overwatch Transmission comic confirmed Megatron Rammatra.

Here's the full animated Overwatch 2 Transformers trailer. It begins with us seeing the Bumblebee version of Bastion. After that, we see the Illari version of Arcee lying on some grass with her gun nearby. This is followed by the Optimus Prime version of Reinhardt at a castle, with his hammer at his side. As the video goes on, Megatron Rammatra shows up. We then see the Transformers versions of the characters take action to fight against Rammatra.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3K-Avl7yFY&ab_channel=PlayOverwatch

The video doesn't note if there will be any special limited-time mode to go along with the crossover.

This comes following the return of Pink Mercy. That skin and a Rose Gold Mercy Bundle appeared for Breast Cancer Research Foundation support. Those are only available until July 8, 2024. If people buy them, Blizzard donates all money spent to charity.

Overwatch 2 is available on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC, and the Transformers crossover event begins on July 9, 2024.

11 Zenless Zone Zero Known Issues Fixed

HoYoVerse announced that between July 4-6, 2024, it fixed eleven known issues in Zenless Zone Zero. While some are minor and involved in-game text changes, others could be more serious and affect progression during a specific Rally Commission or keep someone from properly using the Squad configuration section.

Some of the fixed Zenless Zone Zero known issues were bugs that caused problems on all platforms. For example, "The Proxy and the Hare" quest negatively affected HP recovery, until it was fixed on July 4, 2024. Events might not have shown new icons, the "Qualification Assessment - Edge" Hollow Zero Gatekeepers wouldn't give enough points, unlock requirement descriptions for some locations might not show properly even though it will unlock correctly, and store tags won't show up correctly. One of the problems, which was fixed on July 6, 2024, could be gamebreaking and stop progress in the Metro Terminal - Edge" Rally Commission.

A few of the problems were platform-specific. For example, two were known for Android and iOS devices. On June 5, 2024, the issue keeping Agents from showing in Agent Interface was fixed for Android devices. Then the next day on June 6, 2024, the issue with Plugboo on iOS devices that kept people from changing things up in Squad Configuration was fixed.

Zenless Zone Zero is available for the PS5, PC, and mobile devices.

Prior to this reveal, we did get to hear the Japanese voice actors briefly for both Kirie and Shuichi. They appeared in a "first look" trailer for the show that appeared at the 2023 San Diego Comic Con.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qRrqvjjKlOs&ab_channel=AdultSwim

While we did get to know about the actors, we still didn't get a release date for the Production IG show. It has been delayed multiple times since the original alleged 2020 launch window. Most recently, a Japan Times interview with Junji Ito in June 2024 suggested the show would appear on Cartoon Network in 2024.

The Uzumaki anime will apparently air during Cartoon Network's Toonami block in 2024, and Viz Media handles the manga outside Japan.
