PCGamesN Friday, January 7, 2022 2:12 PM It looks like we're going to be seeing the sequel to Star Wars: Jedi - Fallen Order sooner rather than later, as multiple reliable insiders are reporting that the game is set to be revealed ahead of E3 time this year. The game is reportedly targeted for release this year, though it may be delayed to early 2023. It's also unlikely to actually be called Fallen Order 2. The Fallen Order sequel "should get announced before E3," reporter Jeff Grubb says in his GrubbSnax podcast (paywalled). "I've said a bunch of times, like, 'it'll happen early this year'. Let's define that: it's gonna mean before E3, probably also in the May timeframe. May the 4th might work, but basically expect to hear about that game in a significant way before E3." May the 4th is a running gag among Star Wars fans that Lucasfilm and Disney have now turned into a big marketing day for the franchise. Star Wars Celebration, the annual fan convention, is scheduled to take place May 26 through 29, and is another likely venue for the announcement, Grubb speculates. PCGamesN Friday, January 7, 2022 1:32 PM Apparently we're about to hear about a new Serious Sam game. Publisher Devolver Digital has let it slip that an announcement for a new game in the over-the-top FPS game series is coming next week, and that the game itself - whatever form that takes - will be launching before the end of January. "What if a new Serious Sam game was being announced next week and released this month?" Devolver asks in a tweet posted the evening of January 6. What if, indeed - but to drive the suggestion home, the publisher included a short video clip with the tweet. In it, a marine buoy is shown floating in an arctic (or possibly antarctic) sea, surrounded by icebergs and snow-covered landmasses. A speedboat whizzes by, disturbing some seagulls that have settled on the buoy. The clip cuts to a shot over land, where we see a large hole bored through a pillar of rock. "Damn, it's cold," we hear Sam Stone say. "But nothin' warms me up like kickin' ass!" Classic Sam, right? RELATED LINKS: Serious Sam 4 review, Best FPS games, Best co-op gmaes |

PCGamesN Friday, January 7, 2022 12:48 PM I've been playing Destiny consistently since the original game launched, way back in September 2014. Colleagues at PCGamesN have, understandably, described me as a fan. This used to bother me. From day one Bungie's behemoth has been remarkable as much for its frustrations as for what it gets right, and to be known as the 'Destiny guy' suggests I haven't noticed its flaws. There were definitely moments, after one too many disappointing stories or mind-numbing grinds, when I would've quit playing if not for the fact that knowing the intricacies of this huge game is useful for my job. This is to say that if you've tried Destiny before and bounced off, I get it. But you may have been watching from a distance, wondering if there would come a time when it got good. I imagined this moment way back in our Destiny 2 review, in which I concluded: "if you aren't sold, you don't need to decide now. Destiny will undoubtedly go on." Indeed it has, and as of this year, I'm going to put it out there: now's the time. Destiny 2 has been improving for a long while, but it's really, properly good now. PCGamesN Friday, January 7, 2022 12:32 PM Minecraft is filled with fan-made monuments to other games. It's not uncommon to see players spend hundreds of hours recreating familiar cities or towns to a one-to-one scale, and there are plenty of official texture packs from Mojang to tempt creativity. Every now and then, though, something still comes along that manages to blow us away. Doomed: Demons of the Nether is a Minecraft adventure map that borrows inspiration from recent Doom games. It's been in the works since March 2020, and it's coming out tomorrow (January 8). You're getting a single-player campaign with levels through Mars, the UAC Facility, The Foundry, and The Nether alongside custom 3D modelled and programmed weapons and abilities, boss fights, and cinematics. While creator Sibogy took plenty of inspiration from Doom 2016 and Eternal, though, they're keen to stress that Doomed is very much its own thing. "It's not a copy-paste though; the level design is all different and will provide something new even for people who have already played the other Doom games," Sibogy says. "I didn't want to make a 1:1 copy because you might as well play Doom at that point. If something seemed fun I looked to implement it." PCGamesN Friday, January 7, 2022 12:30 PM Monster Hunter Rise comes to Steam next week, and you already know it's going to have all kinds of improvements over the Switch original, like higher resolutions and unlocked frame rates. But who cares about that stuff, am I right? Today we've gotten a look at something much more important: screen filters. I joke, but these filters do actually look pretty cool. There's black and white and sepia filters, as well as a 'Japanese style' that desaturates the image and a 'Warring Lands style' that turns up the saturation knob. You can pair the sepia or black and white filters with a cinema style that adds film grain and noise to the picture, turning Rise into a fantastical Akira Kurosawa flick - a bit that Capcom leans all the way into in the launch trailer below. Monster Hunter Rise hits Steam on January 12, with all the update content originally released for the Switch version up to version 3.6.1. Capcom plans to have both versions totally in sync by the end of February, well ahead of the launch of the Sunbreaker expansion this summer. RELATED LINKS: Upcoming PC Games, Best PC RPGs |
PCGamesN Friday, January 7, 2022 12:16 PM So you're looking for some decent tycoon games? Whether you're looking for something more on-the-nose, or a complex, nuanced business simulation game, there's plenty of great options to choose from right now, across a range of themes. This is a classic genre that's had plenty of love since its early days, with sequels and new blood galore. While there are plenty of classic tycoon games we could talk about - many of which actually have 'tycoon' in the name - we've decided to focus on modern highlights, as this is a genre that's constantly getting new releases and new ideas. We've also kept the definition relatively broad, as there are plenty of games that you may not consider strictly 'tycoon' games, but have strong business or economic themes with the mechanics to back them up. From criminal underworlds and banana republics, to high-seas trading and taking commerce to the final frontier, here are ten tycoon games we think you should check out if you're looking to see what some of the better choices are in this space. We're likely to keep updating this list as we go, so make sure you check back regularly. RELATED LINKS: Port Royale 4 review, Best strategy games on PC, Best management games on PC |
PCGamesN Friday, January 7, 2022 12:08 PM Bungie's pinnacle PvP activity is back in rotation with a major revamp, and if you're looking for details on the Destiny 2 Trials rewards this week, you've come to the right place. Before you start working your way up through the ladder, you'll want to know what you're actually working for - so here's a breakdown of what's available each week, and what map you'll be playing on. If you're not familiar with Trials of Osiris, it's a weekly PvP challenge where you enter a competitive gauntlet of 3v3 elimination matches. Your rewards are now doled out with a reputation system, so it's not about pure wins anymore, but you will still get special rewards if you can manage to go flawless. Trials lands with the reset every Friday at 9am PST / 12pm EST / 5pm GMT, and lasts until the Tuesday reset at those same times. Each week provides a new set of rewards and a new map to play on, so here's what you can expect for the latest rotation. PCGamesN Friday, January 7, 2022 12:07 PM Xûr is Destiny 2's Exotic gear merchant. He appears every weekend to sell the game's most coveted items in exchange for Legendary shards, but if you're a casual player with limited shards to spend, it can be hard to know which of his wares is most worth your investment. That's where we come in. As of June 12, 2020, it appears that Xûr is back to providing random rolls - so the Exotic merchant is providing more excitement than he has in a long time. Xûr appears every Friday at 9am PST / 12pm EST / 5pm GMT, and will stick around until the Tuesday reset. We'll update this guide shortly after he arrives, so if you're reading this, you need only read on to learn where he is, and which are the best items he's selling this week. Now we're in Beyond Light territory, but Xûr's first appearances have been at the usual spots - so maybe don't expect too many surprises from the merchant in the new year of Destiny content. PCGamesN Friday, January 7, 2022 11:47 AM Streaming your favourite games on Twitch and YouTube is rewarding, but achieving the best streaming setup can be daunting. Not only do you have a bucket load of accessory specs to consider, but to get the most out of your webcam, you'll need to think about things like lighting and the best microphone for the job. Thankfully, a new streaming brand just launched that could help make getting started easy and affordable, and it has a clever name to boot. Branded as Streamplify, the new collection covers a lot of ground, whether you're a hobbyist or an aspiring professional. As the pun implies, the company's mission is to simplify content creation, whether you're on Twitch, making YouTube videos, or podcasting. Of course, cost is also a huge factor when it comes to game streaming gizmos, as specialist hardware comes at a premium price point. While you could just head to a random storefront and buy the cheapest, unbranded accessories listed, Streamplify's range aims to balance price and performance, meaning you can spend remarkably less and still maintain excellent quality. PCGamesN Friday, January 7, 2022 11:19 AM Before getting too excited about 2022's hardware releases such as Nvidia's RTX 4000 GPUs and AMD's Zen 4 CPUs, it's only right that we take the time to analyse and reflect on the last Steam Hardware Survey of 2021. December's data shows that the dominance of quad-core CPUs is slowly but surely coming to an end. The percentage of Steam users with quad-core processors has continued to decline since October 2021, but it wasn't until November 2021 that CPU core counts of six or more just about eclipsed that of five or less, at 50.54%. This has since jumped to 52.20% (+1.66) and it's likely that hexa-core chips will soon become the de facto spec of choice, accounting for 32.41% (+1.22) of rigs running Steam versus the 35.10% (-1.02) of quad-cores. This shift has been a long time coming, as quad-core CPUs have been around for just over fifteen years. That said, four cores is still plenty for the majority of the best PC games and could make a fantastic budget option with Intel's newly released low-mid level 12th gen Core chips. PCGamesN Friday, January 7, 2022 11:06 AM What are the best fighting games on PC? When the fighting game boom first took hold in the 90s, the genre was largely the domain of arcades. Since then, fighting games have mostly been on console, but now - finally - we're able to play most of the best fighting games on the planet on our home computers. Fighting games have a reputation for being tough to learn, but with the rise of video tutorials and guides on all the basics, there's never been a better time to get into this highly competitive genre. Even if you're a long way from competing at Evo, there are plenty of ways to enjoy these titles - from online Street Fighter matches to the robust single-player content of games like Injustice and Soulcalibur. We've focused on many of the most competitive games with the most active communities here, but you'll also find a few classics and curveballs in the mix. Get your fight stick, practice those fireballs, and get ready for the very best PC fighting games. RELATED LINKS: Dragon Ball FighterZ characters, DBFZ system requirements, Best fighting games |
PCGamesN Friday, January 7, 2022 11:02 AM Time to get out the paint kits, because planetary management game Dyson Sphere Program is adding some new cosmetic options this month. In an update due out January 20, the early access factory game will get customisation options for mecha, as well as some new structures and tools to help manage your stellar superstructures. The big new feature in the Icarus' Evolution update is mecha customisation. Developer Youthcat Studio doesn't go into a tonne of detail about the options you'll have for your in-game mecha, but says that you will be able to change its appearance - possibly with new skins, colour schemes, decals, and more. We'll find out when the update arrives. The update will also include some new structures to use for planetary exploitation, including the advanced mining machine and something called a proliferator. We don't know exactly what either of these things does, but safe to bet that the advanced mining machine extracts more complex materials from your planets, and the proliferator is something that makes a number go up quickly. |
PCGamesN Friday, January 7, 2022 11:00 AM Riot Games has now unveiled the full rundown of new League of Legends champion Zeri's abilities. Known as The Spark of Zaun, Zeri's a marksman champ all about "electric magic", which she uses to charge both herself and the gun she crafted from scratch, and a "lightning-fast approach to life", as per her short bio. We've seen her backstory and a champion trailer emerge this week, giving us a flavour of how she'll play, but now we can put all that into context with a good look at her ability kit. Zeri's Passive is Living Battery, which grants her move speed whenever she receives a shield. Damaging an enemy shield will let her absorb its energy, which then shields her. Her Q, Burst Fire, meanwhile, has passive and active elements. The former has her basic damage deal magic damage, it scales with ability power (AP), and is treated as an ability. "Moving and casting Burst Fire stores up energy in Zeri's Sparkpack," the ability explainer says. "When fully charged, her next basic attack will slow and deal bonus damage." The active element of her Q shoots a burst of seven rounds that dish out physical damage to the first enemy they hit. Burst Fire scales with attack damage (AD) and is treated as an attack, with the first round shot applying on-hit effects. The cooldown for this is the same as the champ's basic attack timer. PCGamesN Friday, January 7, 2022 10:52 AM What are the best adventure games? From 1976's text-based Adventure – that gave the genre its name – through the point-and-click golden age of the '90s and up to more modern fare, few genres have endured quite so well as the adventure game. That multi-decade lifespan has produced some of the most astounding titles, so it is certainly a struggle to narrow down a list of the best adventure games. Adventure games have prospered thanks to a focus on story and character. That, and a few tricky brain teasers, as opposed to violence set the genre apart. Characters usually get by through talking or thinking instead of resorting to fighting – though, Full Throttle protagonist Ben might have a few things to say about that. We frequently return to our lists to make sure they are as up-to-date as possible and represent the very best the genre has to offer, so you can be confident that what we list below are nothing less than classics. PCGamesN Friday, January 7, 2022 10:27 AM After a list of the best submarine games on PC? Submarine simulator games were reasonably popular back in the '90s, but if you're looking for new submarine games then your options are a lot more limited. If you're willing to go through all the hassle of making some of those '90s classics like Silent Hunter, Silent Service, and Aces of the Deep run on a modern PC then power to you. However, if you're looking for some more modern PC games with submarines then this list boasts plenty of solid sub battlers. Submarine games come in a few different shapes and forms, with some aiming to replicate the minutiae of everyday operations on a military vessel, while others focus on stalking battleships and landing the perfect torpedo strike. Submarine games are about much more than sinking other ships though, incorporating crew management, strategic use of resources, navigation skills, and good positioning if you and your crew want to return safely home. So join us as we lay out our list of some of the best submarine games to play on PC right now, from free-to-play multiplayer titans to early access FTL-likes. PCGamesN Friday, January 7, 2022 10:07 AM Looking for a list of the best vampire games on PC? It's all Christopher Lee's fault. Despite the best efforts of Bram Stoker, Max Schreck, and Stephenie Meyer in trying to make them look bad - everyone wants to be a vampire. As The Lost Boys pointed out, "Sleep all day. Party all night. Never grow old. Never die. It's fun to be a vampire." And as the videogame industry quickly realized, having supernatural powers of darkness is pretty cool too, which is why there are so many fun vampire games around. We'll be charting a course across aplenty of genres and decades to deliver our picks of the PC's top vampire games. So whether you prefer the power fantasy, roleplaying potential, or moral implications of being a vampire, we've got something to suit all tastes. Being able to jump really high, tear regular humans to shreds, use creepy magic powers, and replenish health by feasting on your enemies - all PC games should be vampire games. To that end, we've gone to the heart of Transylvania, to round up all the best vampire games on PC, but watch out - they bite. RELATED LINKS: Skyrim mods, Play Skyrim, Games like Skyrim |
PCGamesN Friday, January 7, 2022 9:12 AM What are the best crime games on PC? Videogames are, and have always been, all about fulfilling a fantasy. We step into virtual worlds to fight evil, slay monsters, grab sweet loot, or go to war online. They're a chance to do something we wouldn't usually do - and that includes crime games. With that in mind, games that focus on crime are popular for that very reason - they're (hopefully) not something you'd attempt in real life. Ever since RPG game Grand Theft Auto challenged players to earn as many Wanted stars as possible, gamers have been pushing the limits of reckless behaviour and general naughtiness. With that in mind, we've put together our list of the best crime games like GTA you can play - and we reckon at least one of them is sure to make you an offer you can't refuse. Between modern-day crime epics, online heists, fisticuffs in faraway places, and a trip back in time to criminal empires of yesteryear, we've got a little something for everyone. This new update deploys a lot of bug fixes to the sim, targeting areas such as abnormalities with the weather engine, sim crashes, VR issues, and some issues with different aircraft, just to name a few. The initial update is just under 1GB. It's exceptionally compact compared to the usual several gigs that Microsoft Flight Simulator updates have become infamous for being. PC Invasion - FeedDDD Friday, January 7, 2022 3:00 PM Gaming displays usually need to tick quite a few boxes before most top-performing gamers start to gain interest. High refresh rates, great picture quality, and low response times are just a few things that need to be present. The market's not short on high-end gaming displays either. During this past week alone we've seen the latest offerings such as Alienware's OLED 1440p monitor and HP's Omen 4K gaming display. Well, AOC's throwing its hat into the ring with the Agon Pro AG274QGM gaming monitor. AOC's newest display boasts some seriously good specs. PC Invasion - FeedDDD Friday, January 7, 2022 2:30 PM Ever since its September 2021 launch, New World has had a difficult time delivering a meaningful end-game experience. Many players who reach the end game are disappointed in how hollow and repetitive the grind can get. Thankfully, developer Amazon Game Studios is testing out a potential solution with Expedition Mutators being tested on the New World PTR servers. These modifiers make it possible for enemies to have different perks depending on the given week. The main advantage of this is that it would make expeditions less repetitive and more unpredictable. For example, the Eternal mutation gives enemies Void Resist II, making void-based damage a far weaker choice whilst active. The new end game The addition of Expedition Mutators allows for more difficult content to be introduced into New World. Harder content means an opportunity for the developers to add better rewards and drops, and that is exactly what Amazon Game Studios has done. Alongside modifiers, the PTR will intro... |

To make up for the delay, the Assassin's Creed Valhalla Yuletide event will now last until January 27. Valhalla has done a great job at keeping people invested by providing lots of new content.
