How to get Disney Dreamlight Valley Dream Shards

Disney Dreamlight Valley Dream Shards are one of the most valuable items you will need in the game. Like with most social or farming simulation games, you have to do a lot of grindy resource gathering in Dreamlight Valley, especially during the early stages. Some resources grow from trees or seeds, while others regenerate in your surroundings. Dream Shards are obtained in very specific ways, and are often limited. We've got more information on the different resources available in our Dreamlight Valley beginner's guide.

Since Dream Shards are not as renewable as other items in the Disney game, it helps to know where to find more of these pink crystals when you need them. Especially when they are a requirement in a number of character questlines. One of the earliest, Merlin's "A New Enchantment", teaches players how to craft Dreamlight from these shards, the valuable currency required to unlock biomes and realms, causing some players to convert all of their Dream Shards and being left with none for later quests.

like a dragon ishin

During the RGG Summit at the TGS 2022, Sega showed off the Ambush trailer for Like a Dragon: Ishin. At well over five minutes long, the trailer shows off the story and how familiar Kamurocho characters look like in the 1860s Japan. This is a remake of the 2014 original and uses the Unreal Engine.

This is not a game in the Yakuza, or Like a Dragon, main continuity. Rather, it is a separate story based on the real Bakumatsu era, with Yakuza characters appearing instead as key historical figures. While Soji Okita and Shinpachi Nagakura may look and act like Majima and Saejima, respectively, they are their own characters. You will not be playing as Kiryu, but a Ryoma Sakamoto, who just happen to looks exactly like him somehow.

You can view the Ambush trailer for Like a Dragon: Ishin! here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4wVSyxsUQHU

Some characters will look different in Like a Dragon: Ishin compared to the original. For example, Katsu Rintaro's counterpart will be Masato Arakawa from Yakuza: Like a Dragon, whereas he looked like Minoru Aoyama before. As Shunsuke Daito's Shigeki Baba was the counterpart of Like a Dragon: Ishin's Todo Heisuke, this change may have something to do with certain actors' contracts or availabilities.

In Like a Dragon: Ishin, you will be able to fight with your sword, your gun, or your fists. There is also a combat style where Ryoma wields both his sword and his gun at the same time. Heat actions will also make a return.

Like a Dragon: Ishin will come out in February 2023 for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC. Like a Dragon 8 and Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name are also in development.

Nintendo Switch Sports Golf

Golf is coming to Nintendo Switch Sports later this year. As previously announced, the Nintendo Direct on September 13, 2022, reconfirmed that the sport will be added as a free update to the game. The free golf update, originally slated for Fall 2022, is now slated for Holiday 2022.

In addition to narrowing the release window, Nintendo also detailed what golf will entail as part of the game. You can see all of the update's information in the video below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DAD4f0MWuCk

The Nintendo Switch Sports version of golf will include 21 holes from 2006's Wii Sports. It will offer a local play mode, as well as the new Survival Golf mode. Survival Golf is an online mode that pits up to 8 players against each other. Players will golf simultaneously on the same course, and the player who gets the most strokes will be eliminated.

Back in late July, Nintendo Switch Sports received its free Summer Update, which added a Leg-Strap Mode to Soccer and new moves to Volleyball, among other things. Nintendo also added a "cheat code" in August that unlocks the Legend difficulty for the sport it's used on. It even summons the infamous Matt to meet players in the Fencing ring.

Nintendo Switch Sports is available now for, you guessed it, the Nintendo Switch. The free Golf Update arrives in Holiday 2022.

Road To Gunpla Battle - Second Test

The real-to-virtual Gunpla scanning technology will have a broader test in Japan. Bandai Namco will hold the second test event for the Road To Gunpla Battle project in Shinjuku, Tokyo. It will set up a system that can scan a Gundam plastic model kit and generate a 3D movie with it.

The new test will support all SD Gundam and 1/144-scaled kits. The latter will include Entry Grade, High Grade, and Real Grade units. It will also allow custom colors and additional parts. In most cases, the total length of the posed kit must not exceed 170mm (~6.7 inches) in any dimension.

A participant will have around fifteen minutes to complete the whole process. After registering their Gunpla kit and selecting a situation, the organizer will give them five minutes to pose the model. The system will then scan the kit in three minutes. It will finish processing the movie in five minutes.

A trailer for the second Road To Gunpla Battle test is available to watch on Bandai Spirits' YouTube channel. It shows some examples of the movies that the system will generate during the test period.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VyOsPtwqVEg

Road To Gunpla Battle is a project from Bandai Namco that aims to realize a system where people can scan their own model kits and pilot them in the virtual world, as seen in the Gundam Build Divers anime and Gundam Build Real live-action drama. The first test took place in March 2022. It involved the generation of controllable 3D model data from the scanned Gunpla. While it supported custom colors, it was only available for unmodified kits of Gundam Helios and RX-78-2 Gundam.

The second test for the Road To Gunpla Battle project will commence at Gundam Next Future Tokyo Base in Shinjuku Sumitomo Building Sankaku Hiroba from September 29 to October 2, 2022.

The Sims Free To Play the sims 4 free-to-play ea release whenEA announced today that The Sims 4 will go free-to-play, following the F2P wave happening in most live service games nowadays. The Sims 4 was low on my list of games likely to go free-to-play, so this fun turn of events means I'll be able to live out my Sims dreams of raising a beautiful family only to trap them in a burning house. Of course, there are normal ways to play The Sims 4 as well, and you can just do that too. Starting on October 18, the base version of The Sims 4 will go free-to-play for all players. This means that console players, Epic Games fanatics, or Steam shoppers can download the game completely for free. This does not mean that the endless list of DLC options for the game is going free-to-play with it. That's a lot of DLC to buy individually, which can cost just about $984 if you get each pack individually on Steam.   A new free life Players who already own the base game will be rewarded, however.      Xbox App For Windows SplashMicrosoft is rolling out a new update to its Xbox App for Windows machines that brings improvements to the app's launch speed and overall performance. Perhaps the most interesting addition, however, is that players can now narrow down what their next game is going to be thanks to game length integration with HowLongtoBeat on the Xbox App. HowLongToBeat is a website that lets you check different statistics before jumping into a game. As the name suggests, it includes data on how long it requires to complete the main story, as well as other variables such as nabbing a full 100%, completing the main story with sidequests, and more. Now, the Xbox app has this info integrated right into a game's product page, giving you the rundown before you choose to install the game. Microsoft is also getting the community more involved to give overviews of their experience with each title. Thus, players can submit their own gameplay times for each title they've played, along with leavi...

Thus, here we are with the city builder's 11th major expansion in the seven years since it has been on the market. Today, the Cities: Skylines – Plazas & Promenades expansion released with a new focus. This time around, the focus is less on the cities and more on the citizens. This expansion introduces many new tools, fixtures, and buildings that are centered around increasing the well being of townsfolk by means of giving them more space to roam and enjoy themselves. This shakes up the gameplay aspects to a decent degree, as you're now encouraged to plan around incorporating these new citizen-focused areas into the city's design. In my time with the expansion, I can certainly see its potential, but honing that potential takes some coffee, plotting, and brainpower.   Extra legroom As established, the pur...

FIFA 23 ratings: the top rated players

The FIFA 23 player ratings signal the end of an era. For the first time since FIFA 07, neither Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo sit atop the summit, with cover star Kylian Mbappe standing tall as we head into EA's last 'FIFA' branded sports game before the license expires next season.

In truth, it's been coming. Both Messi and Ronaldo lost a certain spark after their 2021 moves to Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United respectively, despite quality individual returns. The beginning of Mbappe's reign is likely to underline a year of pretty significant change among the top 100 rated players - though do note this doesn't include the FIFA 23 icons or FUT Heroes. Here are the FIFA 23 ratings for the top players in the game.

Diablo Immortal whales in 'orb debt' will be banned from PvP

Some Diablo Immortal whales - players who have spent large sums of money on the fantasy game - will receive PvP bans after Blizzard revokes transactions made through third-party sellers. The community was introduced to the concept of Diablo Immortal orb debt after microtransaction purchases made for the free PC game through alternative vendors were removed from players' accounts, leaving them with negative Eternal Orb values.

Players left with a negative balance on their account are unable to join parties or participate in most group activities, including dungeons, elder rifts, and using the marketplace, until they have 'repaid' the value by purchasing additional Eternal Orbs through the in-game store. However, players were surprised to find that the restrictions didn't extend to most PvP activities such as Battlegrounds. This means that these players have been able to take advantage of their supposedly ill-gotten gains in competitive multiplayer modes. But that's all about to change.

Responding to a post on the game's subreddit, Diablo community manager Adam 'PezRadar' Fletcher says that the team has applied a hotfix "restricting these players from Battlegrounds and other PvP activities." It's unclear at the time of writing how widespread this restriction is and whether it extends to endgame activities such as the Diablo Immortal Rite of Exile, which determines who will become the active Immortals faction on a server. We have reached out to Blizzard for additional details, and will update if we hear more specifics.

The best Tower of Fantasy King build

Looking for the best Tower of Fantasy King build? This self-serving, money-hungry merc is highly coveted in Hotta Studio's breakout anime game, and for good reason. Boasting the highest Shatter stat of any Tower of Fantasy character currently available, his deadly Scythe of the Crow excels at pulling large groups of enemies within range to tear through shields in record time. If a hyper-aggressive playstyle that pairs fast-paced melee combat with a fiery area-of-effect (AoE) passive sounds appealing, then King is the simulacrum for you.

It's hard to go wrong while playing as King, but our Tower of Fantasy King build will identify the best matrices, weapon advancements and awakening traits to maximise the effects of his primary weapon stats. It's important to clarify that Tower of Fantasy's build management differs from what you might expect in a typical RPG game. As their name suggests, simulacra serve to represent the owners of Tower of Fantasy weapons, and as such their customisation is limited. That being said, let's get into our Tower of Fantasy King build.

How to upgrade your house in Disney Dreamlight Valley

You need to upgrade your Disney Dreamlight Valley house to increase your room sizes and storage capacity, something that is not as straightforward as you'd expect in a life sim. No, there's no Tom Nook pressuring you into taking more debt, but there is another money-obsessed character to add to your humble abode - Scrooge McDuck.

One of the great things about this Disney game is that you are not restricted to a specific route of progression - you can choose to unlock movie realms in any order, and you can befriend and carry out challenges for the many Dreamlight Valley characters as quickly or slowly as you'd like. Be careful not to neglect ol' Scrooge though, or you may find yourself walking around the valley with pockets full of rocks. If that sounds like you, keep reading to find out how to unlock your Dreamlight Valley home upgrade options.

Disney Dreamlight Valley crudites and fish sandwich recipes

Disney Dreamlight Valley crudites are an important aspect in rescuing Minnie Mouse from the Forgetting, as is the recipe for fish sandwiches - apparently raw vegetables and fried fish are good in a crisis. While this Disney game is predominantly a life sim, and our Dreamlight Valley guide for beginners can help with that aspect, there's an important story at hand too, as some familiar faces have been lost to the Forgetting - Minnie included.

Getting to know Mickey Mouse better through his Missing Minnie quest, you learn that he's missing his sweetheart, but you can cheer him up by doing one of Minnie's favourite things - having a picnic. Any good picnic needs good food, so you must rustle up two of the cute mouse's favourites: crudites and fish sandwiches. Mickey won't just give you the recipe though, you'll have to figure it out yourself - just like the Disney Dreamlight Valley ratatouille recipe. If you're struggling, here's how to make Disney Dreamlight Valley crudites and fish sandwiches.

Next Yakuza game Like a Dragon 8 stars both Kiryu and Kasuga

The next Yakuza game is called Like a Dragon 8 and will feature dual protagonists, with Yakuza 7 lead Ichiban Kasuga retaining the spotlight alongside a returning Kazuma Kiryu. Details for the new game were unveiled at the Ryu ga Gotoku Summit broadcast on the SEGA Twitch channel. Also featured was remake Like a Dragon: Ishin Kiwami, which will see the much-anticipated Edo period spin-off of the series finally arrive in western territories for the first time since its original 2014 release in Japan.

According to on-stage interviews at the event featuring several of the game's cast and developers, Kazuma Kiryu and Ichiban Kasuga will share the limelight as twin protagonists for the next Like a Dragon game, which has now officially transitioned from its previous 'Yakuza' branding to adopt the long-running Japanese 'Like a Dragon' moniker across the board.

Like a Dragon 8 will retain the turn-based RPG game style of the previous entry, and Kiryu is planned to have his own separate party - as well as a brand new silver fox hairstyle. Takaya Kuroda, who is returning once more to voice the iconic character, says that the reason for Kiryu's new look will be revealed at a later date.

Deathverse Let it Die

Let It Die still lives on, but like many things hard to kill, it's back in a new form: Deathverse: Let It Die. Where the previous game was a sort of hybrid of single-player action game and a "roguelite" run-based dungeon-crawler, this one's squarely focused on multiplayer. They're also both free-to-play, though upon cursory examination Deathverse's model is a much better fit, informed by several years of testing what works and what doesn't in the live-game space. I got some time with an in-progress multiplayer build of the game, and played a few sessions with members of the dev team at Supertrick Games and staff at GungHo Online Entertainment recently. Though I came in with few expectations, I came away from the experience appreciating its lively aesthetic and even a bit of hope for its chances in a crowded field.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RhUl22KG_g8

In essence, Deathverse is a battle royal game. Its structure will be familiar to anyone who's brushed up against a PUBG or a Fortnite. Players jump into a session, and are deposited on the map to try to survive to become the last one standing. Various mechanisms shrink the play area over time, forcing players to confront each other, eventually resulting in a winner. Sprinkle in some RPG-style progression and you've got a game that folks can play for many sessions. Unlike the PUBGs and Fortnites of the world, though, Deathverse is focused on melee combat. Its combat distance and general model are derived from the original Let It Die, but the controls are a bit simplified. You pick one of five types of weapons, and are fully armed when you drop in. In the build we played, every weapon was unlocked, with a total of 15 weapons (3 variations on 5 archetypes) available at launch. When the game launches fully, more weapons will need unlocking via progression.

The selection was pretty eclectic. Each weapon variant has a special attack and an "ultimate", and these are different between individual variants, allowing for diversity even within weapons of the same basic type. You had a machete, which chops and stabs in short, easily controlled strikes, or a Katana, which has a long reach and can counter enemy attacks. Gauntlets can deliver rapid attacks, while heavy hammers can sweep large areas. Finally, the buzzsaws can rev up to deliver damage, and can even be used to "ride" up vertical walls for quick traversal. You can also equip sub-abilities picked up on the field to grant special powers, like invisibility. Everyone also has an energy shield they can use to defend from attacks, or to send out a ranged bolt of energy. I gave each weapon a try, and gravitated a lot to the hammers thanks to their wide areas of effect. They're particularly useful because the third-person melee combat can get pretty hectic once more than two players are in the mix, so it's nice to be able to just yell "Screw it!" and start spinning around in a huge circle, hurting everything in reach.

Each map in Deathverse is divided into zones, which become "corrupted" over time. The zones are kind of like nodes, so rather than a smoothly collapsing circle of territory like in FortniteDeathverse puts each area on a countdown before it becomes uninhabitable, funneling players towards a "Showdown Zone". The Showdown Zone is a pretty exciting place to end a match. Once it gets closed in with a few players remaining, the walls fall away to reveal a huge arena full of cheering spectators. Everyone in Deathverse is participating in a game show called "Death Jamboree", competing for glory and prizes. The tone of the presentation is slick and cynical, combining a glossy retro-futurism with a grindhouse world of rusty blades and polished ray-guns. It works for me, and Deathverse's twisted world felt like Smash TV for serial killers from the Gilded Age. It helps that the character models look slick and nicely realized. The game is, narratively speaking, a sequel to Let It Die, technically taking place centuries after the original game, but I'll be honest: I didn't play enough of Let It Die to even remember what that game's story was, so I can't really speak as to any narrative connections.

In a given match, your enemies are more than just the 15 other contestants in the arena with you. The areas are also filled with Cryptids, wandering creatures that range from harmless to intimidating. You'll want to fight a few to build up your "Voltage" (your health), but be careful about getting distracted - a player might take the chance to sneak up on you for a quick kill.

And then there are the Hunters. At once per match, Deathverse unleashes a Hunter: A very powerful NPC that targets players in an attempt to spice things up for the audience. There are three Hunters available at launch: Codename Q, D, and M. Each also behaves entirely differently. Hunter Q is a standard melee-ranged beast. She chases down any player she finds and lays into them with custom fist weapons. The other two Hunters are more unique. Hunter D is a sniper, and targets one player alone with a highly visible target marker and laser sight. Let the marker count down, and D executes you with a precision gunshot. But you can lose your mark by attacking the other player, kind of like playing "Tag, you're It!". Time things right and you can get D to execute someone else instead.

Hunter M is the most entertaining. M starts in a match as a harmless floating UFO creature that players can shoot down. Shoot M down and you become the Hunter, your face covered with an alien tentacle slug and your body bulked up like a JoJo's Bizarre Adventure character, posing constantly to deflect weapon attacks. As M, you have almost unlimited health, but a very limited countdown. Your job is to kill another player before the countdown ends, or else you explode instead. Hunters will rotate on a weekly basis throughout Deathverse's seasons, and more will be added over time.

The big question mark remains over the economy of Deathverse as a free-to-play game. Developer Supertrick and GungHo are leaning into a battlepass-like system called a "Jamboree Pass", that unlocks cosmetics like weapon and character skins with progression. There are lots of cosmetic options available, with many interesting costumes , projections to put a decoration on your energy shield, accessories for your little "Wilson" buddy-drone, and even items for your personal room. Players can also earn a number of unlocks freely, through a crafting system that uses materials scavenged in the arena. Deathverse supports matchmade competitive multiplayer, a no-progression exhibition mode, and "room code"-based matches. The room code system seems useful if you're planning to stream, as it'll allow you to play with selected people like a group of friends or viewers. That said, you'll need to purchase the "Platinum"-tier Jamboree Pass to host room-coded games.

All in all, Deathverse: Let It Die is an easy game to pick up as an alternative to overly gun-focused battle royal titles. It's also got a unique sense of style and humor that makes it stand out against the drab hyperrealism and the somewhat sanitized cartoon aesthetic of the leading players. Only time will tell if it's got the legs to make it in the long-term, but my own (very) short time with it felt like a welcome change of pace.

Deathverse is due for PS4 and PS5 on September 28, 2022, and October 5 on PC via Steam.

Lost Judgment PC

[Update: Judgment and Lost Judgment on PC are available right now. We've updated the article to reflect the adjusted date.]

It's always good news when a major Japanese console game release makes it to PC. However, older gamers know to view such announcements with a bit of wariness, as it wasn't that long ago that the PC editions of Japanese games were, at best, a bit of a hit-or-miss prospect with regards to functionality and performance. Sega and RGG Studio appear to have put another nail in that era's coffin, though, if the Judgment games on PC are anything to go by.

I received early access to the PC ports of Judgment and Lost Judgment, and they've made a good impression so far. Keep reading for some answers to your potential questions about Judgment and Lost Judgment on PC.

Judgment on PC

How do I get the Judgment games on PC, and how much do they cost?

Both Judgment and its sequel Lost Judgment launch on PC on September 15, 2022. They'll be available via Steam, and join other RGG Studio titles such as Yakuza: Like A DragonYakuza Kiwami and Kiwami 2, Yakuza 0, Yakuza 6, and the Yakuza Remastered Collection.

  • Judgment Digital Standard Edition is available for $39.99 USD
  • Lost Judgment Digital Standard Edition costs $59.99 USD, and includes the School Stories Expansion Pack.
    • The Kaito Files DLC is sold separately for $29.99 USD
  • There's also a Digital Deluxe Bundle that includes both games and all the DLC for $98.87 USD
    • Includes Judgment, Lost Judgment, School Stories, and The Kaito Files

For my testing Sega granted me access to a for-media build that was identical to the Digital Deluxe Bundle. That bundle at least, may include the optional "Pack" DLC released for the games on consoles. For example, after checking my mailbox at the start of Judgment, I received the items from the Detective Life Fun Pack, Play Spot Fun Pack, Ultimate Battle Pack, and Girlfriend Present Pack.

Similarly, I noticed that my test of Lost Judgment included access to the optional "Detective Essentials Pack" DLC, which adds additional girlfriend characters, extract recipes, fur colors for the detective dog, and other benefits.

Cat

So what's the Judgment series even about? Are they Yakuza spin-offs?

Technically, the Judgment games are a new series, and stand apart from the Yakuza franchise. However, they're set in the same world and often the same locations, so there's plenty of intersection and common elements to be found. The Judgment games are also where the brawling and action-adventure style of gameplay that characterized the seven main Yakuza titles was preserved, since Yakuza: Like A Dragon took up the turn-based strategy style.

The series star is Takayuki Yagami (Takuya Kimura), a former defense attorney, now a private investigator. Yagami once worked at the Genda Law Office, and gained notoriety for successfully defending a client in a murder case. This is unusual because, as the game states in its intro, outcomes in Japan's criminal justice system overwhelmingly favor prosecution. 99.9% of cases end with a guilty verdict. Unfortunately, Yagami's successful case led to an unjust outcome, leading him to leave the lawyering life and bring justice in his own way - while struggling to keep up with the bills.

In Judgment, Yagami gets caught up in a mysterious string of serial killings of Yakuza in Kamurocho. The sequel, Lost Judgment, ropes Yagami into a high-profile murder where the defense lawyer, Saori Shirosaki, is convinced that crucial details have been overlooked. Lost Judgment also has Yagami infiltrating a high school to investigate bullying allegations. The game received The Kaito Files, an expansion starring Yagami's partner, ex-Yakuza Masaharu Kaito. In The Kaito Files, Kaito takes on a case in Yagami's absence, one that turns both uncomfortably personal and unexpectedly high-stakes.

On a personal note, I enjoyed Judgment and Lost Judgment quite a bit, and on their own merits. They're different from Yakuza, for sure. Yagami and Kaito aren't as overtly silly as Kiryu and Ichiban, who are big galoots with hearts of gold. But all the games were made with RGG Studio's keen grasp of cinema, and deliver in spades on both drama and storytelling. I understand if you do end up preferring your Yakuza faves, but they're well worth playing anyway. For Siliconera's official word, check out our review of Lost Judgment.

How do the Judgment games on PC actually play? What are the minimum and recommended system requirements?

They play quite well so far! I haven't finished them, since they're pretty large titles that I owned on PS4, but I did spend a few hours with each to get a feel for performance on my main PC rig.

You can check the minimum system requirements for Judgment on its Steam page. The Steam page for Lost Judgment is here.

For reference, this is the system I used to play both games.

OS: Windows 11
GPU: Nvidia GTX 3070
RAM: 16GB RAM
CPU: Intel Core i7 3.0Ghz
Install Size: Judgment (33.3 GB), Lost Judgment (56.8 GB)

In testing, Judgment appears to be based on the PS5 version of the game, rather than the PS4 version. It includes some of the graphical tweaks present for the remaster.

As I don't have a 4K monitor, I ran both games at 1080p (1920 x 1080 resolution). On my machine it ran at a locked 60 fps according to the GeForce Experience's built-in framerate counter. Lost Judgment did the same. I didn't encounter any performance dips while running in Borderless mode, either.

Both games support graphical settings tweaks, including for resolution, anti-aliasing, shadow, texture, and geometry quality, reflections, motion blur, screen space ambient occlusion (SSAO), volumetric fog,  and even render scale (where you can customize the actual rendering resolution of the game to improve performance or quality). The games support AMD FidelityFX features, like Super Resolution and Sharpness, but I couldn't test those as I have an Nvidia GPU. Monitor options also support higher framerates on 120hz monitors.

Do I need a gamepad to play Judgment on PC?

Though the opening screen has a cheeky "Real Detectives Use A Gamepad" message on it, both Judgment and Lost Judgment on PC support mouse-and-keyboard controls, and allow you to rebind keys. They also support various gamepads, including a wired PS5 DualSense, an Xbox One Gamepad, and a wired Dualshock4. In a nice touch that I don't see often enough, the prompts changed seamlessly from keyboard, to PlayStation buttons, to Xbox buttons in real time as I switched controllers and inputs. Useful if you like to multitask.

That said, I still don't recommend going full keyboard-mouse if you're able to use a gamepad. The game and animations are tuned for gamepad use, so while moving on keyboard with the mouse controlling the camera, movement felt sluggish and delayed, while the camera jittered every time my hand moved even slightly. It was enough to trigger some mild motion sickness during a fight.

"Real Detectives", indeed.

Judgment and Lost Judgment are available on PC via Steam. They're also available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.

Like A Dragon Gaiden

Kazuma Kiryu just can't get away from the life, it seems. RGG Studio announced a new game with him at the center during its RGG Summit livestream. Called Like A Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, it'll tell the story of Kiryu's mindset following the events of Yakuza 6: The Song of Life (aka Like A Dragon 6). That game was supposed to be an end to Kiryu's saga, but it seems that life and game developers had other plans. Like A Dragon Gaiden may also explain why Kiryu is present in Like A Dragon 8, and possibly why he looks the way he does in that game's announcement trailer.

Check out the announcement trailer for Like A Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fxkn-dcy01k

The trailer opens Daidoji Temple, where a man who used to be Kazuma Kiryu meditates in the summer heat. He's approached by a Buddhist monk, and rapped on the shoulder with a Keisaku (the "wake up" stick used in Zen meditation). He's chastised for his remaining attachments, even though he's taken the Buddhist name "Joryu", and attempted to leave the world behind. But things just happen so much, and The Man Who Erased His Name, "Codename Joryu," still has a job to do.

According to discussion at the RGG Summit, Like A Dragon Gaiden won't be as large as a full-scale Like A Dragon/Yakuza game. The team estimates it'll be about "half the size" and be more focused narratively. It takes place between Yakuza 6 and Like A Dragon 8, so it acts as a sort of prequel for Kiryu's role in the next main game.

Like A Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name is in development, with a 2023 release window. It'll launch on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Valkyrie Elysium Demo

For some fans of Valkyrie Profile, the most exciting thing about Valkyrie Elysium is the fact that the Digital Deluxe editions of the game on PS4 and PS5 come with a copy of Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth, a port of the 1999 original game. It's kind of like when people were excited for Zone of the Enders because the game came with a demo disc for Metal Gear Solid 2.

I get where they're coming from: This pack-in is tied to something older and beloved, and naturally inspires more positive feelings than something new and unproven. That being said, Zone of the Enders turned out to be quite alright on its own merits, with or without that MGS2 incentive. And after a couple of hours with the Valkyrie Elysium demo on PS5, I'm pleased to say that it might just be a similar scenario here.

Square Enix gave me access to the same demo that the public will be able to download on September 15, 2022. Barring a last-minute patch, that means this demo build is identical to what you'll see tomorrow, content-wise. The demo will also be available on PS4. It contains the game's intro, tutorial, and first story mission. Progress made in the Valkyrie Elysium demo will carry over to the full game, as well, so fans can consider it a bit of a head start before the game launches fully on September 29, 2022.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0QWxP3iFmvs

Some might be wondering just how the game is connected to Valkyrie Profile. If this new game has any explicit connections beyond its general inspiration in Norse mythology, the Valkyrie Elysium demo doesn't surface them. I'm not even fully sure your Valkyrie is even named "Lenneth" this time, as all the in-game text just refers to her as "Valkyrie".  The scenario is also slightly different this time around. Where the first game had Lenneth gathering up souls in preparation for Ragnarok, in Elysium, Ragnarok is already under way. A great war between Odin and Fenrir has ended in a bloody stalemate, after the All-Father and the dire wolf mortally wounded each other in battle. Now Odin is stuck in Valhalla, the last place untouched by the spreading calamity. Most of the rest of the world, Midgard and Asgard included, has been swallowed up. You, as the Valkyrie, wake up into the midst of an apocalypse in slow motion, and your task is to save what remains.

[gallery link="file" ids="935375,935376,935377,935378,935379,935380"]

There's not much explicit storytelling to be found in the Valkyrie Elysium demo, but what is there strongly resonates with the melancholy, downbeat tone of the original. For the first story mission, your Valkyrie is assigned to "purify" a lost soul somewhere in the Be'elze Kingdom. You need to fight your way through the roaming undead to get there, and after an hour or two of tromping through hostile territory, you fight a large boss, the fly-like Naglfar. Purifying the Naglfar's essence frees the human soul within, a man named Eygon, once a mercenary in service to this fallen kingdom. Beyond that, you can pick up little bits of flavor text in the environment by picking up "Hollow Blossom" collectibles. The menu helpfully tracks that stuff, so you know what you might have missed.

It remains to be seen how the game will evoke the classic Valkyrie Profile structure. In the original game, much of the story took place in flashbacks retelling a character's history before they joined Lenneth as Einherjar. The trailers so far hint at deeper cutscenes and more dramatic moments, but how players will get to those points isn't really present in the demo.

Valkyrie Elysium Odin

If the Valkyrie Elysium demo is light on plot, it's got a decent taster for the game's character action-style combat system. You control the Valkyrie at all times, and can summon her equipped Einherjar. You can equip four, but only two can be active alongside you at the same time. Your summoning's limited by your Soul Gauge, but that can be topped off by defeating enemies. The Einherjar act like NPCs on the battlefield, engaging foes at will. You can also add elemental energy to the Valkyrie's attacks based on the Einherjar you summon. That's key in most battles, as filling an enemy's "Elemental Crush" gauge by hitting its weaknesses stuns it and leaves it vulnerable. Without Einherjar, the Valkyrie has to rely on Divine Arts (read: combat spells) to inflict elemental damage.

As such, before you get your first Einherjar, fighting mixed foes as a solo Valkyrie feels like swinging a sword stuck in its scabbard: Inefficient. Einherjar are also key to solving traversal puzzles. One equipped character could form ice bridges to cross a gap, and another could destroy large rocks. The Valkyrie also has the "Soul Chain", which is basically an enchanted grappling hook. The Soul Chain can target faraway enemies and send the Valkyrie flying at them. It's a great way to close distances, and keeps the pace of combat speedy. Fighting bigger enemies is also easier with it, as you can Soul Chain to their weak spot to unleash aerial combos.

Enemies in Valkyrie Elysium also have their own elemental and weapon weaknesses, encouraging you to swap between different weapons, spells and Einherjar loadouts regularly. The Valkyrie Elysium demo unlocks two weapons, your standard sword and a faster, rapier-like "Bolverkr". Progression is similar to the RPG-like systems of many character action titles. You gather up gems from defeated enemies, and use them to pay for upgrades from a skill tree. Skill trees unlock a mix of passive bonuses (like extra health) and enhancements to core abilities (like a double-jump). You can also enhance your weapons to extend combos and unlock new moves.

Valkyrie Elysion

All of this takes place against some really good character models. The Valkyrie Profile games have always struggled to have their in-game graphics match the peerless character design work used for its 2D sprites and concept art, and I'd say that the Valkyrie Elysium demo comes the closest to landing that elusive match.

My one gripe is a somewhat unsightly black "outline" used as a visual effect on most character and environment objects. I figure it was made to make the animations easier to read (the game's color palette is somewhat undersaturated), but I think it makes the graphics look a bit "grimy" in a way that doesn't suit the modeling and shader work.

Valkyrie Elysium

While more of Valkyrie Elysium's legacy will be determined in my mind by how its storytelling plays out, I'd say its initial impressions are solid so far. So long as you're not looking for something exactly the same as the original Valkyrie Profile, the Valkyrie Elysium demo shows off a warrior maiden worth welcoming.

Valkyrie Elysium demo launches on PS4 and PS5 on September 15, 2022. The full game launches on PS4 and PS5 on September 29, 2022, and on PC via Steam on November 12, 2022. Purchases of the PS4 edition will have a free upgrade to the PS5 edition, and the Digital Deluxe editions of the PS4/PS5 versions come with a copy of Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth.

Like A Dragon 8

It looks like the Yakuza franchise is officially getting renamed outside Japan. The sequel to Yakuza: Like A Dragon (aka Ryu Ga Gotoku 7) now has an official title of Like A Dragon 8. This brings it into line with the actual Japanese title of the franchise, as well as its numbering conventions.

Sega and developer RGG Studio announced the change (and the game) officially at the RGG Summit livestream on September 14, 2022. The game is still a long way from completion - staff onstage said that the recording of voice lines hasn't even begun. Its current release window is set for 2024.

Check out the cinematic announcement trailer below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJhqN7R_oAg

The Like A Dragon 8 announcement trailer opens with Kamurocho's now-iconic gateway, as Yakuza: Like A Dragon (Like A Dragon 7) protagonist Ichiban Kasuga walks toward the camera. Voice lines from characters in the game play over the footage, and Ichiban is joined by a second figure. It turns out to be Kazuma Kiryu himself, though now sporting a much different, silver-dyed head of hair. The team said the reason for the makeover is a secret, for now. The two will be played by their respective voice actors, with Kazuhiro Nakaya returning as Ichiban, and Takaya Kuroda as Kiryu.

During the RGG Summit presentation, the development team mentioned that Like A Dragon 8 will feature two protagonists: Ichiban and Kiryu. They likened it to the story of Yakuza 0 (Like A Dragon 0), where both Majima and Kiryu had equal parts to play in the narrative. "It'll be more complicated than that, though,", said RGG Studio Executive Producer Masayoshi Yokoyama. The game will also be "the largest Like A Dragon game to date".

Like A Dragon 8 (aka Ryu Ga Gotoku 8, Yakuza 8, or Yakuza: Like A Dragon 2) is in development for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. It has a 2024 release window. The previous game is currently available on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.

Pacific Drive Game Gameplay Pacific Northwest Ironwood StudiosPacific Drive was one of the more intriguing games announced during last night's PlayStation State of Play. Ironwood Studios' upcoming title is a first-person driving survival game that releases in 2023. And we don't mean driving is a core mechanic like in most other survival games. In Pacific Drive, driving is nearly the entire game. This is My Summer Car in an apocalyptic setting. To add more fuel to the fire, Pacific Drive is also a rogue-lite of sorts. Each run will challenge you to go as far as possible as you try to reach the heart of the Olympic Exclusion Zone. To get there, you'll have to overcome the worst of what the Pacific Northwest has to offer. From dense forests to thunderstorms to strange unidentified lifeforms, it's going to be a rough ride.   Between runs you'll have to repair and upgrade your car to prepare for what's to come.      Judgment Coming To Pc 1Last year, it was reported that the Judgment series could very well end due to a talent agency not wanting their client's likeness to be used in PC games. Thankfully, that rationale has apparently been thrown out the window, as Judgment and Lost Judgment are both being released on PC via Steam tomorrow, September 15. Yes, you'll be able to pick up both games on the same day. I'm not sure how everything came together, but I'm very glad it did. Judgment is a fantastic time, and fans who lacked access were really missing out. Judgment and its sequel can be bought individually or as part of a bundle on Steam. The original game will run you $39.99 USD, while Lost Judgment costs $59.99 USD. Lost Judgment comes with the School Stories expansion pack by default. The Kaito Files DLC that came to Lost Judgment will, however, cost an extra $29.99 USD on top of the main game.   There's actually a much better deal available, though. You can pick up both ...

Judgment Pc Review 1I had been waiting for a PC release to jump into Judgment. The announcement finally came, or so I thought, but it ended up being for the game's Stadia launch. Turns out there was some issue where the lead actor's talent agency didn't want Judgment on PC. Well, that's apparently been taken care of. I was under the impression that the game was notably different from the Yakuza series that it's spun off from, as it stars a detective rather than a criminal (former or otherwise). It isn't all that different at all, actually, but this is an excellent PC port of an excellent game that's a great time despite mostly being another Yakuza title. Judgment stars Takayuki Yagami, a former lawyer. After he got an alleged serial killer set free for a string of murders, said serial killer (allegedly) turned right around and murdered his girlfriend before (allegedly) setting their apartment on fire. Horrified, Yagami quits the law and decides to become a p...
