2018's A Quiet Place film kicked off the ongoing horror franchise that is all about deadly alien monsters invading Earth and hunting down anything that makes too much noise, forcing humanity to be very quiet at all times or die. Bloober's Silent Hill 2 remake is a damn respectable retelling of a horror masterpiece. It's grim, it's moody, it's empathetic to the very human atrocities at its dark heart. What is the best MMORPG on PC? If you're wondering, those oft-used letters represent the words Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game and refer to games where thousands of players come together in the same world.      Two years after it went silent, mysterious FPS game ILL comes back from the dead

The environments look like the bombed-out, post-apocalyptic ruins of Fallout 4's version of Boston. Combat meanwhile is slow-paced - the number of enemies seems low - but infused with the same oozing, dripping body horror characterized by Half-Life's headcrab zombies. It's not about feeling powerful, it's about survival. You clutch a revolver and try to contact the outside world - someone, anyone - using your puny shortwave radio. If you told me this was a first-person mod for one of Capcom's Resident Evil remakes, at first glance, I'd be fooled. Two years since footage was last shared on its official channels, and two years since its creator posted on the formal social media account, the highly mysterious horror FPS game ILL is suddenly back from the dead.

Open-world games shouldn't be a glorified checklist.      New AMD Ryzen gaming CPUs are coming for your old motherboard, says leak

Owners of old AMD AM4 motherboards appear to have been given yet another upgrade option, despite AMD now being two generations into its newer AM5 socket, with the arrival of the Ryzen 5 5600XT, Ryzen 5 5600, and Ryzen 3 5300G. Although not officially unveiled yet, the new AMD Ryzen chips have appeared in motherboard CPU support listings and other leaks, showing that AMD is set to continue supplying new AM4 gaming CPUs for a while yet.

What's particularly surprising about the apparently imminent arrival of new AMD AM4 CPUs is that the supply of some AM4 chips, such as the previous best gaming CPU entrant, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, appears to be drying up. So while plenty of CPU options remain for owners of AM4 motherboards, it's still surprising to see even more brand-new models announced.

How do CS2 skins work? CS2 skins alter the appearance of weapons, gloves, and knives, giving players the chance to show off their library of digital assets. Returning Counter-Strike players were worried that their CSGO skins weren't going to transfer over to CS2, but Valve quelled any fears when it officially announced the game in March 2023.

Owning Counter-Strike 2 skins isn't just about making a fashion statement. It's about putting your mark on your implements of death. It's about showing off your expertise, and, occasionally, selling on for a decent profit - maybe just wait for the skin prices to calm down a little before you decide on investing too much. Now that the Counter-Strike 2 release date is finally here, this is everything you need to know about CS2 skins before you jump in.

New Victoria 3 DLC takes you to India, alongside the free 1.8 update

Paradox Interactive is home to some of the biggest grand strategy games out there. You can go medieval with Crusader Kings 3, take a step into the future with Stellaris, or go back to WW2 in Hearts of Iron 4. Paradox has made the historical grand strategy niche completely its own, but Victoria 3, the occasionally maligned sequel from 2022, remains underappreciated. The 19-century-set sequel didn't quite shake the Earth like Paradox's other games, but over the last couple of years it's been quietly improving. I forgot about just-launched horror game Tormenture when ravelling together this week's round-up of potent PC releases, but thankfully, Maw disciple Fachewachewa was on my case in the comments. It's one of your 'cursed video game' videogames in the spirit of Inscryption and Pony Island, and based on a quick blast with the demo, it seems lush.

It's set in the 1980s, a premise I now automatically find horrible because I was born in the 1980s and that was, like, a million years ago. You're a kid who's playing a legendary 8-bit game that's said to be possessed by evil spirits. The experience sees you alternating between the surprisingly labyrinthine space of the game, and the increasingly threatening environment of your bedroom, where terrible toys abound. Did you have one of those phones on wheels with eyes as a kid? Whoever invented that deserves a spell in Arkham Asylum.

Not many people hit the refund button on Sonar Shock, the indie immersive sim that's rated Very Positive on Steam. But those that do tend to complain they couldn't get the hang of the controls. You can understand why. Try to strafe left to dodge an attack from a blubber monster, and you'll instead rotate on the spot. Attempt to turn the camera with a flick of the mouse, and you'll discover that your view remains fixed in place - the cursor moving across the screen as if searching for an icon on your desktop.

"The controls are actually one of the biggest points that make people bounce off the game," developer Raphael Bossniak admits.

And yet they're also a unique selling point. Where last year's extraordinary System Shock remake embraced the interface and keyboard conventions of modern gaming, Sonar Shock leans into the experimentation of pre-Quake control schemes - long before WASD and mouselook became standardised for the sake of ease and sanity.

Square Enix released an official interview with Ben Starr going over his role as Clive Rosfield and experience working on Final Fantasy XVI. In it, he brought up how he worked on the game for four years and what that process was like. He also brought up what it was like meeting Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Tifa voice actress Britt Baron after having shown himself dressed up as the character online.

After bringing up how he spent four years working on Final Fantasy XVI, Starr brought up how initially it was about working on the game. However, after that he discussed how his role led to him becoming something of an ambassador for the series.

Here's the full statement from the Square Enix interview with Ben Starr about Final Fantasy XVI:

"There was the secret period of me working on it with my friends. Well, colleagues who then became really close friends.

And then I had the year that it came out.

And now it's kind of basking in the glow, the glory of having survived that year, because it was just so intense. I threw myself into it, maybe unhealthily so. But I did that because I really loved it. I saw that this is an amazing opportunity, and they don't really come around very often.

I'm really glad I survived at the other end, and this sounds silly, but it was a lot. It was a lot of responsibility to become a kind of figurehead for a game and then by proxy a franchise as well. Because I really loved talking not just about Final Fantasy XVI, but Final Fantasy as a whole - and celebrating it.

I was turning up to award ceremonies in Final Fantasy VIII T-Shirts. I turned up to the Game Awards with my favorite Final Fantasy party on it. I wanted to at all points feel like I could be a vector for this franchise, for people to experience this franchise and almost give them permission to talk about the things they love.

I wanted to be very front-faced in the video game community and say: 'Final Fantasy is cool, let's talk about it.'

Yes, my favorite is Final Fantasy VIII, but I want people to feel like they can share their love of Terra or Vivi, or Rydia or… whoever you love, you should be able to love them in the way that you love them.

If I can be the person who's opening the door for someone to talk about it, then let's go!

But that's a lot of pressure to take on and I felt like I put that on myself. But now, a bit like Thanos at the end of Infinity War, I can relax a little bit and it's all been worth it (laughs)."

As for his encounter with Britt Baron after dressing as Tifa from Final Fantasy VII, Ben Starr joked about meeting her after. He said after sharing the photo of himself cosplaying, "I actually messaged Britt a couple of days afterwards apologizing!" He also raved about some of the cast members from Rebirth, as he said, "So Britt's amazing, and so is Brianna White (Aerith) and Suzie Yeung (Yuffie) - I got to spend time with them. And John Bentley (Barret) is one of the most outgoing, charismatic individuals I've ever met in my life!"

Following his role as Clive Rosfield in Final Fantasy XVI, Ben Starr appeared in other video games. Most recently, he was revealed as the voice actor for Prometheus in Hades 2. When Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 releases in 2025, we'll hear him as Verso. He's also shared a number of joke videos, memes, and photos on social media.

Final Fantasy XVI is available for the PS5 and PC.

Metal Slug Tactics Release Date and Ikari Warriors Revealed

Dotemu finally revealed the release date for Metal Slug Tactics, the strategy game that not only stars characters and Slugs from the series, but it turns out Ikari Warriors ones as well. The game will be available on November 5, 2024 on consoles and PCs. There's also a launch trailer to highlight what to expect.

While the focus of the Metal Slug Tactics launch trailer is on general gameplay, it also introduces the three Ikari Warriors characters who will be playable in the game. Even if someone isn't familiar with that game, they will likely recognize them from The King of Fighters. Clark Still, Leona Heidern, and Ralf Jones will be present in the game.

Each one of the three Ikari Warriors characters fills a different role in Metal Slug Tactics. Clark will be a character who can be used to reposition enemies and inflict status effects. We can see him attack with a gun and knife at the 15 second mark of the new trailer. At the end of his portion, we see how he can toss an enemy behind him toward an ally after attacking.

Leona comes up at the 30 second mark. Her portion of the trailer starts with her attacking an enemy with a gun. This defeats them. When that happens, a replica of her appears where they fell. We also see her use an AOE attack that leaves a fire hazard behind on tiles. We also get to see how her clones can help with attacks.

Finally, the end part of the trailer focuses on Ralf gameplay. His close-range knife attacks are shown on maps. We also get to see a number of fire-based AOE attacks dealt to enemies right in front of him. In one finisher toward the end of the video, we get to see him hit four enemies surrounding him at once.

Here's the full Metal Slug Tactics release date trailer that also features the Ikari Warriors that will appear.

Metal Slug Tactics will launch on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC on November 5, 2024.

FFXIV Community Finder Update Adds Founding Member Recruitment

Square Enix updated the FFXIV Community Finder on the Lodestone, and it now makes it possible to start founding member recruitment. People need to go through the official website to create pages to begin searching for additional members in-game.

Here's how it works. First, we need to visit the site. The Community Finder lets you search by Data Center and World. You can select to start a New Recruitment by logging in and heading to the start of the page. From there, you can create a page for a Free Company, Cross-World Linkshell, or PvP Team and start founding member recruitment in the FFXIV Community Finder. Each one of those options allows for multiple founding members to exist. However, as Square Enix noted, this can't be done for regular Linkshells.

This is the main addition, but it isn't the only FFXIV Community Finder update. There are also some quality of life adjustments for those using it to recruit and people who are looking to sign up for new groups. If you created a listing for a new member or founding member, you can see them in the Watchlist section. These will be in a different section from items you added to your Watchlist. All of those will be under the "Listings Created" heading. The other change lets someone who is commenting on a listing set their comment so it can only be seen by recruiting community members.

Community Finder updates are relatively rare for FFXIV. One of the last ones appeared in August 2021. That added the Watchlist feature.

Final Fantasy XIV is available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC. The next Letter from the Producer Live 84 airs 4am PT/7am ET/1pm CET on November 1, 2024.

Kimi ga Nozomu Eien delayed

Kimi ga Nozomu Eien: Enhanced Edition is still not available yet as of October 22, 2024, because it keeps getting delayed by rating review issues. aNCHOR has delayed the visual novel's release three times, and the latest announcement no longer included a definite release date.

aNCHOR originally planned to release Kimi ga Nozomu Eien on October 17, 2024 in the Americas' time zones, which was October 18, 2024 in the Japanese time zone. But right on the supposed release date, the company announced a one-day delay to noon JST on October 19, 2024. It cited necessary fixes and adjustments for the rating review.

The issues did not seem to get resolved in time, though. On October 19, 2024, aNCHOR announced that Kimi ga Nozomu Eien got delayed again to noon JST on October 22, 2024, for the same reason. And that brought us to the third delay announcement on the latter date, where aNCHOR also stopped giving a new estimated release date.

As a refresher, Kimi ga Nozomu Eien originally appeared as an adults-only visual novel for PCs in Japan in 2001. When Alchemist and Princess Soft ported the title to the Dreamcast and PlayStation 2 respectively in 2002 and 2003, they turned it into an all-ages rated game. The upcoming Enhanced Edition release on Steam will also be based on the all-ages version, although aNCHOR noted that it will contain some references to sexual content that may be inappropriate for younger players.

Kimi ga Nozomu Eien: Enhanced Edition will be available worldwide in Japanese and English on PCs via Steam.

youtooz chiitan japanese mascot plush

YouTooz will release a Chiitan plush. The stuffed animals based on the Japanese mascot will go on sale from 12pm PT/3pm ET on October 30, 2024.

The plush has on Chiitan's signature hat and bowtie. It also has Chiitan's default expression, where it has its mouth open in a wide smile and it's looking in some distant direction. The official account for Chiitan replied to YouTooz's announcement tweet with lots of cheers, a self-introduction, praise for YouTooz, and a video of Chiitan in a skydiving simulator.

There are two versions of the plush, which are both 9" in height. One of them is normal Chiitan and the other is Crazy Chiitan. Crazy Chiitan is wielding a bloody baseball bat, and there's blood on one side of the plush's body. Both plushes cost $29.99 as well. Though pre-orders will open on October 30, 2024, YouTooz will ship it out some time in April 2025.

Here is the official announcement from social media, which showed both versions of the Japanese mascot:

https://twitter.com/youtooz/status/1848399102180044873?s=61

Chiitan first appeared in 2017 as an unofficial representative for Susaki. It's modeled after a real-life Asian small-clawed otter Chiitan, who was the honorary tourism ambassador for Susaki. The government for Susaki rejected Chiitan after complaints regarding Chiitan's controversial and dangerous stunts, as well as its similarity to Shinjo-kun, the official mascot for Susaki. Nowadays, most people who use X (formerly known as Twitter) probably know of Chiitan, Japan's craziest mascot. This is because the account keeps buying ad space to protect other users from ads, and its replies often go viral for its positivity or chaos.

The YouTooz Chiitan plush will go on sale on October 30, 2024 and it'll ship out some time in April 2025.
