Hatsuboshi Gakuen: The Idolmaster will feature characters who train to become performer idols. Each character will have different ability levels and personalities, and it will be up to the player to improve their vocals, dances, and expressions as a producer.
When Bandai Namco first unveiledGakuen Idolmaster in March 2024, it revealed nine playable characters but only added details to three of them: Saki Hanami, Temari Tsukimura, and Kotone Fujita. The company gradually revealed the names of the remaining six characters.
Rinami Himesaki (voiced by Yuri Usui) is a third-year student who is also the student council's secretary. She has the natural disposition of an elder sister, but she lost her confidence after her previous unit tried to depict her as a younger sister.

The ninth and last playable character at launch will be Mao Arimura (voiced by Tsumugi Nanase). The third-year student is also Rinami's classmate and the superintendent of Hatsuboshi Academy's Idol major dormitory. She aspires to become a "cool prince" idol, as she was also inspired by opera troupes.

However, these nine characters will not be the only ones to appear in the game. During the NicoNico Chokaigi 2024 event, Bandai Namco revealed three more characters who will appear as NPC rivals at launch. They will also play important roles in the game's storylines with close connections to the initial playable characters in Gakuen Idolmaster.

Ever since the release of the first season of Spy x Family, I have known that it has the winning formula. Its memorable cast, witty and fast-paced writing, and hilarious animation direction all works so well. The latest entry in the series, Spy x Family Code: White, is a roughly two-hourspin-off movie that takes all of those elements and kicks them up to the max.
The Spy x Family movie begins with a simple assignment at Anya's school to create a dessert for a project, but it soon snowballs into a winter holiday weekend trip for the Forger family. Their trip to the snowy town of Frigis is a picturesque setting and a solid departure from the usual locales fans see in the core series.

Without going into spoilers too much, Spy x Family Code: White is essentially just an adorable side story. It has no major bearings on the actual core plot of the series. That said, it carries all of the wit, charm, and humor of the main series, and I would say it even lands better in some places. Where it stumbles a bit comes as a result of the lengthy runtime for the movie. A lot of times, spin-off anime movies like this will go for only 90 minutes or sometimes even less in some cases. However, this Spy x Family movie almost clocks in at two hours, which I feel is about an hour longer than it needs to be. Outside of its bombastic finale, the film feels like it could've been two episodes in the series and that's it.
Surprisingly, the efforts made to lengthen the wacky adventure don't hurt the move that much. The pacing is generally pretty good, even when not a lot is happening. Moments like a whole side competition at a restaurant early in the film don't overstay their welcome. This is due to the constantly funny jokes and moments involving the Forger family.
Though Spy x Family Code White looks almost identical to the series, in terms in animation quality, it does justify its big screen moments. There are a couple of sequences, without spoiling too much, where the animators really flexed their skills. These moments even changed up the animation style briefly in some extraordinary ways. Wit Studio and CloverWork, which also worked on the first season of the series, really go all-in on making this an elaborate experience.

But perhaps the most impressive part about the visual quality of this film comes from the action segments. The various setpieces and segments are far more active than ones I became used to seeing in the Spy x Family anime series, and the movie all the better for it. Two of the latter fights, in particular, honestly rival some of the great action anime out there right now. The general effects, rich color palettes, and fascinating character designs help to add to the experience and make it more memorable.
Even though this is a spin-off movie, it doesn't feel too much like filler for Spy x Family. Instead, the story makes full use of the Forger family in some fun ways. Anya is at her peak in terms of comedic gags and ridiculous facial expressions. Meanwhile, Yor has some of her best action segments in the series to date. Naturally, Loid continues to be the calculated anchor for the family. Even Bond the dog gets some standout moments in the spotlight.
Spy x Family Code White is the type of movie that doesn't move the overarching plot forward. However, it doesn't really need to. The intense and surprising action goes far beyond expectations. Meanwhile, the comedic scenes and writing is at its peak for the series. Even for a side adventure, and a lengthy one at that, this is the type of movie to watch as we wait patiently for the series to continue.
Spy x Family Code: White is airing in theaters theaters worldwide, following a Japanese debut in December 2023.
Good Smile Company has opened up pre-orders of QSet+ figures for the Persona 3, Persona 4, and Persona 5Protagonists. Pre-orders will close on May 29, 2024.
Each figure costs 2500 JPY, or $15.99. Those in Japan will get it some time in October 2024. Meanwhile, those in North America will get it in Q1 2025. As a reminder, due to licensing restrictions, Good Smile Company only ships to Canada and the United States.
QSet+ figures are small, using a chibi design, and stand at around 80 millimeters in height. They usually include a diorama based on or inspired by the series they come from. In the case of the Persona Protagonists, the QSet+ figures feature them sitting in chairs that are a dark purple color. This is likely a reference to the Velvet Room, in which the characters will sit while conducting business with Igor.

As a note, the Persona 3 Protagonist will use his design from Portable. There are minor differences between the original version and the one in Reload. He has his signature headphones around his neck, whereas the Persona 5 Protagonist is holding a pair of handcuffs. The Persona 4Golden Protagonist is sitting while leaning his cheek against his hand. He doesn't have his glasses on.

Giving characters their moments in manga can be difficult, especially as casts grow, but Yen Press' The Villainess Stans the Heroes is fantastic at making sure everyone gets their moment. This is thanks to the fact that it's an isekai with the heroine being sent into the world of what was essentially a gacha type of game with tons of characters and special events for each one, so there can be chapters and storylines dedicated to each one.
The Villainess Stans the Heroes stars a rich young villainess named Eldea Euclair. However, her secret is that she isn't really evil or the villain. She lived in the real world, but then found herself spirited away (as in any isekai) to the world of a game she loved. She has knowledge of its events and characters, and decides to use her opportunity to work in the shadows to support the actual heroes and her favorite characters, even if that means playing the villain or engaging in dubious practices. She's joined by the vampire assassin Albert, who was her all-time favorite when she played the game and she encountered early on, who aids her in her endeavors.
The encounter with Chikusa is a perfect example of exactly how dedicated a manga like The Villainess Stans the Heroes can be to its characters. In the second volume, we see the start of a plotline that involves Ellua meeting one of the first characters she pulled in the game, Chikusa. She's a rabbit beastfolk person who is something of a samurai. However, things in this world aren't proceeding as they did in the game, so Ellua and Albert meet her after she's been forced to fight in a casino's arena and separated from her sword. As a result, we get to see Chikusa become the focus, as well as eventually Cort once Ellua figures out which "event" this experience is based upon and how she can use it to help the heroes she loves. So both Chikusa and Cort, two supporting cast members, both get their moments.

We're getting tons of exposition for Albert throughout as well. This is only natural, as he's Ellua's overall "fave" and the first one she "found" once she ended up in the game world. In fact, volume 2 of the The Villainess Stans the Heroes manga ends with an omake chapter showing the two characters meeting. So in addition to us seeing the relationship between Ellua and Albert constantly growing and him getting substantial development throughout the first three chapters, there are also moments like this where we'll see a flashback or his character episode.
Of course, Ellua herself becomes a standout herself among all the other The Villainess Stans the Heroes manga characters. Part of this is that even though she has the typical isekai protagonist motivation to do good and save the day, it is because she loves these people from when she played the game. It's also because she can be smart and calculating, but there's this whimiscal, over-the-top side of her. Sure, she's being cool and working out plans to deal with corrupt casino owners or to save her "faves." However, if someone she really likes does something cool, especially to or for her, she just devolves into this fawning fangirl. It's quite fun to watch.
As a result, it really feels like we get to connect with the characters in each entry of The Villainess Stans the Heroes manga. There's an opportunity to really get to know all of the supporting cast, as well as Ellua and Albert themselves. In turn, it makes it easier to see why Ellua might be so devoted to these people and make her purpose in this other world making them happy, because as we get to know them we want all of them to be happy and succeed as well.
